We explore the science of emotional triggers and how reframing these powerful psychological responses can transform our wellbeing and relationships. Triggers aren't character flaws but learned protective mechanisms that can be harnessed as valuable messengers about our unmet needs and deepest values.• Emotional triggers activate our brain's threat-response system, bypassing rational thinking• Unmanaged triggers impact our professional relationships, intimate connections, and personal growth• Reframing begins with creating space between the trigger and our response• The STOP method (Stop, Take a breath, Observe, Proceed) interrupts automatic reactions• Multiple perspectives tool helps generate different interpretations of triggering situations• Daily integration happens through small moments of practice in everyday situations• Success stories demonstrate how reframing transforms real-life relationshipsVisit our website at www.kore-fit.com and follow us on Instagram at kore fitness AZ. Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: When you marry, your heart overflows with enthusiasm, exhilaration, and optimism. You can't wait to start a new life with this one whose mere presence or voice causes an abundance of feel-good neurotransmitters to your brain. But soon after, differences in temperament, gender, family of origin, and marital expectations collide. You discover that the characteristics and behaviors you once found attractive in your mate, are now sources of irritation and frustration. Conflict erupts, causing reactivity in your temperament to surface more often. Before long, your dialogue degrades with frequent accusations and debates about perspective. The enemy in this fight isn't your spouse. Unmanaged reactivity, those involuntary and unregulated reactive messages you inadvertently send your spouse when you're triggered is the culprit. Today, Dr. Donald Welch joins me to talk about how to recognize reactivity, understand its origin and work together to eliminate it, learning to respond rather than react in our marriages. Quotables from the episode: The enemy is not your spouse. Our temperament is really the way God made us. And so understanding how we are made allows us to become more comfortable and really at peace with who we are and who we are not, because we're created in God's image. And as we embrace our natural temperament, we are then in a better position to also accept and embrace our spouses temperament rather than trying to change them into someone they aren't. Before marriage, there's a tendency to attract to the opposite and after marriage to attack that opposite when it's really one of our best friends in a healthy marriage. So, as we learn more about our temperament, we can focus on enhancing our strengths and minimizing our weaknesses. The way God made us is to be able to protect ourselves. So for example, if I were to touch or you were to touch something hot, your hand or my hand would react before the brain knows it's hot. It's a way to protect ourselves. So what happens with the limbic system is that we can have all sorts of reactions. Like for example, if I squint my eyes, the other person or we're having dialogue, you might involuntarily react to it. Or if somebody screams or you hear something sharp, you might have a reaction to be awakened to see, do I need to take care of something? So we have hundreds of these normal reactions, and I've seen it for 40 years in marriages, in the sense of working with couples, that they will tend to react to each other before they're aware and then they're off to the races, and it's difficult to decrease that. So I define reactivity as involuntary, unconscious thought, uncontrolled relationship, impeding behaviors that originate from the feeling part of our brain known as the limbic system. We can have these involuntary reactions in a marriage that actually set up the marriage for difficulty. So since these originate from the feeling part of the brain rather than the thinking part of the brain, they're largely outside of our conscious awareness, so it can make it insidious to the relationship. So we want awareness. Is it possible that we react to present conflict even based out of past wounds in other relationships? - Oh yes, that's very common. In fact, it's why unfortunately, second marriages move up to about 80 % of potentially divorce because they're bringing in those reactions. In my opinion, those reactions, and there's what I believe support this, is that those reactions are coming into the relationship. And so now that person reminds me of something from the past. That's why those first eight years of life for any child are incredibly important because we are, the way our brains design, we absorb emotion and then that emotion can stay with us and then we can practice it without even knowing and then it's a reaction into adulthood. You suggest that the greater a couple's differences, the more likely their marriage will be to succeed. And that's not what society typically says, so help us understand that a bit. Yes, that's a fascinating concept that really God created the opposite, man and woman. And may I just quickly tie into this idea of wounds and how it may impact your current question because many people believe that their past is the past and it does not affect them now. Others may believe that their past can affect them but they think they have dealt with it and it is now irrelevant. The truth is emotions never forget. There is nothing ambiguous about marriage in the Bible. It is far superior to any other permutation—offering stability for kids, security for spouses, and higher rates of happiness overall. Intimacy only exists in an environment filled with trust and loyalty. Intimacy can be defined as a close relationship that does not operate at the expense of the self, with a self that does not operate at the expense of the other, and in which each person is fully known and fully loved. The freedom to choose to respond rather than react is a gift of being human. Love only exists where choice is present. When choice is eliminated, so is intimacy. The path out of reactivity to a responsive marriage is a continuous journey to discover the fulfilling and deeply satisfying marriage you desire. Fewer adults are getting and staying married. Those who do tend to have unrealistic expectations or poor communication and conflict resolution skills. When one understands and embraces their natural temperament and learns to minimize negative reactivity in the expression of their temperament, their important relationships will flourish and grow. A relationship lacking nurture wipes out any trust one may have in the other person. Unmet expectations are relationship killers. Intimacy only exists in an environment filled with trust and loyalty. We can't simply change the definition of marriage and think you can solve relationship problems. No studies show any form of alternative family as better than what has been traditionally defined for millenia. Scripture References: Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 5 Galatians 5 Romans 4:17 As it is written: "I have made you a father of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed--the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not. Welcome to episode 116. This episode is for you if you are responsible for managing projects in an agency. This one could be quite controversial, but equally very enlightening because my guest is going to be potentially challenging your belief about the role of project management. Jack's Skeel's book is called ‘UNMANAGED' and Jack makes a very compelling case for the fact that teams work more effectively when managed less, not more. During this chat we cover: • why agencies should be asking themselves what they need to start unmanaging rather than managing the origin of project management, and why it doesn't work in an uncertain environment like an agency. • how less management can boost profitability and productivity • what we can learn from Japanese management culture • what Jack sees as the future of the way agencies operate • and the biggest mistake agencies make when scaling. This is such a good chat and I enjoyed being challenged to think about what we consider really the ‘sacred cow' agency operating structure. I love Jack's work and I'd urge you to get in touch because he's saving agencies tons and tons of money by completely shaking their operations up. In today's episode, we dive into the delicate relationship between anxiety and success. Often viewed as a disorder, anxiety can actually serve as a powerful catalyst for achievement when properly managed. However, left unchecked, it can morph into a debilitating force. Individuals experiencing anxiety may find themselves becoming more detail-oriented, driven by a relentless pursuit of excellence.Achieving Goals: Anxiety can act as a driving force behind goal attainment. The fear of failure inherent in anxiety often compels individuals to push themselves beyond their limits, striving to reach new heights of success.Discipline and Determination: Those who struggle with anxiety on a daily basis develop a remarkable degree of discipline. Jack, welcome to the show. Thanks so much for having me, Steve. Pleasure to be here today. Well, I'm excited to have you because you have a very exciting background, your journey through consulting and the Rand Corporation. I mean, I was an avid reader of Ayn Rand, and I know that some of her values kind of were lived on in the Rand Corporation, which is a big think tank. And now you entered entrepreneurship several years ago and you're running Agency Agile. So tell us a little bit about your journey and how did you end up here and authoring a book on management? Thank you. You know, there's a little bit of irony in the whole story. I just realized the other day, I saw, you know, the topics we were going to discuss. And when I came out of college, I was a programmer, and the first thing I learned about the workplace was that all my managers were stupid. I was trained in robotics, and no one else knew robotics. But they give you a manager, right, and the manager didn't know anything about it. And so I was struck by the cynicism about what is it that managers do anyways, especially when I got some bigger work going on. I had project managers over me and I'm like, they don't know what to do either. And ironically, of course, I became a manager pretty quickly. So I had to sort of figure that part out. But all my life, actually, as I went through, I built a consultancy in the 1990s. We had 90 people and did a program management. And like you said, I ended up at a think tank because I sold my company. Didn't get rich off of it, but sold it and went to go get my MBA. And then part of the internship during the summer, I worked at a think tank and they asked me to stay. And I ended up staying for four years and went back another time later on in my career. The thing that happened along the way, by the way, Rand doesn't like managers either particularly because they're all researchers and they're sort of like a bunch of cats that don't like being herded sort of thing. And so I was in good company there as well. What happened really during the next 10 years is really interesting from the perspective of I got back out in the real world and I'd been doing work at RAND around organizational research on how knowledge worker organizations should operate. And I'd learned a lot. I had to, you know, because I had to do some reports on it and the like. And then I started working in the world of advertising and marketing agencies. And these are very cool organizations. We've all seen Mad Men and stuff like that, but they're very crazy chaotic organizations as well. And what I realized was a lot of what I'd learned in that research at RAND is stuff that would help agencies. And it helps all kinds of organizations. But ironically, all the way back to that, you know, the little smart-ass, smart-mouthed kid that I was in, you know, 1982 or so, it all pointed back at managers and that we actually don't manage in complex situations very well. So, Jack, sorry to stop you there, but define to me agency. Is it just advertising agencies or agency would be any professional service firm which is hired for a job? Yeah,

In this episode, Walter Lee and Travis Thompson discuss the need for community in the outdoor space and the creation of Florida Fridays. They explore the unique challenges of hunting in Florida and how the skills honed in the state can translate to other states. They emphasize the role of apathy in conservation and the need for collective action and representation. It emphasizes the importance of strategic conservation efforts and the need for sportsmen and women to align behind organizations that fight for the preservation of the state. It concludes with a discussion on the importance of the right to fish and hunt and the upcoming ballot initiative in Florida. Takeaways Florida is a unique paradise for outdoorsmen, with abundant hunting and fishing opportunities throughout the year. The skills honed in Florida can translate to other states, but the reverse is often not true due to the different environment and challenges. The hunting and fishing industry should focus on creating a community and fostering mentorship to ensure the long-term sustainability of the sport. Apathy and a focus on the kill rather than the experience can hinder conservation efforts and the growth of hunting and fishing. Increased engagement, representation, and funding are necessary to address the challenges and preserve the sportsman paradise in Florida. A vocal minority can have a significant impact on driving change. There is a disconnect between land managers and hunters, with some land managers not fully understanding or participating in hunting and fishing activities. Increasing access and opportunity for hunting and fishing can have positive ripple effects on wildlife management and conservation. Telling a compelling conservation story is crucial for engaging and connecting with people. Public-private partnerships can provide opportunities for increased access to hunting and fishing. Connecting people to the way of life in Florida and the importance of hunting and fishing is crucial for conservation efforts. Unmanaged growth and urban sprawl pose significant challenges to conservation efforts. Advocacy and funding are crucial in conservation efforts. The one I consistently hear from entrepreneurs is their desire to feel more control in the business. It's extremely vulnerable to feel like you lack a fundamental sense of agency in influencing outcomes. But this lack of control is the not the problem. It's the symptom of a deeper problem. That deeper problem is unmitigated entropy. Entropy is a fact of life.No system is immune to it. Not your business, life, mind, relationships, body……nothing. Unmanaged, systems deteriorate into chaos. And chaos is extremely hard to scale.(Not to mention, energetically expensive)Most entrepreneurs unintentionally build a high entropy business. It's a recipe for constant overwhelm and underwhelming results. This clip is from a deeper conversation with a client who knows his business is capable of more.By intentionally minimizing entropy, he will be able to scale further, faster, with significantly less stress and effort. This is one of the ways the Scale with Psychology Accelerator helps founders scale with their mind, not with their time. Conflict erupts, causing reactivity in your temperament to surface more often. Before long, your dialogue degrades with frequent accusations and debates about perspective. Today, our guest will show us the enemy in this fight isn’t our spouse. MSPs vs Vendor Controlled Remote Access The FBI advisory to private sector industries was released and raises some interesting questions regarding MSPs. While not specifically mentioning MSPs by name, the advisory covers general threats from ransomware and how they are being executed. Doesn't mention MSPs, but they are clearly being addressed in this notice 3rd parties and legitimate system tools All the guidance the FBI provides is already well established in the MSP Verify program Unmanaged vs Managed IT Unmanaged Devices - still think break/fix is an effective IT management model? “80 to 90 % of all compromises originate from unmanaged devices...Most human-operated ransomware attacks attempt to compromise or gain access to unmanaged or bring-your own devices (personal devices used to access work-related systems and information). That has become a mantra that has guided me through challenges. On the other side of pain, loss, and confusion can be incredible clarity and purpose. It's okay to veer away from a plan when it no longer aligns with your purpose. This episode I highlight three major lessons I've learned that will shift your mindset from a feeling of rock bottom to setting a solid foundation for your future. Sometimes, it's important to disconnect from the noise around you and reconnect with your own spark. Taking a step back, being open to new experiences, and meeting new people. Calming the chaos around you also means reining in your curiosity. Unmanaged curiosity can lead to unbelievable chaos. Be aware of the energy of those around us and to seek support from individuals who genuinely believe in us. Being surrounded by supportive individuals can help you get realigned with your passions, purpose, and opportunities best fit for you. It doesn't happen overnight. Nurture meaningful connections, stay true to your purpose, and focus on living with integrity. Lasting and impactful output is a direct result of the relationships you have with the people around you. Pay attention to the internal pulls telling you change needs to happen. Sometimes that means disconnecting from what is familiar to reconnect with your authentic self. If you know someone who could use a spark of hope in their journey, share this episode with them. What feels like rock bottom can become the foundation for a more purpose-aligned future.

Unmanaged: Master the Magic of Creating Empowered and Happy Organizations by Jack Skeels https://amzn.to/464UHo7 Agencyagile.com Former executive, two-time Inc 500 award-winning entrepreneur, and think-tank management scientist Jack Skeels, in his new book, Unmanaged: Master the Magic of Creating Empowered and Happy Organizations, lays out the blueprint for how to make agencies – and many other types of organizations run better, faster and happier. Drawing on more than a decade of applied research with over 200 agencies and other high-performance organizations, Skeels presents a compelling case that managing less can be the key to managing better. In its six-part structure, the book takes leaders and managers through the origins of why we manage the way we do today, and how a new style of managing—within which one can see the echoes of Agile methods—boosts everything from project success rates to organizational productivity, profitability and happiness. In its 300 pages, Unmanaged both provides not only the rationale, but also a large number of battle-tested methods for implementing better managing, proven both within his consultancy and in prior work. The book is laced with real-world vignettes that often make managers and leaders laugh (or cringe) in recognition of their own managerial faux pas. There are over ten practical new models of managing that the reader and their organization can make, ranging from better ways to kick-off and scope projects, boost team skills growth, align better with stakeholders and clients, and ensure worker and team productivity. Leaders will be drawn to several topics that explain the power of Unmanaged's techniques to reduce the cost of meetings, enhance DEI initiatives, and implement better organization models and metrics. While Unmanaged has its origins in digital and marketing agencies, Skeels, who spent much of his career in technology and management consulting, makes a compelling argument that the project-driven workthat they perform (complex, unique, innovative or complex projects) represents the future of human work as AI and other forms of automation displace simpler factory and service style workers. The future of knowledge work is project work. The book is written from a manager-centric perspective, informing many managerial roles found in agencies and elsewhere, including a significant focus on the discipline of project management, its many challenges and failures. At its heart, the book preaches a gospel that hints of Buddhism, urging that managers and leaders can do better by being more aware and less reactive. Jack shares his insights on why traditional management practices are often ineffective and how a new style of managing can lead to better productivity, profitability, and happiness in organizations. He emphasizes the importance of self-awareness, avoiding biases, and giving everyone a chance to grow and contribute. "How many times have the followers of Jesus approached the grace of God as though it's ours to manage — to carefully plan and plot, to distribute out in the most cautious and sparing ways, deciding where it should fall and who should receive it and who should not? And it has been to our complete loss. But God is nothing like that. Not at all."
Welcome to this new series of episodes where we'll focus on topics specific to breakups and heartbreak recovery. Heartbreak is a universal human experience. But why do some people get stuck in heartbreak, while others are able to move on? In this podcast episodes, we explore the three main reasons why people get stuck in heartbreak: Unmanaged negative thoughts and beliefs: When we go through a breakup, it's common to have negative thoughts about ourselves, the other person, and the situation. These negative thoughts can trigger negative emotions, such as sadness, guilt, anger, and loneliness. These negative emotions can then lead to more negative thoughts, creating a vicious cycle. Negative actions taken from a place of pain and grief: When we're feeling hurt and heartbroken, it's easy to make decisions that we later regret. For example, we may stalk our ex on social media, contact them repeatedly even though they've asked us to leave them alone, turn to alcohol or drugs to numb our pain, engage in self-destructive behaviors, or withdraw from our friends and family and isolate ourselves. Negative actions will only make heartbreak worse in the long run. Unhealthy relationship patterns:Many people repeat the same unhealthy relationship patterns over and over again. This can be because they're unaware of their patterns, or because they're afraid to change. If we want to break free from heartbreak, we need to be willing to acknowledge our unhealthy relationship patterns and learn from them. In this podcast episode, we'll discuss each of these reasons in more detail and offer practical advice on how to overcome them. We'll also share stories from people who have been through heartbreak and come out the other side stronger. Which spend categories should procurement control would always be debatable. Most companies may have a budget threshold where they might dictate the involvement of procurement. But this approach might not be suitable for every category. Some categories may be so strategic, even if the budget threshold may not be as high, that the business might want to take over because of the cross-functional implications or risks. These categories might also have very unique workflows and processes that require unique designs compared to the other categories. In today's episode, our guest, Sudhir Bhojwani and Yuan Tung discusses the best practices for managing unmanaged spend. They also discuss the disconnect between procurement and business and the scope of procurement. Finally, they describe where ORO labs fit in the enterprise architecture and how it compares with other workflow automation tools, P2P, CLM, etc.For more information on growth strategies for SMBs using ERP and digital transformation, visit our community at wbs.rocks or elevatiq.com.
