Ep. 70 - From Raleigh PD to True Crime Author: Cameron Santana on his law enforcement career and the Virginia Olson Cold Case. Cameron has 20 years in law enforcement. He started with Raleigh PD in 2005. In our conversation, we jump right in with his first call straight out of the academy – a violent murder scene. Cameron talks about what it's like hitting the streets with no real world LE experience, being surrounded by chaos and relying on the direction of his Field Training Officer. Then, within short two years, Cameron would go from having an FTO to being an FTO and later Taser Instructor. In all, he trained more than 30 officers.Cameron later joined Raleigh PD's Strike Team the goal of which was to aggressively address the city's problem areas through proactive policing. The unit's focus was on violent gang offenders, street level drug sales, and prostitution. The team also conducted surveillance during spikes in burglaries. After about 13 years on patrol, Cameron transitioned to School Resource Officer because the set schedule would allow him to spend more time with his family after his daughter was born with special needs. School Resource Officer was a role he never expected he would want, much less come to love. Throughout our conversation, Cameron shares funny, often wild stories of police work, as well as the painful calls that all of you respond to in this profession, calls that live with him to this day.Cameron has co-authored a true crime book with his brother Brian, an English professor. The book, “A Murder on Campus: The Professor, the Cop and North Carolina's Most Notorious Cold Case,” investigates the 1973 unsolved rape and murder of 19-year-old Virginia Olson, a student at University of North Carolina Asheville. It is the first book to thoroughly investigate her story and attempt to find answers to solve this now 52-year-old cold case. The book has led to Cameron's launching his own podcast “Santana True Crime” on the Failure to Stop network. As well as a podcast called “Free Daniel Holtzclaw” with Eric Tansey of Failure to Stop. Available on all podcast platforms. //The Wire//2200Z April 21, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: POPE FRANCIS PASSES AWAY THIS MORNING. CHINA ANNOUNCES LATEST MOVE IN USA/CHINA TRADE WAR.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE----- -International Events-Vatican City: Pope Francis passed away early this morning at the age of 88, following his bout of respiratory illness. The Vatican stated that Pope Francis died at his residence after experiencing a stroke this morning.Switzerland: Klaus Schwab, the founder of the infamous World Economic Forum abruptly announced his resignation from his position as Chair of the forum, along with his seat on the Board of Trustees.AC: No comment was provided on the reason for Schwab stepping aside, and the resignation took effect immediately. However, Schwab had taken a reduced role at the Forum anyway, after handing over most of the day-to-day operations of the organization to Børge Brende back in May of last year.Far East: The trade war between the United States and China continues to expand, with China announcing a new style of retaliatory tariffs. Though the announcement from China's Ministry of Commerce was somewhat vague, the general sentiment is that for any nation that works with the United States regarding their own tariffs, China will impose Chinese tariffs on that nation.AC: If this is what China intends to do, this is a significant development. Taxing a third-party nation simply because that nation is working favorably with the USA, is purely a "friend of my enemy is an enemy" approach to this trade crisis that highlights just how serious Beijing is regarding this situation. In short, this whole affair may just be more serious than it appears at face value.  -HomeFront-Florida: This morning Delta Flight 1213 experienced an engine fire before takeoff in Orlando. The fire occurred as the No. 2 engine was started after pushback from the gate, prompting the inflatable slides to be deployed to evacuate passengers to the taxiway.New Mexico: A local county magistrate judge has resigned following an incident that involved harboring an illegal alien two months ago. Back in February, Cristhian Ortega-Lopez was arrested on a variety of charges at Judge Cano's home, where he had been living.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: The resignation of Judge Cano is not particularly surprising as this judge openly confessed to harboring this illegal alien at his residence. In photos posted to his personal (and public) Facebook page, the judge was also seen in video footage that shows the illegal handling weapons. The reason as to why this two-month-old story is worth mentioning now is due to the quiet "retirement" of the judge at nearly the same time that various court docs claim the illegal was a member of Tren de Aragua (TdA), the infamous gang that has been recently designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). While this development largely went unnoticed by the general public, this FTO designation is no joke. This categorization allows a plethora of tools (to include kinetic targeting efforts) to be used to combat the groups designated as FTOs. It's bad enough for a judge to openly harbor an illegal alien for political purposes, but it's a different thing altogether to harbor someone who's part of a terrorist organization. It is that FTO label that changes the game; it's entirely a different atmosphere to harbor someone with the same designation as Bin Laden. Though this is speculative, this is probably why this judge quietly got shut down and pressured into "retirement". Everyone knows that it's almost impossible to indict a judge for anything at all (even low-level county magistrates), but it's also hard to remain in the public eye after being caught knowingly harboring a federally designated terrorist on US soil, and providing that individual with small arms.Analyst: S2A1Research: https://p

The CIA is currently evaluating its legal authority to conduct drone strikes against Mexican drug cartels, following the Trump administration's designation of several cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs). This designation potentially expands the CIA's counterterrorism tools, allowing for covert operations similar to those used against groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS. While no drone strikes have been ordered yet, the CIA has been conducting surveillance flights over Mexico with the country's approval, gathering intelligence on cartel operations. The administration is exploring the use of Title 50 to authorize covert CIA missions, which would bypass the need for military engagement under Title 10.However, this potential shift in U.S. strategy has raised concerns in Mexico. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has firmly stated that Mexico would reject any unilateral military action by the United States on its soil, emphasizing that such measures would not solve the issue of drug trafficking and would violate Mexico's sovereignty. Additionally, a top Pentagon official clarified that the U.S. military lacks the authority to carry out drone strikes against drug cartels in Mexico, despite the FTO designation. The official noted that while the designation supports a broader governmental strategy against drug trafficking, it does not legally grant the military strike capabilities.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:CIA is reviewing its authorities to use lethal force against drug cartels | CNN Politics

The latest episode of the Center for Immigration Studies podcast series features guest host Senior National Security Fellow Todd Bensman in conversation with Jaeson Jones, a leading expert on Mexican cartels and a border correspondent. This timely discussion highlights the recent designation of six Mexican drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) by the Trump administration and the multifaceted approach by all levels of government that this permits, allowing the U.S. to combat the cartels in sync with the Mexican government.Key topics covered include:Evolution of Mexican Cartels: Exploration of how Mexican cartels, now in 65 countries around the world, have transitioned from organized crime syndicates to parallel governments in Mexico, exhibiting extreme violence and governmental infiltration.Advocacy for FTO Designation: Discussion on Jones' rationale for advocating for the FTO designation, emphasizing the need for enhanced legal frameworks to effectively combat the rapid and violent operations of cartels.Strategic Framework Post-Designation: Analysis of the comprehensive approach required to dismantle cartel networks, underscoring the necessity for coordinated efforts across all branches of government.Implications of FTO Status: Examination of the potential outcomes of the FTO designation, including:Revocation of visas for individuals associated with designated cartels.Inclusion of cartel affiliates on no-fly lists.Enhanced capabilities to target and seize financial assets linked to cartel operations.Addressing Fentanyl Trafficking: Strategies to combat the smuggling of fentanyl, focusing on disrupting supply chains originating from countries such as China, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, and addressing the corruption within Mexico that facilitates these operations.Game Changer: Prediction by Jones – With the FTO designation, the number of lives we can now save is unprecedented. In his closing commentary, Bensman highlights the recent agreement between Mexico and the United States, in which Mexico will deploy 10,000 additional troops to the border, and the United States will assist in intercepting American guns that end up in cartel hands. However, Bensman notes a lack of reliable evidence supporting the claim that most of the cartels' firearms come from U.S. gun stores. The cartels have, for years, equipped themselves with military-grade weapons from Mexico's own corrupt military and from the armories of corrupt officials in Central American and South American nations.HostTodd Bensman is a National Security Fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies.GuestJaeson Jones is an expert on Mexican cartels and a border correspondent.RelatedJaeson Jones WebsiteJaeson Jones on XAmerican Guns Are Not to Blame for Mexico's Cartel ProblemIntro MontageVoices in the opening montage:Sen. With Democrats blocking quick consideration on the Senate floor, they may find themselves stuck in Washington over the weekend when the final votes take place.Next, they cheer President Trump's decision to reclassify the Iran-backed Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization. After Joe Biden removed the Houthis from the list upon taking office, he later imposed much lighter sanctions on the group. This move was widely viewed as an attempt to appease Iran, even as the Houthis continued to create chaos for shipping in the Red Sea and throughout the region. Finally, they get a good laugh as former CIA Director John Brennan whines to MSNBC about Trump rescinding his security clearance. Brennan, along with dozens of others, falsely claimed in 2020 that the Hunter Biden laptop was part of a Russian disinformation campaign. Now, he tries to backpedal, claiming he never said it was disinformation, but rather a “Russian information operation.” Jim and Greg are having none of it.

All the Links: Access all our platforms here: https://linktr.ee/theaustinjadams ----more---- Full Transcription   All right, so if we go down to 3. 4e in this document, it talks about the use of deadly force. And it's essentially what you would expect. If there's an imminent danger, or if he or she is not for a moment pointing a weapon at a person, for example. So even if you're not pointing a weapon at them, he or she has a weapon within reach, or is running for cover carrying a weapon,  they can shoot you.  Civilians. So if you're, I don't know,  open carrying,  and they think that you pose any type of threat, they can just shoot you.  Civilians, the military,  during civil unrest, right?  DoD recognizes and respects paramount value of all human life if less than valuable or less than deadly force can be reasonably expected to accomplish the same result without reasonably increasing the danger to armed DoD personnel.  Deadly force is justified when there is a reasonable belief  that the person,  the subject of such force, poses an imminent threat of death or serious bodily harm to a person Or under the circumstances described in the 3. 4e. So essentially what it's saying is  any and all circumstances, if you have a weapon, if you're open carrying, which you have the right to do,  or even if you're concealed carrying and somehow they know that you're holding that weapon or have that weapon in the vicinity of you, they could shoot you if they think that you pose any type of threat,  you know, the laws that were designed to  be weaponized against our enemies.  is now being weaponized against us. So if we go to the document that I'm talking about now, right? So we have those two DoD directives. We understand that. But this is also something I want to point and draw your attention to is, and this is the last thing of this document, then we'll move to the actual National Terrorist Advisory document,  which is the USD and I and S approval. So it says, so this is how they actually get the soldiers. This is the approval process. Um,  if the requested personnel exceeds 20 people,  then you have to But if it's less than 20 armed military soldiers authorized to use deadly force, you don't.  You don't.  Within the United States of America.  Or, if the duration of the requested  assistance exceeds 30 days, so you don't even need approval. If you get 20 soldiers for 29 days,  You don't even need a DOD approval. You don't need to have the Secretary of Defense  approve the request. You can just go right around them. Go to the military. They'll send you 20 soldiers for 29 days. And then you can request it again for another 29 days that are authorized to use lethal force on civilians.  Now let's see who they're concerned about, because that's what the DECCS document talks about, or Concerned about, but who, who they're going to start to say poses a risk, right? Now, this document isn't just about that. This talks about foreign foreign enemies as well, and some election interference from Russia and China and what these people are trying to, this isn't just about American citizens, but a large portion of it is  a large portion of it is.  All right,  let me go ahead and switch this here. So you guys can watch  what I'm looking at.  Not that.  All right. So  here we go. Here's your document.  Now, if you're on YouTube, you can follow along and actually look at this with us.  Uh, let's make that a little bit bigger for you.  Okay,  here we go.  Here is the document office of intelligence  and analysis,  Homeland threat assessment, Homeland security 2025. All right. So here is your table of contents talks about the border talks. There's the executive summary.  Um, but let's go down and look  at some of the stuff that I have outlined here. Um, now if you want this document, I'll send it to you. Uh, head over to my Instagram, I'll be posting some videos of this.  And there'll be a keyword that you can comment that I'll send you both of these.  You can also just look up the name of the document on Google and find it yourself, but yeah.  Alright, so it says public safety and security. Alright, this is page one.  It says over the next year, domestic and foreign violent extremists, the harmful effects of illegal drugs in adversarial states, seek to exacerbate our divisions, as well as silence criticism for diaspora communities, will pose a threat to public safety and security on the homeland. Specifically, we expect the threat of, threat environment in the United States over the next year will remain high due to a confluence of factors. These factors include violent extremist responses to domestic, socio political developments, and the 2024 election cycle.  Concurrently, adversarial states are Intent on sowing distrust in our institutions, as well as confusion and division in our communities through their maligned influence campaigns, with some actors seeking to boost these efforts during the 2024 election cycle.  These state actors will violate our rule of law and undermine freedom of speech in their efforts to suppress dissidents living in the United States.  So what, what it's, What the conversation is that they're having there is like, Oh, it's these violent extremists. It's these foreign adversaries. It's these terrorists out there. And over here,  terrorists that are sowing dis sowing, uh, distrust in our institutions. No.  No, you know, what's sowing distrust in our institutions, the lying  that's happened over the last four years, you know, what's sowing distrust in our institutions, the continued corruption, and the continued crossover between corporatism and politics, you know, you know, what's sowing distrust in our system, how almost every single one of the high level people in our our government right now are going to find themselves a high level executive position at the organizations that funded them, whether they're foreign or international. Or domestic to use their terms,  right? They're going to, their son's going to be on the Chinese energy board or Ukrainian oil board. Oh yeah. Look at Biden and Pelosi and all of these, these individuals who are powerful, powerful people in our government who have their children on the boards of foreign companies that are state run companies.  By our adversaries. Maybe that's what's destroying this, this, this sowing distrust in the institutions. Maybe it's your lack of response to the  terrible situations that it happened in Lahaina or in North Carolina or in Florida.  Maybe it's your lack of care surrounding the inflation that's happening. Maybe it's one of those things. Maybe that's what's sowing distrust is that you're distrustful.  Not the fact that foreign and domestic violent extremists have thoughts on political ideologies.  So  there's that summary. Let's move on.  Um, so it says that, uh, and actually we should probably go to the bottom here because what, one thing that I found to be unique in this document is that they, in the national advisory, the national terrorist advisory bulletins, they used to say the full words.  What you'll find in this document is they use all of these acronyms to try and make it so that you can't screenshot this and post it without context. So, So what you'll see is there's these DVE, the HVEs, the FTOs, the,  all of these specific  acronyms. So I'm going to show you first what those acronyms mean, and then we'll go back to the portion that I just had up there for you.  And here they are. Okay. Definitions and contextual notes. An FTO is a forest, uh, forest, is a foreign terrorist or terrorist organization. So FTO, foreign terrorists.  DVE.  Domestic violent extremist. Okay. So let's look at the definition of that, which it says is an individual. So a domestic violent extremist, a DVE is an individual based and operating primarily within the United States or its territories without direction or inspiration  from a foreign domestic or foreign terrorist group or other foreign power who seeks to further political or social goals wholly, or in part through unethical law or unethical acts, unlawful acts. Oh my gosh. I'm sorry. Early in the morning, unlawful acts of force or violence, the mere advocacy of political and social positions, political activism, or use of strong language and rhetoric or generalized philosophic embrace of violent tactics alone does not constitute violent extremism. It may be constitutionally productive, maybe. Oh, you don't you think that the advocacy of political and social positions or political activism or use of strong rhetoric.  Yeah, that is absolutely protected under the Constitution.  Maybe constitutionally protected. DVEs can fit within one or multiple categories of ideological motivation and can span a broad range of groups or movements.  INA.  Utilizes this term synonymously with domestic terrorist.  So your, the mere advocacy may be constitutionally protected, but we're still going to label you as a violent extremist, and they may still use the word domestic terrorist.  So, this is important when we go back and we look at the conversations that we're having. Now, when we look at HVE, HVE is homegrown violent extremist. It's a person with, of any citizenship who has lived or operated primarily in the United States or its territories who advocates, is engaged in, or is preparing to engage in ideologically motivated terrorist activities, including providing support to terrorism. In furtherance, Of political or social objectives promoted by a foreign terrorist organization. Um,  but is acting independently of direction by a foreign terrorist organization.  HVS are distinct from traditional domestic terrorists who engage in unlawful acts of violence to intimidate civilian populations or attempt to influence domestic policy without direction or influence from a foreign act.  Okay. So they're saying these people have opinions, right? They haven't the word violent violence. is not in any of these things. Like there's, um, who engage in unlawful acts of violence to intimidate civilian populations. Okay. So there's one mention of violence  throughout that entire definition. You do not have to be violent. You do not have to be extremist. You have to hold an ideology that they don't like, which may be constitutionally protected to fall into one of these two categories.  Now it also defines, it also defines conspiracy theorist.  Or a conspiracy theory.  So Homeland Security defines a conspiracy theory, which is defined as a subset of narratives in which the ultimate cause of an event is believed to be due to a malevolent plot by multiple actors working together or as an effort  to explain some event or practice by reference to the event. To the mechanizations of powerful people who attempt to conceal their role, or at least until their aims are accomplished as per the national counterterrorism innovation technology and education center, a DHS center of excellence. DHS does not hold a position on the veracity of the claims associated with these theories.  So what they're saying is if you believe. There's any number of group of people who is trying to conceal their identity  that has worked together to cause an event that is a conspiracy theory.  And we can write you off and we can put you into a document where we can now put you on a list.  Crazy. This is their definition of a conspiracy theory. So if you hold the belief that any number of people, three, four, five powerful people  did anything to cause an event  and then tried to conceal their position during that event, which has happened multiple  Always, forever, in history, in every event,  then you are now considered a citizen. A conspiracy theorist.  And now that becomes important, right? This isn't just conspiracy theory in your bio, right?  Uh, this is important because then they can utilize this document and say, here's how we're going to weaponize the department of justice against you.  So now that we have that background, let's go back up to the document.  All right. So.  Terrorism.  So it says that foreign, so there's some foreign stuff or some domestic stuff. I'm just going to walk you through line by line in the document. Um, some of the foreign stuff, it says foreign terrorist organization inspired homegrown violent extremists. So inspired by terrorists, but homegrown will remain high,  right? So homegrown violent extremists. The threat will continue to be characterized primarily by lone offenders or small cells motivated to violence by a combination of racial, religious, gender,  or anti government grievances, conspiracy theorists, and personalized factors. We are particularly concerned about the likelihood of violent motivation by developing domestic and global events,  including the 2024 election cycle and the ongoing Israel Hamas conflict. So what you have to notice there is when they say conspiracy theorists. And then they say the election cycle, right? If you say anything about the election, not being fair.  not being right, not being accurate,  you can now be a labeled a homegrown violent extremist, because that can be tied to some bigger plot, even if you have no violent actions,  because what you have to understand about the document and why this document is important is because what they're essentially establishing is the ground rules for their organization,  the ground rules for if you say this, right, if you say this thing,  if you say this,  We think you're going to this. So we're going to do this, right? If you do, if you think they're say this,  we think that you're going to do this. And so we can do all of this to stop you, even though you didn't do any of it yet,  preemptively or reasonable belief, right?  Words are important.  So when you understand that they're, they can use any, anything within their power, if they can  Label you as this DVE or HVE, the Domestic Violent Extremist, or Homegrown Violent Extremist. The second that you say anything about one of these things, right? Global events, like the election cycle, right? Talking about things like conspiracy theorists, where people plot to do bad things, like they always have.  gender ideology, racial,  political, right? I like how they include gender in there. Like, oh, okay, let's use the Department of Justice and lethal force to protect the trans people because their sexual kinks want them to dress up.  All right.  Moving on, a number of violent extremists embrace multiple, sometimes competing motivations, challenging our ability to identify their political, their potential targets in advance because their pre attack statements online are often unrelated or only loosely related to the targets they ultimately choose. So what they're saying there is  If you're say anything about anything that we don't like, we can then correlate it back to this entire list of things and say that, oh, because you say you don't agree with women in men's sports, you're now going to enact in a terrorist attack on Jewish populations,  right? So if this, then this, so we can this. Right? If you say something about gender ideology, we believe that you fall into this potential category to do some Jewish violent, or attack on, violent attack on Jewish groups. So we can then do all of this in between to surveil you.  It says, Between September 23 and September 24, or July 2024, DVEs driven by anti government, racial, or gender related motivations have conducted at least four attacks in the homeland, one of which resulted in a death. Like, do you know how much government overreach we're getting for one death here?  Between September and July  one death, and they're going to weaponize.  The Department of Defense,  U. S. law enforcement at least disrupted seven additional DVE plots, two HVE plots, and again, I'm not saying that this stuff doesn't happen, I'm not saying that they shouldn't exist, I'm not saying that they shouldn't be able to  maybe not even surveil people domestically, right, that wasn't what was supposed to be allowed until the Patriot Act, I'm not saying that they shouldn't  be able to do their job though, and their job is to figure out where is a terrorist attack going to come from, and there has been domestic terrorist attacks. I'm  Most of the domestic terrorist attacks have been against Donald Trump.  not against  literally any other government official.  So unless they're speaking about, Oh, if you know, I highly doubt they're using this to surveil liberals with blue hair at, you know, some furry event. No, it's, it's being weaponized against the right.  But again, they have to be able to do their job. I'm sure there are, you know, there's been like the Boston bombing and there's been other historical events that I would love for these people to stop and and nothing against these people if they're surveilling me right now for talking about furries,  but like I know you got to do your job. I know people who have been in positions in these organizations,  and I appreciate what you do,  but when it's weaponized against the American people  for nothing other than posing a political posting a political opinion online.  So that you can utilize these overreaching government tools  to then surveil their private life that is not constitutional,  right? The Patriot Act is not constitutional.  And now this type of document allows you to overreach beyond what should be allowed  for, for a complete Orwellian government. State of government.  So if you say anything about this category of things, a list of probably 100 words that they have in the Department of Defense and Homeland Security, if you say any word like this, it triggers AI to pick up your profile. And now they have you on a list somewhere. And now they can use the Patriot Act to listen into your phone microphone and use AI to scrape your conversations and search your conversations for any of the jokes that you make with your wife in private.  It shouldn't be a lot,  right? You should still be able to do your job. And I think you can still do your job by monitoring it. with a sniper rifle and not an RPG, right? Or a nuke, essentially, right? You don't need to monitor millions and millions and millions of Americans to find the one that's sitting there posting online talking about how they want to  enact some violent act on a school or shoot up some mosque, right? Like, You don't need all of that. You don't need that power to do that.  Now, let's look at some other portions here.  As we move down this document.  The next portion I'd like to point out is biological. So this is just interesting to me over the last year foreign and domestic extremists online expressed interest in using DNA modification. So okay, so so I've heard this one several times recently, this is a very recent event. And this is something that I've talked about before, when you've used 23 and me,  you are giving your DNA to a entity that will then sell that data to foreign and domestic.  Governments  or companies like BlackRock, right? Now what they can do with that DNA, the technology has been devised. Iran has tried this. China has tried this. There's evidence there. There's been, uh, I was listening to a Senator yesterday talk about on the Sean Ryan podcast, how China has been trying to develop a biological weapon that only attacks  childbearing age individuals.  So here's another example of that in this document where it says, We expect threat actors to continue to explore emerging and advanced technologies to aid their efforts in developing and carrying out chemical and biological attacks. Over the last year, this document says, Foreign and domestic extremists online expressed interest in using DNA modification to develop biological weapons to target specific individuals.  So if you want women between the age of this and this, if you want certain ethnic minorities, if you want certain or majorities, you want a certain gender, you want a certain age group, you want a certain background, whatever it is, you can splice DNA down and see, Hey, I want this new COVID quote unquote, but much more deadly to attack men who are fighting age between the ages of 18 and 45  decimate the men between 15 to 45.  They can do that. And that's what this document is outlining here. So when you're giving your DNA to these organizations, they can even target it down to the individual,  right? They could release some massive flu virus,  and they want to target 15 DNA strands  and have it be lethal against, A hundred people, 150 people, they can manipulate that  virus to do that.  It also says, we also remain concerned about the potential for threat actors to use unmanned aircraft systems in chemical and biological attacks due to the continued advancement of UAS technology and the growing availability of UAS. So saying that people are going to use drones to drop these types of things.  All right, now it moves into influence operations and transnational repression.  All right, so Russia will likely continue to use traditional state sponsored media. For example, over the past year, Russian influence actors have amplified stories regarding U. S. migration flows to stoke discord in the United States. Like no,  that wasn't Russia, that was you. Like maybe this should be talking about how the Harris and Biden campaign let in 22 million illegals.  Maybe we should be talking about that being the reason that these stories are amplified, not Russia.  We should be having that conversation. You shouldn't be mad at the messenger, right? Even if they're amplifying those conversations, be like, Hey, look at how  ridiculous the United States is for letting in all of these terrorists. We're not going to do that.  It's just funny that to me that they want to point out these foreign countries acting like, Oh, we didn't do anything wrong. It's because they, they said it. They're mad. They're just trying to make you mad at us. It's like playing the, the, you know, your parents are divorced, right? Your parents are divorced. And one parent's like, Hey,  you know, like mom, mom won't let me, you know, I don't know where I'm going with that, but you see the point  you get the idea. It's not Russia's fault that you let in 22 million illegals. It's your fault,  and they just pointed it out, so maybe, just don't do that.  This is over the last year, Iranian information operations have focused on weakening U. S. public support of Israel and Israel's response to Iranian information operations have focused on weakening U. S. public support of Israel and Israel's response to October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks. These efforts have included leveraging ongoing protests regarding the conflict, posing as online protests.  And encouraging protests prior to the 2020 U. S. presidential election, Iran attempted to amplify divisive narratives to incite violence, influence the U. S. electorate and degrade trust in electoral processes. And like, yeah, for sure. They're probably doing that. And so is Israel,  right? Go check out AIPAC. Maybe we should be talking about AIPAC in here and their influence on, on domestic senators and congressmen and.  Presidents, dare I say.  Uh, another one that I found to be interesting here was that they talk about the People's Republic of China and their disinformation campaigns. Hmm. And it says that they seek to exploit U. S. disasters. So the U. S. Homeland Security is saying that China's the reason  China is exploiting U. S. disasters just as it did when it blamed Hawaii wildfires on U. S. military activity and may also reduce trust in the U. S. institutions and officials and dissuade survivors to pursue legal recovery or federal recovery response and support. Yeah. I don't think that it was  just China. China. Pointing out that direct energy weapons are real and could have been the result of, or could have resulted in Lahaina.  I don't think it's just China pointing out that we have weather modification, that there's literal patents on Google that you can search on all of this technology. Like,  again, stop trying to blame the foreign entity for something that isn't real.  is very real and a possibility.  It also says the Department of Justice indicted seven Chinese based Chinese nationals for their involvement in a PRC backed criminal hacking group targeting U. S. based critics, businesses, and political officials in malicious cyber operations intended to intimidate and silence dissidents and steal from their businesses.  All right, uh, moving on.  Okay, so this is probably the most interesting part of this here. And this talks about threat is likely to focus on the election cycle, right? This is all about the election.  Now, some of the most interesting parts of this, I'll read through for you that I highlighted. Again, if you want this document, as I highlighted it and all of my annotations, you can just head over to my Instagram. Once this is posted, you'll be able to request it from my comment section. All right. So one of the first things here is that, uh, let's just read it from the top so we can get into this better. Part of the paragraph, our electoral processes are an attractive target for threat actors, and we expect many will seek to influence the 2024 election cycle. While some others may seek to access or interfere with election systems, while law enforcement is still investigating their motives behind the apparent assassination attempts on a former US president. These incidents highlight the magnitude of the threat surrounding the election cycle.  Now, here we go. Some Domestic violence, some domestic violent extremists, particularly those voted motivated by anti government or partisan issues will likely view a wide range of targets  indirectly and directly associated with elections as viable targets for violence with the intent of instilling fear among voters, candidates, and election workers. What would be the means to that? Like what would be the end there? Why would they do that? Why, if you're an anti government or  if you're motivated by partisan issues. Well, that's the more important one, right? Anti government or partisan issues, right? If you're anti government, we can now  say that, Oh, you're probably going to attack polling areas, right? You're probably going to go to the local  polling area and, and bomb them or whatever, right? You're probably going to do that if you're anti government.  Like,  no.  No, I think you're just bad at your job, in that  federalism is generally not helpful, and all it's done is caused a bloated taxation system and leached from American citizens and given all of our money to foreign entities to fight wars that we shouldn't be in.  That's why I'm anti government, and I'm not going to attack anybody as a result. But just because I state that opinion, they can now put me on a list to then say that, oh, I'm going to go attack a polling area. Like,  so stupid. Uh, some DVEs, particularly those motivated by anti government or partisan issues, will likely view a wide, okay, we just said that, um,  instilling fear among voters, candidates, and election workers, as well as disrupting election processes leading up to or after the November election. So leading up to, And after like, we're not putting any end to this, right? There's no cycle here. We're like, maybe for the next three to four months, we should be highly focusing on people who say that the government's bad at their job,  or doesn't have the right motivations.  Nope,  door after  foreign state affiliated cyber to actors and cyber criminals, almost certainly. So this is this one I found really interesting too, because they point out the fact that people are going to try to, like state affiliated cyber actors and cyber criminals, and they're  are most likely going to try to change votes using technology, hack into the voting systems, and change votes. But then they say something which I find to be hilarious here too. So foreign state affiliated cyber actors and cyber criminals almost certainly will view network infrastructure that supports US elections as attractive targets. However,  there was no reporting to suggest that foreign adversary targets of such systems have ever prevented any eligible voter from casting a ballot.  Compromise the integrity of any ballots, cast or disrupted the ability to tabulate votes or transmit election results in a timely manner,  right? So they're definitely going to target.  These polling stations. They're definitely going to try to hack in and change votes, but there's no evidence ever that that's ever occurred ever to anyone ever. We promise,  right?  So what they're stating there is like, again, laying the groundwork. They're saying that  almost certainly,  almost certainly  will target  the network infrastructure that supports elections to try and change votes, but then they follow that up with There was no reporting, however, to suggest that foreign adversary targeting of such systems has ever prevented any eligible voter ever from casting a ballot, or compromise the integrity of the, because if they say, this has happened, we know what's happened, they've changed votes, we know they've changed votes,  then what? Right? Like, then what? Then we know the election system is compromised, and they can't say that, but what they can say is that we know for certain  They're going to target this and try to hack into it and try to change votes.  But there's no evidence ever that it's ever happened ever, right? But almost certainly they're going to try to do it.  Found that one to be interesting.  All right, moving on. It says, in particular, anti government, anti authority DVEs, many of whom likely will be inspired by partisan policy grievances or conspiracy theories will pose the most significant threat. So this is under the guise. So it says we expect the DVEs to post the most significant threat to government officials, voters, elections related personnel and infrastructure, including polling places. So ballot dropbox locations, voter registration sites, campaign events, political party offices, and vote counting sites in particular anti government. Like if you're anti government, you're not trying to stop people from voting. You're not trying to  blow up a,  a dropbox for voted, you know, like for votes.  You're not.  You're just not participating. I'm not playing this game. The game's stupid. It's, it's all rigged, right?  But again, they have to throw that in there. So if you believe that people conspire, right, conspiracy theories, or you believe that the government's not good at what they do, and this may be too large,  Any one of those things, you pose the most significant threat.  We have also recently observed a rise in disruptive tactics, targeting election officials, like those observed in past election cycles, including hoax, bomb threats, swatting, doxing, and mailing  white powder letters, intended to instill fear. Like I'm not saying that doesn't happen. I'm sure that does happen. I'm sure there's some pieces of shit that will try to, I don't know, intimidate voters not to vote,  whatever.  But the fact that they're calling out anybody who believes that a small or large group will conspire and conceal their identity. To do something that you wouldn't want them to do as the American public.  Now you're a conspiracy theorist. And if you believe the government is bad at what they do. If you've heard my bowling alley story when I was in the military, they are generally bad at what they do. Uh, you know, and I've heard this too, do you know who's not bad at what they do? The intelligence agencies. They're the ones who hire the Harvard graduates and Oxford alumni and MIT this and all those are, they come off as very stupid when they put out those secret service agents that looked like they did when Trump was there. But that was on purpose.  Right, the people that are actually in the Department of Defense, at the highest levels of these three letter agencies, they're not unintelligent. They're not ignorant. They're not stupid.  Right?  But,  most of the government is. Right. It's not all the DMV, but a lot of it's the DMV,  uh, online users and forms frequently frequented by some DVS have increasingly called for violence linked to the 2024 election cycle and seek to promote violence  in response to politically and socially disruptive topics like immigration, abortion rights, and LGBTQIA issues or significant current events.  Let's talk about that one.

I had been a sergeant for about 6 years before my agency sent me to my very first leadership class. I didn't know what to expect and honestly, I thought it was going to be a waste of time. I mean I had been an informal leader on night shift for years as the old guy and the FTO. When they promoted me to sergeant, they obviously didn't think leadership was important because they didn't bother to send me to any training. So, I wasn't very interested. This story could have had a very different ending, but the leadership training they did send me to was put on by Bill Westfall.Bill Westfall is an amazing instructor and one that really lit the fire under me to be an effective leader.Since then, I began reading every leadership book I could get my hands on, from historical works to books by business leaders. I also took as many leadership classes as I could find, a few of them I took on my own dime and my own time. So, when I tell you my guest on this episode is one of the very best teachers in leadership, I'm not kidding.Jack Enter has been associated with the field of criminal justice since 1972 when he began his career as a law enforcement officer. Since that time, he has worked as a street police officer, detective, vice/narcotics investigator, manager, and as the administrator of a law enforcement agency in the suburbs of Atlanta. Jack obtained his Ph.D. in 1984 and has served as a professor and administrator in the university setting and served as one of the planners of the security component of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. He has lectured throughout the United States and abroad on Leadership as well as Profiling Interpersonal Violence and The Future of Crime and Policing. If we are going to change the culture of this profession it must start with those that are entering it and the first person they come in contact with to impact them is their FTO. The role the  FTO plays is life defining for the newly hired officer. Getting this right can not be left to chance. Living in Buford, GA, Jennie shares her compelling story of eight years as a former officer, reflecting on a time when K9 wasn't part of her life. She introduces Barron, her canine companion acquired at 10 weeks old, now an integral part of her world at 2.5 years. Diagnosed with PTSD in 2013, Jennie's narrative unfolds with the question: What came first, Wounded Blue or Barron? The episode explores the challenges she faced, including a colleague's tragic death two days into FTO, leading to a profound moment of denial and subsequent intervention by FTO and Dr. Ginger. Jennie openly discusses her coping mechanisms, humor in particular, and navigates personal struggles, including a divorce, TBI, and a shoulder injury incurred while clearing a call. A wake-up call from her chief and deputy, dropping off business cards without follow-up, prompted reflection on life's worth. In a raw and vulnerable revelation, Jennie shares her darkest moment in 2013, contemplating suicide until a friend's timely question, "Are you okay?" sparked a turning point. The episode traces her evolution, culminating in the formation of a training initiative in August 2018, impacting over 14,000 officers nationwide. The conversation highlights the reactive nature of peer support and emphasizes its necessity starting at the leadership level. Drawing inspiration from Simon Sinek, Jennie poses the crucial question: Can you influence leaders? Addressing complexities within law enforcement, she references her book, "I Think I Love a Cop," and reveals her personal resolution to help others. The episode concludes with a poignant question: What can I do for you? For those seeking connection, Jennie can be reached via email or Facebook, and Barron's adventures can be followed on Instagram. In her final words, Jennie extends a lifeline, urging anyone in need to reach out. Wounded Blue provides a 24-hour helpline for support. #LEOFirstPodcast #developthepolice #WoundedBlue #Survivor

Cameras and healthcare tend to not really mix very well, especially when it comes to me just running around my cell phone camera. So that's definitely been a major roadblock in kind of the day of life kind of stuffMichael Jamin:
You're listening to. What the hell is Michael Jamin talking about? I'll tell you what I'm talking about. I'm talking about creativity, I'm talking about writing, and I'm talking about reinventing yourself through the arts.Michael Jamin:
Hey everyone, it's Michael Jamin. Welcome back to another episode of my show, which I've rebranded as the Michael Jamon Show, because I want to make sure that there's more me in every mention of the show. And as you know, mostly I've spoken about, I've interviewed screenwriters, people, I've worked with directors, actors, and now after doing this for two years, I want to open it up to more people. We're just doing interesting things and there's a whole universe I don't know about, and so I'm learning about, and my next guest is going to teach us a little about that. His name is Jack Raya. He's the host of What's Good, 2, 4, 7. He's a big talker, so we're going to learn all about that. Jack, welcome. Thank you for joining me.Jack Raia:
Thanks for having me on, Michael. I really appreciate the opportunity.Michael Jamin:
Yeah. So let me tell everyone a little about you. So as far as I can tell, maybe I'm wrong, you're an EMT, you're in New York, right? Where in New York are you?Jack Raia:
I'm on Long Island in Nas County, long Island.Michael Jamin:
Interesting. My nephew's an E, he's a paramedic, actually. So I know a little about that word world, but you started, you have a very popular channel on TikTok where basically you act out, for the most part, you kind of act out scenes of what it's like to be an EMT. Am I right?Jack Raia:
Yeah. Yeah. I categorized it as EMS, sketch comedy, I guess is what I've labeled it.Michael Jamin:
And then what inspired you to start all this?Jack Raia:
So it was honestly a series of coincidences that got me into TikTok. The first instance was back in the summer of 2020, a friend of mine just posted a random video on TikTok, and it was this new app that I wasn't even on yet. It was kind of labeled the app that's just for middle school girls to do dances on. Right. No one really knew what it was yet.Michael Jamin:
That's exactly right. That's what I thought it was. Yeah, right.Jack Raia:
So my buddy posted a video, it was lighting off fireworks or something dumb, and the video blew up. The algorithm just picked it up, and it ended up getting a couple million, I think over 3 million views or something like that. And my buddy had zero followers on TikTok. So that was the first instance of like, wow, this whole algorithm base for you page is like, holy crap, I guess it works. So then that summer I was like, all right, well, I guess I'll give it a shot. So I was the captain lifeguard at the time, and because of Covid that summer, we had to figure out a way to test the rookie lifeguards, drill them on saves without making physical contact, which is a little bit strange, but it's the way it ended up working. So I came up with the idea of having them save traffic cones. I was throwing traffic cones into the deep end, and I posted a video of one of those drills, and it blew up just like my buddies did. So I went from zero followers and zero views to 6 million something views and 11,000 followers. So that was the first instance of like, wow, this level of attention is so easy and addicting that I think I'm going to give this app a little bit of a shot. ButMichael Jamin:
Do you have other aspirations? I mean, you got a real job, you have a career.Jack Raia:
Oh, yeah, of course. But given how I discovered the algorithm, I was like, you know what? Maybe I can do some other stuff on here. So I was experimenting with a bunch of different types of videos and characters. I used to do an Eminem character, like the rapper, Eminem Burns his finger on the stove, just a bunch of crap that I was just making in my free time. But then that following school year, a buddy of mine started doing these POV style skits, which was, I hadn't had any exposure to until I saw it on TikTok. So my buddy started doing APOV frat guy comes up to you at the bar, or POV, your Italian dad, or something like that. And at first we were like, dude, what are you doing? It's an app for just posting random crap and doing other stuff. Why are you putting yourself on there like that? But he just didn't care, and he just kept making his videos, trying to make each one better than the last. And I watched my friend one day, he had 10,000 followers and 50, a hundred, and now he's got over a million, and he moved out to la Oh, wow. And he really did it. So I watched him just not care what other people were thinking and just be consistent. And I was like, all right, well, maybe I could do this whole POB skip thing.Michael Jamin:
But your friend wants to be an actor, right?Jack Raia:
Yeah. Right.Michael Jamin:
Do you want to act as well?Jack Raia:
I mean, I would love the opportunity, definitely. My first love is definitely being an EMT and working in the S field. I have a private ambulance company job on Long Island nine one system, and I also work for an event staffing company that does everything from fashion shows to concerts to music festivals and stuff like that. So I really love doing that stuff, but I've realized through all these coincidences how lucrative social media especially TikTok can be. So I guess that's really all culminated to what I'm really doing here.Michael Jamin:
Well, tell me then, how do you monetize on TikTok?Jack Raia:
The main way is you build up enough of an audience to get brand deals. That's the way that pays the most, at least for most people.Michael Jamin:
Are you doing that?Jack Raia:
Yeah. Yeah. So the most recent, I guess notable one I had was for a video game company called Supercell that makes an iPhone game called Clash of Clans. So actually, they posted a contract through the app. So there's a creator marketplace on TikTok, and you can see different companies and scroll through and see they're offering different rates for different videos. And so I applied for this one through Supercell, and the objective was to use one of their sounds, which TikTok is pretty popular for. So when you open their app, clash of Clans, there's a pretty distinct sound that you're opening the game. So I just kind of figured I could work it humorously into an EMT skit, and it ended up doing really well.Michael Jamin:
Now are they giving you a lot of notes? Do you have to go back and forth and tell 'em what your ideas?Jack Raia:
It really depends. Every company has different wants and specifications when it comes to doing the brand deals. Some are super relaxed and they let the creator just like, Hey, do your thing, we trust you. But some others are like to nitpick and stuff like that.Michael Jamin:
But you must be worried you, you can't do that a lot because then suddenly you're the commercial channel. Right?Jack Raia:
Exactly. So you kind of got to pick and choose which ones you want to do and when there are other avenues though, the Creator fund is something I get questions about a lot. So based on the certain amount of views you get, it'll pay out a couple cents per thousand views or something like that.Michael Jamin:
Are you doing that as well?Jack Raia:
So they just changed it actually. They just released a beta program where now there's a much higher payout rate for videos that are over one minute long. So I'm kind of screwed because a lot of my videos are 30 to 50 seconds long, so I could try to stretch 'em out, but I feel like the quality of the video might take a hit at that point. But there's some people out there that they have a hundred thousand followers or something like that, and it's just them spewing their thoughts out into TikTok, and they post four or five times a day of them just talking or giving their opinion on stuff. And all these videos are minute, two minutes long, and there's people making 10, $15,000 a month off just this new beta creator program. Now,Michael Jamin:
Do you think it limits your reach, though, if you're on?Jack Raia:
So I think it has to honestly, and I'm confident in saying that TikTok is the least predictable social media platform out there. We're all at the mercy of the algorithm here, and it seems to be pretty random and definitely hard to predict. So some stuff happens to blow up, some stuff doesn't. I'll be super confident in a video that I make, and I'll be excited to post it, and it'll flop in comparison to other videos where sometimes I'll just post for the sake of consistency and just get in content out and, oh, crap, this one just blew up. All right.Michael Jamin:
What is your schedule? How often do you post?Jack Raia:
So when I started and I was really trying to give it a go, I was super adamant about sticking to one a day. No matter what, I don't care if I love the video, I just have to force people to see me every single day when I was really trying to grow. So the quantity over quality method works pretty well when you're trying to start out, but now I'm at the point where I try to be more selective and I try to make sure that video is up to standard, if you will. So I don't really stick to a hard schedule. It's more if I have a good idea and it comes to me and I'm able to flesh it out and I have an opportunity to film it, then great. But if I don't, it's like, ah, didn't get one today.Michael Jamin:
And then how long do you spend on each idea? Do you write it down? What's yourJack Raia:
Pre-production? Right. So my particular, I guess, strategy is 95% of what you hear me say on TikTok has been written down. At a certain point as I go through it, maybe stuff gets switched around or whatever, but the general premise, and I guess the pacing of the skid is totally all written down and stuff like that. A big part of my production is actually my little brother who's my cameraman, and
He's got a real knack behind the lens. I like to tell him he's, he's good at being able to keep me in frame the right way, which all of my videos have that banner title over the top. So sometimes we have to restart because my head clips into it too much and stuff like that. But other than that, it's just me and an iPhone camera. TikTok has given us the ability, or really social media in general to create content that can have a wide reach with not really a lot of equipment. So super grateful for that.Michael Jamin:
On a given day, how much time do you devote to a video?Jack Raia:
SometimesMichael Jamin:
Zero, writing it, producing it, and then posting it?Jack Raia:
Well, I've definitely gotten faster at it. So when I would start the whole process, start to finish from writing the script to getting that final take, putting a filter on it and posting it be up to two hours, sometimes in the beginning, an hour or two hours easily. But now, if I have a good seed to build a skid around, whether it's a good punchline or a premise that I like, that I can kind of mold the rest of the video around, once I get that down, the whole filming process, 15, 20 minutes for me now, sometimes 30 minutes, depending on where I am, I live next to the train tracks. So when a train goes by, it'll totally ruin my take. Or sometimes I got to wait for the neighbor to stop mowing his lawn and stuff like that. But when I'm able to just film at the pace, I'd like to film probably about 20, 30 minutes to do the filming now as opposed to an hour before.Michael Jamin:
Right. That's so interesting. And then how has this benefited you in ways that were unexpected? What has come from this?Jack Raia:
So by far, it's the amount of people that'll reach out to me through Instagram dms, or even in my comments section, telling me that my content has inspired them to take an EMT course. Oh, wow, okay. I've even had some pretty moving conversations with people where it's like, Hey, man, just got off the truck after 24 hours. Thanks for bringing me a smile. It's nice to be seen, is what people have told me. Nice to be seen shedding a little bit of light and humor on some of the grittier sides of the EMS world. So people have noticed that, and I'm like, wow, I didn't even really mean to have an impact on people like that, but I have been. So that's been really, really cool to do.Michael Jamin:
Well, I think people love e mt workers. I mean, you're there to save lives.Jack Raia:
It's kind of hard to hate on sometimes. Yeah.Michael Jamin:
But okay, but do you get haters? You must, oh yeah, ofJack Raia:
Course, of course.Michael Jamin:
And how does that affect you, and what do you do about it?Jack Raia:
So I'm thankfully at the point now where I have a large enough audience where if someone leaves me a hate comment, someone that likes my content or is following me will go to bat for me in the comment section. I definitely don't entertain trying to argue with people in the comments or dms or stuff like thatMichael Jamin:
That, do you block them or no,Jack Raia:
Not really, honestly, because not really. Sometimes getting a little bit of controversy in the comments and people arguing back and forth on each other can be good for engagement, unfortunately. But I've come to realize that no matter what kind of content you're creating, and no matter how good you are at it, there's people that are going to have negative things to say, people crap talk. Everyone from Tom Brady to the best comedians in the world, the best musicians, best artists, writers, it doesn't matter. You're going to get hate if you're putting yourself out there. People like to spread negativity for some reason. So it's just part of what comes with being, putting yourself out on the internet. So I don't really let it get to me too much.Michael Jamin:
That's it. But it's interesting that you don't block them. You might be more mature than I'm sometimes I just don't want to hear it. Just, oh, goodbye, goodbye. I don't want to look at the negativity.Jack Raia:
Thankfully, I don't get too much. I definitely got a little bit more in the beginning than I do now, and I know TikTok is pretty good at censoring a lot of stuff sometimes too good. Honestly, I've left comments that were meant to be positive on other people's pages, but it'll get flagged for being negative or insulting or something like that. So a certain percentage of negative comments won't even show up. I won't even know that they're there. But the ones that I do get, it's like, it's just part of it. It's like you got to take the good with the bad a little bit. Some of them are funny, honestly, some of them are pretty clever.Michael Jamin:
You respond to, it sounds like you respond to a lot of people. Do you respond, even kind comments, you respond to them, everyone?Jack Raia:
Yeah. Yeah. I'm definitely less responsive in my comment section than I am for my dms. If someone wants to reach out to me on Instagram and personally message me, I'm grateful for every time someone takes the time to reach out to me. I think it's crazy that people resonate with enough with what I'm creating to send me a message. I think that's crazy.Michael Jamin:
Yeah. Interesting.Jack Raia:

What the hell is Michael Jamin talking about? Here's a question I tend to ask people who are creators. Do you notice a difference between the kind of people commenting on TikTok versus let's say YouTube or Instagram?Jack Raia:
A hundred percent. There's almost like a generational gap between something like Instagram or TikTok. TikTok seems to be like the 25 and under Instagram seems to be the 18 to 35 or older. So the difference in humor and the difference in memes on each page is definitely different. And it's interesting that I'll post something on TikTok, it'll do well or comparatively will do well. And then once I load it into Instagram and I have that kind of Instagram mindset and that feel for that audience, I almost hesitate a little bit. I know that it's going to be perceived totally differently. There's a certain level of, I guess, being corny on TikTok that is being intentionally corny. They see the sarcasm in it, so it works on TikTok, but it doesn't come across that way on Instagram. So Instagram, it's just a different way that people view it. It's kind of strange, honestly.Michael Jamin:
And what about YouTube?Jack Raia:
So YouTube, I do put my stuff on there, but I don't really have enough of an audience on there to really get much engagement. I have two vlogs on there. I've made an attempt at the long form content, but it doesn't really compare to what I'm doing on TikTok and Instagram right now. I'd love to get my YouTube audience up in the numbers these days, but the only real comparisons I can make is TikTok, Instagram and Facebook are kind of the Holy Trinity of where I post my stuff and what I canMichael Jamin:
Describe as well. Now, was it difficult at first putting yourself out there? Was that hard for you? I know you were inspired by your friend, but still,Jack Raia:
It's crazy you say that because I look back at some of those older videos that I was making, and I have no idea how I had the balls to do that. I look at it now and I'm like, what was I thinking? How did I not care? I just kind of didn't, and I was kind of just enamored by seeing other people blow up on the app, especially my friend, and I was like, you know what? Screw it. Who caress?Michael Jamin:
And how long have you been doing this now?Jack Raia:
So the first time I ever posted on the app was summer of 2020. The first time I ever really tried to make POV skits and succeed that way was December, 2021, about a year and a half coming up on two years now. But it wasn't until last summer that I realized that this EMT character was what I was really going to try to stick with. So the wholeMichael Jamin:
Isn't that interesting that you naturally found your voice just by doing it over it? People struggle with that, and I kind of say the same. Just do something every day, and then you'll find your way, you'll find your voice. You'll just know what works and what doesn't work.Jack Raia:
I used to be super adamant about rotating my characters. I had success with a bartender character in the past and a bouncer. I've done a teacher, a lifeguard, a whole bunch of different stuff. And I used to be pretty adamant about, okay, I did my Gen Z cop today, so tomorrow I'm going to do the Gen Z professor, and then I'll do the lifeguard, and then I'll circle back around to the EMT character. But I got to a point where the only one that I really enjoyed doing and the one that I was the most motivated to create was the EMT character. Well,Michael Jamin:
Because that's the most authentic, that's who you are.Jack Raia:
Exactly. Right.Michael Jamin:
Yeah. You're playing a role,Jack Raia:
And I discovered how valuable it was to really focus in on a niche instead of doing this myriad of characters just being kind of labeled as that e mt guy on TikTok was pretty valuable toMichael Jamin:
How much of yourself, because you're doing sketches, and so this is a character that you've created. The character is based on yourself, but it's still a character, and you're still not showing all of us. You're not showing all of yourself. Right. And so what's the line and how did you decide on that line?Jack Raia:
I am someone that I found it much easier to play a character online than it was to naturally talk to the camera and stuff like that, which is definitely the opposite for other people. There's creators 2, 3, 10 times my size where they just hit record talk to the camera, and they have this big, beautiful, successful video. But I don't know, when it comes to my, I guess, authentic personality and putting it on TikTok, I kind of spin my tires in that regard.Michael Jamin:
Is it not comfortable for you or you don't want to?Jack Raia:
I dunno. When I go to try to do some authentic stuff like that, I don't even know what to talk about. I have no real inspiration on what the video should be about when it comes to these TikTok skits, I'll have that joke or that punchline. I'm like, oh, that's good. And then I can craft a video around it, and then I'm excited to film it. So I'm definitely not opposed to being authentic and showing my real personality on camera. I just don't really know what it would really do or be about. So maybe one day, butMichael Jamin:
Yeah, so interesting. And then, okay, so you mentioned that you're into, you would think about acting. You don't want to move to la. You're not that serious about it. You're open to it.Jack Raia:
Right. So the way I see it, I live in Long Island by train. I'm less than an hour outside of Manhattan. So any sort of opportunities in the entertainment industry, I feel like I could probably pursue in New York if they were to come about. But the idea of moving to LA and trying to jump with both feet into Hollywood, I guess, doesn't have as much as appeal to me as it does. Kind of just making my videos, working on the ambulance, working at a concert. I'm kind of liking what I'm doing instead of really trying to jump into one or the other.Michael Jamin:
I appreciate that. I mean, you're doing this to me. It seems like you have, it's the purest form, excuse me, purest form of expression. You're doing this, you want to be creative. This is your outlet.Jack Raia:
And the honest truth is I like being a content creator, but I love being an EMT. It's honestly, the unfortunate reality is that if I could make as much as a content creator as an EMT, I probably wouldn't be doing much of the content creator stuff. Obviously, like I said before, the attention super addicting and it's fun to get recognized and stuff like that. But if I could flip the payrolls, I would,Michael Jamin:
Well, let me ask you this. Why not do more actual day in the life where you got the camera, you're behind the wheel, the ambulance or whatever? Is it because you're not allowed toJack Raia:
Sort of? So I've done a little bit of that. I've able to, like I said, I have some vlogs on YouTube where I'm vlogging the work that I do as an EMT, but it's definitely much harder to do than if you were to do it with other jobs, with everything from HIPAA violations to if I were to deviate even one second or one minutia of my brain power to my phone or something like that while I'm in the ambulance at all, it's just not something you really want to get involvedMichael Jamin:
With. Yeah, I could see that. I mean, other than maybe cleaning the ambulance when it's parkedJack Raia:
Station, right? Yeah, no, no, no. I can see that. But cameras and healthcare tend to not really mix very well, especially when it comes to me just running around my cell phone camera. So that's definitely been a major roadblock in kind of the day of life kind of stuff.Michael Jamin:
Yeah, I can see that. I guess it's a naive question now that I ask that. Yeah,Jack Raia:
Yeah. But I've had some success, so it's not like it's impossible, but its definitely more difficult. So it's not really that much of a priority for me.Michael Jamin:
Creative. Are there creators or even famous people whose work you admire you were trying to emulate in your work?Jack Raia:
Yeah. I mean, there's other EMT creators or EMS creators or even just healthcare workers in general that create content on the app that I really like. One of 'em is the name's Fire department Chronicles. He's a bald dude that makes firefighter skits and he's the best in the business. He kills them.Michael Jamin:
Are you going to clap with him or no?Jack Raia:
I mean, maybe one day. I haven't reallyMichael Jamin:
Reached out to him that Okay, you don't know each other. Okay. It's great.Jack Raia:
He's got millions and millions ofMichael Jamin:
Followers. Well, you're getting up there. You're getting close to a million.Jack Raia:
Hopefully. I like to think I'm on my way. ItMichael Jamin:
Looks that way. Sure. And then you also sell merch. Are people buying? Are the people digging you?Jack Raia:
Yeah, a little bit. It's a work in progress. This is one of the shirts. It's just bankrupt the funeral home. So it's kind of a humorous situation where it's like, imagine if healthcare workers could do their job so impossibly well that no one was dying. So the funeral home is like, oh crap, we're out of customers here. We can't really afford to keep the lights on anymore. It's kind of, yeah,Michael Jamin:
It's a good message you got. It's positive. And I really admire you for putting yourself out there for just showing up. A lot of people are afraid to do that.Jack Raia:
Yeah, absolutely. I appreciate you saying that. My goal is to do something greater for the emergency services community down the road. I'm making a couple bucks off each T-shirt here now, but I have plans to really increase it. I'm collabing with a much larger Instagram page soon. So we want to sell everything from hats, patches, stickers, t-shirts, bags, everything under the sun, donate a portion of each sale, and really try to give back to the community that's given me this platform is definitely a goal of mine.Michael Jamin:
Well, I imagine you're becoming the face, you're becoming the face of EMT workers, at least in your area. I can only see good things coming from that in terms of raising your profile in the industry.Jack Raia:
Yeah. I'll have to agree with you there, for sure. Yeah.Michael Jamin:
Have others reached out to you? Other people in your line of work reached out to you and say, Hey, good for you for doing this? Or how do they react? Yeah,Jack Raia:
Yeah. I get a lot of really positive messages from other creators and just from other, Hey, I'm an EMT and wherever, wherever I really like your videos, man. One message that sticks out to me in particular was, it's probably last summer I got a message and it was, Hey, I'm an EMT instructor out of Iowa. My class loves your videos. We watch your videos as an icebreaker every morning before class. Holy crap. Really? The whole class.Michael Jamin:
That's really nice.Jack Raia:
That's when it really started to hit me that I'm really impacting other EMTs and paramedic stuff in here. I was like, wow, there's some real serious reach here.Michael Jamin:
Yeah. People don't realize that what you do actually makes a difference in some people's lives. It really does.Jack Raia:
And with that, there's definitely a little bit of responsibility. There's two aspects of my content that I'm kind of trying to clean up in the future a little bit. One of them being is the disheveled kind of inappropriate nature that my character exhibits a lot of the time, showing up with his boots untied, still tucking in his shirt, which kind of happens due to the nature of the job. Maybe you're on a 24 hour shift, you just woke up, you're drinking Red Bulls or doing whatever and would hate for that to influence a new or future EMT. I would hate for them to think that it's okay to do that because of the nature of the job.Michael Jamin:
When did you come to that realization now?Jack Raia:
Pretty recently. So I've started putting, or I've went back and put disclaimers on a lot of my videos. It does not represent correct practice. I'll have people nitpick what I'm doing in the comments and stuff and it hit me. It's like it is important to, obviously it's a comedy skip, but it is important to note like, Hey, this is not the way you're supposed to be doing things. I'm over here trying to make a couple people laugh. This is in no way, shape or form the way that you're supposed to conduct yourself.Michael Jamin:
That's an interesting realization that you're doing this for fun. And then you realized at some point you had a responsibilityJack Raia:
ExactlyMichael Jamin:
To the world really to not just to your coworkers, but in your profession, but to the world, which I don't think not everyone comes to that realization. Yeah, I wish more people did because what you put out there is important andJack Raia:
It will affect people, whether it's subconsciously or directly. It will start to influence the way people see this job. And that goes for whatever kind of content you're making. Another aspect that I'm going to try to clean up in the future is I don't want to deter people from calling 9 1 1 because they think they might get this EMT that comes in with attitude and doesn't want to be there and stuff like that. Some of the videos I make, I'll be coming through that front door and I'm just like, oh, this is a bull crap. Call my kind of rolling my eyes and I'm making jokes about the lack of severity of the situation and I would hate for someone to see one of my videos and think twice about calling 9 1 1. So it's definitely some stuff that I'm going to address in the future, but I feel like I'm ahead of the curve hopefully, so that it hasn't really gotten too far yet where there might be some crazy instance or something like that. But it's definitely something that's on my radar to kind of address.Michael Jamin:
Where do you think most of your followers are they being in the United States? I mean, I would assume,Jack Raia:
Honestly, I'm not sure. I can check my analytics and it can tell me where people are from. The most recent time I checked my most followed city was Chicago, coincidentally enough. So it was like Chicago, Phoenix, Austin, New York wasn't even really up there.Michael Jamin:
Isn't that interesting?Jack Raia:
Yeah. But there's definitely a lot of local people that have recognized me. When I started at my private ambulance company in February of this year and my first ride along, I showed up, I walked into the building and put my stuff down and immediately went on a call with of my field training officers. So obviously we're kind of in call mode, right? But once we transferred our patient care and everything like that, my FTO was like, you, that guy. I was like, probably. I'm probably the one you're thinking of.Michael Jamin:
Yeah. How funny. That must have been. Nice. So before we wrap up, I don't know, I'm very impressed by what you're putting out there, by what you're doing. You're simply a standup guy. What other advice do you give people who I don't know, who are interested in doing what you're doing? What else do you have to offer them?Jack Raia:
I think that consistency is probably the most important aspect of trying to be any type of a creator. Whether you're writing a blog, making POV skits or making music, anything like that. Kind of just forcing people to be exposed to your content through you just keep making it and posting it is probably the most important aspect. And if you can do that and just make an effort to make each one a little bit better than the last, it will start to compound.Michael Jamin:
And by consistency you mean once a day or what?Jack Raia:
It depends, honestly. So with me, it worked once a day. Back in the winter of 2021, I had a winter break from school, so I was like, you know what? I got nothing to do this break, but watch the Sopranos and make TikTok. So no matter what I'm doing, I'm going to make a TikTok every day. I don't care if I love it, I hate it, I'm going to post it. So that was that first little spike in followers that I got and I was like, this can probably work. I think I got it down here. ButMichael Jamin:
I think it's great that you're really, that you're sharing your profession, you're making it light, you're trying to entertain people and you're doing a little something, but you're raising your profile. I see just good things, good things coming from it.Jack Raia:
Yeah. I really appreciate it.Michael Jamin:
Yeah. Congratulations. Thank you for joining me again. I really appreciate it learning your story. My pleasure. Very interesting. No matter your business or industry, one thing is certain: You're always selling. This can be tricky because people generally don't like being sold to. And when we're desperate, they can smell us coming a mile away, and it's harder to close the deal. So, where does that leave us?  On the show today to talk to us about the “unspoken language of sales” is Craig Andrews. He's the mind behind Allies4Me and is an expert in helping companies attract strangers and convert them into high-paying customers. This is done by taking yourself OUT of sales mode and instead positioning yourself from a place of trust.  And how is trust built? With an irresistible FTO.  FTOs (first-time offers) - when done correctly - will build trust rapidly and create an environment where people want to buy.
