Overall the offensive line gained 255 pounds or just over 12 pounds per player. So Does that mean the team is intentionally getting bigger, like head coach James Franklin wondered out loud after the team's loss to Michigan? Or is it a normal course of growth for this time of year? T-Frank and Pickel will discuss that idea on the show and give their thoughts on how the team progressed this offseason.  Another position group that T-Frank wants to discuss is linebacker. Several Penn State stars made big jumps at that position too. What does Abdul Carter's weight gain mean for his position? The same can be said about Curtis Jacobs, who packed on some pounds during winter conditioning.  Combine testing results in poor overall showing Next, T-Frank will give his thoughts about the standout Penn State performers from the 2023 NFL Combine. He'll argue why Brenton Strange and Juice Scruggs stood out at crowded positions while Ji'Ayir Brown failed to reach several benchmarks.  Penn State Wrestling takes home the championship The Penn State wrestling team's dominance continues this year, with a regular season title and now a Big Ten Tournament title. What's more, the group sent nine contestants to the NCAA championships with their efforts this past weekend. As Pickel previously reported, the team also crowned four champions. Super senior Roman Bravo-Young and senior Aaron Brooks are now three-time Big Ten champs. 'RBY' beat Minnesota's Aaron Nagao in the 133-pound finals to cap off a perfect tournament. At 184 pounds, Brooks crushed Kaleb Romero of Ohio State 11-2 in the finals. Junior Carter Starocci is a two-time Big Ten champ at 174 pounds. He beat Nebraska's Mikey Labriola 6-2 in the finals after a 2-0 effort led him there. Finally, freshman phenom Levi Haines won his first conference crown by beating top-seeded Peyton Robb 3-1 in a thrilling sudden victory outcome. Redshirt junior cornerback Joey Porter Jr. opted out of whichever bowl Penn State will play in and head to the NFL. The All-Big Ten corner missed several games to end the season thanks to an appendectomy at the beginning of the month but returned to play on senior day. He finished the game against Michigan State with 11 total defensive snaps and two targets.  So, who else might opt out of the game aside from Porter? Fitz and Bauer discuss the most likely names.  Next, they turn to the All-Big Ten selections that Penn State earned alongside Porter Jr. Both were shocked at where fellow corner Kalen King and safety Ji'Ayir Brown landed and bandied about other names in the discussion about which players landed with what team.  Finally, they dig into the most crucial topic of the show, the transfer portal. Penn State redshirt freshman quarterback Christian Veilleux put his name into the portal this week, marking the first soon-to-be departure when the portal opens on December 5th. Penn State football held an open practice on Wednesday night before head coach James Franklin and several members of the team and staff spoke with the media afterward. Today on the BWI Daily Edition, host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer discuss what they saw and heard last night before opening the BWI Daily mailbag and answer questions from fans.  Bauer and T-Frank start by offering their impressions of practice and what Franklin said when speaking to media members after practice. Bauer points to the young players and their development so far. He comments on Franklin's assertion that the group collectively "hit a wall" in installation this week. T-Frank picks up on that thread and points to the Nittany Lion's Week one matchup with Purdue and how important it is for the team to be ready early in the season.  Meanwhile, T-Frank focused on the players returning from injury and how they are progressing in the second week of camp. He observed defensive linemen PJ Mustipher and Adisa Isaac going through drills and gives his feedback. Next, they discuss Bauer's conversation with Ji'Ayir Brown and how the senior safety discussed his fellow teammates in the secondary. Does he see each of them progressing in the necessary areas? And does Bauer believe that to be the case if he does?  After wrapping up with some final thoughts, the pair moves on to the mailbag portion of the show. The first question deals with Penn State's other freshman running back. How much are fans or media overlooking four-star freshman Kaytron Allen? Bauer rejects the notion that Blue White Illustrated has overlooked Allen but details what he's heard that indicates the question is correct in spirit.  They also take on the interior of the offensive line and the position battle between Hunter Nourzad and Sal Wormley. Penn State football got a shot in the arm this week the safety Ji'Ayir Brown announcing that he is returning for his final season. But what does that mean for the Penn State defense? Besides getting back a veteran player, host Thomas Frank Carr breaks down what Penn State can do with Brown in their defensive system next season.  First, T-Frank looks at what Brown wants out of his final season at Penn State. He asked the safety what he would come back for if the Lackawanna transfer stayed and where he wanted to improve his game. Brown had a precise answer and has one particular stat the senior would like to accumulate next season. That answer gives T-Frank a clue as to Brown's expectations and where he will need to play within the scheme to accomplish that.  The next element to consider with Brown's return to Happy Valley is the players surrounding him in the defense. So, who is the likely candidate to start opposite of Brown? The obvious answer is his backup, Keaton Ellis. How has the transition from corner gone for Ellis? Both Brown and the former State College Little Lion weigh in. The other player to consider is freshman standout Jaylen Reed, who worked his way onto the field late in the season. T-Frank looks at each player's strengths and explains how he sees all of the pieces fitting together.  Finally, T-Frank explains how new defensive coordinator Manny Diaz could change the picture with his defensive style. With that in mind, T-Frank explains what he saw from the Miami defense under Diaz and the type of players and body types that Diaz used at each position. With the similarities in the scheme, it's easy to make. With the team beginning practice today, Penn State football held their bowl media day on Friday in preparation for the Outback Bowl on January 1st against Arkansas. Senior Editor for Blue White Illustrated Nate Bauer and host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, were on hand to take in the sights and sounds. They bring you their observations on today's show.  First, they start with the biggest news of the day, introducing new defensive coordinator Manny Diaz. Bauer and T-Frank discuss their initial impressions of Diaz, his comments and responses to tough questions about his previous job, and his fit at Penn State. The two discuss how Diaz echoed similar but unrelated sentiments to what Head Coach James Franklin said earlier in the day.  Next, the pair gave their thoughts on what Offensive Coordinator Mike Yurcich had to say about his side of the ball in 2021. First, Yurcich took ownership of the situation and answered questions about the running game, his system, and more. Next, T-Frank and Bauer talked about the moments that stood out to them, including an illuminating answers at the end of the press conference.  Bauer and T-Frank dove into the quarterback conversation and what sixth-year senior Sean Clifford can provide for the young players that just joined his room in five-star quarterback Drew Allar and three-star Beau Pribula. How can Clifford help bridge the gap beyond his play? Can the embattled signal-caller raise his game with one final year at Penn State? Bauer and T-Frank discuss that and more.  Finally, they share the interesting conversations they had with individual players throughout the day with the audience.
