Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary TimeModern technology along with advertising agencies invest time, research, and millions of dollars toward selling products that people may or may not actually need or buy! As a result, we get used to the sales pitch. If Jesus' "marketing campaign" began today he may not last long as he spoke about people eating his flesh and drinking his blood, rejection, suffering, and even death itself. Nonetheless, Jesus does not back down from the truth of what it means to be a Christian nor how one is able to acquire and live a life according to Godly values. "Whoever wishes come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me." Fourth Sunday in Ordinary TimeNew Year's resolutions and the time before lent begins ought to be a time of preparation for change. We seek change because as beings in motion, God willing we are moving towards virtue and away from vice. To achieve our goals though, requires courage and an understanding of resistance. In today's Gospel Jesus' authority to remove the demon from a man takes center stage. There is an attitude that can slip into the church that would cause people to fall victim to a mindset of inadequacy and insecurity. What should be understood is that there is a molding process at work in every life - a process that is often extremely difficult. 6th Sunday in Ordinary TimeThe pursuit of perfection in this lifetime is an essential component towards attaining human greatness. Yet, spiritual greatness does not consist so much in external behaviors as it does internally. For example, external behavior patterns such as murder and adultery stem from the heart, therefore in order to become perfect Jesus is teaching his followers to examine the internal movements of the heart first such as anger and lust.
