Mick Coyle has the latest figures of suicides registered in England and Wales for 2022 (released 19th Dec 2023) He goes through the ONS data, and discusses the findings with Jake Mills from Chasing the Stigma - a suicide survivor and founder of the Hub of Hope. Find out more about the 2022 suicide data You can find mental health services using the Hub of Hope. If someone's life is in danger, call 999. A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “Every suicide is a tragedy and has a devastating, enduring impact on families and communities. “We're working hard to reduce the number of suicides and published our new Suicide Prevention Strategy for England in September. This commits to more than 100 measures, including a focus on prevention and earlier intervention, as well as more targeted and proactive support for people in crisis. “In August, the government also launched a £10 million fund for the voluntary sector in England to carry out crucial work to prevent suicides and save lives. We're also investing £2.3 billion extra a year into mental health services to help an additional two million people access NHS-funded mental health support by 2024.” Pic credit: Unsplash TOPICS: Suicide, Suicide prevention, public messaging, government strategy, impact of suicide

Have you ever worked hard for a long time at something that was good and right, but it just didn't pan out like you thought it would? You thought things would be better by now, but they're not. We have this tendency to expect big and fast results, especially when we're doing the good thing, the God thing. And when we don't see the expected results, it can cause disappointment and make us question if it was God's will to begin with. Often we think if God is calling me to do something, He'll make it easy. But what we need to understand is that the closer we get to doing something that matters to the heart of God, the more likely we are to face opposition. When we're trying to follow God's will, difficulty isn't a sign that God's against us. Often, it's a sign that we're on the right track. When opposition comes, ask God to enable you, empower you, and lead you to choose the difficult right over the comfortable wrong. But what if it doesn't work? Results are God's responsibility, but obedience is ours. We're not responsible for the results, but we are responsible for the obedience. This is what's happening in the Book of Haggai, a story of re-building the temple of God. Listen as Jake Mills discusses the hardships that unfold in this book, where the Jews are trying to do what God has called them to do, but they face many challenges and even give up for 14 years. The prophet Haggai is going to help empower the people to do the difficult right over the comfortable wrong and move back into obedience, living in God's will. In part two, Coach Harrelson and I take a deep dive into leadership and how it is implemented with our guys. We also discuss how relationships with players have evolved and how important they are to me.
In Episode 50, I sat down with roles reversed. Richy Harrelson sat down and interviewed me. In this episode we discuss the most influential people in my life along with why I started the TAKEOFF Podcast to begin with. It was an honor to sit down and discuss these topics with someone that has meant so much to me. Richy knows me very well so he knew exactly what to ask. It was such a great conversation we split it into TWO parts!
Today's conversation is with Jake Mills, Missions and Outreach Pastor at Beltway Park Church in Abilene, Texas. One of the unique characteristics of Beltway Park's missions efforts is an emphasis on taking the Gospel to the Jewish people both in Israel and around the world.Want to learn how your church can partner with OneChild to bring HOPE to kids living in hard Places? Click Here!Jake shares that Beltway Park has always been committed to giving a percentage of their offerings directly to missions and then increasing that amount year over year. It doesn't matter what that starting percentage is, set it aside, and then slowly raise that percentage annually and see who much of an impact that can make. Jake also shares that it doesn't matter if it's Jewish evangelism or outreach to any other people group or nation, the best people to share the Gospel in a culture are people from that culture. This isn't always easy, especially when dealing with unreached people groups. But once the opportunity presents itself to have Christians from inside that group reaching out to their own people, this transition must happen. And finally, Jake reminds us that getting started in missions isn't as difficult as we sometimes make it. But we still need to take a step back and be practical. Look at the budget and set aside the funds to be used. After that, take action. Get a team together, find a partnership you trust, and get to work. The rest is just details.Learn More About Beltway Park ChurchLearn more about OneChild HERE!
In today's episode, our guests are Than Brown and Jake Mills. Over the last several podcast episodes, there have been two things central and key to developing the spiritual life you want: Praying and Reading Scripture. We can often dismiss these or simply acknowledge them as important things to do without developing the rhythms and consistency of these spiritual practices in our lives. Our conversations starts with reasons why people struggle to read the Bible, and from there we address ways, strategies, plans, and more to developing a rhythm of reading scripture to obtain the truth and the life it contains. In today's episode, we sit down with Beltway's Missions & Outreach Pastor, Jake Mills. In sharing some of his personal journey in finding and fulfilling his purpose, Jake discusses an important lesson learned concerning the difference between assignments and calling. Thank you for tuning in to the 33rd Episode of Evolving Mindset Mental Health Podcast. In this weeks episode, Host Phil was joined by guest Jake Mills, CEO of Chase the Stigma and founder of the Hub of Hope. Jake describes a lack of mental health support he had in past which escalated to an attempt on his life. After that he started sharing his feelings with others via well-known platform Twitter, which caused a big response boom from both his friends and strangers, who felt the same. This was followed by even bigger awareness of what he had experienced when he was invited to an interview by Guardian after which some celebrities started sharing his story. All of this made Jake to build a mental health network for anyone experiencing mental and emotional distress, which became the UK's leading mental health support database. Phil and Jake also discuss the changes in mental health approach with different generations and how being honest when talking about your mental health makes you stronger rather than anything else. Thank you to The Steve Morgan Foundation for sponsoring this podcast.

Where are all the mental health services app? The NHS has now included the Hub of Hope app on their website and has helped more than 26,533 visitors find support in just two months. The Hub of Hope app was established in 2017 by Chasing the Stigma, a national charity set up by Liverpool comedian, Jake Mills, following his own suicide attempt in October 2013. Jake realised when talking through his own personal experience that many people didn't know where to turn for help with mental health issues, so he and his team created the app, a location-based app which directs people to all the mental health support available within any given area. On today's Mentally Yours Jake chats to Yvette (it's his second time on Mentally Yours) about the app, and how it's developed since he was last on the podcast. This week I had a chinwag with comedian, writer and Chasing The Stigma founder Jake Mills. We chatted about depression, recovery and managing mental health.Jake battled depression in 2013. After months of internal turmoil, Jake attempted to take his own life. Thankfully he was discovered before it was too late and made a full recovery. As part of his recovery, Jake opened up on social media about his secret battles and his story went viral. Television interviews and articles were shared with tens of millions by celebrities including Emma Watson and James Corden. As a result, Jake became inundated with messages from people asking for help. It quickly became clear that the fear of being judged was preventing many people from seeking help. That is something Jake wanted to change, and so Chasing the Stigma was born.Chasing the Stigma aims to remove unnecessary stigmas attached to mental illness by using first hand experiences to put disarm and normalise the topic, pulling together and make a difference and change the way society approaches mental illness.LINKSchasingthestigma.co.ukTwitter: @Jakemills1Get in touch....email : offradarpod@gmail.comtwitter @jtopia : twitter.com/jtopiawebsite : offradar.buzzsprout.comChat at you soon,James
In Episode 11, Jake takes us through similarities through the first 10 episodes of TAKE OFF. It was time to slow and reflect and notice the similarities throughout the first 10 episodes. Jake discusses how leadership is serving, if you are juiceful you are useful, how relationships thrive, being authentic, and the importance of doing things the right way.
This week it is all about hope! Today we are honoured to be joined by Jake Mills the CEO and founder of the charity Chasing the Stigma. Jake shares his past with stand up comedy and his journey with starting chasing the stigma. He went on to create The Hub of Hope app to help people find the appropriate support for them. We have a very hopeful and forward thinking chat with a good laugh. So grab your tea and have a listen...
Jake Mills is a man on a mission to change the nature of mental health signposting in the UK. Something he and I have in common is that we both believe there are a wealth of services out there that just aren't getting accessed because people simply don't know about them. In this episode we discuss how prescribing the Samaritans as an only option can lead people to feel that this is all that is available and if that model doesn't fit the individual's needs then they are stuck. Each of us are individual and whereas some people get a tremendous benefit from the Samaritans, others may be best suited to a text service such as Shout. There is definitely more to be done in the field of mental health, but there is also more and more being done each day and Hub Of Hope aims to make discovering and accessing these services as simple as finding a take out via Just Eat.
