It's This Week in X for 23 June, 2021 - the third week of The Hellfire Gala - plus EVEN MORE X-comics! Join Peter, Fariha, & Tyler as we discuss SWORD (2021) #6 (and Guardians of the Galaxy #15), Wolverine (2020) #13, Way of X (2021) #3, X-Men Legends (2021) #4, and highlights from Marvel Voices Pride. (Wolverine technically comes first, but because it was a briefer discussion we held it between the two more heavy-hitting issues.) In SWORD #6, we explore the intergalactic implications of the Hellfire Gala fireworks as we talk currency, coronations, terrific Captain America monologues, sneakily deleted scenes published in other comics, and the biggest shock of the Gala so far! For Wolverine #13, we debate if a comic that's 30% Logan really ought to be released under his name, and dig into Krakoa's first big "L" when it comes to Terra Verde. Way of X #3 is a heavy one, as we divide in love, frustration, and boredom and unpack our feelings by discussing Nightcrawler's ethics, making more mutants, sex positivity, and so much more. Then, we briefly buy/skip on X-Men Legends #4, and summarize the stories X-fans will care about the most in Marvel Voices Pride. Spoiler warning - we discuss everything about X-Men up to and including comics from this week, as well as other current events in the Marvel Universe.

Happy Friday! This Friday episode starts with the usual weekly comic book pick list, and boy did we have some great picks! I mostly discuss Homesick Pilot #6, Harley Quinn #4, and Batman: Reptilian #1, but also touch on Silk, Captain Marvel, Marvel Voices Pride, and some others! After the picks, we go straight into this week's third episode of Loki. It was a very different watching experience than the previous two, and not necessarily in good ways. But we did learn some integral information about the TVA and our cast of characters, and I discuss all the speculation as well! After a brief mention of Superman and Lois, I discuss the new trailers for The Suicide Squad and Shang Chi! I'm excited for both movies, for totally different reasons. And since Shang-Chi has such an involved world it's tying into, there are a lot of Easter eggs to be on the lookout for! Finally, this week's podcasts wrap up with the news of a new era for the Amazing Spider-Man, complete with some major switch-ups, including the return of Ben Reilly! There's a whole new set of creatives on these new projects, so if you're a fan of Spider-Man, you'll want to stay in the loop! I'll be back for a new episode this coming Monday, June 28th, where I'll discuss the coming week's comic book pull list, tonight's episode of the Bad Batch, and whatever other news or speculation rears it's head between now and then! In the meantime, stay cool this hot summer; hydrate, hippies; practice empathy; get sweaty about comics! After the epic first trial of Magneto, where we covered all of Magneto's pre-history, this week we use the standard trial format and prosecute Magneto for all of his pre-Claremont appearances, in the 1960s and early 1970s! Back then, Magneto was out to protect mutants, but he did so by taking over countries, abusing subservients, creating races of mutants to serve him, and ranting and raving. Despite all of that, given his backstory, he remains incredibly sympathetic and compelling. Hear our esteemed jury have a wonderful and thought-provoking discussion on Magneto. Including Noelle Reed (of X-Men Unraveled), Justin Wilder (of the X-Wife Podcast), Tristan Palmgren (of Aconyte Books), Hussein Rashid (of Ms. Marvel's America), and Anthony Oliveira (of Marvel Voices: Pride!)
