Adventures in Estimation: How Jake Jones Transformed His Career

What happens when a talented estimator decides to break free from the confines of office life and build a business that serves multiple contractors while traveling the world? Jake Jones, co-founder of Archer Estimation and Consulting, shares his remarkable journey from geology student to nomadic entrepreneur in this thought-provoking conversation.Jake's natural talent for estimation was discovered almost by accident when his mentor reviewed a project budget he'd prepared and declared, "You're in the wrong job." What followed was a career transformation that led him through various companies where he consistently found ways to optimize estimation processes, turning handwritten takeoffs into sophisticated spreadsheet systems. One simple macro he developed saved his company approximately 40 man-hours annually – exemplifying his philosophy that small improvements can yield significant results. The pandemic proved to be a turning point for Jake when he discovered he could be even more productive working remotely. When faced with ultimatums to return to the office, he made the bold decision to launch his own fractional estimating business. Now, he helps contractors who need estimation expertise but can't afford full-time specialists while enjoying the freedom to work from anywhere. Currently based in Santiago, Chile, with previous stops in Argentina and Uruguay, Jake and his wife have embraced minimalism, paring down their possessions to just a few suitcases. For those considering a similar path, Jake offers practical advice about the realities of entrepreneurship, emphasizing the importance of understanding business fundamentals and building strong support networks. His story demonstrates how specialized expertise combined with process optimization can create opportunities for both professional fulfillment and personal freedom.Whether you're a contractor seeking to improve your bidding processes or someone dreaming of location independence, Jake's experiences provide valuable insights into building a business that serves others while supporting the lifestyle you desire. What small improvements could transform your workflow and open new possibilities in your career?Jakes Jones:http://www.archerestimation.com/mailto:info@archerestimation.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/jake-j-73ba2516Make yourself a priority and get more done: https://www.depthbuilder.com/do-the-damn-thing Download a PDF copy of Becoming the Promise You are Intended to Behttps://www.depthbuilder.com/books

The response was so positive, and they enjoyed it so much, they decided to continue booking shows and writing songs. They recorded and released a homemade CD titled Rise Up; which sold over 1,000 copies at local shows. Shortly after, friend and local musician, Sawyer Rikard, joined the band on bass guitar in 2015, bringing their stage sound and performance to another level. In March of 2016, they released a follow-up EP, All Fall Down, which debuted #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. They soon began touring and being invited to festivals such as Rocklahoma, SXSW, Rockfest, Dirtfest, Loud in Lima, etc.In 2018, they joined forces with Legend Recordings, and released another EP, Ascension, which became their biggest release yet with singles “Back to Life” and “Killer Queen” landing on the radio. Shortly after, they added local powerhouse drummer (and childhood friend of Sawyer), Dakota Watson, to form the rhythm section Casandra, Paul, and Sawyer had always dreamed of. In 2019, they recorded standalone single “Love Will Win” with producer/videographer, Jake Jones, which gained even more radio play, and placed them on numerous national tours; supporting artists such as Tantric, Saliva, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dokken, and being added to the KISS Kruise and NAMM Show. The band continued to write, record, livestream, and perform wherever they could during the 2020 pandemic, and only continued to gain traction and fans from all over the world. Reaching out on a whim, they won over the attention of renowned producer/songwriter, Elvis Baskette, and shortly thereafter, entered the studio to record their first professionally made, full length album, Street Magic, in 2021. This release proved to be a monumental success, skyrocketing their audience with over 5 million views and streams across all platforms. Radio singles from this release alone include “For the Record”, “Despicable”, “Repeat Offender”, “Can't Quench the Fire”, and “Only Human”.Paralandra has since toured the country on multiple headlining runs, and is constantly supporting iconic bands such as Warrant, Lita Ford, Firehouse, Last in Line, and countless others with no end in sight. They reentered the studio with Elvis Baskette in 2023 and recorded their 2nd studio album, which is due April 4, 2024. They plan for this release to be just as big, if not bigger than the last, as they continue to record, write, tour, and work tirelessly to build their brand, and change the direction of rock music to be a force for good in this world.

Hello and welcome episode 85 of Gutter 2 Gutter podcast. In this episode, I am joined by Jake Jones, more affectionately known as Drift Squid. I would firstly like to thank Jake for putting up my professionalism as I battled with technical issues and fumbling with technology like I've never used it before.... It's been a little while since I've used the tech i needed to use for this episode... With that said, I ran into a weird issue where I had an audio loop at the start, and I didn't pick it up until about 20 minutes in... So the audio at the start is a little ordinary, but I did catch it and got it sorted. In this episode, Jake and I got to talk about his time with Team Orange and how that came about. We talked about the build of his RBM3 E92 BMW M3 powered by an RB26 that revs to 10k! Bedside Reading

A young man has stopped breathing in a supermarket toilet. A pedestrian with a nasty head injury won't let the crew near him on a busy road. A newborn baby is worryingly silent. An addict urinates on the ambulance floor when denied a fix. This is the life of an NHS ambulance paramedic.Jake Jones has worked in the UK ambulance service for ten years: every day, he sees a dozen of the scenes we hope to see only once in a lifetime. Can You Hear Me? – the first thing he says when he arrives on the scene – is a memoir of the chaos, intensity and occasional beauty of life on the front-lines of medicine in the UK.As well as a look into dozens of extraordinary scenes – the hoarder who won't move his collection to let his ailing father leave the house, the blood-soaked man who tries to escape from the ambulance, the life saved by a lucky crew who had been called to see someone else entirely – Can You Hear Me? is an honest examination of the strains and challenges of one of the most demanding and important jobs anyone can do.It was such a pleasure and privilege to meet Jake and talk to him as a guest and writer on the podcast

If you enjoy the melodic content of Paramore, and the character themes of Slipknot, then you have found the perfect matchup in GFM. The three sisters of GFM started taking music lessons around the age of five, and all three ended up falling in love with music. As they grew up, they decided that they wanted to pursue this love for music professionally and have been putting blood and sweat into creating a business and career out of GFM. The most important goal of GFM is to use their gifts to reach people for God and to always spread a positive message. The stage is their home, and they want to share their home with their fans. GFM is not your average teenage girl band… they're sisters for crying out loud. Their musical journey began in 2016 when they worked on their first album “Identity Crisis” with producers Jake Jones and Justin Forshaw (formerly of We as Human). In 2017, the girls went on their first U.S. tour, and the demand was so strong for GFM that they went out again the following year in 2018 on another U.S. tour, finishing out the touring season with their first trip to Germany for a festival. GFM was met with thousands of loving fans and instantly became a festival favorite. In 2019, GFM released their much-anticipated EP “Oh, The Horror!” after working with Eric Varnell and Billy Decker (Uncle Kracker, Sam Hunt). GFM headlined their own summer U.S. tour, and again were called to perform in Germany at the end of the year. 2020 contained GFM's first acoustic tour, along with the release of their first two singles off of their upcoming EP “Operation Take Over.” GFM had peaked Joey Sturgis' (Blessthefall, Asking Alexandria, Of Mice & Men) interest, and he got involved in the producing process alongside Eric Varnell and Billy Decker. While on lockdown, GFM started the very first E-Tour, taking over various social media pages for over 20 dates of performing via livestream. They were able to do a short summer run as well, despite the pandemic situation, attracting several premieres and features from Alternative Press and front-page features in several magazines and newspapers across the nation.
