Welcome to The For Your Ears Only Podcast, and today is a very special episode. Not only for the fact that it is our first of 2024 but it is also our very first guest on the show, and who better than Mr Matthew Bauer. Matthew Bauer is a director and producer of numerous short movies and feature length films. His latest work is called 'The Other Fellow' a documentary focusing around real people with the name James Bond and how this seemingly 'flat' name as in fact has great impact on their lives both positively and negatively. In todays episode we chat to Matt about how he got into the film business, specific questions about how the documentary was made, and a few light hearted questions at the end for his opinion. As described in the episode, The Other Fellow is not just a documentary for Bond fans and it is a work that can be enjoyed by anyone - even someone who has never seen any of the Bond movies but will of course know all about the famous spy through Pop Culture. Please to find the documentary and found below: ITVX: https://www.itv.com/watch/the-other-fellow/10a4672 Amazon Prime: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Other-Fellow-Gunnar-James-Sch%C3%A4fer/dp/B0BX2KQBBZ

We were delighted to welcome Matthew Bauer on the podcast to discuss the evidence base of acupuncture for peripheral neuropathy. Also don't miss Matthew's summary of the most important research ever done on acupuncture!Matthew Bauer became interested in Chinese Medicine after becoming a student of a 74th generation Taoist Master and traditional Chinese Doctor in 1978. He became licensed as an Acupuncturist in 1986 and opened his Chinese Medicine practice in California that same year. Matthew developed a passion for educating people about the benefits of acupuncture and became active in acupuncture/Chinese medicine organizations thinking those organizations would have public outreach as a primary goal. When that proved not to be the case, Matthew authored a book for the public exploring the roots and practice of acupuncture titled “The Healing Power of Acupressure and Acupuncture”. He later authored another book for acupuncturists on practice building titled “Making Acupuncture Pay”. In 2014, while still in full time practice seeing around 20 patients a day, Matthew formed the Acupuncture Now Foundation (the ANF) – a for the public benefit charitable organization with the goal of educating the public, healthcare providers, and health policymakers about the practice of acupuncture. Matthew feels the ANF vision statement sums up his goals best – “Creating a world where the benefits of acupuncture are known and available to all.” As part of that vision, Matthew became interested in acupuncture research especially the potential for false negatives due to studies using sub-optimal treatment dosages. Matthew has a particular interest in acupuncture dosage and recently co-authored a journal article on the subject “Is Acupuncture Dose Dependent - Ramifications of acupuncture treatment dose within clinical practice and trials”.Get in TouchLearn Matthew's Peripheral Neuropathy ProtocolLonghurst research on acupuncture for blood pressure

We are so happy Peter Matthew Bauer fell into our lap. The former founding bassist and organist for the iconic indie rock band, The Walkmen, who also moonlights as a producer and manager of other cool bands, just released his third solo LP, Flowers. We talk about this fantastic album over a stem cell hanger steak, also discussing LA, his dog Maggie, and a bunch of silly shit.
Peter Matthew Bauer - "Skulls" from the 2022 album Flowers on Fortune Tellers. With The Walkmen still on hiatus, multi-instrumentalist Peter Matthew Bauer continues their anthemic style of indie rock on his latest solo LP, Flowers. On today's Song of the Day, he displays the ways he's developed musically since the band took a break. "'Skulls' was inspired by a new style of guitar playing that I stumbled on," he told Under the Radar. "In all the years I'd made music, I'd never figured out a way to take a guitar solo before. I started using a distortion pedal and a space echo, playing these kind of waterfalling guitar riffs over some farfisa chords. It felt really loose and brought me a lot of joy. From there, I tried to write a very joyous melody to match it. There's a record by Peter One and Jess Sah Bi, it's a kind of 1980s country rock record from the Cote d'Ivoire. I feel like their style of melodies really inspired me throughout this album. Just the rhythm and the way they're both laid back but really letting go." Treaty Oak Distillery: Where flavor meets familyWhat does a Cambridge University graduate, an Israeli Special Forces veteran, two U.S. Army vets and an engineer have in common? They help make up the team we met at Treaty Oak Distillery in Dripping Springs, Texas. Treaty Oak’s name goes back more than 500 years after the famous tree in Austin, under which Stephen F. Austin signed agreements defining the borders of Texas. The fourth oldest distillery in the Lone Star State, the whiskey they create is Texas through and through.“We kiss the vats everyday and that’s what makes it so special. It’s all done with love. This is a taste of Texas that bigger operations don’t have,” Alice Barnes, the Founder’s mother and matriarch to the staff, told us on our visit. The Ghost Hill Bourbon, which will feature in RackHouse Whiskey Club’s Christmas box, is sourced and distilled in Texas. Available in very few states, it’s a blend of three two-to-five-year-old barrels. A second bottle of Red Handed Bourbon will also be in the box. Support the show (http://www.RackHouseWhiskeyClub.com)

On today's show I talk to musician Peter Matthew Bauer. Partly raised on ashrams in India and the Catskills, Peter mostly grew up in Washington DC. It was there he met his future bandmates in The Walkmen, and he even had a high school band with lead singer Hamilton Leithauser. From 1996 to 1999, Peter and Hamilton played in The Recoys together, and in 2000, The Walkmen formed from the ashes of The Recoys and Jonathan Fire*Eater. After putting out seven albums, the band is currently on an "extended hiatus". This gave Peter the opportunity to record his own album - Liberation! - and tour behind it. I really love it, and it's available now!Check out the website for Beginnings, subscribe on iTunes, follow me on Twitter, and check out my new gameshow podcast Snap Impression!
