We continue our study of the Judgment Seat of Christ, where believers' works are assessed for eternal rewards. Learn about the 5 types of crowns - the incorruptible crown, the crown of rejoicing, the crown of righteousness, the crown of life, and the crown of glory. Pastor Derek emphasises the importance of living a life of faith, obedience, and faithful service, ensuring believers are prepared to receive their heavenly rewards. *1. The INCORRUPTIBLE CROWN (1Corinthians 9:24-27, 1Timothy 2:5) for walking in the Spirit and not following after the flesh, for exercising self-control and denying yourself in this life, in order to live a Spirit-filled life, for living in victory over the sin nature. This crown goes to the man who puts God first, rather than the corruptible things of this life. *2. The CROWN of REJOICING (1Thessalonians 2:19, Philippians 4:1) consists of all the people we have shared the Gospel with, won to the Lord, and discipled (John 4:36). One of the greatest rewards and eternal sources of joy will be all the PEOPLE in HEAVEN, who we will have reached with our witness, discipling, giving and praying. We will see the eternal fruit of our labours in transformed people. This Crown will be given to all who fulfil the Great Commission. That's why it is also called the SOULWINNER'S CROWN. *3. The CROWN of RIGHTEOUSNESS (2Timothy 4:7-8, Philippians 3:9-14). *4. The CROWN of LIFE (James 1:12, Revelation 2:10) for overcoming tests and trials. *5. The CROWN of GLORY (1Peter 5:1-4) for exercising faithful leadership.

Trials, temptation, faith and works, speech, worldliness, wealth, endurance, prayer--this is the stuff we all face every day. In fact, you could say James is a book about everyday Christianity.

He has built and sold companies for millions, lived the life of the elite, and then—through a series of "stupid" decisions and a warped psychology of money—watched it all evaporate. In this episode, James sits down with Jessica Neal for a masterclass on the human ego. He takes us back to the "least respected" basement office at HBO, where he was just an IT guy with a secret dream of making TV, and explains how he accidentally stumbled into a $50 million fortune. But the real story is what happened next.James opens up about the "sickness" that strikes when you reach the top—the belief that if you aren't making $100 million, you're failing. He reveals the visceral shame of lying to business partners while his house was being foreclosed on, the depression that followed, and the radical "Four Bodies" framework he used to crawl back to the light. This isn't just about money; it's about the "blood flow" of creativity, the danger of being a salesperson who is too easily sold, and the 1% compounding rule that can change your life in 20 days.If you feel like you're treading water, or if you've achieved success only to feel more anxious than ever, this conversation is for you.In this episode, we cover:00:00 The HBO basement: Where it all started.05:12 Having $50M and losing it all: The psychological "sickness."12:45 The "Four Bodies" Framework: Physical, Emotional, Creative, Spiritual.18:20 Why you must write 10 bad ideas every single day.25:30 Being a "Human Lie Detector": Detecting BS in the startup world.33:15 The future of Humanoid Robots and the next trillion-dollar shift.42:10 Why "Freedom" is often scarier than "Failure."

Many high performers blame stress or burnout for feeling off when the real drain on their sleep focus and relationships is hiding in plain sight inside their nightly drinking habits and the broader lifestyle choices tied to alcohol.   James Swanwick joins Dr. Andrew Fix to question the belief that alcohol only becomes an issue at the extreme. He reflects on years of socially acceptable drinking that slowly eroded his energy clarity and presence until the cost could no longer be ignored and a lasting shift felt necessary.   The conversation explores what alcohol does beneath the surface, starting with sleep and rippling into mood focus cravings and connection at home. When recovery suffers everything else follows. How often do we point to work pressure or discipline when the issue starts the night before? What changes when rest, clarity and patience return?   Rather than prescribing rigid rules Swanwick encourages awareness, experimentation and choice. Track the data. Notice the patterns. Pay attention to how you show up with the people who matter most. This episode invites listeners to stop normalizing feeling less than their best and to consider what becomes possible when alcohol no longer compromises daily life.   Quotes “Drinking is just attractively packaged poison.” (15:05 | James Swanwick) “You've just clocked out of a day's work from your job, the moment that you put your head on the pillow, you've just clocked in for a whole night's additional work, the moment that you chose to drink that red wine or that beer or that seemingly innocent gin and tonic or vodka at the end of the night.”  (19:08 | James Swanwick) “We're positioning alcohol as the fun and the reward, and not drinking alcohol is the pain and the suffering. It's ridiculous. It should be the other way around.” (28:17 | James Swanwick) “If you could have reduced or quit alcohol on your own, you would have. You haven't, so you probably can't. So try a different way.” (54:46 | James Swanwick) “I've had a life with alcohol and a life without and without as far superior.” (58:00 | James Swanwick) Connect with James Swanwick: Visit Alcohol-Free Lifestyle CLEAR by James Swanwick   James Bio James Swanwick is an Australian-American investor, entrepreneur, and speaker, and a former SportsCenter anchor on ESPN. Today’s Bible Verse:“Is anyone among you in trouble? Let him pray. Is anyone happy? When joy rises up, praise becomes our natural response. This simple rhythm shapes a life that stays rooted in God no matter the season. It reminds us that we’re never meant to navigate sorrow alone and never meant to enjoy blessings without gratitude. In every circumstance, God welcomes us to turn toward Him. “Want to listen without ads? Firstly I would like to thank my friend and podcast sponsor Shaun Sargent of STAIT FOR MEN for making this amazing episode happen. This week, I had the honor of speaking with Mike Bates- Former MOD Covert Operations Leader, Commando & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt turned solo ocean rower, community builder and entrepreneur. There's no-one in the world with Mike's experience.Mike brings exceptional credibility: he served two decades in the UK's Royal Marines and the Ministry of Defence, rising to become a human-intelligence specialist and covert counter-terrorism operations leader ( AKA James Bond, and leading other Bond teams) and was the first officer in the MOD to pass all the required front-line counter-terror courses.Following that elite career, he turned ultra-endurance athlete, completing the 3,000-mile solo row across the Atlantic in just 46 days 6 hours 10 minutes — the fastest Briton and first solo finisher of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. He now co-founds and leads the mission-driven community Unify Men (and its predecessor brand NXT45) focused on men's health, connection, and transformation. His core insight is powerful:The ultimate act of courage for a man is vulnerability.
Strength isn't proven by suppressing emotion — it's shown in connection, authenticity, and the bravery to face one's own trauma. Mike's lived experience (in covert ops, ultra-endurance rowing, and men's transformation) underpins that insight. Through immersing men in nature, building safe circles, practicing martial arts (like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), and emphasising fundamentals such as sleep and relinquishing ego, he provides a roadmap for modern masculinity.Today, Mike's work with Unify Men gives fathers and men a tribe, creates spaces where men can share truth without shame, and champions that the smartest fight is the one you don't take. He emphasises: prioritise sleep, step outside (into nature), get comfortable with vulnerability, de-escalate ego, and start telling the truth about what you feel.Bottom line:

“How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” (James 4:14 NLT) It’s been said that inside every old person is a young person wondering what in the world just happened. Life is a fast-moving ride. And if you’re not aware of just how quickly it moves, there’s a lot you might miss. The Bible makes the same point in much more eloquent terms. In Job 9:25–26, Job says, “My life passes more swiftly than a runner. It flees away without a glimpse of happiness. It disappears like a swift papyrus boat, like an eagle swooping down on its prey” (NLT). And David says in Psalm 39:4–7, “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered—how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath. We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it. And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you” (NLT). We’re all rushing headlong to what lies beyond this life. And that’s a scary thought to some. Actor William Shatner, of Star Trek fame, once said, “I’m so not ready to die. It petrifies me. I go alone. I go to a place I don’t know. It might be painful. It might be the end. My thought is that it’s the end. I become nameless, and I spent a lifetime being known.” Someone needs to tell William Shatner that there’s a God in Heaven who loves him, and that he can know where he’s going after he dies. He can go to Heaven if he puts his faith in Jesus Christ, and he can live long and prosper. In the meantime, we must make the most of our brief stay in this world. In the passage above, James asks, “How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow?” What he’s really asking is, “What kind of life are you living? What are you doing with this precious gift called life right now?” If you want to get more specific, you could change the question to “What are you doing with the precious gift of your marriage?” Or with your family or other loved ones. Time is passing quickly for them, too. One of the best strategies for living life well is found in Proverbs 3:6: “Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” God knows every possible path that’s laid out before you. He knows where each decision will take you. He knows the routes that will lead to fulfillment, joy, growth, and maturity. And He knows the dead-ends. If you trust in Him and ask Him to guide you according to His will, He will help you make the most of your brief time in this world. Life is short. Live it well. — Listen to the Greg Laurie Podcast Become a Harvest PartnerSupport the show: https://harvest.org/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
