Ohjelman juontaa Nicklas Wancke.

Last year, Babsi Zangerl did something no one has ever done before—she flashed a route on El Capitan. Thousands of feet of hard climbing with no falls. Her partner, Jacopo Larcher, came really close, taking just one fall during their ascent of Freerider.  Zangerl has been a climber for over two decades, since she was a teenager at a climbing gym in Austria. But what, and how, she climbs has evolved over that time—she spent her early years as a professional boulderer.  Zangerl first visited Yosemite fifteen years ago with her friend Hansjörg Auer. She was getting more serious about ropes after sustaining a serious back injury while bouldering. Since that first trip in 2010, Zangerl has returned with Larcher to free climb many of the valley's classic routes, including Zodiac, Magic Mushroom and the Nose. In 2018 the pair climbed the North Face of the Eiger. In 2022 they freed Eternal Flame on Pakistan's Nameless Tower, a trip Larcher wrote about in Alpinist 82. And their list of accomplishments just keeps growing.  In this episode, Zangerl talks about the beginnings of her climbing career in Austria, her partnership with Larcher, learning the ropes from Hansjörg Auer and much more.  This episode is brought to you with support from the American Alpine Club. I was honored to be able to record this wide-ranging interview with violinist Yale Strom, who is the leading ethnographer-artist of Klezmer music and history, and also has done many years of research among the Roma communities. He speaks to us about some of his many inspiring experiences during over 75 research expeditions to Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans. To prepare for this episode, I read several of his books, including his 400 page The Book of Klezmer: The History, The Music, The Folklore, some of which we touched on during this conversation, and he also spoke about two of his upcoming books and other projects. Yale is an energetic and prolific creator; he's also a filmmaker, photographer, educator, playwright and composer, and we spoke about many of his projects during this wide-ranging interview.  Timestamps below. https://www.leahroseman.com/episodes/yale-strom Video Transcript Yale Strom Website To support this series, please either buy me a coffee or shop at my merchandise store Newsletter sign-up You may be also interested in these episodes:  Alicia Svigals (both episodes linked) Polina Shepherd, Josh “Socalled” Dolgin, and Marilyn Lerner.   Timestamps:  (00:00) Intro (02:29) Yale's career as ethnographer-artist (04:03) Stoliner shul concert in Detroit Victory Fellowship Baptist Church (10:44)  Oberek Palota, Klezmer music from Slovakia, from the album “Borsht with Bread, Brothers” with Yale Strom and Hot Pstromi (14:34) ethnographic research, Wandering Feast book, Yiddish, meeting Holocaust survivors (24:43)The Witches of Lublin (27:26) Dire Gelt from The Devil's Brides with Yale Strom and Hot Pstromi, vocals with Elizabeth Schwartz (31:10) Yale Strom's films The Last Klezmer, A Great Day in Eldridge Street, the Man from Munkasc, An American Socialist, the Life and Times of Eugene Victor Debs (35:09)Leopold Kozlowski, The Last Klezmer, Naftuli Brandwein (39:33) Rom musicians, book Uncertain Roads, Searching for the Gypsies, connections with the Jews (49:46) Klezmer loshn secret language and culture (58:46) the lost Stoliner Weinstein manuscript, upcoming book  (01:07:02) other episodes with Klezmer musicians and ways to support this series (01:07:42) Yale's compositions and commissions (01:17:28) Dave Tarras (01:22:19) Influences of Klezmer and Romani on Russian school of violin playing, Oistrach, Auer (01:29:25) Shimmering Lights album, Sara Caswell, influences of prayers on Klezmer (01:33:53) excerpt from Bashir Mizmor, Shimmering Lights album Yale Strom's Broken Consort, with Sara Caswell improv  (01:35:56) The Expulsion of the Jews, Sephardic communities research (01:43:33) Schlomo books, new musical about the Chagalls, Sweet Fragrance of Life

3 important rules about the word order in Luxembourgish

Luxembourgish with Anne PODCAST

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 24, 2024 14:57

There are cases in which Luxembourgish and English word order are identical, however the word order in Luxembourgish is more variable and flexible than in English. In particular, sentences need not begin with the subject. BUT there are strict rules determining the position of the VERB and there are a few other rules to bear in mind.1. The Verb is Always the Second ElementNo matter which element begins a Luxembourgish declarative sentence (a statement), the verb is always the second element. If you remember nothing else about Luxembourgish word order, remember this. The subject for instance ech, den Hond, Meng Kanner, d'Haus will either come first or immediately after the verb if the subject is not the first element. This is a simple and fast rule. In a statement (not a question) the verb always comes second. This rule applies to sentences and phrases that are independent clauses.A “normal” word order places the subject first, the verb second, and any other elements third.Examples:Ech léieren haut Lëtzebuergesch. – I learn Luxembourgish today.Haut léieren ech Lëtzebuergesch. – Today I learn Luxembourgish. (Lit: Today learn I Luxembourgish)Remark:“in second position” or “second place,” means the second element, NOT necessarily the second word.Only one element can precede the verb, but it may consist of more than one word, for example Haut den Owend. In such cases, the verb remains second and the subject must immediately follow the verb:⇒Haut den Owend léieren ech Lëtzebuergesch. –This evening I learn Luxembourgish.⇒Um wéi vill Auer bass du muer doheem. –At what time are you at home tomorrow2. Time, Manner and Place: Wéini, Wéi, WouAnother area where Luxembourgish syntax may vary from that of English is the position of expressions of time wéini?, manner wéi? and place wou?In English we would say, Tom is coming home by train today. English word order in such cases is place, manner, time… the exact opposite of Luxembourgish. We say: time, manner, place.Examples:Den Tom kënnt haut mam Zuch heem. ⇒ haut (time), mam Zuch (manner), heem (place).Ech ginn all Dag mam Auto op d'Aarbecht. ⇒ all Dag (time), mam Auto (manner), d'Aarbecht (place). – I go to work by car everyday.3. Sentence BracketWhen you have a separable verb (with a prefix), a modal verb or when a verb is used in combination with a second verb then the conjugated verb still stays in POSITION 2. This creates a sentence bracket that contains all of the other information.Examples: Meng Mamm fiert normalerweis um 6 Auer heem. – My mom usually goes home at 6pm.Here we have a separable verb heemfueren. ⇒ fueren is the stem and heem is the a prefix. For such verbs, the prefix is separated from the stem and placed at the end of the sentence in the present tense (as long as the clause is not subordinate or relative).Meng Mamm wëll haut um 6 Auer heemfueren. – My mom wants to go home at 6pm today. Here we have the modal verb wëllen (the conjugated verb) and the 2. verb comes at the very end of the sentence. In this case a separable verb is no longer separated.Meng Mamm ass haut um 6 Auer heemgefuer. My mom came home at 6pm today.I know that the sentence order is quite challenging. That's why And as there is much to say about the word order in Luxembourgish sentences I decided to create an online course – 10 day course: Understand the Basics of Luxembourgish Sentence Structure - this is included for FREE in the online course A1FSummary :1 Simple, declarative sentences are identical in Luxembourgish and English: Subject, verb, other. Ech léiere Lëtzebuergesch2 The verb is always the second element in a Luxembourgish sentence. Am Summer ginn ech gär an d'Schwämm..3 Luxembourgish sentences are usually “Time, Manner, Place.” Ech fueren um 8 Auer moies mam Auto op d'Aarbecht4 With separable, modal verbs and tenses, the second verb goes last, but the conjugated verb is still second.Ech fueren ëmmer um 6 Auer owes heemWebsite: https://luxembourgishwithanne.luSproochentest Oral Exam Prep Class:https://courses.luxembourgishwithanne.lu/p/oralexamFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/luxembourgishwithanne.lu/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/luxembourgishwithanne/?hl=enLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/80364342/admin/feed/postsYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCh7_kWqrLaZea-IJH46KJEA

Have you ever wondered if there's more to healing from trauma than just talking about it?   Trauma recovery can be a complex and daunting process, especially if traditional talk therapy methods have left you feeling stuck or frustrated. If you've ever felt like you're not making progress despite knowing the root causes of your trauma, you're not alone.   Many individuals struggle with the misconception that trauma can be fully healed through verbal expression alone. However, the reality is that trauma often resides in the deeper parts of our brain and body, beyond the reach of words. This can leave you feeling like you're spinning your wheels without making real progress.   Today, we are joined by Lauren, a licensed clinical professional counselor with a focus on trauma-related modalities. Lauren is one of our esteemed speakers for the upcoming Concussion Nerds Virtual Summit this fall, and I am so excited to have her with us.She is the owner of Steadfast Counseling, a private practice specializing in comprehensive trauma care. Lauren is trained in EMDR and is a certified Brainspotting practitioner. Through these advanced modalities, she offers clients a holistic approach to healing, encompassing body, mind, and nervous system recovery, facilitating their journey beyond areas of stagnation towards profound liberation.   Before establishing her private practice, Lauren gained experience across diverse roles within mental health agencies. This journey granted her a comprehensive vantage point on the intricate impacts of trauma across various populations, age groups, developmental stages, and roles. Her background encompasses collaborative work with both offenders and victims, uniquely shaping her insight into the lived experience of trauma and its path to healing.   Lauren also has extensive experience conducting training sessions on critical subjects such as vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue. Her audience ranges from mental health practitioners and school personnel to law enforcement, military personnel, and medical staff. This breadth of experience underscores her commitment to empowering and equipping fellow professionals with the tools needed to address and mitigate the pervasive effects of trauma.
