My friend Eva joins me for this episode, since both of us just finished Sunrise on the Reaping, and honestly? We are not okay. This book completely wrecked us (yes, there were tears), and now we have no idea how to pick up another book. In this episode, we dive deep into how this prequel compares to the original Hunger Games books, the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and the movies. We break down the incredible connections, the devastating Easter eggs, and the haunting truth that Snow never really moved on from Lucy Gray—even 40 years later. If you love pain, heartbreak, and mind-blowing details about the Hunger Games universe, this one's for you!

Lucy Gray, aka Doodling Lucy, was told that you couldn't make a business from art. This was by a teacher... what a shortsighted statement that was.... Initially, she listened to this limiting and, quite frankly, inaccurate statement, taking action on it and taking a course in psychology at university. But, luckily, the opportunity presented itself for Lucy to embrace her talents again and create Doodling Lucy which is a brand that has become a real hit with so many people. Today, we chat all about the growth of the business, covid, Australia, finding a way to make it work, and so much more besides. I LOVED chatting to Lucy on this podcast. Her perspective on her business, being self employed, embracing adventure and serving her community was so interesting and I'm so grateful that she shared her thoughts on this episode.

Since the Hunger Games was released in 2008 there have been attempts to ban the book(s) due to what many say are satanic, occult, or illuminati themes. Defenders of the titles say there is nothing at all occult, religious, etc., about the stories. Suffice to say, both are wrong. The newest book, and recently released movie, is titled ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes'. Readers of myth already know the meaning, as the bird is the enemy of serpents. Apollo killed the python, St Michael kills the dragon, and even the Semitic Aleph is a sword driven into a serpent. The title can be directly corollated to Beauty and Beast, too, since Belle is the harmonious beauty and music which calms the animal. The main character in the new Hunger Games movie, Lucy Gray, has this ability in more ways than one. We can also find reference here to Genesis 3 wherein God curses the serpent to be crushed by the offspring of the woman. Lucy is set up in the movie with serpents to represent both Isis, and the woman from Revelation 12; she who is ready to give birth but is surrounded by the darkness of the dragon; she who is clothed in solar protection and crowned by a halo of 12 stars - the numbered district Lucy is taken from as tribute. From the start of the film, the masonic square and compass also features prominently at the Capitol district. These symbols draw the authority of said state. The floor of the arena where the games take place is also painted with a black sun. All of these symbols relate to Saturn. The rose likewise features prominently in the film. Viewers see the red, then white, then yellow rose, all featured in relation to the unfolding dialogue and scene - passion, purity, friendship. Since Saturn, whose metal is lead, is so obviously represented, it is only appropriate that the golden rose, bird, and snake be the symbols of the Hunger Games series. Lead transformed to gold is symbolic of the internal transformation which sees the dragon-ego conquered to strip power from the beast-animal-self, and allow direct access to the dragon's gold. Dat Rosa Mel Apibus means ‘The Rose Gives Honey to Bees', and it is this honey, or ambrosia, or elixir of life, which is our reward. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5328407/advertisement

Hey everyone, the Hunger Games prequel - The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes - released in theaters a week ago. I had the chance to see it last week but did not have time to review until today so I thought I'd share my thoughts, especially considering I am not really a fan of these movies and might give a unique perspective. So, does the latest Hunger Games film feel like more of the same or does this origin tale telling the story of the rise of Snow in Panem reinvigorate the franchise? Find out in this review. Brenna and Joe return to Panem for The Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, directed by franchise regular Francis Lawrence. While Joe struggles with the transition from Part 2 to 3, Brenna is unconvinced by lead actor Tom Blyth or the romance between Snow and Lucy Gray.We do, however, have plenty of praise for Viola Davis, Hunter Schafer and Jason Schwartzman, as well as the costume design and the politics of the dystopia.Perhaps it simply needed to be a (mini)series instead of a 2 hour 40 minute movie?Missed our discussion of the book? For the most part, The Hunger Games prequel, SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES is an entertaining, drama-steep romp. But it should be two movies, not one. And, on top of that, we have some criticisms on the casting of this movie. Should Tom Blyth had played Coriolanus Snow? Should Josh Andrés Rivera had played Sejanus Plinth? Should Rachel Zegler had even played Lucy Gray? Let us tell you our takes and then you tell us yours!

It isn't snagging a breakout role in a major Hollywood film, but once you do, the pressure doesn't stop there. Picking the right follow-up projects, ones that allow an actor to continue honing their craft while also further solidifying the artist one wants to present to the industry, is of the utmost importance. That's the phase we find Rachel Zegler in. After delivering a staggeringly beautiful debut feature performance in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story, it's on to a beloved franchise, a remake of a Disney classic, and an A24 comedy. The first out of the gate for that trio is The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The role of Lucy Gray Baird is a massive challenge to take on for a number of reasons. First off, Zegler must follow in the footsteps of Jennifer Lawrence who delivered impeccable work as Katniss Everdeen in the original Hunger Games movies. Not only must Zegler take up the mantle of Hunger Games lead, but she's doing so with a character with an especially bubbly personality who very much walks to the beat of her own drum. Zegler was tasked with capturing Lucy Gray's infectious song and spirit, but without ever undermining the severity of the situation she finds herself in, and Zegler absolutely nails it.The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes takes place 64 years before Katniss volunteers for the 74th Hunger Games. The 10th Hunger Games is a wholly different spectacle. The Capitol has yet to develop its hi-tech arena, hovercrafts, and disturbing array of cruel mutts. Instead, the tributes are starving, the bloodbath unfolds in an old stone arena, and they struggle to get Capitol citizens to watch. However, this year could be different because this time around, the tributes have mentors. When a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) is assigned to mentor District 12's Lucy Gray, he's determined to get her to capture the hearts of Capitol citizens just like she did his, via song and simply being a ray of light in horrible situation. With The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes now playing in theaters nationwide, and already racking up $44 million at the domestic box office, Zegler took the time to join me for a Collider Ladies Night conversation to discuss her goals as she continues to carve her path in Hollywood.
