At Talk Birdie To Me, we have all been fans of the Monday Q Twitter page (here) for a long time, it's a ripper, if you're not following it then give yourself an uppercut and do it immediately. The guy who created it is Ryan French, and after Nick and Mark have consistently been referring to the page on the pod, we decided to get Ryan on the show for a yak, and it was a lot of fun.We started, well at the start. Why did Ryan start the page, and how did it come about. He tells us about his 'wake-up' moment as a college golfer, junior golfer, when he realised how many incredible players there were and that he would't be a pro.Nick and Mark talk about how they often were Monday Qualifiers and how important it was.The chat goes in an unexpected direction when Ryan's Basset Hound decides that he would like to be part of the chat, we have a look and he is adorable.Back to the page. Mark asks Ryan when he realised that he was onto something good, Ryan tells us about the moment in 2018 when he realised this could fly. And it involved an Australian golfer! And he tells us why his kids school day, on one occasion, took a (brief) backseat to the content on the page.Ryan tells us what he loves so much about the Monday Qualifier stories, moreso in many cases than the big names. He calls golf the 'most democratic sport in the world'.Mark asks Ryan about an amazing story to do with Mike Miller, a US golfer who played in last years Australian Open. The story of how this came about is fantastic, and Ryan tells the story. We ask Ryan about ridiculous 4-spot situations he has seen, and he tells a great story about an Australian golfer in Texas called Todd Balkin. And we wrap up with Ryan's 'Mona Lisa' story, the one that he just loves. It was not what we expected, but it was very funny!.A great chat with Ryan French, he's a ripper and we hope you enjoy the chat as much as we did. Don't forget to subscribe to Talk Birdie To Me, and of course to follow Monday Q on Twitter! We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. We're live from Titleist & FootJoy HQ and we start todays show with a story from Mark about the Australian Open Stonehaven Cup that Peter Lonard won at Moonah Links, and how the Cup was 'lost' for a number of months. Mark is convinced the story is accurate, but Nick and Third Man feel it sounds so unbelievable that we feel that it needs to be checked. So we drop a message to the former Australian golf boss Andrew Langford-Jones to give us a call and confirm or deny. Hopefully he calls before the end of the show. The Chevron. Nick and Mark describe it as 'mayhem', with the grandstand on the final hole an 'abomination' according to Nick. It resulted in a disaster for Ariya Jutanugarn with her shot ricochetting off the grandstand. Nick watched the whole thing, although the 5-way playoff went for a veeeeeery long time, with slow play an offender again.Nick raises the TIO ruling not only in the Chevron, but for the Hoygard twins in the PGA teams event in New Orleans. We discuss poor grandstand placement, which happens around the world, and Mark says it has to be better.Mark raises the LIV ratings from Florida which have been released and were soft. He is keen to have a look at how Mexico's LIV ratings go, given it was up against one of the great Womens PGA events, and what he describes as a pretty ordinary Mens team event in New Orleans, that he found difficult to watch. The world feed comes up (again) and, again, Nick and Mark unimpressed and they play some audio from Trevor Immelman analysing Justin Thomas' swing, illustrating what we are missing out on due to receiving the world feed.Mark says the Korn Ferry tour cut this was crazy - a 9 under cut and 30 under won the event. Nick discusses the difference between playing the Korn Ferry and the PGA tour when he was playing. After the turn we get Andrew Langford-Jones on the phone to either confirm or deny the Australian Open Peter Lonard story.Great Top 5 from Mark, listing the most unique golf holes in the world. Has he missed any?PING global results from Nick, as always plenty to run through, and lots of feedback from wolfpackers again - including a request from Jarrod which Nick and Mark love, and workshop live on the pod.And we wrap the show with a masterclass from Nick, inspired by Ariya Jutanugarn in the Chevron, on how to avoid chunking shots around the green. We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. The most common question that comes in for Nick O'Hern and Mark Allen at Talk Birdie To Me is along the lines of 'what should I practise', 'how should I structure my practise', 'what tips can you give me to ensure my practise is effective in converting to results on the course'.So this week when we received this email from Wolfpacker Matt, we thought we'd do a short bonus pod discussing it. Here's Matt's question:"Hi Nick and Mark! Huge fan of the show, looking to improve my game and my practising on the range. Just seeing what you would recommend with structuring my session, how would you suggest I train, what would you suggest I practise. Thanks guys,Matt'A question that, in various forms, we get a lot. So today Nick and Mark discuss the three things to do on the range that will improve your game immediately. We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Welcome to another feedback pod, these are the episode where you control the topics and we read out your questions and feedback (good and bad)!We start with a chat about Mark's comments last week that the Rory shot on 5 was the greatest shot ever made. Some wolfpackers have a different view - we won't read them out today, but we'll wait until Nick is back in the studio next week (he's in Cathedral for the school holidays) and we will do a bonus pod on 'the greatest shot ever made in golf'. Fun.Mark has sent in a pic of a 59 shot by Elvis Smylie at Southport on the Gold Coast, and would like Mark Allen to rate it. Mark does, and is brutal.Sam's home course has fast greens and he struggles when he plays a course with slow greens...and asks for some tips.Dale has written in with some 'useless information' (his words not ours) and both pieces are very good. One of Dale's points leads to a chat about young gun Jeffrey Guan and how he is going.Voicemail sound goes off, and it's a question from wolfpacker Fraser who played golf as a kid, went away, is back now and looking for some tips on how to improve.Laurie from Indonesia has a comment and question about Justin Rose at The Masters.Phil has a question about Max Homa and which of all his changes recently has had the most influence.A lovely message from wolfpacker Niall from Ireland who likes the 'bluntness' that Nick and Mark have when discussing issues. And finally a comment from Wayne who feels that some of the big names in world golf are off their game during the first couple of months of 2025.Mark asks Nick if he feels, as contracts come to an end, that any LIV players will want to come back to the PGA, and if he feels any big names from the PGA will leave for LIV.Keep the questions coming, and remember if you want any feedback on your swing, putting, chipping - anything - send us a video and we'll have a look at it on the show.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ (except when Nick is in Cathedral) thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Today, Mark is in studio at Titleist and FootJoy HQ, Nick is at Cathedral in Central Victoria. We start the show with Nick mentioning that his wife Alana has just had her best round ever. He is very proud! We talk about the RBC Heritage Tournament on Hilton Head. Nick says that Harbourtown, which he played many times, was his favourite course on the PGA Tour and explains why. He also says that it has one of the worst driving ranges on tour. Mark loves the trees, and goes into a tirade about golf course designers, golf course committees, and anyone in general who cuts down beautiful trees and replaces them with inappropriate ones on golf courses. We discuss JT's win, and his comments about asking for Xander Schauffele's help with his putting (here). Leads to a chat about 'home base'. Nick explains what his home base was, Mark talks to his, and we discuss Scottie Schefflers. Nick explains how Cam Smith's mirror works for him.A voicemail: a wolfpacker heard Nick's Top 5 'unwatchable' players a couple of weeks back, and feels that he missed an obvious one. Mark follows Stats Guru Lou Stagner on Twitter (here) and lists some stats that Lou posted on Rory's Masters performance. Staggering. During the Turn Nick casually drops a massive statement about Tommy Fleetwood, Mark disagrees. We discuss. But there is one thing about Tommy Fleetwood that Nick and Mark agree on which Mark says needs to 'stop immediately'.A Top 5 (or is it 6?) from Nick, suggested by Wolfpack member Skyla. Top 5 Mulligans. Nick loves it and lists his. Mark tells a story about Tour Pro Scott Hoch at a dinner in Auckland where things took a bad turn when Scott criticised the calamari.Feedback. Two main themes: Marks comments that Rory made the greatest shot ever on 15 at The Masters, which we'll come back to and do a bonus pod on. And the '4 sackable offences' chat. Feedback was split, most very passionate. We read out some of each. And Mark wants to hear from anyone who was at The Masters, about what it was like being there.More drama with PING Global results. Mark has gone rogue. This won't end well. And a masterclass from Mark to finish the show on 'starting' your golf swing. We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. We're getting plenty of feedback and questions coming in, sometimes we take a bit of time to get to them, but we're trying to work through them all as we can. Today on the pod we start by talking about a photo Nick shared on his instagram page - see it here - it's a great pic of Nick's caddy Wilbur at Augusta waiting for Nick.Speaking of caddies, Mark was lined up this week by one of his former caddies who felt Mark was being a bit harsh on Rory McIlroy's caddy Harry Diamond, and Mark goes on to tell a story about how he nearly killed his caddy driving to Queensland.Plenty of feedback on the member/guest fee conversation, some different perspectives. And there is a short, yet brutal, whack for Nick and Mark from a wolfpacker called Dougie who is a Monty fan. And back onto caddies, former tour caddy Eddie Munster also wrote in about Monty.Nick gives two reasons why The Masters is the worlds greatest golf tournament, and Mark gives some feedback to FootJoy.We have a video sent in by wolfpacker Martin of his mate Steve who uses a putter, perhaps not exactly how it was intended....but seemingly successfully. The vision confuses Nick and Mark, if you watch it when the YouTube vodcast comes out, you'll see why...it is very unusual. And Nick and Mark discuss Rory's putting and make the statement that if he can address some putting issues, it is scary how good he will be, Nick describes the potential of Rory as 'domination'.And we finish with some fantastic news about a member at Lake Karrinyup who has achieved something quite special. We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Today's podcast is all about The Masters and the extraordinary tournament we watched. And of course, we start with Rory who was clearly already an incredible player, but is now a legend.Mark describes what we saw as 'breathtaking drama', and Nick and Mark just sit and chat about the tournament. We have no runsheet or plan for todays show, aside from to debrief on The Masters and talk about what we all saw in one of the great tournaments, and particularly on the final day, one of golfs great days.Nick describes what we saw from Rory as 'resilience', and admired how he continually would come back and never give up. Nick and Mark discuss a number of the holes, the shots, the ebb and flow moments. We discuss how Rory would have been feeling at those moments where it didn't go his way, and how he managed to come back every time. And on Rory's caddy Harry. Mark describes Harry as a 'good caddy', Nick says Rory needs a 'great caddy', and says that with a better caddy, Rory wins by 6 shots. Mark lists what he refers to as Harrys 'sackable offences during The Masters'.Nick raises the Monday Q Twitter page and how he loved following it during the tournament. He recommends that if you're not following it, get on board!Rory's shot on the 15th in the final round. Nick calls it the 'sexiest shot in golf'. Mark makes the claim that given the circumstances, the pressure, what was on the line, it was the greatest shot ever hit in golf.We discuss Justin Rose's performance, which obviously is overshadowed by Rory, however was brilliant. Nick and Mark full of admiration for Justin.Mark loved the commentary and was so pleased it was the traditional commentators. We discuss the footage of Rory in the Champions Locker Room for the first time. Beautiful to watch.Nick asks Mark how Rory will go over the next few tournaments, we discuss what they are and how he is placed.Nick says the round of the tournament was from Nick Dunlap, and explains why.A great Top 5 from Mark today, he lists what he feels are the Top 5 Mens Major Tournaments in the history of golf. How does the 2025 Masters rank?In the PING Global results, Nick says that Rory must now be considered the greatest ever European player. Mark agrees.Feedback today, as you might expect is all on The Masters. We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Nick O'Hern and Mark Allen have worn FootJoy their entire career, and given we do the pod from FootJoy and Titleist HQ we thought we'd grab the FootJoy Product Manager for Australia & New Zealand, Chris Patterson, to have a chinwag about golf shoes generally, trends, and some of what they've got coming. We discussed exactly what Chris does at FootJoy, and what he looks for when decided what to range for these markets. Chris talks about current trends in golf shoes, both for 'normal' golfers and Tour Pros. He runs us through some of the current range, and gives a sneak peak at a shoe coming out later in 2025....Nick and Mark are VERY excited for it.Mark asks what the key differences are between a normal shoe and a golf shoe, and why it is important. Nick asks how golf shoes have changed over the years. Is a shoe fitting beneficial? Clearly for tour pros it makes sense, but what about us normies? Chris talks to that.Mark is curious as to whether ball speed can be influenced by your golf shows, and Chris tells us about Justin Thomas and Cam Young and what has happened to their ball speed since changing shoes. Extraordinary.Nick and Mark both love the MyJoy concept and Nick asks what are some of the craziest things Chris has seen?A fascinating chat with Chris, the FootJoy Product Manager, and a great reminder of why FootJoy are the number one shoe (and glove) in golf.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Fantastic win from Warrnambool's favourite son Marc Leishman in Florida at the weekend, and we begin today's show chatting about the win....Marc becomes the third Aussie to win a tournament in the last couple of weeks, following Min Woo and Steve Allen. Mark loves the 'drive, chip, and putt' competition and thinks there should be more of them prior to tournaments. We discuss the elephant in the room, will we get the world feed for The Masters. Neither Nick or Mark has been able to get clarity. They're hopeful that we get Jim Nance and the traditional team. We discuss how wonderful Jim Nance is, and how long he has left commentating. Mark raises the LIV commentators. Nick and Mark feel that the LIV commentators get too excited too early in the tournaments.Nick says the Fedex Cup should be Matchplay, Mark says the 'handicap system reeks of someone who does not understand golf', and wants more matchplay in golf. We've had our Masters preview pod, but we can't help but talk about Augusta again. Mark asks Nick about the creek on 13, Nick explains how he approached it and why, plus which holes suit lefties and which suit righties. In a prelude to Nicks Top 5 'unwatchable golfers', despite his winning form, Nick and Mark comment that Brian Harman or, as we prefer to call him, Ricky, is a great putter with great power, but an 'unwatchable golfer'.Following some anonymous feedback to Mark, we discuss the prices clubs charge at members courses, specifically guest fees. What is causing it, is it too much? Mark would you like you to send in what your clubs member/guest fee structure is. Whilst we're talking complaints. Mark reckons Nick and Third Man have been taking advantage of his generosity, and he has a crack at both of them on the pod. Harsh.Plenty of feedback, lots on the aim point comments from last week, including a couple of whacks - and one wolfpacker calls Nick and Mark 'a couple of old grandpas'. Clearly they're wrong, neither have grandchildren. And wolfpacker Tom from California has sent in his swing for Nick and Mark to review.PING global. Big news. After last weeks excellent trumpet playing by Anthony from Woodlands, our lawyer Denis Denutto has reviewed the legalities around Timmy Trumpet. We may end up in court. So Nick has found a new, legal PING global results intro which he plays. Oh, and gives heaps of results. No masterclass this week, but thanks to Frank and the team at watchMynumbers it returns next week.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. It's Masters week and we kick off our Masters preview show with Nick and Mark sharing memories of some of their favourite moments, and of watching it when they were kids Nick talks about the first time he played Augusta, and what he did on the 12th green before the tournament. And he talks about the course preparation and some of the 'tricks' they use to keep the players on their toes.Mark asks Nick about the trickiest hole on the course, and wants to know from Nick what it's like when they call your name to the tee on day one.Onto this years Masters. Nick and Mark discuss the Aussies, and how they expect them to perform. Nick gives his view on each Aussie as to whether they will perform well or not.Nick expects Scottie Scheffler to win, Mark would love Rory to win given what he is looking to achieve with regards a grand slam. Both give some roughies who should play well. And then Nick gives us show and tell with some fantastic memorabilia from his times playing Augusta! We've decided to construct a Talk Birdie To Me multi exclusively for the Wolfpack on Betr - the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia. Lots of feedback on the international feed, and Nick and Mark have made their views clear. The overwhelming majority of feedback has been that people want the old feed back, however in fairness it hasn't been one-way traffic. We received a voicemail from Wolfpack member Tim from Perth with a different perspective, and he explains his thinking. We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Another feedback pod today with plenty of questions and another Wolfpack members swing for Nick and Mark to review. We start with a pic that you may have seen on socials about a golfer who thought his ticket to an Augusta practice round allowed him to play an actual practice round. A misunderstanding clearly, but quite funny, the twist is that Mark Allen was there and saw it happen live - he explains what happened from his angle.Feedback on a couple of recent masterclasses. XJ has a comment for Nick on his 3/4 swing masterclass, and John has a comment and question for Mark on his 'putting like a pro' masterclass last week.Alex watched Houston over the weekend and asks Nick and Mark a question about Gary Woodlands' caddy and aim point.Sue wrote in raving about the Indian Open at the weekend, and how great the course looked.Dom sent us a fun video which, initially, looked like a MAFs out-take, but took a very funny twist. You'l see it on the YouTube episode later today, but hear it on the pod now.Wayne has a question about players who have won The Masters directly after a lead-up event, Mark has done some research - there's a first for everything....Laurie asks a massive question which could derail the timing of the pod. It has to do with the politics and potential structure of PGA, DPWT and LIV.And Peter sent a video of his mate at King Island in for Nick and Mark to review his swing. If you want your swing, putting, or anything reviewed live on the pod, shoot a video in and we'll have a look.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. We have to start today's show discussing the fantastic performance of Min Woo Lee at the weekend, it was wonderful to see, albeit a nerve-wracking finish with Scheffler coming hard at him. Nick and Mark have plenty of praise for Min Woo of course, and plenty of props for his caddy Brian 'Bo' Martin who they give credit to for remaining calm under the pressure on that final day in particular. Nick and Mark say that is the benefit of a great caddy and that Bo is a 'superstar'.Nick tells a story about ignoring his caddy and doing something that he said he would never do on the 15th hole at Augusta, and tells Mark that Min Woo originally was not going to play in Houston at the weekend...phew! Mark comments on Gary Woodland's performance only 18-months after undergoing brain surgery.Nick and Mark have conducted what Mark calls a '60-minutes style' investigation into the international feed and has some disappointing news, but notes that if that is what is provided for The Masters, reaction will go 'nuclear', and that this is what happens when you 'listen to people'.An Australian Open update. Mark has heard that their are some significant financial challenges, he explains what they are, and says that 'James Sutherland needs to call Greg Norman immediately' to set up a meeting with Yasir.Mark's Top 5 today and he talks through his Top 5 'Seve Chips on the final hole' of all time. It's a ripper with some great audio clips, and vision if you're watching on YouTube. And in the PING Global results we chat with trumpeter Anthony, who works in the pro shop at Woodlands Golf Club in Melbourne and is a pretty handy trumpeter - he plays trumpet off a 3-handicap. Is he any good? We find out live on the pod! After that Nick runs us through a huge week of results, with two big Aussie winners this weekend in Min Woo Lee and Steve Allan, we hear some audio of Steve, and Nick and Mark rave about him as a bloke and a golfer. A hugely popular win.Feedback - more on the international feed, we can't possibly read it all, the pod would go 5-hours, but we touch on a couple, and a few comments on Mark's Monty story from last week including a wolf packer who asks Mark about the rumour that Monty kicked Marks ball off the tee at Huntingdale is true or not.....Mark tells the story.Ripper masterclass from Nick today where he talks us through Min Woo's putt off the final green and what we can learn from it.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. We've had plenty of feedback and questions coming in for Nick and Mark, so today a feedback pod. And Mark discusses Billy Horschel and how he appears to be muscling in on 'Nick O'Who' territory.Mark believes he has identified why the PGA/LIV talks have stalled, and he blames Tiger Woods. He explains on the pod.And we discuss the disaster that happened on the coverage of the Heritage Classic at the weekend. Nick had hoped it might be overlooked on the pod, it wasn't.After the turn, Nick has an update that he has sourced during the show on the reason for the world feed. We start today by talking about The Players, a wonderful tournament, and Nick and Mark discuss Rory's win. Mark believes it is time The Players became classed as a major, he loves the event. Nick agrees it is fantastic. Whilst Rory won, Nick has identified two things that he needs to do in order to win a (current) major this year, and he explains what they are and why they would make a huge difference. Mark has an observation on Rory's putting which we discuss. An interesting week for Rory, he won The Players, and also pinched a kids mobile phone. Reasonable behaviour or not? Nick and Mark give their view. And he made some interesting comments on The Champions Tour, which Ernie Els replied to, and we chat about.Mark asks Nick about the tree on the 6th tee, and we discuss the Brandel Chamblee and Phil McGinley discussion about LIV and the PGA.And we can't go to the turn without looking at how our Betr multi went on The Players.Top 5 from Mark today is his Top 5 notable non-wagglers. Nick runs around the world with PING global results. And in feedback, we have a couple of book suggestions from wolfpackers, and lots of feedback on Nick and Marks comments about what courses are suitable to host The Australian Open.We call John from Cootamundra, who tells us about a fantastic family Ambrose tournament this weekend - for more info you can call the pro shop here. And a cracking masterclass from Nick on the three-quarter shot. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf; The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data. Today a bonus pod where we open up the Talk Birdie To Me 'book club'. We originally considering discussing Red Dog, or Little Women, or Pride and Prejudice, but then we thought we'd discuss golf books instead. Seems to make sense. So today, Nick and Mark discuss some of their favourite books (listed below) and then we chat to film-maker and author Peter Dickson about his new golf book 'The Embedded Lie', which he describes as his 'love letter to golf'. So sit in your favourite chair, whack your feet up on a poufle, pour a lazy drink - and join the Talk Birdie To Me book club. And Mark tells a great story about Jean van de Velde in The Open!Nicks' favourite books:Harvey Penick - Little Red BookMark Fisher - The Golfer and the MillionaireDr Bob Rotella - Putting Out Of Your MindJohn Feinstein - A Good Walk SpoiledMarks' favourite books:Nick O'Hern - How to Play Your Best GolfNick O'Hern - Tour MentalitySteve Keipert and Tony Webeck- Aussies at The OpenPeter Thomson - Lessons I Have LearnedPaul Daley - Ben Hogan: The Yardstick of Golfing GreatnessPeter Dickson's book The Embedded Lie can be purchased here.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf; The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data. Plenty of feedback and questions for Nick O'Hern and Mark Allen on Talk Birdie To Me this week.Daniel was Nicks' caddy in San Francisco when he wore golf gear to the baseball and messaged us.Andrew has an idea about tournaments and getting more pros in them.Laurie has a thought about the Australian Open venues.George is after advice on golf swings and 'high hands'.Great message form Tony who won a huge prize with the Golf Clearance Outlet.Andrew reckons we missed a solid candidate for weirdest putters on the pro tour.Pommy has been listening to a podcast which he recommends, particularly for people who want to be a caddy.Mark saw an article in Golf Digest on rakes which he recommends for Mark Allen.Another Mark has a question on ball markers and the rules. And Adam gives Nick and Mark a whack over inconsistent terminology of something in golf.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf; The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data. A huge pod today, we start with Karl Vilips' fantastic win in Puerto Rico - amazing. Nick and Mark chat about his path to this point, from an Australian prodigy at 6-years old to PGA winner, how he did it and why he moved to the US so young. Nick chats about what impressed him about Karl's performance, and Mark raises his swing and suggests it may be the new modern swing. Nick would prefer to see Karl waggling, but at the same time he's doing pretty well without it!We discuss Jason Day's suble change in his putting. Nick raises some of the changes at Bay Hill and talks about playing that course.Mark raises 'fast greens' and says that whilst many golfers like to say they play them well, they are not ideal generally. We talk about ideal green speeds. The Australian Open dates, for all tournaments, are yet to be announced. Mark asks are Golf Australia serious about the Open or not? And he invites James Sutherland onto the pod to explain where it's at.Mark has heard that the discussions between the PIF and the PGA in Washington have broken down.Nick's Top 5 is on well known players who wore gloves to putt, in order of worst to best. It won't surprise you to know that it is in fact a Top 6. Surely by now this is an ACCC issue. Nick also tells a great story about the Golden Bear at a conference - very funny.Feedback today - including a call from David in Brisbane who is heading off next week to the Barossa for a boys drinking , ahem, golf trip and wants some advice on how to maintain energy and momentum under duress (ie: late nights, wines and beers). Also in feedback a couple of whacks for Mark. Always fun.PING global results - we're yet to resolve the trumpet situation. Watch this space. And Marks masterclass is on how 'locking your shirt' under your armpit can help your putting. Our intern Javier was in charge of audio, might explain why we fired him.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf; The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data. Today we're doing a bonus pod previewing The Players Championship this weekend at TPC Sawgrass, a wonderful event and one that Nick has played multiple times. Nick and Mark discuss the course, particularly the famous 17th hole and how it feels when you know it's getting close.Nick gives his view on the best way to play the course, what he did. Mark describes it as a 'hitters' course, Nick agrees and says you can't 'short game' you way around Sawgrass.Mark is bullish on a particular player. He calls up his Betr app and shows us what he's done - he's whacked 100 bucks on a player to win at 46-1. Nick doesn't agree and thinks this player is more likely to miss the cut. Ouch.We discuss the players who are a chance and why, with particular attention on the Aussies. And then, and this is a bit of fun, we call our mate Hummer at Betr and ask him to create a multi for Talk Birdie listeners that Nick and Mark have built. It's a very gettable 3-leg multi involving Jason Day, Scottie Scheffler and Ludvig Åberg. We're quietly confident, and the odds are attractive. But....this multi is only for Talk Birdie To Me wolfpackers and only on Betr. You can check it out here.Opening an account by the way takes about 90-seconds.Good luck, and remember to gamble responsibly. We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf; The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data. Well the pod gets off to a bad start when Mark decides to wear a Joe Highsmith style hat for the duration. Highly recommend you avoid watching this episode on YouTube when it is available. Some comments and questions to run through.Christopher has a comment on the suitability of wearing golf attire, and Nick tells a very funny story about going to the baseball in the US looking decidedly 'golfy'. Rochey has a comment and question on Marks patented 59 ranking system.Tom went to LIV, and loved it, but has a question about the shotgun starts.Warwick has an idea for the pod.And Anthony has a question about Marks changes to his short game, and how players from the past dealt with a specific issue. We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf; The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data. Another fun pod today. We start with the huge win of Ryan Peake in the New Zealand Open, without being dismissive of the past, it is a wonderful redemption story and Mark says a great example of what second chances can do. Mark and Nick both want to get Ryan on the pod when he is back in Australia. However, Mark is not a fan of the NZ Open being a Pro-Am calling it 'garbage'. Nick understands why it is and proposes a compromise approach, Mark then offers an alternate compromise.Jake Knapp's 59 at PGA National needs to be analysed by Mark Allen's patented 'Talk Birdie To Me 59 Analyser'. Which he does. Nick discusses Jakes plug shot out of the water.Joe Highsmith. What is with that hat, and what about that putting? Discussions are had, and laughs are had. Both are ridiculous. And why does Mark Allen call Ricky Pointing a 'disgrace' ? Trouble in paradise. We discuss Luke Clanton getting his card and his Dad's beautiful reaction, which gives Nick an idea about Q-School mini's...he reckons riveting viewing. Speaking of riveting viewing, for the wrong reasons. Mark plays the famous video of Joe Daly at Q-School in 2000. Brutal. We play a video of Jeff Guan's driving, looking pretty sharp. A tough road for him, but we wish him all the best.Marks Top 5 today is a cracker. The Top 5 ridiculous putting actions on tour that he has seen. It is very funny. Has he missed any? Let us know.Couple of stunning reno's in Sydney: Royal Sydney, and NSW Golf Club, we look at some pics of both and discuss.Lots of results to run through in the PING Global results, in what has been a big week for lefties. Unsurprisingly, Nick is pleased with that. And we run through some feedback, Mark gets a whack from Wolfpack member Don, and Mark gives tour pro David Micheluzzi a whack (again!). This could end in court. Lucky we've got our lawyer Dennis Denuto on retainer. And a great masterclass from Nick, inspired by Jake Knapp, on how to play plugged lies.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf; The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data. Lots to discuss on the pod today. As you know we're filming the pod for YouTube, and this is week two. We're still ironing out the bugs, and we had a big bug this week, so no YouTube show this week - but we'll sort it for next week.Onto the pod - Mark bumped into Marc Leishman a day or so ago, after Marc played in Warrnambool at the weekend with his Dad and Son. Nick and Mark discuss Marc's near win at St Andrews, and other Aussie performances at the venue.Nick and Mark reveal why pros never ask another pro how they played, apparently one of the unwritten rules of being a pro is to never tell other pros about your round. We discuss the likelihood, or not, of LIV players being welcomed into The Players Championship in March. Outside of those already exempt, will they be welcomed in? Mark asks Nick if there will be room made for them. What about PING's Brian Campbell winning the Mexican Open. His first win in 178 events. And he did it in well, perhaps with a bit of luck on one hole in the playoff.Nick and Mark discuss chipping with a strong top hand grip, which some players do, but it is rare, and not ideal. Mark puts Nick on the spot to say what current tour pros have an orthodox, or unorthodox swing. One tour pro's swing, according to Nick and Mark, when you look at it would not make the Kingston Heath pennant team.Speaking of swings - Nick has brought a video in of Akie Iwai, whose swing he loves. We watch a video of Tiger Woods and what he calls the 'most embarrassing moment of his golfing career'. Mark is angry over something that has happened at a golf course in Wales.Nick's Top 5 (a Top 6 actually) is on players who had a lucky break which helped them win a major.Plenty of feedback, lots on our chat with Bradley Hughes and James Watson - watch them at the links. And we run through some entries, and announce the winner of our caption contest - who wins $200 to spend at Golf Clearance Outlet.Heaps of results to run through with the PING global results from Nick, interrupted after Mark's phone decides to play a role in the show. Awkward.;And a masterclass from Mark on 'nervous chipping'.We're live at Titleist and FootJoy HQ, we're here thanks to our great partners:The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data. Mark Allen particularly is a bit excited today as we have one of his heroes on the pod, the legendary Bradley Hughes has joined us at the Talk Birdie To Me desk.Hugo tells us how he got into golf, and Mark asks him why he chose golf over football - he was a very good footy player. He also talks about his experiences with Greg Norman as a young player. Nick asks Hugo about his acceleration and ball striking. We find out about the process of turning pro, and how his first tournament went. Hugo had a dream start to his pro career, playing very well, very early.Hugo describes his first year in Europe as a 'disaster' and explains why. He tells Nick and Mark what the pinnacle of Hugo's tournament career was. He played in the inaugural Presidents Cup and explains what that was like, and when he had a crack at his playing partner Nick Price.Mark asks Hugo about his coaching techniques, and he explains why he initially ignores grip and swing, and just teaches people how to flush the ball. He tells us about his 'guinea pig' student. Hugo gets into the simulator to show us what he teaches - apologies for the audio here, we're still working on that mic, but you'll be able to hear his comments - and when the video goes up you can watch Hugo in the simulator.Hugo explains and shows how his DownUnder board works. It's a game changer and you can order at the website here and he has a website with over 600 training videos that you can watch, as a member, here. Cheap as chips considering the calibre of Hugo, and the information he's outlining.A cracking guest pod, and great to have the legendary Bradley Hughes dropping by.We're live at Titleist and FootJoy HQ, we're here thanks to our great partners:The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data. Our Guest today on Talk Birdie To Me is James Watson, Senior Vice President of Production at LIV Golf, so a big gig! James tells us some of the figures from LIV Adelaide, they are impressive. He talks about how they had a very short timeframe to get the first London event up, and it was only in Adelaide that he felt 'LIV had arrived'. We find out about James career, and how it led him to his current role with LIV, via Cricket Australia, Asian Tour Golf, and Tennis Australia. James talks about the graphics on screen during golf, and why he believes they are so important. He goes on to talk about what he calls the 'second screen experience' and the importance of this for fans.Nick asks James about the drone tracer, and James explains how they developed this innovation at LIV. Mark asks if James is happy with the LIV Adelaide product, and if they have more in the tank. He says that it is the best era for participation in 30-years, however that is not yet translating to viewership. James tells us what it's like being in the LIV Production truck with 60 cameras to direct, he talks about the importance of having a tight team and great communication lines. A disclaimer: today we're using the Talk Birdie video gear for the first time. Audio goes up first, and video at 7pm the same day. Please bear with us, we're still learning how it works, what buttons do what, and the various camera angles. So the first few shows will be a bit rocky here and there - we will 100% screw some stuff up. If you see a camera shot pointing at the floor for 20 seconds you'll know why.!Onto the pod. We start with Nick's report on Mount Lawley following the recent OCM makeover, Nick was in Perth for the weekend and had a run at the course, did he enjoy it?LIV Adelaide, a wild success, looked great on TV, the crowds were huge, Mark has about ten people he knows who were there who said it was the best sporting event they've even been to. Mark talks about how the players have great stories, and attract crowds, which is what golf needs - big names. Nick didn't go this year, but he went two years ago and talks about the noise and vibe. We discuss the TV ratings and how they went.Tiger, Adam Scott and Jay Monahan met with Trump, and Tiger made some comments following that meeting about a potential unification of the different parties.Has Joaquin Niemann given away the location of The Australian Open? And what Aussie rising PGA star was seen deep in conversation with multiple LIV teams in Adelaide. The money is clearly attractive - Mark asks Nick if Alana would have allowed him to turn down that kind of money?Torrey Pines. How excited about Ludvig Åberg is Marko? Pretty excited as it turns out. Nick and Mark discuss his performance, and Mark pops into the simulator to show us some examples of Ludvig's pre-shot routine. Apologies for the audio issue here, the mic in the simulator was playing up - we'll fix it for next week. Mark says Ludwig will be a Top 10 machine, and will win a major this year. Which leads to Marks Top 5 - golfers who he believes will win a major in 2025.We have an update on the PING global opener. Nick is pumped as there were 3 PING players this weekend. Lots of feedback from the Wolfpack, keep it coming on socials, emails, carrier pigeons.Mark asks Nick - what do you have to do to be considered a 'black belt golfer'? We hear a voicemail from listener Mark with a question on slow play. Nicks masterclass on is on Ludwig, and again apologies for the audio - we'll sort for next week.Remember this episode will be on YouTube at 7pm Wednesday 19th, AEDST.We're live at Titleist and Footjoy HQ, we're here thanks to our great partners:The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data. Massive week in golf as always, so much to talk about. We kick off the show, unfortunately, by Mark singing happy birthday to the Shark. Just what Greg would have wanted....an out of tune birthday song. However after that Mark plays some audio of Brandel Chamblee talking about the discussions between the PGA and Trump this week. Leads to a chat about what it might mean for a unified game, and with Golf Australia CEO James Sutherland just having returned from Saudi Arabia, and a media conference scheduled by GA at LIV Adelaide this Thursday .... is there news on the horizon ? It does seem as though there may be, and we discuss what it may be about - and what we hope it is about. We have no idea, so we're just speculating.Nick says that he has heard a rumour the Australian Open's Women's tournament will be held in Western Australia which he's excited about. He also mentions the the 'pace of play' policy coming in from the LPGA.More LIV chat - the night tournament in Riyadh had no spectators and was, according to Nick and Mark, arguably LIV's worst event - and they're about to swing into their best event, LIV Adelaide.Mark reads out the comments tour pro Marcus Fraser said on ABC Radio about the Australian Open.Changes coming to the Monday Qualifier structure in some tournaments ....are Nick and Mark happy about this? Mark talks us through the remarkable performance of Will Chandler, the Monday Qualifier who beat Scottie Scheffler by 6. We discuss some of the great Monday Qualifier stories. And this inspires Nick's Top 5.Wolfpacker Greg calls on the hotline with a question about governments and their support of other sports, but not golf to the extent he feels could be provided.Plenty of feedback today to run through and during feedback Nick gives his tip for the Aussie he reckons might go all the way at Torrey Pines. We're checking our Betr app as we speak to suss the odds. Then a voicemail comes in from Jon with a fun question for Nick and Mark. We've had movement on the disaster that is the PING global intro music...thanks to a couple of wolfpackers. Today we have a chat with the Chairman of Golf NSW Michael Medway about their support program for younger golfers on their journey into the big league. He talks about the players they are supporting, and talks about Corey Lamb in particular and why they are investing in him. he tells us how the arrangements are structured, how the funding is released, the non-financial support they provide.Michael also talks about what they have done with their prize money and payments for players in tournaments. Michael explains why Golf NSW are separate to the national body, and why he has no desire to 'hand the keys' to Golf NSW to Golf Australia. He comments that his member clubs would 'revolt' if they did, and one of issues he sees is that Golf Australia is 'not run by golf people'. Michael says that the Golf Australia board is 'narrow-sighted' in their treatment of The Australian Open, and goes on to say that he wants to protect NSW events from what has happened to many other state opens saying that the Vic Open is a 'shadow of its' former self'.We're coming from Titleist and Footjoy HQ, and we're here thanks to our great partners:The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data. And Nick talks about working with his old coach Neil Simpson who Grant has also had a lesson with.Jason Day's outfit at Pebble. We discuss following a question from Wolfpacker Paul. Mark tells a story about clothing at Huntingdale from years gone by. A funny question, in the sense of how it came about, from Steve about the Webex Series. And a serious question asked about James Sutherland, phrased a little bluntly, but whether it's directed at us or somebody else, we'll always discuss it.And we finish with some fun stories about shagging balls. We're coming from Titleist and Footjoy HQ, and we're here thanks to our great partners:The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data. This week Mark tries to, after 5-finger discounting a pair of FootJoys a couple of weeks ago, to do the same with a Titleist putter that he has found. In fairness it is quite stunning. Then his eyes turn to a new pair of FootJoys. As Al Czervik said, the mans a menace. We discuss Pebble Beach. Mark loved the drone shots, and Nick is a fan of the drone shot tracer. The weather was a bit mixed, leads to a chat as to why some golfers play well in the rain and others don't. Nick has a theory which he talks through. Mark tells a story about playing in driving rain in Scotland.Nick decides to have one final crack at a replacement for Wolfpack. He's had another dinner party with the Mount Lawley Toffee Nose Crowd *. Does he succeed? Spoiler alert, no.Minjee Lee is using a long putter, Nick and Mark discuss and talk about whether you can go back and forth.Mark has been looking at the TGL ratings and talks to them, and about Tiger being pinged by the shot clock. And then a voicemail comes in from Pete with a comment/question on slow play. Nick has another idea to solve slow play....could be a bit evil but it could work. And Mark has some audio of the loudest noise ever on a golf course, we play it.After the Turn, Marks Top 5 is on the most amazing up and downs he has seen. We get to PING Global results and we have a structural issue....we have no intro. Nick didn't like the AI one Mark created, and we haven't come up with any other option, so we are in a hole. Unprofessional.Lots of feedback, including a 59 for Mark to rate - dangerous after incurring the wrath of David Micheluzzi a couple of weeks agoAnd Nick's masterclass is simple but powerful. Oh and why does Mark call Mike Cocking from OCM an arsehole ? Awkward. As usual, unfortunately, Mark wants to finish the show with an AI song created on the spot. Does it go well? This week again the pod starts with a discussion about slow play, following the legendary Dottie Peppers comments at the weekend - more on Dottie later in the pod. Nick and Mark discuss slow play and how it is endemic in the game at the moment. Nick describes it as a 'joke' at the moment.Nick watched Jak Carter play at the weekend and he and Mark chat about his performance - Mark wants to know if Jak is still an exceptional iron player.Torrey Pines at the weekend copped some weather, but worse a number of withdrawals with illness - including Marks fave Ludvig Åberg. We discuss Torrey Pines, and Nick gives his somewhat unflattering view of the course. He loves the location, but feels the course is not up to scratch. Mark wants to know could a redo be done? Nick would like to see the rough shaved down a bit around the greens, it wouldn't salvage the course but it would make it interesting.Nick raises the movie Invincible and recommends it a watch for the Talk Birdie 'family'....more on the name shortly.Hotline rings, and it's Anthony from Melbourne who stopped playing golf for a numbers of years, but is back playing with his son and tells us how he's going.Mark was reading a Top 100 list this week, the Top 100 Links courses - voted by course architects. Regular listeners will know that there has been trouble in paradise. Following a dinner party at Nick O'Hern's where some of his friends felt the name 'wolfpack' to describe Talk Birdie listeners was exclusionary to women - ironic considering there are females wolves. At this link is a one hour video on wolves which apparently explains that 'wolf' is multi gender. We say apparently because we got bored about 20-seconds into it, but you may like to watch it.Anyway, long story short, we asked for your suggestions on alternative names, and today we run through what you've said and narrow it down to four options, which we will put a poll up on Twitter to vote on. Have a listen to the pod, then make sure to vote on Twitter in our poll here. If you're not following us on Twitter yet...please do.Oh and by the way, Mark has now purchased an account on this AI music site, and he has made a tribute song for Nick - against our better judgement we close the pod with it.
