When Tom Knisely decided to buy his first item in an antique shop, he had two strokes of luck: the spinning wheel that he chose included all the parts needed to make yarn, and he lived not far from the landmark weaving store The Mannings. There, he learned to spin and eventually to weave. Enamored with the crafts, he got a job at the store there as a teenager and eventually built a career there over 37 years. That love of antiques led Tom to accumulate a collection of historic coverlets and rag rugs, along with knowledge about the old techniques used to make such durable textiles. Students often turn to Tom to learn such traditional skills as rag-rug weaving, working with linen from plant to fabric, and weaving with counterbalance looms. Through these antique rugs and coverlets, he traces the legacy of the weavers before him—those who pursued a life in weaving centuries ago. His nine books and ten videos explore contemporary and historic techniques, structures, and tools. As much as his knowledge, Tom's patience, enthusiasm, and warmth draw students to his classes. Named Handwoven Teacher of the Year, he loves helping students—from children who watch his living history demonstrations to dedicated weavers—develop their skills and love of spinning and weaving. His longest-lasting teaching relationship has been with Sara C. Bixler, one of his daughters, who took up the mantle to become a weaving teacher and designer herself. “I think we have an obligation to get out there and promote what we do,” he says. “You'd be surprised how much it means to other people to see this. But I guarantee you, you'll come home with stories that are far greater than what you have put out. It's a real reward.” Links Read about bumper looms in “Never Say Never” (Little Looms Spring 2025 (https://shop.longthreadmedia.com/products/easy-weaving-with-little-looms-spring-2025)) and “Never Say Never Again” (Little Looms Summer 2025 (https://shop.longthreadmedia.com/products/easy-weaving-with-little-looms-summer-2025). Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 2:1-8Alex frowned as he poured some cereal and looked out the window. Joanna never quits talking! he thought as he saw his sister coming up the driveway. I wish she'd leave me alone. He snapped his fingers. I know what'll fix her. I'll give her the silent treatment. So when Joanna came into the house, Alex retreated to his room. She banged on his door and called his name, but he put on some music and turned up the volume so he couldn't hear her, and Joanna finally gave up and walked away.A little while later, Joanna started to tell Alex something, but he covered his ears with both his hands and began to hum. I'll teach her, he thought. All morning he refused to hear anything she said.At lunchtime, Alex noticed that Joanna had put on her swimsuit. "Are you going somewhere, Joanna?" asked Dad.She nodded. "I'm going to Water World with the Mannings.""Sounds like fun," said Dad. He looked at Alex. "You're not going?""I wasn't invited," Alex answered crossly."You were too!" said Joanna. "I tried to tell you all morning, but you wouldn't listen. They had two extra tickets and invited both of us, but now they've given the last ticket to someone else.""Oh no!" wailed Alex as the Mannings' car turned into the driveway. That evening, Alex asked his parents for help with something for church. "My small group leader wants each of us to share some thoughts on prayer during our group time this week," he said. "But what should I say?""Well, let's see," said Dad. "Maybe you could talk about the importance of talking to God and listening to Him.""You could tell about how you missed out on a fun outing today by refusing to talk with your sister," suggested Mom. "Then explain that we all miss out on the blessing of communicating with God when we fail to talk to Him."Dad nodded. "God loves us and wants us to pray about all the things that matter to us. Jesus died and rose again so we could have a relationship with Him, and that means we can talk to God whenever we want!""Good idea," said Alex. "I'll tell the kids in my group not to give God the silent treatment." –Nance E. KeyesHow About You?Do you regularly talk to God? Do you tell Him what's going on in your life and ask Him for help with your problems? Or do you think it doesn't make any difference whether you pray or not? It does! God loves you so much that Jesus gave His life so you could have a relationship with Him. He wants to help you and bless you through the gift of prayer. Talk to Him about everything.Today's Key Verse:Pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. (NLT) (Philippians 4:6)Today's Key Thought:Talk to God

In 1849, George and Maria Manning murdered a guest in their London home and fled the British capital . A dramatic hunt for the killers ensued. After the law caught up with the Mannings, the glamorous Maria achieved near-celebrity status as she made her way through the justice system. A staggering thirty thousand spectators gathered to watch her and George's public execution, triggering a ferocious debate about the ethics of capital punishment. When renowned wax modeler Madame Tussaud unveiled a likeness of Maria in the Chamber of Horrors, a showroom in her wax museum that exhibited effigies of notorious criminals, Tussaud met with perhaps the fiercest criticism she had ever faced in her career.Show notes and full transcripts available at www.artofcrimepodcast.com. Hour 1 Boomer said the NFL Today will ask them for their Super Bowl picks on Sunday and Boomer wants to put the Jets in there. The Jets players seem to love to go to Broadway. The thing holding Gio back from thinking the Jets are a Super Bowl team is how cheesy Rob Saleh is as a head coach and motivational leader. Travis Kelce may be out Thursday night, but Patrick Mahomes will still have no problem throwing for 350 yards and a couple of TDs. Boomer thinks the Saints will win at least 12 games because of their schedule. Jerry is here for his first update and starts with Andy Reid telling us that Travis Kelce is injured. Jerry Jones is happy to wake up and is excited to play week one in ‘The Big Apple'. Aaron Rodgers told a UFO story on Hard Knocks last night. Giancarlo Stanton hit his 400th HR last night. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about UFO's and aliens. Gio wants to see a giant tornado in person. Gio wonders what our sick day policy is. If he's sick, should he come in and get everyone else sick? Hour 2 Boomer is locked in to getting all of the NFL information he can with the season kicking off tomorrow. Boomer is going through all the analytics and really likes Kenny Pickett and the Steelers this year. We went through the QBs ranked higher than Daniel Jones. Darren Waller is fired up to play the Cowboys in prime time week 1. Joe Douglas was on a podcast and talked about not wanting Hard Knocks to show guys getting cut. Giancarlo Stanton hit his 400th HR last night. In the final segment of the hour, video was released on the aftermath of a Delta plane after a passenger had explosive diarrhea in the aisle. Jerry returns for an update and updates us on Travis Kelce: it's a bone bruise. Chris McMonigle was yelling at a caller last night. Boomer wonders how much weight he will put on working overnights. Josh Allen is motivated for Monday night since Aaron Rodgers cheats at golf. Giancarlo Stanton hit his 400th HR last night. In the final segment of the hour, a man claims to have smoked crack with Obama. Gio wonders if Shaun Morash would claim something like that to get attention. Hour 4 ESPN put out a video of the Mannings pretending to interview people to be the third host. Gio did not find it funny at all. Boomer said that's part of the charm. Another video of Tom Brady came out and people were saying it looks like he had a lot of botox. We talked about current NFL players that are loved by all fans. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Daniel Jones talking about the lack of success against the Cowboys. Mike Tomlin talked about naming Kenny Pickett team captain. Jerry Jones talked about Deion Sanders' coaching performance this past weekend. Giancarlo Stanton hit his 400th HR last night. The Moment of The Day involves diarrhea on a Delta flight. In the final segment of the show, Boomer is predicting a Jets/Eagles Super Bowl. Boomer doesn't like the Jets going to Broadway plays too much. Gio used to like Broadway but that all stopped after watching Wicked.
