#229 - He was face down in the ocean, paralyzed, and running out of time. Patrick Yalon went out for a routine surf at San Francisco's Ocean Beach and never came back the same person and he's honest about how close he came to not coming back at all.We talk through the full arc: the low-tide wipeout that breaks his neck, the foggy scramble that ends with his friend finding him blue in the water, and the CPR that brings him back. From there it's ICU uncertainty, brutal nerve pain, and a nine-and-a-half-hour spinal fusion from C3 to C5 with titanium hardware. Patrick doesn't skip the dark parts: identity loss, depression, and the exhausting question of whether his body will ever work the way it used to.Then the story pivots from survival to purpose. Patrick chooses a wildly specific goal for spinal cord injury recovery and resilience: Moab 240, one of the toughest ultramarathons in the world. He lines up just months after the accident, grinds out 144 miles in 2024, then travels to Thailand to keep healing through daily Muay Thai training, time in the mountains, and a search for meaning and faith. He also shares why helping others with similar accidents matters so much, and how finishing Moab 240 in 2025 through storms, mud, lightning, and sleep deprivation becomes a shared victory with the friend who saved his life.Patrick is writing a memoir called Still Here and continues raising money and awareness for people impacted by spinal cord injuries. Great Patient Results is the Fastest Way to Grow a Large Spinal Injury Practice TodayLet's be honest.Doctors in the spinal injury market who can consistently deliver great physical recovery results should be some of the highest-paid doctors in healthcare today — without question. Why?Because too few doctors truly understand what these injuries actually look like. Even fewer can objectively identify them. And fewer still can produce consistent, measurable, physical recovery results in patients suffering from spinal ligament injuries and instability. That's a problem. If you are one of the rare doctors who can accurately evaluate these injuries and help patients genuinely recover, you should not be competing on price. You should not be chasing cases. You should not be struggling for referrals. You should be positioned as the only logical choice. The only logical choice for patients who need real answers. The only logical choice for attorneys and professionals is a doctor capable of documenting and rehabilitating these injuries properly. The only logical choice in your local market — period. And if you can get great physical recovery results, you deserve every bit of help available to make sure your entire community knows exactly who you are, where you are, and why you're different. That's what this podcast is about.Because getting great patient results isn't just good medicine. It's the fastest, most ethical, and most sustainable way to grow your spinal injury practice today.

10 Benefits of a Spinal Injury Practice In this episode, Dr. Cronk outlines the 10 key benefits of running a spinal injury practice and explains why it is one of the most emotionally satisfying, financially stable, and scalable models in chiropractic. He discusses how injury practices consistently deliver measurable patient results, reduce the risk of chronicity, and eliminate the financial stress and difficult payment conversations common in cash and insurance-based care. Dr. Cronk explains why injury documentation is simpler, treatment options are less restricted, and why the clinic—not the doctor—becomes the brand, making it far easier to integrate associates and build standardized systems. He also covers how even a small percentage of injury care dramatically increases practice value and why learning to attract injury patients unlocks better marketing for every service in the clinic. This episode provides a practical, experience-driven case for why spinal injury practices offer fewer downsides and far greater long-term rewards for doctors.

The Hidden Spinal Injury Gold Inside Your Patient DatabaseIn this episode of the Smart Injury Doctors Podcast, Dr. Jeffrey Alan Cronk explains why the greatest growth opportunity for injury clinics isn't chasing new patient schemes—it's activating the gold already inside your clinic. He breaks down why referral marketing delivers the highest ROI, how educating patients turns them into an army of marketers, and why most clinics fail to clearly communicate what truly makes them unique. Dr. Cronk shows how simple, patient-focused language, advanced yet inexpensive diagnostics, and systemized internal referrals can generate massive, predictable growth without neglecting your existing patient base.

The arena was filled with the shouts and screams of the terrified men and women in the stands, horrified by what they were seeing. After a few moments, the other combatants had been secured to the ground. The Heroes stood up to stretch, preparing to begin their search for the corresponding tablet they required.
