Jonathan Welch encourages us to consider the question, "What kind of people are we forming in our worship?" Quotes: "We struggle to connect politics and worship because we’re only thinking of our earthly citizenship." "The gospel is a political message because it contains deeply political realities for us. The phrase, 'Jesus is Lord,' has always been a political statement." "The political aspects of Christian worship help us see the connection between Sunday and every day." "Let’s be aware of our God-given opportunity to cultivate Christian citizenship in our people, that we may bring great glory to God in the ways Christian citizens represent Christ in our communities." "The Lord’s Supper is given to the body of Christ, the church, and the image of us taking it together sends the political message that our unity in Christ stands in sharp contrast to our society’s idolatrous emphasis on the individual self." "Our ability to make disciples in our communities hinges in part on how effectively we proclaim the church’s political identity in Christ in our gatherings."
