Well well well. The Wrist is finally here...or should I say, it's finally on streaming. Technically it's been around for like 5 months already and if you REALLY wanted to listen to it, you could've. NONETHELESS. To celebrate the more 'worldwide' release of the record, I wanted to get a real, tough-as-nails '60 minutes' style interview to hash out all the grittiness of it. How does one do that? You intentionally hire a hard-hitting interviewer to wrench the answers out of you like a police interrogation. Did I do that? Not really. I hired the very genial Thomas Erwin of Niagara Moon to do it, knowing he'd be kind and interesting in his engaging with me. AND HE WAS! So, enjoy what I like to call 'the definitive Fantastic Wrist interview'...

Dan and I bring on our first guest to help us break down an album! Jordan Prince makes infectious, fun and distinct indie-pop over in Munich, Germany - though he originally hails from New Orleans. The expatriate life seems to suit him wonderfully. He's also an excellent candidate to discuss the work of Mac DeMarco. There's no other indie rocker out there like the Mac. His hazy sound, tender songwriting, carefree vibe, meticulous use of tape and masterful guitarwork all come together for a truly impactful combo. How many new bands point to him as an influence? A lot - that's how many. http://www.jordanprincetunes.com/ Moondogs - use discount code "RUDI" at checkout to get 50% off any one item in the Niagara Moon store: www.niagaramoonmusic.com/store www.danbarracuda.com
With this lovely 2012 debut album, the British folk-soul gentleman Michael Kiwanuka a sublime, retro "back-to-basics" sound. With influences spanning many genres, Kimaya Diggs melds the folky acrobatics of Joni Mitchell, the jazz stylings of Ella Fitzgerald, the catchy soul of Lianne LaHavas, and yet has something you can't quite put your finger on that makes her entirely unique. Her mastery of her voice is the focal point of each performance, and a transfixing experience. Her debut album, Breastfed, is a chronicle of bittersweet growing pains, expansive and generous. Whether roaring along with reckless urgency or irreverently recounting painful memories, Breastfed wrangles the growing-up narrative in a boldfaced, darkly humorous way. Sun Parade's personal obsessions and projects range from British folk ballads to Motown; collectively their music is most influenced by the mutineers' pantheon — The Clash, Beastie Boys, Dr. Dog, Nirvana, The Beatles. Sun Parade has supported Lake Street Dive, Dr. Dog, Born Ruffians, and And The Kids. National Public Radio picked “Heart's Out” — the title track of the band's previous EP — for Songs We Love, and wrote that Sun Parade is “crafting the kinds of traditional guitar-pop songs that people might still be singing 50 years down the road.” Songs Featured: Cheer Up Braindrain http://thesunparade.com/ Subscribe on iTunes! Thedrifterluke, AKA Luke Abbott, is a folk singer-songwriter based in Seattle, WA. Following in the footsteps of influences like Bob Dylan and Jackson Browne, Thedrifterluke's songs incorporate old truisms from a unique and fresh perspective. The son of evangelical missionaries, Luke Abbott traveled frequently as a child, moving from California, Texas, Colorado, Japan, and New Mexico, eventually settling in Washington by age 9. He loved music from an early age singing bluegrass/gospel tunes with his family in church performance. By age 15, Luke began to focus more and more of his time to writing and creating original songs. With songs tackling ideas like addiction, faith, regret, expectation versus reality, and the seasons of life, Thedrifterluke's music sheds a fresh and compelling light on the human condition. Northeast folk-pop artists Hannah & Maggie are celebrating the release this summer of their 2017 full-length album, Oh No. Three years in the making, and produced with an ensemble of studio musicians, the collection of 14 original tracks reflects new strength and complexity in the music and in the bonds of the duo whose prismatic harmonies and songwriting have been compared to the Indigo Girls and Simon & Garfunkel. Since they began touring together in 2010, Hannah & Maggie have shared the stage with Hurray For The Riff Raff, Dar Williams, Ben Taylor, and Danielle Ate the Sandwich. They've been featured in Curve Magazine and were named two of the “100 Women We Love” by GO Magazine. In 2012, the duo won the Connecticut Folk Festival Songwriting contest; in 2013, H&M placed as national finalists in the Mountain Stage New Song Contest. Hannah & Maggie have been called, by a California promoter who hosted them, ”a flawless continuation of the singer-songwriter tradition.” Songs Featured: Sarasota Oh No http://www.hannahandmaggie.com/ https://hannahmaggie.bandcamp.com/ https://www.facebook.com/hannahandmaggie Subscribe on iTunes!
