In the fall last year I became aware of the legend of the Leshy of pagan Slavic culture through an excellent YA novel called "Where the Dark Stands Still" by Polish writer A.B. Poranek. When I googled the Leshy I was astounded to see images of what I recognised as the Wendigo. So this got me thinking - is there a Slavic influence at play here too? Perhaps this is something you could look in to!    I am really looking forward to the book and film regarding the Wendigo which I understand may come out next year. I have been fascinated by the Wendigo since reading Algernon Blackwood's novella and there is one passage in particular that always sticks in my mind:   "And soon after he slept, the change of wind he had divined stirred gently the reflection of the stars within the lake. Rising among the far ridges of the country beyond Fifty Island Water, it came from the direction in which he had stared, and it passed over the sleeping camp with a faint and sighing murmur through the tops of the big trees that was almost too delicate to be audible. My special guest tonight is Cliff Barackman who is a Bigfoot Field Researcher and Co-Host of Animal Planet's Finding Bigfoot www.CliffBarackman.com   Alleged behavior Some Bigfoot researchers allege that Bigfoot throws rocks as territorial displays and for communication.[80][81][82] Other alleged behaviors include audible blows struck against trees or "wood knocking", further alleged to be communicative.[83][84][85] Skeptics argue that these behaviors are easily hoaxed.[86] Additionally, structures of broken and twisted foliage seemingly placed in specific areas have been attributed by some to Bigfoot behavior.[87] In some reports, lodgepole pine and other small trees have been observed bent, uprooted, or stacked in patterns such as weaved and crisscrossed, leading some to theorize that they are potential territorial markings.[88]Some instances have also included entire deer skeletons being suspended high in trees.[89] In Washington state, a team of amateur Bigfoot researchers called the Olympic Project claimed to have discovered a collection of nests, and they had primatologists study them, with the conclusion being that they appear to have been created by a primate.[90] Many alleged sightings are reported to occur at night leading to some speculations that the creatures may possess nocturnal tendencies.[91] However, experts find such behavior untenable in a supposed ape- or human-like creature, as all known apes, including humans, are diurnal, with only lesser primates exhibiting nocturnality.[92] Most anecdotal sightings of Bigfoot describe the creatures allegedly observed as solitary, although some reports have described groups being allegedly observed together.[93] Alleged vocalizations Alleged vocalizations such as howls, screams, moans, grunts, whistles, and even a form of supposed language have been reported and allegedly recorded.[94][95] Some of these alleged vocalization recordings have been analyzed by individuals such as retired U.S. Navy cryptologic linguist Scott Nelson. He analyzed audio recordings from the early 1970s said to be recorded in the Sierra Nevada mountains dubbed the "Sierra Sounds" and stated, "It is definitely a language, it is definitely not human in origin, and it could not have been faked".[96] Les Stroud has spoken of a strange vocalization he heard in the wilderness while filming Survivorman that he stated sounded primate in origin.[97] The majority of mainstream scientists maintain that the source of the sounds often attributed to Bigfoot are either hoaxes, anthropomorphization, or likely misidentified and produced by known animals such as owl, wolf, coyote, and fox.[98][99][100] Alleged encounters A story from 1924, often referred to as the "Battle of Ape Canyon", presents miners being attacked by large, hairy "ape men" that threw rocks onto their cabin roof from a nearby cliff after one of the miners allegedly shot one with a rifle.[101] In Fouke, Arkansas in 1971, a family reported that a large, hair-covered creature startled a woman after reaching through a window. During the summer of 1924, a daring group of gold prospectors encountered a perplexing situation when they alleged being attacked by towering ape-like creatures hurling massive boulders. According to their account, while venturing through the untamed wilderness, one of the prospectors fired his rifle at one of the creatures, successfully hitting it three times. To their astonishment, the wounded animal tumbled off a cliff, disappearing into an inaccessible canyon. Later on, the ape men allegedly retaliated by bombarding their cabin with enormous stones and leaving behind colossal footprints.News of this extraordinary tale quickly spread throughout the local community, causing quite a stir. Intrigued by the reports, U.S. Forest Service rangers J.H. Huffman and William Welch took it upon themselves to investigate the matter. Determined to uncover the truth, Huffman and Welch ventured into the supposedly "inaccessible canyon," hoping to find evidence of the mysterious creatures. However, their search yielded no results. In fact, they even demonstrated how the 14-inch-long footprints discovered near the cabin could easily be fabricated, leading them to conclude that the miners themselves had likely placed the large stones to enhance their story.Despite the rangers' thorough debunking of the prospectors' account, the allure of the tale persisted. "People still wanted to believe" in the existence of these enigmatic creatures. Along the southeast shoulder of Mount St. Helens, was a cabin whose occupants spent a night being attacked by a horrifying creature. Was it bigfoot, or a hoax?

During the summer of 1924, a team of gold seekers alleged that they were attacked by giant, ape-like creatures, measuring about 7 feet tall, who hurled boulders at them. Their story recounts an encounter with these beings in a remote area, where a member of their group shot at one of the creatures, hitting it thrice, resulting in it falling off a cliff into an unreachable canyon. Allegedly, these ape-like entities retaliated later by pelting their cabin with sizable rocks and leaving behind enormous footprints, in a series of events now remembered as the Ape Canyon incident.  The story of the Ape Canyon incident remains  one of the most well known stories in the history of Sasquatch studies, as well as one of its most controversial... but now, additional evidence may help corroborate it. On the rugged slopes of the majestic Mount St. Helens, a place of unparalleled beauty and treacherous allure, lies a haunting chapter in the annals of American history. In the early 1920s, a group of intrepid prospectors embarked on an expedition to try and strike it rich upon the high and isolated mountain slopes. As they ventured further into the wild expanse, the prospectors began to witness eerie phenomena that defied all rational explanation. Strange footprints, larger than any known animal, appeared near their campsite. On this episode of Expanded Perspectives the guys start the show off talking about what they have been up too, along with Luke and Cam's birthday quickly approaching. Then, a listener writes in with a strange experience they had while driving on a deserted road in July of 1976 in California. Where they abducted by alien beings? Next, a hunter up in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming, woke up one night to see a large hairy humanoid pillaging his cooler and throwing things around.  After the break, Cam brings up some strange tales of glitches in time, overlapping time and time slips! Time slips or time glitches are a commonly reported phenomenon. Many believe time slips support the holographic universe theory. Synchronicity is another phenomenon that for many supports this holographic universe theory. Some believe Deja Vu is another phenomenon that indicates we live in a simulation. Time lapses, glitches and losses are often associated with the paranormal. This phenomenon is very broad and can manifest in many different ways, but it mainly manifests as objects that suddenly appear or disappear, as if spawned/respawned in a video game. This includes cars completely appearing from nowhere into traffic intersections, or people disappearing from a video out of nowhere.  Fred Beck, one of the miners who fought off an attack by a group of Bigfoot in the Ape Canyon incident of 1924 held fast to the view that the creatures he saw were not flesh and blood but immaterial beings which had briefly manifested in the material world of human perceptions. He categorized them as inter-dimensional beings or unconscious manifestations, similar in creation to a 'Tulpa' or thought-form. All of this and more on this installment of Expanded Perspectives!
