Nick and Mark have come in with plenty to discuss, they both watched a heap of golf over the weekend and have seen some great performances that they want to discuss. The one-handed putting of Adam Schenk a highlight, and we discuss one-handed putting. Nick has been reading about a new technique called 'heads up putting' that he explains to Mark. Young pro Max Charles performed well at the weekend and Mark was particularly proud of how Max went given he has been giving him a few pointers, and pinching (with credit) some of Nick O'Hern's tips. Mark discusses what he calls 'formalising acceleration', what it is, and what it achieves. On that, Mark predicted a 64 in the Box Hill Pro Am, he didn't quite get there with his up and downs letting him down.Nick talks about 'the feel'. When you've got it, you're on. He talks through a time playing the Congressional in Washington when he had the feels, and Mark has a story about watching, and then copying Raymond Floyd.Mark gives an update on Charlie Woods and explains why he is a fan of the young fella. Nick's Touch of Class for BMW is on something that Rory McIlroy has done, and not on the golf course. We have a listen. After the turn, we touch on what went wrong with our Betr multi at the weekend. Mark and Dan blame Nick saying he put the mozz on the multi and is at fault. When you hear the facts it is hard to argue. Although Nick defends himself. If this was a court case, Nick would be found guilty and the sentence would be significant. Probably with no non-parole period. Our Betr Top 5 is less controversial than last weeks. We've had a mountain of feedback following Marks Top 5 things that Pros laugh at Amateurs for doing last week, which we'll discuss in a bonus pod later in the week. Today, Nick lists his Top 5 unusual things you see Pros do.Feedback today for Southern Golf Club - some comments about Nicks photo from the Shepparton Golf Club in front of the honour board, Gary Player, Trees on Links courses, and Marks old caddy Drew has written in...Mark reveals the first time he ever hired Drew to caddy for him, and why it went pear-shaped on the 3rd holeA big PING global results today with plenty for Nick to run through - Dubai, LPGA, and a heap more. So much for it being a quiet time of the golfing year! And the masterclass for watchMynumbers.....Mark has brought a chopstick in to illustrate a point in todays masterclass which has to do with having enough 'space' when you're driving. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:BMW, luxury and comfort for the 19th hole;Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best;Golf Clearance Outlet, they beat everyone's prices;Betr, the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia; And watchMynumbers and Southern Golf Club. Another fun episode this week, with plenty of golf to discuss. We start with a text that Mark received from former Herald Sun golf journo Brian Meldrum about a fantastic achievement from Huntingdale member Ken Chandler recently. Fantastic. We love these stories.Nick mentions that Gary Player's 1974 Claret Jug replica was sold recently by his son, not with Gary's approval unfortunately. But a lazy 400k for him (the son not Gary).Back to Huntingdale, we discuss the development and how it is going. It is going to be very, very good. Mark starts banging on about trees again. The Olympics. Nick and Mark haven't seen a lot of the golf, in fact Mark zero, Nick only highlights, but they're loving the Olympics - just not so much the golf. We discuss the ridiculous outfits the US golf team were wearing, and then Mark asks Nick who should win golfer of the year, and does the Olympic gold medal for Scottie Scheffler count towards that?Great win from Aussie Karl Vilips on the Korn Ferry tour in Utah. Nick and Mark discuss how he came to move to America, and the advice Mark gave him before he did. Did Karl listen to Mark?Leds to a chat about college scholarships for young golfers, Mark is a huge advocate of it, as is Nick. We hear how Mark obtained his scholarship and what it did for his golf. And we discuss the path Max Charles went on, and how it evolved his game.Voicemail comes in during the pod from Brad who has a ripping question about mentoring kids in golf, Nick and Mark have some thoughts.A top 5 from Mark this week on his 'stupidest' sports in the Olympics....does golf get a run?Nick wraps up all the results in the last week or so in the PING global results, we have a heap of feedback to run through from the Talk Birdie Wolfpack, and inspired by Moriya Jutanufarn Nicks masterclass is on using a belly wedge.A big thanks to our wonderful Talk Birdie partners:PING, they'll help you play your best, you can see your local golf shop or professional for a PING club fitting;the new watchMynumbers app, the most powerful data based golf app in the world, download from the App Store ;and the Golf Clearance Outlet, great prices on the best gear. Another fun show today, we start with a chat about the LPGA tournament at Sahalee in Washington at the weekend, fantastic win for Amy Yang - she has waited a long time for this and it was wonderful to see. Tough final couple of holes, but she got there! And Nick O'Hern claims Amy as an honorary Aussie, find out why on the pod.Mark loved the tournament, but hated one thing about it. And it had to with nature. Speaking of nature, we talk about the protestors at The Travellers event in Connecticut. Didn't slow Scheffler down though who went on to win in a playoff. He's on fire.Nick and Mark discuss the rumours that there is an Australian Open announcement coming this week sometime. Might just be rumours, but there seems to be movement at Australian Golf Headquarters. Fingers crossed!Mark gives us a fun Top 5 today, unless you're a player listed. It's the Top 5 'slumps' in professional golf. His number one is a current golfer on the pro tour.Plenty of feedback this week, including a whack from a pod listener who says Nick and Mark are 'out of touch'. Ouch. Why? We discuss on the pod, and would your feedback on the specific reason why the boys have been whacked. And in fact we've got plenty of feedback we couldn't get to, so we'll do another bonus Q&A pod later in the week with a few more of your questions for the boys - keep them coming.Fantastic PING global results this week from Nick, lots of action all over the world, and he runs through some of the key results. And then we have a voicemail question from Chris for Nick about one of the holes in Isleworth, Florida, where Nick lived for 13-years as a pro.A great Masterclass from Nick thanks to the team at the watchMynumbers app - this week inspired by the winner of the LPGA tournament at the weekend, Amy Yang, about the rhythm in her swing, which Nick says is very impressive. And we're working on a bonus pod this week with super coach Jonathon Yarwood from the US. Aiming for friday. He's a gun and we're looking forward to a good chat with him if the timing works.A big thanks to our Talk Birdie partners:PING, they'll help you play your best, you can see your local golf shop or professional for a PING club fitting;the new watchMynumbers app, the most powerful data based golf app in the world, download from the App Store ;and the Golf Clearance Outlet, great prices on the best gear. In Hour 3, Willard and Dibs get updated on injuries from around the Bay with Dr. Pandya, chat with Audacy NBA insider and friend of the program Nick Friedell, and more.
Okay we always say it, but it's always the case - another big week in golf, and Nick O'Hern and Mark Allen will cover it all. Nick is at Cathedral in Victoria today on the dodgiest wifi connection we've ever heard, and Mark is at Australian Golf Headquarters in Melbourne on a fantastic connection. But no time for that......in breaking news, Mark has heard, from someone in the know, in the know, that a decision on where the 2024 Australian Open will be held is imminent, and he reveals the inside info on what he has heard. He'll get to that later in the podcast, he's just waiting on a text message from his 'mole' to confirm a couple of details.A fun chat about the first clubs Nick and Mark ever played with, let us know yours on the socials!Augusta. It is so close, and Nick and Mark are excited. Nick tells us about the course, what it's like to play it, and some of the nuances of the various holes. Nicks insights are great, and we can't wait for the tournament, will be brilliant.A huge weekend for Nelly Korda and Scheffler, whilst he didn't win, he is in a purple patch of form - perhaps with the exception of his putting. Nick and Mark chat about how good Nelly is, and Scheffler of course. Both hugely impressive golfers (captain obvious). Hannah Green got off to a wonderful start at the weekend in the desert, but then fell away. Still, she'll be back, she's a gun. Nick was impressed with Hira Naveed, particularly when he discovered that she's from Perth, even moreso when he discovered that she is a Mount Lawley girl!Okay the text message is in from Mark's contact. Mark reveals what state is definitely out of the running for the Open, and how much the respective state governments have bid to host it, there are two states in the hunt and the bid levels are quite a way apart......but..... it's not that simple. Mark explains why. After the turn, it's the Top 5 - Mark's favourite Australian Open courses. Nick takes us around the world in what has been a big weekend for some of the Aussies in the PING global results. And we have some feedback, including questions for Nick and Mark as usual, and a comment from listener Syd, that Nick and Mark vehemently disagree with, about our Peter Fowler bonus ep. Keep your questions and comments coming. And in todays Masterclass, Nick talks us through the one-hop chip shot. He saw Scheffler and Taylor Moore play it at the weekend in Houston. Nick is a fan, and whilst it's a high risk shot, it's a great one to have in the repertoire if you can. We're here each week with the great support of PING, see your local golf shop or professional for a PING club fitting. Just like they have with Nick O'Hern, PING will help you play your best. And the Golf Clearance Outlet, great prices on the best gear.
