Leonard John Fraser: The Rockhampton Serial Killer and RapistLeonard John Fraser, infamously known as "The Rockhampton Rapist," is one of Australia's most notorious serial killers. His heinous crimes in the 1990s shocked the nation, leaving an indelible mark on the history of criminal activity in Queensland. This blog post delves into the life, crimes, and eventual capture of Fraser, shedding light on his dark legacy. The CrimesFraser's reign of terror in Rockhampton, a city in central Queensland, began in the mid-1990s. His crimes were particularly brutal, targeting vulnerable women and children. He was eventually linked to the disappearance and murder of several women, including Natasha Ryan, Beverly Leggo, Sylvia Benedetti, and Julie Turner. Fraser's method was particularly chilling. He would stalk his victims, often luring them with promises of assistance or friendship before brutally attacking and murdering them. His predatory behavior and the sheer brutality of his crimes earned him the reputation of one of Australia's most feared serial killers. The InvestigationThe investigation into Fraser's crimes was complex and lengthy. Despite the severity of his actions, Fraser managed to evade capture for several years. It wasn't until the disappearance of 14-year-old Natasha Ryan in 1998 that police began to piece together the extent of Fraser's criminal activities. Fraser was arrested in 1999 for unrelated charges, but the evidence against him soon mounted. The turning point came when Fraser began to boast about his crimes to fellow inmates while in custody. His detailed confessions provided crucial information to investigators, leading to the discovery of the remains of some of his victims. Fraser's own words became one of the most significant pieces of evidence against him.Trial and ConvictionLeonard John Fraser's trial was a media sensation in Australia. In 2003, he was found guilty of multiple counts of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The trial revealed the full extent of Fraser's brutality, with harrowing testimonies from survivors and detailed accounts of his crimes. One of the most shocking aspects of the trial was the revelation that Natasha Ryan, who was presumed dead and believed to be one of Fraser's victims, was found alive. She had been hiding for years, fearing Fraser's wrath and living in secrecy with her boyfriend. This unexpected twist added a layer of complexity to the case and highlighted the pervasive fear Fraser instilled in his victims.Legacy and ImpactLeonard John Fraser's crimes have left a lasting impact on the community of Rockhampton and beyond. His case prompted changes in how law enforcement approaches missing persons cases and investigations into serial crimes. The sheer brutality of his actions serves as a grim reminder of the potential for human evil and the importance of vigilance and justice in society.sources used for this podcastSend Kris and Rob a Text Message.Support the Show.JOIN THE HITCHED 2 HOMICIDE IN-LAWS AND OUTLAWSSTART KRIS CALVERT'S BOOKS TODAY FOR FREEH2H WEBSITEH2H on TWITTERH2H on INSTA

How does the United States coordinate with regional partners to promote human rights in North Korea? In this episode, we speak with Ambassador Julie Turner, the U.S. Special Envoy for North Korean Human Rights at the Department of State. Ambassador Turner is globally recognized as an expert in human rights and democracy and has worked over the past 20 years to strengthen democratic institutions and promote human rights throughout the East Asia and Pacific Region. As a career civil service employee and former Presidential Management Fellow, Ambassador Turner has dedicated her career to advancing human rights around the world. We discuss how the United States and its allies in the region play a role in protecting and promoting human rights in North Korea, how the United States balances Human Rights with some of its hardline measures – like economic sanctions and military deterrence, and how Ambassador Turner engages with the broader Korean American community.A note that the acronym DPRK refers to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the country's official title, which is also commonly referred to as North Korea. This podcast is produced in partnership with the Pearson Institute for the Study and Resolution of Global Conflicts. North Korea failed this week to place a spy satellite into orbit for the third time in four attempts since last year, after a carrier rocket exploded shortly after a satellite launch on Monday night. NK News correspondent Shreyas Reddy joins the podcast to talk about what went wrong, and why the DPRK opted to use a new engine after achieving success with a different design last November. Then, Ambassador Julie Turner sits down in the studio to discuss her work as the U.S. special envoy for North Korean human rights issues and why Washington is determined to have a dialogue with the DPRK about human rights. She explains why she believes international scrutiny can help improve the human rights situation inside the DPRK, whether the U.S. should send information into the country and why she doesn't take Pyongyang's attacks on her background and work personally. Julie Turner was sworn in as the U.S. special envoy for North Korean human rights issues on Oct. 13, 2023. A career civil service employee, she previously served as the office director in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Office of East Asia and the Pacific at the U.S. Department of State and previously was the director for Southeast Asia at the National Security Council. About the podcast: The North Korea News Podcast is a weekly podcast hosted by Jacco Zwetsloot (@JaccoZed) exclusively for NK News, covering all things DPRK — from news to extended interviews with leading experts and analysts in the field, along with insight from our very own journalists.

April 9, 2024 - Join us for a conversation about recovering lost ground in the international effort to address North Korea's human rights violations, featuring: Ambassador Julie Turner, U.S. Special Envoy for North Korean Human Rights Issues, James Heenan, UN Human Rights Office representative in Seoul, Dr. Katrin Katz, Korea Society Van Fleet Senior Fellow, and Sean Chung, CEO of HanVoice, in conversation with policy director Jonathan Corrado. The United Nations Human Rights Council published its landmark report of the commission of inquiry on human rights in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea ten years ago. That report documented “systematic, widespread and grave violations of human rights” in North Korea. But the international effort to ensure accountability, involving U.S. coordination with allies such as the Republic of Korea and through the United Nations, is only just beginning. The U.S. State Department describes credible reports of unlawful or arbitrary killings by the government, harsh and life-threatening prison conditions, arbitrary arrests and detentions, total state control of expression and media through censorship, severe restrictions on political participation, gender-based violence, and the worst forms of child labor. A Korean American adoptee with twenty years of diplomatic experience, Ambassador Julie Turner said, “The human rights situation in the DPRK is one of the most protracted human rights crises in the world,” in her testimony to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. This discussion explores issues impacting refugees, information distribution, separated family reunions, pathways to practical progress, North Korean human rights success stories, the connection between the regime's human rights abuses and its weapons programs, and the nexus of humanitarian assistance and human rights. About whining a national, prestigious award, Julie shares “the drive for me was never an award - an award I never knew anything about by the way - I LOVE my family and want to know that taking care of them WELL is in my power.” She LOVES helping people and shares you MUST have passion!!! The ingredient for passion is CARING about their motivations, not a transaction. "You can be transactional and just get the deal done, or you can be relational and win deal after deal after deal!" She shares, “Being competitive is ok as long as it's with yourself and the version of who you were yesterday!" … BOOOM! On this week's episode of the Health Ignited podcast, Drs. Nick and Sonya talk to Julie Turner, Hypnotherapist, Speaker and Coach, about navigating relationships with ourselves and others, fostering healthy communication, and showing up openly and authentically in all of our interactions. Having worked as a hairdresser and making house calls for families, Julie observed different relational dynamics and became fascinated with the various layers of these relationships. She developed a curiosity about the ways people communicate with each other and why some approaches seemed to encourage healthy connection while others pushed people apart. Julie was inspired to take a number of courses (in nutrition, counselling, business, coaching and hypnotherapy) with the goal of better understanding these dynamics, and she now helps individuals from all walks of life improve their wellbeing and develop strategies for creating happier, more nurturing relationships with their loved ones. In this episode, we discuss healthy communication tools and practices, the similarities between hypnotherapy and meditation, the importance of transparency and neutrality when relating to others, how intuition breaks down the rigidity caused by expectations and assumptions, and the relationship between the physical and emotional bodies when understanding (and ultimately releasing) the pain we carry.   You can learn more about Julie Turner and explore her inspiring videos, podcasts and courses at https://julieturner.ca/
