The Spirit of the Mountains, of nature, of life shines in every heart. Brought to life as Entrepreneurial Spirit. Then, with this connection, there can be no stress, no chaos, no calamity in a heart that is connected, once and for all, to nature. The love of nature is not just limited to plants, mountains and animals. It is a human quality. It exists in community, friendships, family, relationships and leadership. Once you are bound to nature and can bring her into your life as the organising principle you will find the awakening that truly gifts you with something beyond ... something only a few experience, something religion cannot corrupt. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/chris-walker70/message

Margo is joined by the multi-passionate maker and designer, Leah Quinn. Self employed for 20+ years, Leah started as a web designer and event photographer and prior to that worked as a landscape & interior designer for both commercial and residential properties. Now, after moving from New York to slow rural village life in Southern Vermont, she is remodeling an 1865 Victorian Farmhouse with her own designs. Leah's first memories of surface pattern design fascination came when she was five and she knew at that time she was to be an artist. As her journey continued she eventually discovered Make It in Design courses with Rachael Taylor that would finally allow her to dive into learning all about surface design. When she saw that her creative maker's business was at a challenging stage of scaling and growing, she knew she had to create a life that supported what she could and wanted to do in the future. Margo and Leah discuss: Her winding journey that has included creative outlets such as music, interior design, web design, apothecary products, and more How she scaled her apothecary business Saying yes to your own interests and listening to your intuition Quieting the noise How courses changed her business Challenges and lessons she learned from scaling Her motivators to create every day And more Connect with Leah: www.LeahQuinn.com www.Instagram.com/leahquinndesign www.HeartandSoulApothecary.com
Happy Tuesday! Season 2 is coming to an end but we are so excited to that our final guest episode is with the beautiful Annie Everingham! Annie Everingham is an Australian visual artist and creative. Her intuitive, feminine and colour driven practice combines a love of design, fashion, photography and pattern to encapsulate the elements of beauty found in everyday life across a range of mediums. A self taught artist, Annie's practice developed during her studies in fashion and textile design, originally exploring feminine textures, brushstrokes and floral compositions through hand painting and digital printing onto fabric. She primarily works with acrylic on canvas and moves between abstract, semi-abstract and still life subjects within her signature palette of pastel and earth tones. Establishing her own studio based business in 2014, Annie is now a full time artist and creative freelancer based in Newcastle, Australia. Her original artworks are currently sold and exhibited through Australian retailers Fenton & Fenton (VIC) and Jumbled (NSW) as well as other selected partners such as Merci Maison and local stockist House Of Lita. Alongside her visual art practice, Annie enjoys engaging in collaborative projects with designers and businesses across a range of creative industries, including fashion, interiors & textiles. Annie shares with us what she does and how she got there, all the way back from being a kid that loved drawing to studying fashion at university, she discusses her style and creative process and tells us about the many times she has followed her intuition in business and life @annieeveringham https://www.annieeveringham.com/ @cassdellerdesign @samanthalaurence_ @reverlustdesign www.facebook.com/groups/acreativelifepodcastcollective

Margaret Howell has been designing men's and womenswear for five decades, prioritising understated quality over trends: she makes beautiful clothes that work well. Fifty years after she started to design and sell clothes from her home in Blackheath, South London, there are now 80 Margaret Howell stores across the globe, from Paris to Tokyo, and she has been appointed a CBE for services to the retail industry. Margaret has been inspired by the natural world since childhood, citing the impact of growing up in a family that gardened and her fathers' workwear as influences on her work. I love Margaret's aesthetic, from her stores to her shirts, and was intrigued to see how this approach translated to her garden. So in this episode we visit Margaret at her home - still in Blackheath - to talk about how and why she grows. On a late spring afternoon we are immersed in the green haven that is her back garden, where Margaret works with nature, rather than against it. This podcast is inspired by my book, Why Women Grow: Stories of Soil, Sisterhood and Survival, which is out on March 2nd and available to pre-order now. The Why Women Grow podcast is produced by Holly Fisher, and theme music is by Maria Chiara Argiro. Thank you to our partners at Seedlip. We've also been photographing our guests and their gardens and you can see the beautiful images captured by Siobhan Watts on my instagram account @noughticulture.

Today I sit down with Susan Scott, counselor, leadership coach, author, and founder of Life Inspired, Inc., a company that provides life design and coaching for leaders and life coaches. Our topic today is resilience. As I discuss in the 12WY for Writers, resilience is a critical element of the writer's mindset. Every writer - no matter the type or genre, has to deal with rejections, criticism, false starts, and negative reviews that all writers. Without resilience - an ability to confront the tough parts and keep going - it's hard to imagine making a go of things as a writer. But it's far easier to tell folks to “be resilient” than to understand exactly what that means. In our conversation today, Susan explains what resilience really is and outlines a set of steps we can all use to build greater resilience.
