Send us a text Deviating from her normal content, Hannah reviews two books this week for today's podcast. First up is an autobiography by Sonora Carver-- A Girl and Five Brave Horses. This first book is the true story about horse diving in the United States. Wrapped up in the friendship between Wild Bill Hickok, Buffalo Bill, and Doc Carver, the origin of horse diving is fascinating and the full story is bound to intrigue any history lover, but especially horse enthusiasts. Hannah next reviews the book Mama Bear Apologetics by Hillary Morgan Ferrer et al. Written for moms but appropriate for both parents, this is a dive into the various ideologies our children face in the 21st century. Ferrer and her co-authors help parents recognize the various ideologies and then respond to them Biblically. Walking us through the critique are author and Mama Bear Apologetics founder Hillary Morgan Ferrer and her co-host, Amy Davison. Our guest again this week is author and apologist Lindsey Medenwaldt, who continues to share with us insights and her personal experiences with apologetics and evangelism. The Apostle Paul tells his fellow Christians in Corinth to do all to the glory of God. What does that mean? Do we have to be a popular evangelist or a pastor or have a successful social media following to glorify God? Must we be gregarious, outgoing evangelists who have no fear of man in order to win the world to Jesus? No. In whatever situation in which God has placed us, we can do all for the glory of God. Our witness to the world is most effectively accomplished through how we live our lives, in whatever vocation that might be. Our witness should be authentic, sincere, and candid, so that a world in need of hope can see how we have a hope in Christ that does not disappoint. Lindsey Medenwaldt is the Director of Ministry Operations at Mama Bear Apologetics, and is the resident worldview and world religion specialist. In the 12th chapter of Paul's first letter to Corinth, he reminds the church that "the body is not one member but many... the eye cannot say to the hand 'I have no need of you.'" The Spirit of God has distributed diverse gifts to the body of Christ. We each have unique gifts and abilities which we can use to help encourage and edify one another as fellow Christians. Though not all of us have the gift of evangelism, we are all called to be ready to give a defense for the hope that is in us, with gentleness and reverence. We are all included in the Great Commission. But we will each go about sharing our faith diverse and unique ways with others. Our guest this week and next is author and apologist Lindsey Medenwaldt. She shares some of her insights about apologetics and evangelism in her new book Bridge-Building Apologetics. With Halloween around the corner, the rise in fascination with witchcraft and the occult becomes all the more noticeable, especially among young girls. In this week's special episode of the Raising Godly Girls Podcast, host Patti Garibay is joined by Amy Davison of Mama Bear Apologetics to explore how parents can guide their daughters away from the spiritual dangers of witchcraft and toward the freedom found in Christ. In today's culture, witchcraft is often portrayed as innocent fun—whether it's casting spells, playing with Ouija boards, or following the latest New Age trends. However, Amy shares from her personal experience as a former "almost witch" in her teenage years, revealing the allure and dangers of these practices. Together, Patti and Amy discuss why witchcraft seems appealing to many young girls and how parents can discern between harmless Halloween festivities and spiritually harmful influences. Throughout the conversation, Amy unpacks the cultural normalization of witchcraft, its connection to the feminist movement, and how practices like crystals and astrology are being presented as empowering and harmless. She offers practical, Biblical wisdom on how to counter these messages, help girls understand the truth of God's Word, and protect them from the subtle but dangerous influences of the occult. Tune in to learn how to equip your daughters with the tools to navigate this Halloween season and beyond, ensuring their hearts remain rooted in the truth of Scripture. An astronomical number of Christian young people are leaving the faith after they leave the nest. A recent New LifeWay Research survey shows that two-thirds of Christian youth stop attending church for at least a year between the ages of 18 and 22.A study from the Assemblies of God shows that “at least half and possibly over two-thirds of Christian young people will step away from the faith while attending a non-Christian college or university.” A similar study from the Southern Baptist Convention “indicates that they are currently losing 70-88% of their youth after their freshman year in college.”In her recent book, Mama Bear Apologetics, Hillary Morgan Ferrer offers a somber reality when it comes to our Christian teens and twenty-somethings: “Most studies indicate between 45%-48% of youth leave the church after their freshman year in college and never return.” (pg. 27)If the massive youth exodus we are experiencing in the church doesn't concern us as parents, it should. In this “Best Of” re-airing of CPCW's inaugural episode, Catherine breaks down what is happening to youth in our churches, so we as parents can understand how to counteract this trend. The discussion centers on "bridge building apologetics," a method designed to foster meaningful dialogue and connections despite differing beliefs, particularly in religion and politics. Daniel McCoy opens the interview by introducing Lindsey and her impressive background. He asks Lindsey to explain the concept of "bridge building apologetics" and its significance in today's divisive climate. Lindsey describes it as speaking truth with love and maintaining friendships despite disagreements on significant issues like religion and politics, encouraging a culture of respectful dialogue. John Whittaker joins the conversation, asking Lindsey to share a personal story illustrating her approach. Lindsey recounts her interactions with atheists, both online and in person, emphasizing mutual respect. She notes that respectful discourse is often lacking within Christian communities and stresses the importance of embodying Christ-like characteristics in disagreements. The discussion shifts to political polarization. Using hypothetical characters, McCoy explores the fears, hopes, and narratives of Republicans and Democrats. Lindsey highlights the dangers of assuming homogeneity within political groups and stresses the importance of personal conversations to understand individual beliefs and experiences. Lindsey and John discuss the importance of listening well, referencing Francis Schaeffer's idea of spending most of a conversation listening rather than speaking. They agree that many conflicts could be diffused by prioritizing understanding over winning an argument. The conversation turns to practical applications of bridge-building apologetics. Lindsey advises against taking hostility personally, recognizing that others' anger may stem from past hurt or misunderstandings. She encourages Christians to stand firm in their faith while respecting others' perspectives and maintaining a heart of peace. The episode ends with a shared emphasis on prioritizing the gospel in all interactions. Lindsey and John agree on embodying Christian values in political discussions and everyday life, fostering a culture of understanding and respect. In summary, this episode delves into "bridge building apologetics," highlighting listening, respect, and genuine care as essential to overcoming divisions in today's polarized political and religious landscape. Lindsey Medenwalt and her co-hosts offer valuable insights and practical advice for maintaining meaningful connections amidst disagreements, always pointing back to the gospel. Our kids are increasingly on the front lines when it comes to the battle for a biblical view of sexuality. On the latest episode in our Unapologetic Hot Takes series, Julia invites Hillary Ferrer—founder of Mama Bear Apologetics—to the show to speak into the fight against transgenderism, how to train our kids up to stand firm, and why we as parents need to be the first ones to teach our kids about sexuality. These are hot-button topics in today's day and age, but they're issues we don't need to apologize for and can't shy away from if we want to win the battle for our kids' identities. Throughout their conversation Julia and Hillary dig into why some Christians seem to be confused about how to address transgenderism, the pressure to normalize behaviors that are clearly unbiblical, and how not to live by lies. Hillary wraps up the episode by encouraging moms and dads who are scared to raise kids in today's culture—reminding them that the only sphere of influence they're responsible for is their family, not controlling what everyone else believes. You can learn more about Mama Bear Apologetics and Hillary's work on their website or by following them on Instagram. Today we are posting an interview Lindsey Medenwaldt, Director of Ministry Operations at Mama Bear Apologetics. Her book is called Bridge-Building Apologetics. Lindsey also serves as a consulting editor for the Christian Research Journal; she holds a Master's in Apologetics and Ethics from Denver Seminary, a JD from St. Mary's School of Law and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Midwestern State University. "Mothers are a sleeping giant and when the giant awakens, take cover--things are going to change! I believe the giant is slowly stirring and beginning to wipe the sleep from its eyes." - excerpt from Your Girl by Vicki Courtney Over 15 years ago this quote stirred my soul to the point where I decided I wanted to be one of those mothers who stood up to make a difference and began a ministry for youth girls titled You-Nique Girls. God lit my soul on fire for those girls and I prayed for them and desired they know God in a real and personal way. It's still one of the reasons I do this podcast. Moms (and dads) can influence kids in such monumental ways, but we can't be afraid to take on the giant of cultural lies that invade almost every aspect of our children's lives. My guest today, Julie Loos, shares why she and Mama Bear Apologetics founder, Hillary Morgan Ferrar, share a passion for teaching moms how to equip their children to learn how to defend their faith. They saw the alarming statistics of the number of kids leaving their beliefs and wanted to take action. As Julie says in this interview, "There's a lot we can do as parents to help our kids be solid in their faith." In this episode Julie shares a wealth of information, starting with a simple definition of apologetics, weaving in her story of mistakes she made as a mom, defining the "chew and spit" method to help your kids discern what's right and wrong and ending with a plethora of resources to equip moms to learn how to teach their children how to stand up for their beliefs, including Julie and Hillary's newest book, Honest Prayers for Mama Bears. She even reads one of the powerful prayers in the book titled, Raising Dragon Slayers in an Era of Dragons that will inspire you to persevere in our post-Christian culture. This interview will give you so many practical tools to lead your kids, from preschool through college, to a stronger faith in our upside-down world. Happy Wednesday! Today Lindsey Medenwaldt is joining the podcast! This is the eleventh episode in a series dedicated to special co-host, Noelle. In this episode, host Janell Wood and guest Lindsey Medenwaldt discuss how to bridge the divide between Christians and non-Christians and have meaningful conversations. They explore the importance of building relationships, being good listeners, and sharing the gospel with love and respect. Lindsey shares insights from her book, 'Bridge Building Apologetics,' and emphasizes the need for Christians to be prepared to give a defense for their faith. They also address the question of why Christians make it their job to tell others about Jesus and the importance of knowing God through Scripture and prayer. Lindsey explains why prayer is a foundational aspect of bridge building apologetics. Prayer helps calm the mind, recall information, and seek guidance in conversations. She emphasizes the importance of active prayer life and being in constant conversation with God. Towards the end of the episode, Janell introduces the next co-host (hi Lizzy!) who will be joining the podcast for conversations soon. We hope you enjoy this week's episode!
