Great message from Mick from the UK this week that we thought we'd explore a bit. Mick has asked Nick and Mark to give their Top 5 courses in the world, so we thought we'd run through them. In classic Talk Birdie style, the Top 5 becomes a Top 6 from each of them. And in Nicks case, one of the courses may have been influenced by the wine he was drinking at a house on the course - he explains on the pod. And what course does he describe as a 'living, breathing, parcel of land' ? Mark tells the story of why he never got to play Augusta....interestingly, also related in part to drinking (responsibly of course). And we wrap with an email from David in Western Australia who has some comments about bad behaviour on the golf course. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. What. A. Weekend. The US Open had everything. Drama, comebacks, fadeouts, bad weather, amazing shots, and on the final day at various times any one of half a dozen players were a genuine chance to win. So good.We do of course start the show by talking about the US Open and the incredible win of J.J. Spaun. Mark talks about how Spaun describes himself as a 'bad luck golfer', but he made his own luck at Oakmont. That final putt was unbelievable. We discuss the comments that his coach made to him during the rain break about 'trying too hard', and Mark compares Spaun's actions in the break to Minnesota Fats in the movie The Hustler. Nick muses about what the scores might have been had the greens been firm, and we talk about that drive on 17 from Spaun. We discuss Adam Scott, a real chance going into Sunday and unfortunately a tough final round so he didn't finish the way he'd have liked. Mark described it as 'brutal to watch'. Nick and Mark discuss Scotty's reputation as a bit serious vs the reality of their experiences with him, and Nick explains why he 'hates Adam Scott'.Nick and Mark give their view on the Sam Burns relief (or lack of) ruling on Sunday, and Mark says whilst the ruling may have been technically correct, it means the rule is wrong.Nick forgot to put his phone on mute before the pod, but it works out well as he gets a text from US Tour Pro Austin Truslow who played the US Open, so we decide to call him back live and have a chat. Austin explains what playing Oakmont was like, how he approached it, and about hitting balls with J.J. Spaun on the Monday prior. Nick asks Austin what a 5-handicapper would shoot at Oakmont. There was some bad behaviour at the Open. Namely Rory McIlroy and Wyndham Clark. We discuss. In light of Spauns stunning winning putt, the Top 5 from Nick is the 5 greatest shots ever made to win their first mens major. Has he missed one? Competition time. Let us know if there is one Nick has missed and he will choose one wolkfpacker to win a Talk Birdie Prize Pack with $250 to spend at the Golf Clearance Outlet (instore or online) and a team entry into the Golfies 2-person Ambrose event, with the major prize a 25 grand trip to Thailand. Find out details and enter here. Remember - discount code 'Birdies' gets you 40% off your entry. As you'd imagine, feedback is heavily on the US Open today, but Dan gives Mark a whack for fighting with wolfpackers on social media. Mark defends himself saying that some people deserve to be whacked and he is happy to do it. PING globals from Nick, obviously Oakmont, but plenty of other great performances going on including an amazing result from a 15 year old women's amateur beating the pros ! And on Saturday Adam Scott showed some exceptional bunker play, and Marks masterclass today is on Scotty's bunker shots. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Andrew from Canada is watching Day 4 of the US Open, which at the time of publishing this is still wide open - Burns, Scotty and Hovland the three most likely at this stage, let's hope the rain doesn't get any heavier. Some cracking questions from Talk Birdie To Me wolfpackers this week, and Nick and Mark love chatting through them in our feedback pods.Craig is having issue off the tee, he is shanking it, and asks for a few thoughts from the boys....they have some solid advice.David sometimes gets distracted when he's over the ball if he sees some movement in his vision, and this is throwing him off....asks how Nick and Mark would deal with that. Tom loved Nicks story about having breakfast with Jack Nicklaus, if you haven't heard it you can watch it here. And Perry loves the idea of a bonus pod on the Troppo Tour, wants to hear some stories. Mark says that we have to get Wayne 'Radar' Riley on the pod to tell some stories. After the turn, we head to Wanaka in New Zealand to chase to wolfpacker Scott, who asks the boys about maintaining focus when you are playing well. Nick gives some great advice, Mark tells a brilliant story about tour pro Wayne Smith essentially helped him get another three years on tour by doing what Nick advocates, and then Scott is keen to know how Nick managed his mental focus when he was playing Tiger Woods. Great questions, great chat. It's US Open week and you'd think we'd start the show talking about that, or maybe about Ryan Fox's win in the Canadian Open, but no. Mark has found a new emoji that he likes and that's what he brings to the table to open the show with. Seriously Talk Birdie To Me used to be a serious golf show, we have jumped the shark. Even worse, the emoji doesn't mean what Mark thinks it does....awkward.But onto the US Open! Mark loves the week, and says even though the course is set up to be brutal and unreasonable, he loves watching it. He asks Nick what a 9-marker playing on Thursday would hypothetically shoot at Oakmont. Sobering. Nick talks about how difficult the course is, and was when he played it. The rough is juicy and the greens quick, and Nick expects that there is a chance the winning score may be level par saying the course is a war of attrition.Don't forget our Talk Birdie To Me multi at Betr - 16 bucks for Scheffler top 3, Ludvig to beat Rahm, and Straka to miss the cut. Get on here.We then discuss Ryan Fox's Canadian Open win, and the playoff particularly which was enthralling. Nick and Mark would have preferred rather than a par 5, a 4 or 3 hole for the playoff.Serious time. Mark gives an investigation on the ludicrous Top 100 Golf Course ranking list.Mark and Dan have been watching a new series called Stick about a former golf pro, Nick hasn't seen it yet. See the trailer here, it's good fun and worth a look. Mark is also excited about Happy Gilmore 2 which is 6 weeks away, Nick will watch it but isn't as excited and feels it looks pretty ordinary. After the turn a selfish Top 5 from Mark. His 5 things that he is most excited about in golf at the moment. Controversial though, as Dan accuses Mark of telling porky pies, and Nick provides clarity over one of his entries that cast doubt for Mark as to whether it should be on the list.Huge week of results in the PING globals from Nick, plenty of feedback on the Top 100 list - unsurprisingly given how terrible it is, and Mark suggests a movie about David Graham's life would be brilliant to see, and reveals a fact about him that not too many people would know. And in the masterclass today, Nick discusses why good rhythm is good golf, and why he uses a metronome. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Today we preview the US Open this weekend, how exciting is it! Mark has come specifically dressed in green or, as he puts it, the colour of money. That's because he is convinced that Straka is still getting no respect, with Hummer and the Betr team putting him at 67 bucks. Mark says they clearly don't know what they're doing.Mark's also watched a video on YouTube of Bryson at Oakmont, and says it is worth the watch. See it here. But onto the US Open - Oakmont, a tough course, Nick has played it and says it is 'scary' how difficult the course is. He also talks about playing US Opens and one of the reasons he loved them was that he knew at some point about half the field would lose their mind and their game would collapse. Nick says the USGA has two goals for the US Open, when they construct the courses, he tells us what they are and why they do it. Mark and Nick discuss the small fairways at Oakmont, and Nick talks about the rough and how thick it is, and what that means for some players. We run through the power rankings, a couple of surprises, and we look at the Aussies (and Ryan Fox) and discuss their chances. Mark says Cam Smith's swing is in bad shape, the worst he has seen it.After the turn....we build another Betr Multi. And it's a lazy chance.Scheffler to finish Top 3 - surely as close to a lock as you can be!;Ludvig Åberg to beat Jon Rahm - a good shot, certainly not a lock, but not out of the question;Straka to miss the cut.Mark is unhappy with the final leg, but Nick and Dan rate it.That's our Talk Birdie To Me multi, only available at Betr - download the app, or go the the website, it takes literally 90 seconds to set up an account, click on Betr Specials, and the Talk Birdie To Me multi is there.Enjoy the Open !We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. After Nick O'Hern and Mark Allen asked Tour Pro Scott Laycock to get in touch with his memories of the 2001 Australian Open, Scotty shot us a message on socials which we read out on Fridays pod, and he then left a voicemail talking about it which fleshed out what happened in that tournament a little more. Scotty also commented on the story Nick and Mark discussed regarding José Luis Ballester having an unscheduled bathroom break on Rae's Creek at The Masters and recounted a story of his own that cost him dearly when he was on tour. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Feedback pod today, bunch of your comments and questions to run through. Mark is curious to know how our request for mean tweets is going, short answer is 'underwhelming', we've only had a couple, so Mark decides Nick needs to offend more people on the pod. And we started our investigation a couple of days ago into the heinous crime that is the list of the Top 100 World Golf Courses list from an unnamed group of judges, probably unnamed as the list is pretty ordinary, Marks investigation continues, we'll update next week. Watch here to see the list if you haven't yet.Wolfpacker David has a suggestion for the greatest shot of all time, it is from Corey Pavin...but not the shot Nick and Mark expected from Corey. We discuss and Mark gives his verdict on whether David will be playing a round at Kingston Heath with Mark.Twitter page 'Conrad Golf Rankings' have some comments and questions on preparation for majors, which Nick and Mark look at.Tour Pro Scott Laycock messaged us with a few fun memories of the 2001 Australian Open where he played so well, Nick and Mark both played in the event, Mark remembers roughly where he finished, Nick can't recall how he finished - so we look it up live on the pod as Mark is keen to see if he knocked off Nick.Dave has a question about José Luis Ballester and his, ahem, 'behaviour' at The Masters. Some suggestions for players missed in the 'State of Origin' conversation last week.Simon wants to know what kind of swing exercises are best when you live in an apartment.David has some feedback on a recent masterclass from Mark that he has put in place - he tells us how it went.We were going to chat, via video, to wolfpacker Scott from New Zealand who has some questions for Nick and Mark - but we called too early, Scott was in a meeting, so not his fault, we're being unprofessional - but we're keen to chat to him, so we'll get him on the show next week. And we finish with a Twitter comment/question where someone has suggested the Ryder Cup is out-dated and they have an alternate suggestion. Nick and Mark respond to both comments. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Gordon from Woodlands in Melbourne watched the US Women's Open from Erin Hills at the weekend and found some of the pace of play frustrating, even though he enjoyed the event overall. After a massive weekend in the US Women's Open at Erin Hills, and a big tournament at 'Jacks Place', Ala Memorial, we're back with a busy Talk Birdie To Me podcast last today. Nick and Mark were very impressed with Maja Stark in her win in the US Open, Nick says she is 'an outstanding player', and Mark agrees, bit admits to not paying a huge amount of attention to her prior to the weekend. Nick has followed her for a while and fills Mark in on her backstory.Whilst he loved Maja's win, Mark dislikes the Erin Hills course and explains why, Nick discusses the setup of the greens, and why he felt it could have been better. Mark's view is that is was set up to deliver boring golf, Nick feels if it was windy that would have livened it up. Whilst Maya was impressive, on form Nick feels Nelly Korda probably should have won but her putting lets her down, and he explains why. Nick then raises the women's 'super slam' and the only player to win it.....who just happens to be an Aussie! Mark cannot believe that this achievement from the legendary Karrie Webb slips under the radar, he also can't believe that Karen Lunn still is not credited with having won a major.Onto Memorial. Having played it, Nick describes is as 'a Players week'., he loved it. And he said it always feels special when Jack Nicklaus is around. Nick tells a story about playing Memorial, and mid-tournament being in the breakfast area, when Jack asked to join him, Nick describes it as one of the greatest conversations he's ever had. Scottie Scheffler killed it again. He plays the 'right shots at the right time' according to Nick. Mark starts banging on about Sepp Straka again, and Nick and Dan ban him from putting Straka in our Betr multi next week. And then. Mark is worked up over a new Top 100 list he has seen - the Worlds Top 100 Golf Courses list which he believes contains some appalling oversights. Nick and Mark run through the list and discuss what shouldn't be there, and what should. Nicks changes his Top 5 plans in the turn and decides to do the the Top 5 courses that should have made the Worlds Top 100 Golf Courses list but didn't.Feedback and we start with some constructive criticism from wolfpacker Jeff. Then into comments on LIV buying into the DPWT, and reaction to Marks comments last week of: 'are you a LIV lover or a PGA hater'. Big PING global results this week from Nick, particularly as there were two big events over the weekend. And Marks masterclass, inspired by Maja Stark, on 'hovering' the club. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. A short bonus episode of Talk Birdie To Me today, with a guest in studio - Gene Saunders, who is the Titleist Golf Club Business Manager, Australia and New Zealand. He's dropped in to talk about the latest Scotty Cameron putters, and particularly the chain link face milling technology. They look great, but clearly they're not made just for appearance, so we wanted to find out what that technology does and more importantly will they help us play better golf!Gene also talks about why they have used carbon steel, and runs through some of the different styles.Whatever brand you prefer, it's always fascinating to get some insights into the thought process that goes into golf equipment and Mark and Nicks chat with Gene was a ripper! We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Another feedback pod today, we love these as you basically do all the work and we just respond to your comments and questions. We start with wolfpacker Pete who has sent a pic in of the rakes that are apparently being trialled at Royal Queensland and is keen on Nick and Marks thoughts, Peter also had a suggestion for the best golf club in Queensland, as did many others, we read through a bunch of them.During this the Troppo Tour comes up and Nick tells a story about playing that tour, a funny story that happened when he was driving from Mt Isa to Proserpine in North Queensland. Mark suggests that we need to get Wayne 'Radar' Riley on for a bonus pod talking about the Troppo Tour.Angela has a question for Nick and Mark about the Australian Masters, and then we have video call from Stewy in Gisborne, Victoria who has interested to know if Nick and Mark have any 'golfing goals' left to achieve. They do, and they talk about what they are.Alex has a question for Mark about the Australian Open timing, he disagrees with Marks view that the date should move to February and explains why.Wolfpacker Alison asks if either Nick or Mark are playing in the Sandbelt Invitational this year.....we find out. And then a voicemail from Paul who says Rory's drive on the first playoff hole at Augusta was the best pressure drive he's ever seen, and explains why. Nick and Mark discuss, and invite your feedback - what do you feel is the best pressure drive ever in golf? Let us know. And a reminder of our forthcoming 'Mean Tweets' bonus pod which is coming up - let us know, give us a whack, let us know what you dislike - and (pending our lawyer Denis Denuto signing off on them) we'll read out your comments on a bonus 'Mean Tweets' episode. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Massive show, we start by discussing the US Women's Open this week at Erin Hills, Nick and Mark talk through the Aussies and Kiwis, and the international stars. Nick's tip - on this course is to keep an eye on the 'power players', and Mark says watch out for Steph Kyriacou who is in great form. Mark loves the fact that the prize money is $12 million. Predictably, Mark finds a way to pump up his man-crush on Sepp Straka. And then. The story Mark has been chasing for a few days now. Mark tells Nick and Dan that he has reliable information that LIV is looking to buy the DP World Tour. Nick and Mark discuss what it means, if it is a good thing or not, and how it may happen. Mark calls it 'the best possible outcome'. Would be big. Really big.In Australia this week - today at the time this pod is posted - Rugby League State of Origin is on which is, for overseas wolfpackers who may not be aware, the pinnacle of Rugby League in Australia, and the world. Nick and Mark put a golfing twist on it and discuss the best Australian golfers by their 'State of Origin'. Who did they miss? Who did they over or under rate? Let us know.Mark saw a video this week about imperfect greens and discusses. We discuss the end of The Colonial at the weekend, Nick and Mark loved it and they talk about Ben Griffin, Matti Schmid, and Karl Vilips. After the turn, we hear about Nicks new website with some excellent golf videos, tips and ideas for your game. There is a (very reasonably priced) subscription fee, but the content is excellent and it's worth checking out. Video and website link here. Thanks to Southern Golf Club, Marks Top 5 is 'courses that were built to be the toughest, but the pro's ripped them apart'.Voicemail from Ric in Perth with a question for Nick O'Who, leading to a business idea from Mark....he needs the profits to fund his relentless investment with Betr on Sepp Straka. PING globals from Nick, including one result which gets mentioned only as Nick finds the players name amusing. Feedback, and we decide to do a bonus episode on 'mean tweets'. Want to whack us? Message us, or put it on socials with hashtag #meantweets. Bonus ep on the way. More feedback on bunkers, and lots on last weeks chat about whether LIV is the best place to prepare for a major or not. Today we're reading out some of your questions and comments, Nick is still in Cathedral this week, Mark in the studio. We start the feedback pod with some constructive (or is it) criticism for Mark from wolfpacker Ross. Does Mark take it in the spirit it was intended? Predictably not really.Craig has a question about tour pros and divots, why don't they repair them? He feels it is disrespectful and asks Nick and Mark their view. Peter has a question on bunker maintenance. And we have a swing review with a difference today. Sent in by Will from Sydney, it's a video of tennis superstar Rafael Nadal's swing, Will is keen for some thoughts.Ry has a a masterclass suggestion on helping out with chipping around elevated greens.Adam has a question about a potential involvement from the PIF in Australia, and Geoff from Michigan wants to know how the path back to the PGA might look for LIV players should they want to return. And stay with us at the end of the show, we play the update reel from Mick Cocking at OCM, who texted Mark back during the show and said - yep you can play it - a fascinating insight into how OCM are redeveloping Huntingdale in Melbourne, but even if you're not in Melbourne it is an interesting listen, or view on YouTube, as to how course design works. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. We start today's pod talking about Scottie Scheffler's thumping win in Charlotte, Nick describes Scottie as 'Tiger-esque' at the moment, and Nick and Mark discuss his impressive performance, and some key moments. Mark loves how the year is shaping up with Rory, Scottie notching big wins, and Nick adds Bryson to the conversation as well.Nick brings up the multi that we had on with Betr. It didn't go well. Rory let us down, and it appears that we were on the wrong JT. Mark is confident that one will come off for the Wolfpack, and he is doubling down on Straka.Back to Scottie. Mark was impressed, not only with his performance but with how is caddy Ted Scott spoke about how Scottie handled the weekend mentally. Nick outlines what he sees in Scottie's game when he is under pressure. Mark loved the stats that were being provided on Scottie's misses to the left from Trevor Immelman who he describes as an elite golf commentator. We play a video of Scottie's 2nd shot on 15 on Sunday which Mark describes as his best shot of the tournament - but what a follow through! And on swings and follow throughs, who is the tour pro that Tiger tells Charlie to watch?Nick questions if the LIV guys are getting effective preparation for majors, in playing LIV. Mark raises Jon Rahm and feels if he made the birdie on 14 and 15, the outcome may have been different, both Nick and Mark feel an in-form Rahm is great for golf.Mudballs. Should they be addresses? Mark says the mudball situation in Charlotte should not have happened. And we discuss Shane Lowry's ball in another player's pitchmark/plughole, Mark feels this should be address, Nick says it is part of the game and it should be left as is.What about Jhonattan Vegas' shot into a rake! We watch the video and discuss. Mark starts banging on about rakes again. Illegal drivers. Nick and Mark discuss Scottie's and Rory's, and Mark says Rory's non-media appearance was 'shameful'.Top 5 from Nick on the toughest final 3 holes he's ever played in a major, he runs through them, explains why, and names what he believes is the toughest Par 4 in the world.Feedback today is largely on the coverage in Australian at the weekend, and on Rory's announcement last week. Plus we have a wolfpacker comment about Kingston Heath that Mark 'refuses to comment on'.PING globals results from Nick, comprehensive as always, and Marks masterclass which he describes as 'his greatest ever'.We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Feedback pod today, and we've got plenty of comments and questions from the Wolfpack. We start with a message from a young bloke who might have a future in this crazy game - Bradley Hughes - with a comment on Royal Melbourne Composite, which is hard to argue with. That feedback from Hugo reminds Nick that he also left a voicemail last week with some clarity on the Tiger Woods missing ball incident, providing some info that neither Nick or Mark were aware of. Mark decides that we have to get Tiger's caddy Steve Williams on the pod. We'll work on that.Matt asks if there are any holes on the Royal Melbourne East course that are better than the West, and if so what are they. Nick and Mark run through a few and explain why. Hurmeez thinks the Australian Open should be at Royal Melbourne on the Composite each year - Nick and Mark give their view. And Jonesy from Sydney feels it should be at a different course each year, but only on Sandbelt courses.Mark would love to see Coolum get a major tournament again, particularly now there are no dinosaurs on the course.Pete has a request for a guest following the recent Portsea Pub story. And then after the turn, we head to the US, to Nebraska in fact, where wolfpacker Matthew would like to discuss the greatest shot ever made, and place some criteria around it. A good chat with Matthew, with some fun interruptions from his cat.A couple of weeks ago we had a caption contest for the picture of Nick's caddy Wilbur at Augusta - we've got three finalists from a massive amount of entries (we edited out the ones that were insanely rude - there was a surprising amount), and we have 3 finalists, plus an extra one from an ineligible entrant who is a current tour pro, thus why he can't enter!A comment on a 'missed mulligan', and some feedback on a bit of gear that he bought from Golf Clearance Outlet from Ray, which has changed his game. And we spoke a week ago about 9-year old Jasper who is killing it - Paul sees Jasper each week in the simulator where he works, and gave us some of Jaspers figures.....woah....we have to get him on the pod for a chat, we'll sort that. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. A bonus episode today which came about after New Zealand golfer Ryan Fox won the Myrtle Beach Classic last week, which gave him a spot in the US PGA Championship in Charlotte this week....huge. Ryan is a fantastic golfer with a slightly unorthodox swing, that Nick O'Hern and Mark Allen discussed on Talk Birdie To Me this week. During that chat, we thought we'd see if we could grab Ryan's coach, former tour pro Marcus Wheelhouse, for a chat to ask him about it. He was happy to oblige, from the beautiful Royal Auckland and Grange Golf Club in Papatoetoe. We started with Marcus telling us how he came to work with Ryan 15-years ago, and a bit about the journey. Nick was interested to know how Ryan's swing has developed over that time, Marcus says that he was 'in awe when he saw Ryan smash a 5-iron over 200 metres'. We talk about the unorthodox nature of Ryan's swing compared to Sepp Straka, and Marcus tells us about an injury that Ryan had when he was younger which influences in part how his body moves and why his swing is how it is.Fascinating chat, and a great insight into how a coach works with a tour pro. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Following the bonus pod this morning when Mark Allen broke the news of Rory McIlroy at Royal Melbourne Composite this year (so good!), for today's pod we park Rory, there's been plenty of chat about him, and there will be plenty of opportunities to discuss - but we have a full podcast today with some great stuff to chat about. We start by talking about the Truist Championship in Philadelphia at the weekend and Sepp Straka getting a win. Mark has been on Sepp for the last few tournaments at Betr, was he on at the weekend?Nick and Mark look at Sepps swing, which is stunning, and give their observations. Mark describes it as a 'touch of class'. We talk about other golf swings, and Ryan Fox's comes up given it is slightly unorthodox. We look at Ryan's from the back, and the side, and break it down. Mark asks Nick what advice he'd give Ryan on his swing, and we kick around whether we could get Ryan's coach Marcus Wheelhouse on for a chat....whilst we're talking Mark shoots a text through, we'll see what comes back.We had a preview of the PGA Championship yesterday, but it's so close now that we kick it around a little more. Nick had one of his worst ever finishes at Quail Hollow, and tells the story. Nick and Mark each tell a story about some of their good 'made the cut' tournaments - Mark in Singapore and Nick in Mexico. And during the turn, Nick remembers a bad time he missed a cut, and tells us the story in the back 9...ouch.Top 5 from Mark is on the best Australian Opens ever. Has he missed one? Let us know.PING Global results from Nick, and Mark is keen to know if Sepp Straka can win this coming weekend. Nick says no, but says he expects Ryan Fox to play well as his game suits the course.Another tournament on this week is the ISPS Handa Australian Blind Golf Open in Adelaide, and we have a chat with wolfpacker Mark Eschbank who is playing in the tournament and tells us all about it. What is it like to have low vision and play golf? Nick and Mark are keen to find out, and Mark talks us through it.Feedback today is exclusively on the 'greatest shot ever made', and wolfpacker Chris has identified one that was criminally missed and may in fact qualify. We put it to Mark, and we look at the results of our poll.Great masterclass from Nick today on fairway bunker shots. And before we wrap - Ryan Fox's coach Marcus Wheelhouse messages back, and he's in for a chat later this week. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. The US PGA at Quail Hollow is thisclose and you better believe we're excited. Today Nick O'Hern and Mark Allen have a yak about the tournament, and we build our Talk Birdie To Me Betr Multi. But first we start with Nick banning Mark from including Sepp Straka in the multi for two reasons, firstly Sepp has let us down previously, and secondly, Nick doesn't believe he can win at Quail Hollow and he explains why.Nick talks us through the course, which he has played a number of times and explains what it is like to play, and how he played it. He believes that we should watch the big hitting players on this particular course. We run through the power rankings from 15 to 1 and Nick and Mark give their view on each players chances. We also discuss out of Rory and Scottie, who finishes on top of that battle and why. Nick and Mark each give their tip for the winner, and their dark horse. And of course we build our Betr multi live on the show, and have Hummer at Betr price it up for the Wolfpack. The multi is:Rory to beat SchefflerTwo LIV players to finish in the Top 10Justin Thomas to finish Top 10.There is no guarantee of course, and always gamble responsibly, but we feel this is a half a shot - and it's paying 10 bucks including ties. The only place to get it is at Betr here or on the app - look for specials and you'll find the Talk Birdie To Me multi - exclusive to Betr.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Last week on the Talk Birdie To Me podcast Mark Allen broke the news that it appeared that Rory McIlroy would play the 2025 Australian Open and it would be at Royal Melbourne Composite. It is now a 100% lock, and an announcement is imminent: as soon as this week, perhaps even today, which will confirm the news of Rory's appearance, the location, and clearly the date.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. A Talk Birdie To Me feedback pod today, and we start with a voicemail from Rob in Ryde, Sydney, who has a rules question about matchplay and having too many clubs in your bag. Nick and Mark think they know the answer, but we decide to get our rules expert Stu McPhee on the show to confirm....lucky we did, because we were incorrect! Whilst we have Stu, Nick clarifies a comment about changing balls that Mark made a couple of weeks ago. Then we have a video message from wolfpacker Rion from Saudi Arabia, who is calling with a shoutout, and a very cool one at that!Andrew has written in asking whether Nick and Mark feel Rory is a chance to win all 4 majors this year. Damian wants to know why Tour Pro's sometimes say, or commentators do, that they change their plans of how to play on the morning of a tournament after they've been on the range.Michael from Los Angeles has written in about the conversation on club fees, and has some staggering figures on a particular Californian golf club.A Top 5 suggestion for Nick from Ross in Mackay, which leads to a chat about some of Nick and Marks favourite clubhouses around the world. Tom suffers from foot pain, and recalls a chat a few pods ago about a pro who had the same thing - wants some info. And Stefan from South Australia has been playing for a year or so - already down to 20 mind you - and is after some advice of how to play different kinds of fairways.A fun feedback pod today! We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. This week on Talk Birdie To Me, we have some news on a big, big rumour from a couple of impeccable sources to do with Rory McIlroy and the Australian Open. Mark reveals all on the pod about what it means. Nick and Mark discuss what it would mean for other players being attracted, and ticket sales, with the combination of Rory McIlroy playing and the tournament being played on the Royal Melbourne composite course. Nick says he has goosebumps at the thought.Mark says he believes 'it is going to happen', however as exciting as it is he wonders about future Australian Opens, and what the 'plan' is for Australian gold and the calendar. Mark says 'I haven't heard a plan for Australian events from GA for 20-years'.We discuss the appointment of Oglivy as Presidents Cup Captain, and Mark asks Nick about his time playing Presidents Cup. Nick says for Washington and Montreal, preparation was non-existent, but that has now changed. We receive a voicemail from Wolfpack member Paul who has two questions for Nick and Mark, the first on Rory at The Masters, the second on Ángel Cabrera. Mark raises Steph Kyriacou's albatross from the weekend, and we find out how many (if any) albatross's the boys have each made.Scottie Scheffler. 31 under. Wow. Mark runs through the stats of his tournament at the Byron Nelson where he rinsed the field. After the Turn, Nick lists the Top 5 international players who are a realistic chance of playing the 2025 Australian Open.Feedback - Monty gets a run, Mark finds a way to sledge him and Nick joins in with a whack. Ryan French (of Monday Q on Twitter) last week in our bonus pod told a great story about Todd Balkin, turns out Todd listens to Talk Birdie To Me from Dallas and has sent us a message. We also received one from Matt in Brisbane who has an alternate 'greatest shot ever' to put to Mark after his Rory comments. We get Matt on a WhatsApp call and have a chinwag. Towards the end of the call, Matt describes his club in Jindalee as basically a pub with a golf course, or maybe it was a golf course with a pub, we got sidetracked when he mentioned pub. Mark would like to hear about other courses, anywhere in the world that a sort of like a pub/golf course combo so he can schedule a visit.Plenty to run through in the PING global results, Nick as usual has all the results that matter. Following The Masters, and Rory's extraordinary win, Mark Allen made the bold claim to Nick O'Hern that Rory's shot on 15 on Sunday was the greatest shot ever made in golf. Nick agrees it was incredible, but isn't necessarily convinced that it was the greatest ever. Mark doubled down and said that if anyone could mount an argument for another shot, he would take them out for a round on Kingston Heath in Melbourne's Sandbelt. We had plenty of suggestions. You have suggested a number of shots from players like Seve, Bubba, Phil, Sarazen, Jack, Tiger, Bryson, O'Connor, Oosthuizen. Do any of them convince Mark or does he lean into his 'situational' defence of his Rory claim? One specific shot was raised by multiple people, and Mark struggles to argue against it, until Nick raises a potential defense. It's a technicality, but does it rule out this shot?During the pod, Robert from Atlanta has a suggestion on a better shot - but also asks Nick to clarify a great rumour he has heard about Nick in one of the matchplay tournaments against Tiger. And Ken has a question about 1-irons.We wrap the pod with a question for Nick and Mark about Rory's shot. In the same circumstances, as tour pros, would they have attempted the same shot?We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. At Talk Birdie To Me, we have all been fans of the Monday Q Twitter page (here) for a long time, it's a ripper, if you're not following it then give yourself an uppercut and do it immediately. The guy who created it is Ryan French, and after Nick and Mark have consistently been referring to the page on the pod, we decided to get Ryan on the show for a yak, and it was a lot of fun.We started, well at the start. Why did Ryan start the page, and how did it come about. He tells us about his 'wake-up' moment as a college golfer, junior golfer, when he realised how many incredible players there were and that he would't be a pro.Nick and Mark talk about how they often were Monday Qualifiers and how important it was.The chat goes in an unexpected direction when Ryan's Basset Hound decides that he would like to be part of the chat, we have a look and he is adorable.Back to the page. Mark asks Ryan when he realised that he was onto something good, Ryan tells us about the moment in 2018 when he realised this could fly. And it involved an Australian golfer! And he tells us why his kids school day, on one occasion, took a (brief) backseat to the content on the page.Ryan tells us what he loves so much about the Monday Qualifier stories, moreso in many cases than the big names. He calls golf the 'most democratic sport in the world'.Mark asks Ryan about an amazing story to do with Mike Miller, a US golfer who played in last years Australian Open. The story of how this came about is fantastic, and Ryan tells the story. We ask Ryan about ridiculous 4-spot situations he has seen, and he tells a great story about an Australian golfer in Texas called Todd Balkin. And we wrap up with Ryan's 'Mona Lisa' story, the one that he just loves. It was not what we expected, but it was very funny!.A great chat with Ryan French, he's a ripper and we hope you enjoy the chat as much as we did. Don't forget to subscribe to Talk Birdie To Me, and of course to follow Monday Q on Twitter! We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. We're live from Titleist & FootJoy HQ and we start todays show with a story from Mark about the Australian Open Stonehaven Cup that Peter Lonard won at Moonah Links, and how the Cup was 'lost' for a number of months. Mark is convinced the story is accurate, but Nick and Third Man feel it sounds so unbelievable that we feel that it needs to be checked. So we drop a message to the former Australian golf boss Andrew Langford-Jones to give us a call and confirm or deny. Hopefully he calls before the end of the show. The Chevron. Nick and Mark describe it as 'mayhem', with the grandstand on the final hole an 'abomination' according to Nick. It resulted in a disaster for Ariya Jutanugarn with her shot ricochetting off the grandstand. Nick watched the whole thing, although the 5-way playoff went for a veeeeeery long time, with slow play an offender again.Nick raises the TIO ruling not only in the Chevron, but for the Hoygard twins in the PGA teams event in New Orleans. We discuss poor grandstand placement, which happens around the world, and Mark says it has to be better.Mark raises the LIV ratings from Florida which have been released and were soft. He is keen to have a look at how Mexico's LIV ratings go, given it was up against one of the great Womens PGA events, and what he describes as a pretty ordinary Mens team event in New Orleans, that he found difficult to watch. The world feed comes up (again) and, again, Nick and Mark unimpressed and they play some audio from Trevor Immelman analysing Justin Thomas' swing, illustrating what we are missing out on due to receiving the world feed.Mark says the Korn Ferry tour cut this was crazy - a 9 under cut and 30 under won the event. Nick discusses the difference between playing the Korn Ferry and the PGA tour when he was playing. After the turn we get Andrew Langford-Jones on the phone to either confirm or deny the Australian Open Peter Lonard story.Great Top 5 from Mark, listing the most unique golf holes in the world. Has he missed any?PING global results from Nick, as always plenty to run through, and lots of feedback from wolfpackers again - including a request from Jarrod which Nick and Mark love, and workshop live on the pod.And we wrap the show with a masterclass from Nick, inspired by Ariya Jutanugarn in the Chevron, on how to avoid chunking shots around the green. We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. The most common question that comes in for Nick O'Hern and Mark Allen at Talk Birdie To Me is along the lines of 'what should I practise', 'how should I structure my practise', 'what tips can you give me to ensure my practise is effective in converting to results on the course'.So this week when we received this email from Wolfpacker Matt, we thought we'd do a short bonus pod discussing it. Here's Matt's question:"Hi Nick and Mark! Huge fan of the show, looking to improve my game and my practising on the range. Just seeing what you would recommend with structuring my session, how would you suggest I train, what would you suggest I practise. Thanks guys,Matt'A question that, in various forms, we get a lot. So today Nick and Mark discuss the three things to do on the range that will improve your game immediately. We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. In this episode, Robby and Jonathan sit down with golf photographer Alex Napier, whose stunning visuals for iconic brands like Titleist and FootJoy have been inspiring golfers and gear lovers alike. Alex shares his unique journey from a law enforcement background in Ohio to capturing breathtaking golf courses in Japan and working with industry-leading companies.Hear how Alex's passion for both golf and photography developed, how a chance social media post launched his brand ambassador roles, and why his camera roll is a fascinating blend of arson scenes and immaculate fairways. We dig into Alex's creative process for product and course photography, the challenges (and etiquette) of shooting drone footage on golf courses, and why he believes finding your own artistic style is the key to success.https://linktr.ee/alexnapiergolfBestBall Links:•https://BestBall.com•https://linktr.ee/BestBall•https://bestball.substack.com - Subscribe to Par 3 Thursdays!Friends of BestBall:•B. Welcome to another feedback pod, these are the episode where you control the topics and we read out your questions and feedback (good and bad)!We start with a chat about Mark's comments last week that the Rory shot on 5 was the greatest shot ever made. Some wolfpackers have a different view - we won't read them out today, but we'll wait until Nick is back in the studio next week (he's in Cathedral for the school holidays) and we will do a bonus pod on 'the greatest shot ever made in golf'. Fun.Mark has sent in a pic of a 59 shot by Elvis Smylie at Southport on the Gold Coast, and would like Mark Allen to rate it. Mark does, and is brutal.Sam's home course has fast greens and he struggles when he plays a course with slow greens...and asks for some tips.Dale has written in with some 'useless information' (his words not ours) and both pieces are very good. One of Dale's points leads to a chat about young gun Jeffrey Guan and how he is going.Voicemail sound goes off, and it's a question from wolfpacker Fraser who played golf as a kid, went away, is back now and looking for some tips on how to improve.Laurie from Indonesia has a comment and question about Justin Rose at The Masters.Phil has a question about Max Homa and which of all his changes recently has had the most influence.A lovely message from wolfpacker Niall from Ireland who likes the 'bluntness' that Nick and Mark have when discussing issues. And finally a comment from Wayne who feels that some of the big names in world golf are off their game during the first couple of months of 2025.Mark asks Nick if he feels, as contracts come to an end, that any LIV players will want to come back to the PGA, and if he feels any big names from the PGA will leave for LIV.Keep the questions coming, and remember if you want any feedback on your swing, putting, chipping - anything - send us a video and we'll have a look at it on the show.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ (except when Nick is in Cathedral) thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Today, Mark is in studio at Titleist and FootJoy HQ, Nick is at Cathedral in Central Victoria. We start the show with Nick mentioning that his wife Alana has just had her best round ever. He is very proud! We talk about the RBC Heritage Tournament on Hilton Head. Nick says that Harbourtown, which he played many times, was his favourite course on the PGA Tour and explains why. He also says that it has one of the worst driving ranges on tour. Mark loves the trees, and goes into a tirade about golf course designers, golf course committees, and anyone in general who cuts down beautiful trees and replaces them with inappropriate ones on golf courses. We discuss JT's win, and his comments about asking for Xander Schauffele's help with his putting (here). Leads to a chat about 'home base'. Nick explains what his home base was, Mark talks to his, and we discuss Scottie Schefflers. Nick explains how Cam Smith's mirror works for him.A voicemail: a wolfpacker heard Nick's Top 5 'unwatchable' players a couple of weeks back, and feels that he missed an obvious one. Mark follows Stats Guru Lou Stagner on Twitter (here) and lists some stats that Lou posted on Rory's Masters performance. Staggering. During the Turn Nick casually drops a massive statement about Tommy Fleetwood, Mark disagrees. We discuss. But there is one thing about Tommy Fleetwood that Nick and Mark agree on which Mark says needs to 'stop immediately'.A Top 5 (or is it 6?) from Nick, suggested by Wolfpack member Skyla. Top 5 Mulligans. Nick loves it and lists his. Mark tells a story about Tour Pro Scott Hoch at a dinner in Auckland where things took a bad turn when Scott criticised the calamari.Feedback. Two main themes: Marks comments that Rory made the greatest shot ever on 15 at The Masters, which we'll come back to and do a bonus pod on. And the '4 sackable offences' chat. Feedback was split, most very passionate. We read out some of each. And Mark wants to hear from anyone who was at The Masters, about what it was like being there.More drama with PING Global results. Mark has gone rogue. This won't end well. And a masterclass from Mark to finish the show on 'starting' your golf swing. We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best.
