John Horvick is one of the top pollsters in Oregon. In this episode, John provides expert analysis to help explain the results of the election—and the implications for Oregon's future. We talk about why the red wave didn't hit Oregon, how national factors impacted Oregon results, the importance of candidate quality, and bright spots for both parties. We cover the governor's race, congressional races, the legislature, and what the results from Portland mean about how voters are feeling. JT Sports gives his College Football Week 8 reactions. Clemson barely escaped the hands of defeat against Syracuse beating the Orange 27-21. Clemson had 4 turnovers including one fumble in the red zone which Syracuse recovered and returned 90 yards for a touchdown. Clemson also benched quarterback DJ Uiagalelei in favor of true freshman Cade Klubnick, but what won the game for the Tigers was Will Shipley's career performance rushing for 172 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Tiger's defense also came up big in the 2nd half forcing the Syracuse offense to punt on all their offensive possessions in the 2nd half helping Clemson get the win. The LSU Tigers beat Ole Miss 45-20 at home, improving to 6-2. With this win, LSU goes into their bye week tied for first place in the SEC West. LSU after trailing 17-3 early in the second quarter, would end the game outscoring Ole Miss 42-3. Ole Miss suffers their first loss of the season and their passing game has still been heavily inconsistent. Can the Ole Miss rushing attack carry the Rebels to another 10-win season? Or will this loss be the first of more to come for Ole Miss Football? Oregon vs UCLA was one of the biggest games on the College Football week 8 slate. Oregon beat UCLA 45-30 led by quarterback Bo Nix who threw 5 touchdowns and no interceptions. The Oregon Ducks' offense was on fire the whole game scoring 6 touchdowns in their 8 offensive possessions. Is Oregon starting to play like College Football Playoff contenders? How will the UCLA Bruins respond to their first loss of the season? Is UCLA football still a good team? Can UCLA still make the PAC-12 Championship? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jtsports/support

The “What ever happen to… ?” I've been asked the most over the years is about Teresa Richardson. The Oregon native got to KGW just a few months after me, starting as a weekend weather forecaster, we shared the “News8 at Sunrise” desk together with Nancy Francis, and TR went on to host KGW's PM Magazine/Good Evening for ten years. Then we lost touch. But she never lost her touch—she's worked around the west, and has been around the world. She tells a wonderful story of how she met her husband and joined a family of 20+. Her legacy of being Miss Oregon in the early 80s is an interesting exploration of how our culture and her life has changed dramatically. But she looks and sounds the same as the day we met in 1983. Life's New Normal Podcast with Host Long Jump Silver Medalist John Register
Some people call her a beauty queen. We call her a scholar. This is the slogan of the Miss America pageant for the state of Colorado. Shannon Patilla (2016 Miss Colorado) and Patricia Regan Leines-Pike (1997 Miss Oregon) discuss their experiences and why these pageants are important. If you are like me and think that all pageants are the same, well, you are going to be schooled just as I. I was a judge at this year’s pageant and did I have a lot to learn. First of all I thought all pageants were the same. To be honest I thought a bit superficial. But when I heard these young women in their interviews give some amazing answers coupled with actions steps of what they would like to do as well as shared what they are currently doing on a variety of topics, my mindset changed. The state of Colorado and the nation for that matter are in great hands with these brilliant young women. From science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to post traumatic stress disorder and from suicide awareness to emergency first responders, these women are getting it done. --- John Register, Paralympic Long Jump Silver Medalist | Inspirational Catalyst | Change Management Speaker | Author | Long Jump Record Holder | Gulf War Vet | Disability Rights Advocate | and 2 x TEDx Speaker. He shows business leaders how to hurdle adversity and create the new normal to increase bottom line performance.
