Read your Bible. Pray. Fast. Be in community. Share the Gospel. Worship. Go to church. Tithe. The list goes on and on! Spiritual disciplines can quickly feel like a burden, like something we're failing at, or like one more thing on our to do list.Guess what? You won't find “read your Bible and pray every day” in the Bible! There is no “one right way” to connect with God because God created us one of a kind. All of these things matter, but it's time that we talk about the problem with spiritual disciplines and the FREEDOM that is ours in Christ Jesus. Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary TimeModern technology along with advertising agencies invest time, research, and millions of dollars toward selling products that people may or may not actually need or buy! As a result, we get used to the sales pitch. If Jesus' "marketing campaign" began today he may not last long as he spoke about people eating his flesh and drinking his blood, rejection, suffering, and even death itself. Nonetheless, Jesus does not back down from the truth of what it means to be a Christian nor how one is able to acquire and live a life according to Godly values. "Whoever wishes come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me." (Matthew 16:24)Scripture Reading for September 22, 2024Wisdom 2:12, 17-20Psalm 54:3-6, 8 James 3:16—4:3Mark 9:30-37
Islington Baptist is a church for the Islington and wider Newcastle community sharing the life-changing message of Jesus. Our sermon / Bible teaching is a central part of our gatherings. Psalm 139 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=%20Psalm%20139&version=NIV Hebrews 4:12-16 12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
We are inundated with contradictory information and advice, but the gospel offers consistent grace. Readings from this service:1 Timothy 1: 12-20Psalm 107: 4-9Luke 19: 1-10Thanks for listening! CONNECT with CCFC:Visit us on FacebookVisit our websiteDownload our app!

Are there bad things you would never do if someone was watching? I'm sure there are. God has built that into us to deter us from sinning. It's also pretty difficult to sin when we are aware that God is there and that He sees our every action. This truth is not meant to guilt us, to motivate us to live as we know we ought ot live. Holiness is not just something we do or facade that we put on, but it must become who we are. The Lord is, above all else, a God of complete and perfect holiness. For us to be like Him, His holiness will permeate every part of our lives and separate us for His use. 02/05/2024 - Sunday MorningScriptures Used (In Order of Occurrence):I Thessalonians 5:15-23Matthew 23:36Psalm 51:6-11James 1:15Luke 9:51-55James 1:20Psalm 101:2Proverbs 16:32Proverbs 25:28I Corinthians 14:14-15Romans 8:26I Corinthians 14:14John 3:3-8I Corinthians 2:14
Third Sunday after the EpiphanyYear BRCLJonah 3:1-5, 101 Corinthians 7:29-31Mark 1:14-20Psalm 62:6-14The CollectGive us grace, O Lord, to answer readily the call of our Savior Jesus Christ and proclaim to all people the Good News of his salvation, that we and the whole world may perceive the glory of his marvelous works; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.Old TestamentJonah 3:1-5, 10The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, saying, “Get up, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you.” So Jonah set out and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly large city, a three days' walk across. Jonah began to go into the city, going a day's walk. And he cried out, “Forty days more, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” And the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast, and everyone, great and small, put on sackcloth. When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed his mind about the calamity that he had said he would bring upon them; and he did not do it.The PsalmPsalm 62:6-14Nonne Deo?6 For God alone my soul in silence waits; *truly, my hope is in him.7 He alone is my rock and my salvation, *my stronghold, so that I shall not be shaken.8 In God is my safety and my honor; *God is my strong rock and my refuge.9 Put your trust in him always, O people, *pour out your hearts before him, for God is our refuge.10 Those of high degree are but a fleeting breath, *even those of low estate cannot be trusted.11 On the scales they are lighter than a breath, *all of them together.12 Put no trust in extortion;in robbery take no empty pride; *though wealth increase, set not your heart upon it.13 God has spoken once, twice have I heard it, *that power belongs to God.14 Steadfast love is yours, O Lord, *for you repay everyone according to his deeds. The Epistle1 Corinthians 7:29-31I mean, brothers and sisters, the appointed time has grown short; from now on, let even those who have wives be as though they had none, and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no possessions, and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away. The GospelMark 1:14-20After John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.”As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fish for people.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. As he went a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in their boat mending the nets. Immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him.
Fourth Sunday in Ordinary TimeNew Year's resolutions and the time before lent begins ought to be a time of preparation for change. We seek change because as beings in motion, God willing we are moving towards virtue and away from vice. To achieve our goals though, requires courage and an understanding of resistance. In today's Gospel Jesus' authority to remove the demon from a man takes center stage. Though this miracle happened over two thousand years ago, it is the same path we ought to take as well toward uncommon freedom: trust in the authority and power of Jesus Christ! Scripture Readings for January 28, 2024Deuteronomy 18:15-20Psalm 95:1-2, 6-9, 1 Corinthians 7:32-35Mark 1:21-28
There is an attitude that can slip into the church that would cause people to fall victim to a mindset of inadequacy and insecurity. What should be understood is that there is a molding process at work in every life - a process that is often extremely difficult. If we can realize that God is using the trials of life to shape us, we can be loosed from a mindset of defeat. 01/28/2024 - Sunday MorningScriptures Used (In Order of Occurrence):Jeremiah 18:1-6Luke 15:11-12, 17-20Psalm 115:4-8

We begin a new series this week, Revelation: Things Are Not As They SeemRichard Bauckham is right in calling Revelation “a work of immense learning, astonishingly meticulous literary artistry, remarkable creative imagination, radical political critique, and profound theology.” The book's vivid imagery and bizarre symbolism engage the imagination and present Jesus Christ in fresh perspective.Readings from this service:Revelation 1: 1-20Psalm 34: 1-10John 14: 18-20Thanks for listening! In the midst of trouble, sadness and hardship... Confused? Wondering what's happening or how to deal? What do you do? I try to speak to these very things in this episode, sharing my troubles and how I keep my heart and mind above the despair and focus on what His Word tells us. We are seeing lots of things in our world that contribute to this as well as experiencing things in our own lives. None of this is a surprise to Him, and He tells us not only how to get through, but that in Him, our troubles do not even compare to the glory that is waiting for us on the other side as Christians. Happy Wednesday! Today, though Grayce could not join the recording, Janell sits down with Jon Noyes to chat about a few of Grayce's questions about hell and eternal punishment. First, Jon shares about how he came to belief in Christ. He talks about his life before Christ and how his life has become different afterwards. They then get into a discussion about hell, punishment, sin, and more. They discuss the holiness of God, the human senses of Justice, and what happens when someone who didn't get the opportunity to hear about God dies. They also chat about emotionalism, relativism, and other cultural trends. We hope you enjoy this episode! About Jonathan NoyesJonathan has worked as a speaker with Stand to Reason since 2019. A former atheist, Jonathan used to think belief in God was unwarranted and irresponsible. Then, after examining the evidence for Christianity he was faced with the fact that Jesus is who He says He is and the Christian worldview tells the true story of reality. Since then Jon has been passionate about engaging the culture with honest, well thought-out reasons why people should trust the Christian worldview. Jon has developed a series of passionate talks to do just that.In 2013 Jonathan earned a master's degree in Christian Apologetics from Biola University, graduating with honors. Jon brings a unique perspective to his audiences and the Stand to Reason team, having more than ten years' experience in the legal field and serving more than five as a pastor in his local church. Jon also serves on the board of directors for Life Without Limbs and at Beacon Hill Classical Academy, where he teaches discipleship.___________________We would love to thank our Patrons for all their amazing support! Although today's passage contains some of the best news in scripture, it's one that we tend to skip because of how it reads to the culture of our age. In the sermon, Alex looks at why we think what we think, and why the good news of grace really is so good. 6th Sunday in Ordinary TimeThe pursuit of perfection in this lifetime is an essential component towards attaining human greatness. Yet, spiritual greatness does not consist so much in external behaviors as it does internally. For example, external behavior patterns such as murder and adultery stem from the heart, therefore in order to become perfect Jesus is teaching his followers to examine the internal movements of the heart first such as anger and lust. This purification process is all inclusive, not just in dealing with grave sin, but necessary towards the attainment of spiritual perfection.
