How do game critics contribute to Western hegemony, and what can we do about it? Nate Schmidt interviews Felipe Pepe, creator of The CRPG Book Project, on his recent essay, “The Gentrification of Video Game History.” Drawing on Mia Consalvo and Christopher Paul's critique of the concept of “ real games,” their wide-ranging conversation covers mods and mobile games, the relationship between internet cafes and free-to-play RPGs, and the emptiness of the stereotypical “nerd and jock” divide between narrative-driven and sports games.

Today I talked to Christopher Paul Clohessy about Half of My Heart: The Narratives of Zaynab, Daughter of Alî (Gorgias Press, 2020). As Abû ʿAbd Allâh al-Ḥusayn, son of ʿAlî and Fâṭima and grandson of Muḥammad, moved inexorably towards death on the field of Karbalâʾ, his sister Zaynab was drawn ever closer to the centre of the family of Muḥammad, the 'people of the house' (ahl al-bayt). There she would remain for a few historic days, challenging the wickedness of the Islamic leadership, defending the actions of her brother, initiating the commemorative rituals, protecting and nurturing the new Imâm, al-Ḥusayn's son ʿAlî b. al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlî b. Abî Ṭâlib, until he could take his rightful place. This is her story. Adam Bobeck received his PhD in Sociocultural Anthropology from the University of Leipzig. Around 80% of adults experience low back pain, and most are not candidates for surgery. Prentiss Lawson, Jr., M.D., and Christopher Paul, M.D., both anesthesiologists who specialize in pain medicine, discuss a promising new durable therapy for low back pain called restorative neurostimulation. Unlike existing low back pain management options, neurostimulation addresses a root cause, a weak or inactive multifidus muscle. The doctors explain the minimally invasive procedure, which involves sending electric pulses to the multifidus nerves. Learn how this treatment uniquely restores patents' spinal stability and thereby reduces chronic pain.
When #BlackLivesMatter emerged in 2013, it animated the most consequential Black-led mobilization since the civil rights and Black power era. Today, the hashtag-turned rallying cry is but one expression of a radical reorientation toward Black politics, protest, and political thought. We're joined today by the author of a book about the past 10 years of political movement, Christopher Paul Harris. His book To Build a Black Future examines the spirit and significance of this insurgency, offering a revelatory account of a new political culture—responsive to pain, suffused with joy, and premised on care—emerging from the centuries-long arc of Black rebellion, a tradition that traces back to the Black slave. City Lights LIVE, The New Press, and Princeton University Press celebrate the publication of two new books: “America Purgatory: Prison Imperialism and the Rise of Mass Incarceration” by Benjamin Weber, published by The New Press, and "To Build a Black Future: The Radical Politics of Joy, Pain, and Care” by Christopher Paul Harris, published by Princeton University Press. “American Purgatory” is a vivid work of hidden history that spans the wars to subjugate Native Americans in the mid-nineteenth century, the conquest of the western territories, and the creation of an American empire in Panama, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. "American Purgatory" reveals how “prison imperialism”—the deliberate use of prisons to control restive, subject populations—is written into our national DNA, extending through to our modern era of mass incarceration. Weber also uncovers a surprisingly rich history of prison resistance, from the Seminole Chief Osceola to Assata Shakur—one that invites us to rethink the scope of America's long freedom struggle. To “Build a Black Future” examines the spirit and significance of this insurgency, offering a revelatory account of a new political culture—responsive to pain, suffused with joy, and premised on care—emerging from the centuries-long arc of Black rebellion, a tradition that traces back to the Black slave. Drawing on his own experiences as an activist and organizer, Christopher Paul Harris takes readers inside the Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) to chart the propulsive trajectory of Black politics and thought from the Middle Passage to the present historical moment. Carefully attending to the social forces that produce Black struggle and the contradictions that arise within it, Harris illustrates how M4BL gives voice to an abolitionist praxis that bridges the past, present, and future, outlining a political project at once directed inward to the Black community while issuing an outward challenge to the world. Benjamin Weber is an assistant professor of African American and African Studies at the University of California, Davis. He has worked at the Vera Institute of Justice, Alternate ROOTS, the Marcus Garvey and UNIA Papers Project, and as a public high school teacher in East Los Angeles. He makes his home in Davis, California. Christopher Paul Harris is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Global and International Studies at University of California, Irvine. His research interests range from Black political thought, culture, aesthetics, and social movements to broader questions concerning the possibility of revolutionary transformation in the 21st century. Advancing an abolitionist critique of the capitalist world-system, his work aims to understand the political lives, thought, and cultures of the Black diaspora and the underlying social forces that shape them. Thursday, November 30th, 2023 Christopher Paul Harris is Assistant Professor of Global and International Studies at the University of California, Irvine, and the author of To Build A Black Future: The Radical Politics of Joy, Pain, and Care. We discuss why addressing our society's hard-wired prejudices must be a substantial part of our endeavors toward a truly multicultural democracy. Central to building a Black future is reframing and recreating institutions from the perspective of those who have been historically marginalized. The core of the Black movement is a response to Black pain and anti-Black violence. Despite all the violence, Black Joy is evidence that Black communities are thriving and serve as a prefigurative politics of what's possible on the other side of pain. Care is recognizing that Black people and other marginalized communities carry trauma and need healing. During this episode, Christopher Paul and Mike Williams discuss the new Journal of Cognitive Security–a double-blind peer reviewed publication concerned with influence and protection from influence of large groups of media users and consumers both online and offline. Cognitive Security focuses on (1) the exploitation of cognitive biases in large public groups, (2) social influence as an end unto itself and (3) formality and quantitative measurement. The Journal of Cognitive Security will address the impact of the increasing volume and variability of information available to anyone with a handheld device, the speed with which information is replicated, spread, and processed to anyone with the means to access the internet-protocol driven world and the ubiquity of handheld telecommunications and the resulting interactions of those pressures on societal change. In one sense, Christopher Paul Stelling is always ready to tour. He drives a Ford Transit van with a lofted bed in the back, and bins of albums, shirts and buttons beneath, along with a makeshift lounge behind the front seats. "I got that with 25,000 miles on it, it's got 155,000, I got it in 2017 and I didn't tour last year," he said. "You kinda use vehicles like Kleenex." On this day, he's pulled the van into the parking lot of Summit Coffee in the River Arts District and walked to a nearby picnic table to talk about the path to his newest record, "Forgiving it All." Stelling launches the album Sept. 25 at the Grey Eagle in Asheville.

This is one of our favorite interviews to date and we wholeheartedly encourage you to check out Best of Luck. Stelling will also be appearing in the Fretboard Journal #46, out in April. This episode is sponsored by Retrofret Vintage Guitars and Mono Cases.

In this episode of The TruthSeekah Podcast TruthSeekah is joined by Christopher Paul Carter as they discuss Conversing With Angels as we Discover The Heavens. When it comes to the topics of heaven and angels many evangelicals see the two as something far off and distant, and they've maybe heard stories of special people in the past encountering the two. Many in Christendom get excited by the talk of spiritual warfare and interactions with demons and there is no shortage of people who have encountered them. Yet, when it comes to the topic of angels and interactions with the heavenly hosts those same people will roll their eyes at you at the mention of angels. How is it that the church almost expects demonic encounters but interactions with angels they believe is something that does not happen. Let me be the first to tell you that we encounter angels, demons and all types of other sentient spiritual beings in our daily lives without even knowing it. In this conversation you will hear about some of Christopher Paul Carter's intimate experiences with the angels of heaven and a few of my personal encounters as well. We talked about the stars being spirits, the Zodiac or Mazzaroth, Out-of-body travels to heaven and other supernatural and mystical experiences that are freely accessible to every believer today! Heaven is not some place that we go to when we die, heaven is a place in which we live our daily lives seated in high places with Christ Jesus.

NEW YORK , NY - Happy New Year! With 2017 & 2018 colliding like two Six Nations' front rows, Week 29 of our Fantasy Sports Network show ushers in the New... by keeping the Old. Didn't see that one, coming, did you? Anyway, this latest installment of our Community Corner segment, via the Friends of the British Council, sheds new light on an on-going Old Boys Rugby Palooza - and its Cast of Characters. It's more than an excuse for Aging Wonders to get out of the house; it's keeping the Old young, while "hooking" the Young into playing, by watching the Old. Brilliant! Our Matt McCarthy was there as rugby once again defied thinking inside the box. Along with some great game footage and chuckle-worthy sideline commentary, there are entertaining/enlightening moments from the stellar ensemble, comprised of the following: -Christopher Paul (articulate young son/future hooker of Chris Paul) -Bayonne Bombers (the hosts) -Gentlemen of NY (New York Rugby Club) -Morris Rugby Masters -Lion Kings (Village Lions) -Connecticut Grey (perennial powerhouse) -A Frenchman in "the wrong Bayonne" -A blonde mutt creating chaos with match play As with the rugby community everywhere, the above "crafty" vets and attendees are from all over the planet, with funny talkers aplenty. France, Ireland, England, Wales, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Argentina were all represented, to name some. You can watch the full episode or in segments or listen on iTunes or SoundCloud. And you can always find all of what we do, including our shows, columns and breaking news, on http://rugbywrapup.com/ If our stuff is up to snuff, please share with your mates! More importantly, thanks for tuning in!
If you've followed the Target USA podcast, you are familiar with our series of reports called the Anatomy of a Russian Attack. In episodes 83 through 86, we unveiled a nearly yearlong investigation into Russia's meddling, and its attack on the U.S. election in 2016 and American democracy. On this week's episode, we continue the investigation by digging deeper into Russia's operation, why it appeared to be successful and the reality that what we've seen is possibly only the beginning. Former Office of the Director of National Intelligence general counsel Robert Litt, Dr. Christopher Paul with Rand Corporation and Time.com journalist Massimo Calabresi join us with expert context on this episode.
Amb. Courtney and Dr. Paul discuss the themes in their recent article, "Firehose of Falsehoods: Russian propaganda is pervasive, and America is behind the power curve in countering it." They will refer to the RAND Corporation report on "The Russian ‘Firehose of Falsehood' Propaganda Model: Why It Might Work and Options to Counter It." This lecture was given at The Institute of World Politics on November 10th 2016. Amb. William Courtney is an adjunct senior fellow at the RAND Corporation and executive director of the RAND Business Leaders Forum. He is also president of the U.S.-Kazakhstan Business Association, which represents U.S. exporters to and investors in Kazakhstan. In 2014 he retired from Computer Sciences Corporation as senior principal for federal policy strategy. From 1972 through 1999, he was a Foreign Service officer in the U.S. Department of State. He served as special assistant to the President for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia; Ambassador to Georgia, Kazakhstan, and the U.S.-Soviet commission that implemented the Threshold Test Ban Treaty; and deputy U.S. negotiator in the U.S.-Soviet Defense and Space Talks in Geneva. Christopher Paul, Ph.D. is a Senior Social Scientist working out of RAND's Pittsburgh office, where is the principal investigator for a number of defense and security related research projects. He also teaches at Carnegie Mellon University and in the Pardee RAND Graduate School. Prior to joining RAND full-time in July of 2002, he worked at RAND as adjunct staff for six years. His current and recent research efforts include analyses supporting security cooperation, information operations, counterinsurgency, irregular/unconventional warfare, and operations in cyberspace.

Recorded in Guelph, ON at the Pinball Studios, full sessions are released twice a week and can be found on http://pinballsessions.com. The Pinball Sessions Podcast offers up some of our favourite tracks as well as session room banter, interviews and other goodies unavailable on the Pinball Sessions website. For a 'behind the scenes' look at the making of a session, quirky questions asked to artists, and one of a kind moments be sure to keep an eye on the Pinball Sessions Podcast. THIS EPISODE: We get down and dirty with two hardcore roots artists: Gangstagrass and Christopher Paul Stelling. Gangstagrass blend hip-hop and traditional bluegrass, sometimes called 'Jay-Z meets Ralph Stanley.' Their track 'Long Hard Times To Come' is the theme song for the FX drama Justified and they recorded a session for us at Folk Alliance 2013. Definitely not your grandma's bluegrass as they perform their track 'Gunslingin' Rambler.' We then hear a short banter from of our next artist, Christopher Paul Stelling, as he prepares to record. Christopher Paul Stelling is a songwriter based in New York City who has toured the world playing his fiercely powerful songs, singing in a strong and weathered voice. His song Solar Flares was also performed at Folk Alliance this past year, just prior to the release of his new album and a European tour. CPS just doesn't stop moving.
