A bear was spotted in Joey’s neighborhood last week, so now he’s been on the lookout for one. This morning, he thought he saw a bear run away from a tractor trailer on the interstate. It wasn’t a bear... it was a tire from the truck that blew off. Nancy is helping her daughter Emma design her new apartment and told her where she should put her bed. Emma said she didn’t want it to be like that, so she asked ChatGPT to design the room for her. It did it just like Nancy suggested, and now Emma loves it. Hot Tea: Cody Johnson is getting some hate online for posting a photo of him posing with a grizzly bear he hunted in Alaska. Alan Jackson did a special performance on Memorial Day. A brawl broke out at a kindergarten graduation that resulted in an arrest and a woman with staples in her head. The new smoking ban has passed in the City of Knoxville, so soon it will be illegal to smoke in establishments that are 21+. We brought Motorcycle Jim to the studio to get his opinion on it. Lucky 7 for $50 to Farmacy Nancy gave a recap of her experience at the Savannah Banana’s game at Neyland Stadium. She said the sound quality was terrible and she couldn’t understand anything that was being said. She also gave some suggestions about how the field should be set up. Coach gives Tennessee Volunteers Post-Spring Practice and Defensive Overhaul Analysis

The Tennessee Volunteers football program is facing a crucial turning point as it enters the 2026 season, with a desperate need to reclaim their home-field advantage at Neyland Stadium. Reflecting on a disappointing 2025 campaign where the Vols dropped three of their four conference home games to Georgia, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas, the broadcast emphasized that defending home turf is the absolute key to success for Coach Josh Heupel’s squad. A massive culprit for these struggles was a porous defense that allowed over 38 points per game in conference play, completely undermining an explosive offense that consistently produced over 31 points per game. To rectify these defensive woes, the program has undergone a complete system overhaul under new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, who has hand-picked his staff to instill a fundamentally sound culture focused on tackling, leverage, and disciplined play. While the Vols only return six experienced starters on defense, a heavy influx of 14 transfer portal players—including several seniors from high-profile programs like Penn State, Michigan, and Auburn—has injected vital depth and experience into the roster. The breakdown of the defensive unit highlighted exceptional depth and talent at the linebacker and safety positions, a mature defensive line rotation, and an upgraded cornerback group, all positioning the Volunteers for significant defensive improvement in the upcoming fall season.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This episode of Big Orange Sunday Coach delivers a comprehensive post-spring look-in at the 2026 Tennessee Volunteers football program, emphasizing the critical need to re-establish a dominant home-field advantage at Neyland Stadium. The host provides an in-depth analysis of the team's massive defensive overhaul under new Defensive Coordinator Jim Knowles, who has hand-picked a mature, athletic staff and heavily utilized the transfer portal to build exceptional depth across the linebacking core, safeties, and cornerbacks. Conversely, the offensive preview highlights stability and staff continuity under Head Coach Josh Heupel. With a highly experienced returning starting core up front and on the perimeter, the offensive strategy relies on internal player development and a remarkably quiet transfer portal cycle, leaving the team’s ultimate success heavily invested in a talented but young quarterback room. Beyond current roster breakdowns, the broadcast features a deeply personal historical segment reflecting on the combined 32-year legacies of legendary Tennessee coaches Johnny Majors and Phillip Fulmer. Drawing from a decade of firsthand experience on the coaching staff under both men, the host dispels long-standing program myths regarding Majors' personal habits and the controversial nature of Fulmer's transition into the head coaching role. The episode concludes with a forward-looking evaluation of the modern college football landscape, discussing how Tennessee effectively manages its estimated $35 million to $40 million NIL and revenue-sharing resources. By balancing a traditional foundation of high school recruiting with calculated transfer portal additions, the program continues to navigate an evolving era of roster construction.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode of Big Orange Sunday, host Coach Doug Mathews takes listeners into "Realville" to analyze the shifting landscape of University of Tennessee football following the conclusion of spring practice. Mathews details the impact of the new 105-scholarship limit and predicts that the transfer portal will likely lead to an annual roster turnover of approximately 40%. He notes that the 2026 squad currently features only 18 players in their final year of eligibility, while the program is simultaneously breaking records by offering 18 in-state high school prospects for the 2027 recruiting class. The discussion also looks ahead to a favorable 2026 home schedule that includes high-stakes matchups against Alabama, Florida, and LSU at Neyland Stadium. The episode continues with veteran journalist Jimmy Hyams, who provides a comprehensive update on the success of Tennessee’s spring sports. They celebrate a historic milestone for the Lady Vols golf team, which captured its first-ever SEC Championship after entering the tournament as an underdog. Hyams also recaps the 2026 NFL Draft, highlighting the five Volunteers selected—including Jermod McCoy to the Raiders and Colton Hood—as part of a record-breaking year that saw 87 SEC players drafted. Finally, the segment touches on the diamond sports’ performance against Alabama and the basketball program's roster adjustments following Nate Ament's NBA Draft declaration.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

RUNDOWN   Time for a post-Thanksgiving catch-up — from Hotshot's massive Bonnie Lake feast (and industrial-sized leftovers) to Mitch explaining why he avoids other people's stuffing, small talk, and social gatherings altogether. The guys 'roll' into a playful celebration of area code 360, spotlighting surprising celebrity ties: Sam Elliott's Clark College days, Hilary Swank's Bellingham childhood, The Rock's Vancouver roots, and of course Kurt Cobain — whose Aberdeen home, schools, and legacy still anchor the region. Mitch and Hotshot mourn Washington's deflating rivalry loss to Oregon, wondering what's happened to Damon Williams over the last few weeks and whether Jed Fisch's 8–4 season is real progress or just a tiny baby step. They pivot to the Seahawks' 26–0 shutout of a completely overmatched Vikings team led by one-and-done starter Max Broer, raising fresh concerns about Sam Darnold, a sputtering passing game, and what—if anything—you can actually learn from a win like that. Mitch then slips into full "Mr. Playoffs" mode, mapping out the Rams–Seahawks tiebreaker hell. Brady and Jacson join Mitch to break down Seattle's emphatic 26–0 shutout of Minnesota — the team's first since 2015 — powered by five takeaways, four sacks, and total defensive domination of an undrafted rookie QB. While the win keeps Seattle tied atop the NFC West, all three acknowledge the troubling offensive trend. The crew debates whether this defense — with Ernest Jones ascending, DeMarcus Lawrence wrecking pockets, Reek Woolen surging, and reinforcements like Julian Love near return — is good enough to carry a sputtering offense deep into January. Rick joins Mitch to dissect Washington's season-ending loss to Oregon — highlighting Damon Williams' late-year regression, disorganized reads, and off-timed footwork, while crediting Dante Moore for outplaying him in a game UW needed. They walk through the wild coaching carousel (Lane Kiffin to LSU? Will Ole Miss even let him coach the playoff?) and unravel the tangled playoff math: whether the Ohio State–Indiana loser still deserves a bye, how an Alabama loss would knock them out, and why Texas Tech's "purchased darlings" have a real shot to win it all.   GUESTS   Brady Henderson | Seahawks Insider, ESPN Jacson Bevens | Writer, Cigar Thoughts Rick Neuheisel | CBS College Football Analyst, Former Head Coach & Rose Bowl Champion   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Thanksgiving Leftovers, the 360 Area Code Deep Dive, and a Tour Through Kurt Cobain's Aberdeen Roots 10:57 | BEAT THE BOYS - Register at MitchUnfiltered.com 15:22 | Ducks Roll the Dawgs, Damon Williams Stalls, and the Seahawks Cruise While Playoff Math Gets Messy 35:39 | GUEST: Seahawks No-Table; Seahawks Blank Vikings 26–0, Rise to 9–3, and Spark Big Questions About Darnold, Pressure, and JSN Dependency 1:01:46 | GUEST: Rick Neuheisel; Neuheisel Breaks Down Oregon–UW, Lane Kiffin Chaos, and the High-Stakes Math of the New 12-Team Playoff 1:32:26 | Other Stuff Segment: three-six-oh shoutout to Ben Gibbard and Death Cab for Cutie in Bremerton, Huskies bowl projections (LA Bowl vs Boise State/UNLV, Sun Bowl vs SMU, or Holiday Bowl vs Pitt in San Diego), Lane Kiffin bolts Ole Miss for LSU and gets cussed out at the airport while Ole Miss fans also blame Pete Carroll and even God for "telling him to go," Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia's brother Javier arrested again for public intoxication at Neyland Stadium, Jim Mora Jr leaves UConn for Colorado State and we revisit his infamous Hugh Millen "I'd leave in a second for UW" comment and his brutal Olindo Mare kicker rant, Carmel-by-the-Sea banning pickleball at public courts over nonstop paddle pop noise, Lions' Thanksgiving halftime show with Jack White bringing out Eminem for a Detroit super-collab, ozempic "perk" for men where losing weight makes everything look bigger downstairs, Paul Anka's new doc and his stories about Frank Sinatra's and Milton Berle's legendary endowments, Italy's "Mrs. Doubtfire" scam where a son dressed as his dead mom for years to steal her pension, Richard Simmons' Hollywood Hills house getting a big price cut on the market, RIPs: Fuzzy Zoeller – Masters and U.S. Open champion – dead at 74, HEADLINEs: France's far-right leader gets egged and floured like a human baguette, Brain scan reportedly shows Kim Kardashian has "low activity" upstairs, Trump supposedly slaps a "No fat chicks" sign outside the Oval Office, Thieves steal $90K worth of gourmet snails and instantly become the true escar-goats

The Vols saw their College Football Playoff chances snuffed out with three games to go as Josh Heupel's team lost to Josh Heupel's alma mater. Tennessee could have been out of sight early, but a slew of mistakes on offense squandered multiple opportunities for early scores and separation on the scoreboard. A missed field goal and three turnovers represented a huge swing as the Sooners led at the break despite the Dark Mode having big advantages in yards, plays run, first downs and third-down conversions. Then the offense, defense and special teams took turns letting Tennessee down in the second half as Oklahoma took the lead in the third quarter and held off some late attempts at a rally with a fourth-down stop on a dropped pass looming large against the Vols. GoVols247's Patrick Brown and Ryan Callahan preview Tennessee's crunch matchup with Oklahoma at Neyland Stadium on Saturday night. First we recap the first SEC availability report with the latest injury updates on Colton Hood, Arion Carter and Jermod McCoy. Then we discuss the state of Tennessee's defense and why the Vols have regressed so far this season? We look at the numbers that have dropped off from last season and try to pinpoint a reason why Tennessee has struggled. Can the defense be fixed in-season? Next, we looked at the matchup with the Sooners, who have lost two of their past three games. Oklahoma is led by an elite defense, but one that gave up a lot of yards and points to Ole Miss last week. And what do we make of QB John Mateer's recent struggles? Finally we touched on some Tennessee recruiting news, including a recent decommitment and the visitors to know on a big recruiting weekend. Oh Brian, you human stain. Glad to see you go Mr. Kelly but going to miss hate watching you each week on the sidelines. Vandy this, Vandy that. All we do is talk about Vandy football. No, but seriously they're good. And, on their way to Austin to face off against the Horns. With or without Archy boy. Texas' rival OU heads over to Neyland Stadium to face the Vols in a pivotal game for both teams. Is Mateer even remotely healthy? Speaking of healthy, hopefully Chandler Morris is, because…we're scared. Cal is decent and this game is all the way over in Berkley bro. The Bearcats head to Salt Lake for an evening tilt against the Utes. Yellow Jackets, Wolfpacks, Bulldogs, and Gators oh my! The Chiefs are favored on the road in Buffalo? What does Vegas know that we don't?? Are the Commanders in free fall mode, or can Jaylen save their season against the Hawks? Will the Colts go 16-1?? It’s National Boss’s Day and our coworker gave us a card to sign for our boss. The first person to sign it wrote a paragraph, and we all feel like we have to follow suit. Joey doesn’t want to do that. Kim Kardashian spoke about her relationship with Kanye on the Call Her Daddy Podcast. She said that he once gave away their 5 Lamborghini cars. Joey had an unexpected fishing buddy at the park last night. A guy started fishing near him and they talked a bit. Joey then had the guy help him take each fish he caught off the hook. Joey and Nancy tested Karly on her knowledge of items from the items. She looked at pictures of items and had to guess what they were. Hot Tea: Ella Langley’s new song's cover art seems to be taking a jab at Riley Green and Megan Moroney. Eric Church dedicated a song to his wife during a show, and she was not happy. A guy in California was pulled over for driving with a hand drawn license plate on the car. We gave away a “Lainey’s Night Out” package that includes tickets to the show, a gift card to Gilly’s Western Work, and hair and makeup from TN School of Beauty on the show day. Karly had Joey email one of Taylor Swift’s managers to ask about us interviewing her. The manager called Joey and was very nice, but declined the interview. We are sad, but glad we tried! Lucky 7 Nancy’s son played football and their team lost by a ton. She was making fun of a dad who stayed optimistic until the end even though they were losing. Then she quickly changed it up and said she thought it was great that he was so supportive. We played Rocky Top Roulette to give away tickets to Luke Combs’ show at Neyland Stadium!
