The MSTIE gang is back yet again and this time we're continuing to highlight the best moments by each era of Mystery Science Theater 3000.   Before Michael J. Nelson helmed the remainder of the show on the future infamous SciFi Channel, he still had to cover up the remaining gap and a theatrical movie by closing up the Comedy Central run with the other cohorts Trace Beaulieu, Frank Conniff, Kevin Murphy and Co.! Which episodes are still dynamite fun and full of belly aching laughs? Which episodes are underappreciated? MSTie fan Shelly Repko joins us for Jon and I's first embarkment on the cartoons that made us tick on both the cable channels, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network!   Did Cartoon Network start becoming a fad around '04 or was it more around '06? Did Nickelodeon try too hard to do too many Saturday Night Live type sketch shows (only aimed for kids)? How many had the cable tv package which would just shift from Nick to Teen Nick and then Nick at Nite on just one station? Did Adult Swim practically take over Cartoon Network more so than the Toonami programming block? I'm apologizing up-front for this one--it was recorded in my vehicle on my iPhone mic, so it takes a step back in sound quality, at least to my ear, and apart from the opening, there aren't any of the usual assortment of snarky clips.  It's been a crazy couple of months, so I'm (as usual!) behind schedule on Episode 9...I'm hoping to have it ready to drop in January...Anyway, in this Short Take, I offer my thoughts on the upcoming release of Rogue One in theaters (although I know at this point some have already seen it), some nerdy observations on the vehicles in this film (at least as we understand them at this point) and ruminations about the impact they could have had in the Original Trilogy, then I switch into MSTie mode with thoughts on the Shout! Factory box sets as opposed to the good old days of Circulating The Tapes, and finish with a defense of the original Gamera series.  Enjoy!Peace,RDNShort Takes #2 - In the Not-Too-Distant Future, in a Galaxy Far, Far Away...Music:"Battle of the Heroes/Imperial March" - John Williams, performed by Epica"Mighty Science Theater 3000 (MST3K End Theme Accordion Cover)" - Charlie Erickson and Joel Hodgson, performed by Jackson Parodi (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=js8ETMwPTWo)"Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie Main Title" - Billy Barber"Gamera Theme" - I don't have the foggiest clue..."Tibby, Oh Tibby" - Written and arranged by Michael J. In this episode, we talk to David about graphic design, the meaning of fandom and his creative process. Plus, Greg and Ryan tackle an Ed Wood “classic” – the ahead-of-its-time (but still awful) “Glen or Genda?” In the Mini-Soda Review, the podcast crew samples a listener-submitted drink, and James Rohling gets serious about why he’s a MSTIE. All this and gratuitous nudity on this week’s episode of the Revival League Podcast! Ever wanted to contemplate Zap Rowsdower, Torgo or Tom Servo indulging in a sultry strip tease? Then prepare to pop a pastie and embark on a journey of arealogical, autoerotical, tubular boobular joy with an all MST3K-themed burlesque show! Ryan and Greg sit down with show organizer and performer extraordinaire Miss Mona De Plume. Mona is the mad genius behind Portland, Oregon’s “We've got Boobie Sign – A Burlesque Tribute to MST3K.” Mona decided to see what happens when burlesque lands on the Satellite of Love. Trust us, the results are spectacular! In “Cheesy Movies We’d Like to See Riffed,” the gang tackles a bandolier and mankini-wearing Sean Connery in the cinematic madness that is, “Zardoz.” And in the “Mini Soda Review,” the fellas wake up by quaffing World Market’s Coffee Soda, while reviewer James reviews the non-movie, “Monster A Go Go” in his “Reviewers in the MSTie” segment. The plug may have been pulled on the RenFest Kickstarter, but that doesn’t stop the Podcast Gang from going full on Renaissance Faire, anyway! Part Two of our interview with Dr. Clayton Forrester himself, Trace Beaulieu! This half of the interview tackles MST3K and The Mads Are Back. Plus, Host Ryan plugs his aquatic masterpiece, “Goodbye Angler Fish.” The results are fishy, at best. In the segment, “Cheesy Movies We’d Like to See Riffed,” the gang tackles 2006’s unhinged Nic Cage vehicle, “The Wicker Man.” In the “Mini Soda Review,” an old enemy resurfaces to haunt the gang in the form of Fentimans’s Lemonade Rose Soda. In a very special Medieval fantasy episode, Erica, Ryan and Greg interview Dr. Forrester himself, Trace Beaulieu (that’s “Bowl-You,” folks!) Trace discusses his new T.V. comedy, “RenFest,” set behind-the-scenes at a Renaissance festival and billed as “The Office” meets “Game of Thrones.” Trace talks about the “RenFest” Kickstarter campaign, Vengeful Nerds, and what makes for quintessential “Minnesota-ishness.” In “The Feedback Loop,” Ryan and Blake examine Nuka Cola and what MST3K means to various fans. In the segment, “Cheesy Movies We’d Like to See Riffed,” Greg goes all “brillig, and the slithy toves” and tackles Terry Gilliam’s 1977 fantasy spoof, “Jabberwocky.” In honor of Memorial Day weekend, the Podcast Gang celebrates their homeland by quaffing Americana Root Beer by Orca Beverage Company in the “Mini Soda Review.” And in, “Reviewers in the MSTie,” James considers “Pod People.” The verdict: It stinks! Hosts Ryan and Blake sit down with guerilla director and master of the Hollywood low-budget movie, Rick Sloane, best known in “Mystery Science Theater 3000” circles for his 1988 horror flick, “Hobgoblins.” The Podcast Gang reads viewer mail in “The Feedback Loop,” and tries to decide how to best rank the strange and wonderful (and occasionally terrible) sodas they taste each week. The Gang debuts a new segment, “Cheesy Movies We’d Like to See Riffed.” This episode’s discussion – “Turkish Star Wars,” or “Dünyayı Kurtaran Adam (The Man Who Saved the World).” In the “Mini Soda Review,” Host Greg introduces the others to a staple of Japanese summer, Ramune Lychee Soda, as well as the eccentricities of the drink’s Codd-neck bottle. Mostly, Ryan wants to smash the bottle for the glass marble. In “Reviewers in the MSTie,” James braves, “Fire Maidens of Outer Space.” A movie so bad, James shoots his Old Timey Pianer Player Rummy – who plays in the background music – to spare Rummy the misery.
