(Tarrare, The Insatiable Glutton) *** A sickly-sweet smell and then burning sensations, nausea, and partial paralysis. It began with one, then many in a small town in Illinois. It was a gas attack – but who was the culprit? Or even stranger – was it in everyone's imaginations? (Who Was The Mad Gasser of Mattoon?) *** A baby begins screaming when her mother moves them into a new apartment. (Mother's Helper) *** “Momo” may sound like a funny name – but it was no laughing matter to Missouri residents trying to track down the huge, black, hairy monster. (The Missouri Monster) *** A veteran claims a pastor was an alien involved in a conspiracy here on Earth, with members of congress, to enslave all humans – and that's why he shot him in the head. (Aliens and Attempted Murder) *** Attention in Puerto Rico has recently turned to a recurring horror – a real life gargoyle attacking and sucking the blood from their chickens. (The Gargoyle of Puerto Rico) *** A hunter suddenly became the hunted of a mysterious creature in Wyoming. (I Faced A Wendigo) *** A man and his family experience strange and terrifying events in their home located next to a meteor crater. (I've Never Told My Story) *** Part bat. Part bigfoot. What has been unfortunately named “Batsquatch” sounds like a B-list villain in a DC comic taking on the Caped Crusader, but for some who live in Washington state near Mt. A brief catch up of our story in case you want to jump in laterSpoilers for Cornfield CryptidsPreviously in Cornfield Cryptids, we picked up after the murder of Roger Clean 29 years later when the Kinder Center Heroes had largely retired and a new generation of heroes was getting ready to make their way in the world. Alice, Thomas, Cheats, and Kayl tracked down a serial burglar only to find that it was a man named Gary Grant who had been turned into a Missouri Monster by some malevolent force. Rescuing him and giving him a place to stay with Alice's mentor, White Rabbit, the gang all went to the neighborhood cookout put on by Kayl's dad, Kyle Redni. Fights were had, noses were kissed, and the gang eventually all got back together to watch some movies and bond. Not all was well however, Alice got home and realized her dads had been kidnapped! Calling her friends over, the young heroes headed to Spriggan Labs where Alice realized her dad, Dusty Starr, was none other than the thought dead hero, Smiles Per Hour. The teens teamed up with Alice's other dad, Radford Starr, to fight off security and find Dusty. With quick thinking and back up from the adults, they were able to save Dusty's life. Though as our heroes are about to learn, they may have survived this crisis but that nightmare has just begun…

For more than a century, reports of a strange beast known as the Fouke Monster have circulated among the locals in southern Arkansas. Described as a large, hairy man-like creature, it's said to haunt the vast Sulphur River Bottoms as it travels the secluded waterway known as Boggy Creek. Over the years, the creature has been seen by numerous witnesses, including respected citizens, experienced hunters, famous musicians, and even a police officer. In this episode, we'll continue our conversation about monsters. We'll talk about "Texas Bigfoot," "Momo the Missouri Monster," and "The Mothman of Point Pleasant," all books written by our guest, Lyle Blackburn. The 1970s produced a distinct flavor of Sasquatch, one that could be found in nationwide headlines in states like Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Pennsylvania. Often these sightings would be accompanied by other anomalous events, like UFOs, strange voices, and odd smells. 1972 was a year riddled with both. In a commentary for the North American Newspaper Alliance, Keel wrote “Hairy Monsters Eclipse Comeback By UFOs.” “After a three year ‘lull' with comparatively few flying saucers being reported, the little green men attempted a comeback this year. “But a seven-foot hairy monster with a serious perspiration problem walked away with most of the publicity.” On this episode we look deep into "The Missouri Monster" or Momo encounters that took place in Louisiana, Missouri. The Summer of 72 was an active time for Bigfoots, as a series of other infamous encounters took place in Indiana and Pennsylvania that year, making it the true Summer of the Squatch! Recommending the show to others helps make it possible for me to keep doing the show!IN THIS EPISODE: (Dark Archives episode with stories from September 10-11, 2018) *** A sickly-sweet smell and then burning sensations, nausea, and partial paralysis. (Aliens and Attempted Murder) *** While most of the attention in Puerto Rico is being directed at the continuing slow recovery from Hurricane Maria, one small town there is dealing with a second horror – a real life gargoyle attacking and sucking the blood from their chickens. (Gargoyle of Puerto Rico) *** A hunter suddenly became the hunted of a mysterious creature in Wyoming. (I Faced A Wendigo) *** Tarrare, an 18th-century French showman, could eat enough to feed 15 people and swallow cats whole — but his stomach was never satisfied, even to the point, he was rumored, to consume human flesh. (Tarrare, The Insatiable Glutton) *** A man and his family experience strange and terrifying events in their home located next to a meteor crater. (I've Never Told My Story) *** Part bat. Part bigfoot. What has been unfortunately named “Batsquatch” sounds like a B-list villain in a DC comic taking on the Caped Crusader, but for some who live in Washington state near Mt. St. Helens, it's not imaginary at all. (Bizarre Encounters With Batsquatch) *** If you mention gnomes to someone, most think of those tiny ceramic or concrete figurines people place in gardens or on their front doorstep to greet visitors. But in a certain portion of England, if you mention gnomes – you get the real thing. (The Mysterious Gnomes of Wollaton Park) *** We go back to a normal, sunny Tuesday morning in 2001 – when the world changed forever after a terrorist attack on the U.S., left families in despair, a country in fear, and spirits of those lost still wandering ground zero to this day. The rural backroads of Missouri are reportedly home to an evasive ape-like creature. First encountered in January 1969 this creature would come to be known as Momo (MO being both the abbreviation of Missouri and monster). While this creatures title may not seem frightening to us weirdos, it would strike fear into the hearts of the locals for decades.

GUEST: Lyle Blackburn is a native Texan known for his work in writing, music, and film. He is the author of several acclaimed books, including “The Beast of Boggy Creek” and “Lizard Man,” whose subject matter reflects his life-long fascination with legends and sighting reports of unknown creatures. Lyle is also the founder of the rock band, Ghoultown, columnist for the horror magazine, Rue Morgue, and narrator/producer of documentary films such as “The Mothman of Point Pleasant” and “Boggy Creek Monster.” His latest books is Momo: The Strange Case of the Missouri Monster.
Lane Bailey recently tagged a monster buck in Missouri that scored nearly 200 inches. Bailey had been chasing this buck for several years and finally put the pieces of the puzzle together and wrapped his tag around his antler. Bailey recovered sheds from the buck, gained access to private ground, scouted and hunted hard, all in an effort to ensure he would get an opportunity to harvest this once-in-a-lifetime buck.
