Tara was named 2021 Best News Talk Show and Best overall Personality, AGAIN, by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association! Tara took home the same honors in 2018 and was also named 2016 "Personality of the Year!" In addition, Tara has also won over two dozen state and national journalism awards for column writing, news reporting and investigative reporting while working for three newspapers and writing for a variety of national publications. She won a first place reporting award from the North Carolina Press Association for an investigative series about the weaknesses in Charlotte's overburdened court system, which regularly let murderers off the hook with less than 15 years in prison. Due to her work, that system has been reformed. Tara is also a winner of the prestigious first place Green Eyeshade Award, a national award for column writing from The Society of Professional Journalists. Tara took to the airwaves about 15 years ago to do a radio show heard up and down the coast and fell in love with bypassing her editors to talk straight to the people. Tara hasn't stopped reporting, and still brings her investigative journalism to the show. Tara is a mom, wife and talk radio convert-- and weekday mornings she's live and local on News/Talk 989 WORD. Iggy Pop made his (first) comeback with the Raw Power album, released in 1973. The album opens with the ferocious track “Search And Destroy”. Produced by David Bowie and powered by the savage energy of the reconstituted Stooges (featuring James Williamson's guitar fury), this track set the tone, not only for this album, but for decades of punk and heavy metal to come. “Search And Destroy” (Iggy Pop & James Williamson) Copyright 1973 by Bug Music (BMI) and EMI Music Publishing Ltd. Their track “You'll Never Stop This Machine” was notably used during the 2021-2022 NHL Playoffs on the nationally televised “Hockey Night in Canada.“ In July 2022, Black Ridge expanded their reach with several performances in Nashville, TN, including a memorable set at Tootsie's World Famous Orchid Lounge on Broadway. Following that, in September 2022, they released their latest EP, “Raw Power,” which is available on all major music streaming platforms. The band also traveled to Leestavall Recordings in Brooklyn, NY, to record custom vinyl singles, further showcasing their commitment to delivering high-quality music experiences. We wrap up season 8 with Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary and her powerful, dynamic conversation with Sharon. Dr Chaudhary is a neurologist, neuroscientist, and Ayurvedic practitioner. She combines modern neuroscience with ancient wisdom. She also coaches executives of large corporations on how to connect. Dr. Chaudhary completed the Hoffman Process in 2022. She shares a powerful, pivotal moment from her Process. She was paired up with another student which provided the perfect invitation to be - messy. As she tells us, she's been trained to keep things clean in her life and work. But at this moment, she let go. Kulreet shares, "I don't think I have ever been that emotionally messy in my entire adult life." She tells us that because of her willingness to let go fully into her emotional messiness, she also found a freedom she'd never felt before as an adult. After she completed the Process, Dr. Chaudhary dove into the Hoffman practices and tools. For about six months, she embraced a daily practice to deepen the transformation that had happened during her Process. It is hard to describe what happened to Kulreet after working with the tools and practices diligently. What stands out is how in the moment of incredible transformation and healing, Kulreet was holding herself in a profound, unwavering, self-love. As she held herself in the radiance of this self-love, the darkness that she thought was within her shattered. It wasn't at all what she'd thought it was. This is the raw power of self-love. We hope you enjoy and find benefit from this profound conversation with Kulreet and Sharon. We'll see you again in the second half of August for our next series of conversations. More about Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary: Meet Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary, a neurologist, neuroscientist, and a pioneering voice in Sound Medicine and Ayurveda. On this week's episode of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs, hosts Brittany Spanos and Rob Sheffield discuss the story of “Be My Baby,” breaking down the song's massive impact on pop history. The song comes in at #22 on Rolling Stone's list and is as universal as a pop song can be. It's the song that made Ronnie Spector a timeless rock & roll legend, a teenage girl from Spanish Harlem who packed a lifetime of raw power into three minutes. Ever since Ronnie belted “Be My Baby” in 1963, it's been the classic that sums up the whole Sixties girl-group era, with Phil Spector's lavish Wall of Sound production – but it's never left the airwaves. It's been the foundation for artists from Brian Wilson to Bruce Springsteen to Lana Del Rey. You hear it everywhere, from Scorsese movies to goth clubs to hair metal, from the Ramones to Beyoncé. This week Rob and Brittany are joined by a true legend: Jeff Barry, who co-wrote “Be My Baby.” The Barry/Greenwich team cranked out a host of Sixties girl-group smashes for stars like the Crystals (“Then He Kissed Me”), the Dixie Cups (“Chapel of Love”), the Chiffons (“I Have a Boyfriend”), and the Shangri-Las (“Leader of the Pack”). Barry discusses the making of “Be My Baby,” the early Brill Building songwriting days, and his long career from pop to soul to country.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Eric and Eddy return with a metal-punk crossover extravaganza! We're joined by YouTube's Rich Talks Records to discuss Iggy and the Stooges' seminal album: Raw Power. Proto punk? Proto metal? Or is it just a great rock ‘n' roll record? Or maybe one of us doesn't even like it much?? We also debate the album's two different mixes (the David Bowie mix and the Iggy Pop mix). So if you like some danger and power in your rock music, this episode is for you…!!
A hurricane is like a giant power plant. In a single day, a run-of-the mill hurricane can produce 200 times as much energy as all the power plants in the entire world. And a major hurricane can produce several times more.It might not sound right, but only about one percent of that comes from a hurricane's winds. That's still a lot of power—the equivalent of a 10-megaton H-bomb every 20 minutes. Most of its power comes from the process that makes clouds and rain. A hurricane is fed by warm ocean water. Some of the water evaporates and climbs high into the sky as water vapor. At high altitudes, where temperatures are cooler, the vapor condenses to form clouds, which then produce rain. That process releases huge amounts of heat. The heat causes more evaporation, more condensation, and so on. Over a typical hurricane lifetime, that produces as much energy as ten thousand large nukes. And that's one reason you can't kill a hurricane with a nuclear bomb—the hurricane itself is far more powerful. It would be like trying to kill a charging rhino with a BB gun.You might wonder whether we could capture all of that energy. For now, the answer is no. For one thing, we don't have the technology for it. Wind turbines aren't designed to handle hurricane-force winds, for example. You'd also have to maneuver a lot of equipment into the hurricane's path. And we don't have a way to store all of that energy. So we won't be harnessing the power of a hurricane anytime soon.
Over the past five decades, American artist Jenny Holzer has been engaging in thought-provoking interventions into public space that unflinchingly address politics, power, violence, and vulnerability. The New York-based artist investigates language as both content and form, and she works with unconventional mediums to do this including street signage, T-shirts, and light projections, but also sculptures and painting. Her poetic and often minimalist works are extremely impactful, creating a tension between knowledge and truth and emotion. Last year, Holzer curated an acclaimed exhibition of the work of Louise Bourgeois at the Kunstmuseum Basel. More recently, she received Whitechapel Gallery's prestigious Art Icon award. She's also the subject of a major solo exhibition on view until August 6 at a preeminent institution in Germany, the K21 in Dusseldorf. On the occasion of the show, which includes many key works spanning her career, Artnet's Europe editor Kate Brown caught up with Holzer, one of the foremost artists of her generation.

There’s a ton of iconic music adjacent to the 1977 punk explosion, intuitively categorized as “proto-punk” and “post-punk”. And while you could argue discrepancies outweigh similarities between The Stooges’ Raw Power, Television’s Marquee Moon, Gang of Four’s Entertainment!, and XTC’s Black Sea, one word seems to encapsulate the shared aesthetic among protos and posties: “angular”. In this episode, we put a Stranglehold on Detroit Rock City as it's time to Kick Out The Jams on this Elephant of a show with tons of Raw Power that emanated from Detroit in 2014. A 32-song set with an excellent crowd that took place in the middle of their Heartland Tour during the Lightning Bolt era, this show was dominated by Motor City Easter eggs, local sports legends and some things you've never witnessed before. Big thanks to long-time Horizon Leg Patron, Fred Blood, for requesting this as he'll get to tell his story in the episode. Though it was the show that preceded the wildly popular Moline No Code performance, people still talk about this one eight years later. There's no shadow hanging over it, and it's because it was an excellent mix of fan favorites, rarities and tons of memorable speeches. It was the sixth all-time performance of Black Red Yellow, the first instance where Release and Oceans opened up a show back-to-back and includes a highly emotional version of Light Years dedicated to Ikey Owens from Jack White's band who had recently passed away. Listen in if you want to find out what happens when you challenge Chris Chelios to a fight, and discover the reason as to why Get Right hasn't been played in nearly 20 years. But stay until the end if you want to know which 2022 shows we'll be covering during the month of December! What is a badass leader? According to my guest today, they're badasses who go 80MPH in a 45MPH zone but don't always check to see if their team is strapped in or interested in going for the ride. These leaders are high value to a company but their "prickly" edges may start to diminish their value. But what if we could help those leaders embrace more empathy and channel that energy and drive into success and innovation? What is the opportunity cost of dismissing or sidelining such prickly leaders? Executive coach and advisor Parissa Behnia coaches C Suite and Senior leaders who are high will - high skill and have a growth mindset. Today, we talk about the hierarchy of prickly leadership, why many 3D leaders actually do care about the negative impact they have but are not sure how to change the dynamic; why they protect themselves so much, and how they can use her EMPATHY framework to create stronger relationships, set aside ego, and have much more influence and success. Key Takeaways:You don't have to like a leader personally to understand the radical impact that they've had on us and on society.Once we start learning to have acceptance for our vulnerability, it becomes easier to have a conversation about leadership ultimately being about humanity, and not about the "doing" of whatever it is that they do.A manager worries about doing things right, a leader worries about doing the right things. In terms of empathy, when it comes to leadership, it's really about content and context."The number one problem with badasses is that they're called " too much" whereas I think they're exactly what we need." — Parissa BehniaAbout Parissa Behnia, Executive Coach and AdvisorParissa Behnia coaches C Suite and Senior leaders who are high will - high skill and have a growth mindset. In other words, they're badasses like you who go 80MPH in a 45MPH zone but don't always check to see if their team is strapped in or interested in going for the ride. These leaders are high value to a company but their edges may start to diminish their value. These days, leadership is full of complexities whether you're navigating from an audacious goal or trying to avoid that iceberg up ahead. In either case, Parissa's clients choose her because she's either sat in those seats or next to those seats often enough to know how it can feel to be alone in a crowded leadership room. She's unafraid to speak truth to power to help propel you forward. With over 20 years of corporate, consulting, coaching, Parissa's key strategic difference is Empathy as a strategic imperative. She's so passionate about employing empathy in business that she's developed the Sixense Empathy Model™. Parissa has taught entrepreneurship seminars and is a frequent speaker on strategy, leadership and entrepreneurship. She is a Certified Professional Coach, holds a BA from Northwestern University and MBA from NYU's Stern School of Business.References Mentioned:Empathy Edge Podcast Episode with Paul Marobella, Leading Through Crisis: https://theempathyedge.com/paul-marobella-leading-through-crisis/Connect with Parissa BehniaSixense Coaching: www.sixensestrategy.comLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/behniaInconceivable Influence Coaching Program: https://bit.ly/InconceivableInfluence.
