Send us a textIn this episode, we're thrilled to welcome Tara, a survivor of Hurricane Dorian! Tara, her wife, their child, and their five dogs faced the terrifying winds of up to 185 mph, with homes being torn apart around them. They had to swim for their lives as the ocean-water rose rapidly, and at one point, they were left with just a couple of inches of space in their house before it was completely submerged. Tara and her family crafted a makeshift raft to hold onto for safety as the winds howled around them, all while facing the terrifying sound of debris crashing nearby. With no power, they were stuck in the pitch black for over 24 hours, all while managing the emotional toll of keeping their child and pets calm amidst the storm's fury. We also discuss the critical importance of mental health and the reality of climate change, reminding everyone that preparation is key. You never think it could happen to you until it does. This episode is truly gripping—I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! Artists like Shawn Mendes, Cold Play, Paramore, 21 Pilots and The Frey all have lyrics to songs that reference being Helpless and Hopeless. This can give you a connection to not feeling alone and a way to reach out for help. As Shawn Mendes sings "It is Not in Our Blood." to give up. "My Blood... Your Blood, Our Blood..." In Part 1 of this 2 part series about Blood Oaths & Magick, we will be exploring one of the most prominent and memorable scenes in the Practical Magic film: Sally & Gillian's blood oath. It is clear that the sisters have a connection that transcends time & space as Gillian makes a promise that Sally in turn uses to save Gillian's life. In today's episode, we'll acknowledge the absence of the sisters' blood oath in the books, however we pick out a "dark" characteristic that distinguishes it from the blood in the film, which author Alice Hoffman did not include until much later on in the series. Join us as we analyze the appearance of blood magick in the books, explore TV tropes and cultural practices, and take a trip down memory lane as the Stinas recount their own comical personal experiences! The Glories of Our Blood and Stateby James Shirley (1596-1666)The glories of our blood and state     Are shadows, not substantial things; There is no armour against Fate;     Death lays his icy hand on kings:               Sceptre and Crown               Must tumble down,And in the dust be equal madeWith the poor crooked scythe and spade. Some men with swords may reap the field,     And plant fresh laurels where they kill:But their strong nerves at last must yield;     They tame but one another still:               Early or late               They stoop to fate,And must give up their murmuring breathWhen they, pale captives, creep to death. The garlands wither on your brow;     Then boast no more your mighty deeds!Upon Death's purple altar now      See where the victor-victim bleeds.               Your heads must come               To the cold tomb:Only the actions of the justSmell sweet and blossom in their dust. Your Blood of Kings Highlander Podcast hosts Kevin Reitzel and Lee Fillingsness are recording a limited series on how we would “fix” the Highlander TV Show IMDB lowest rated episodes. On this episode, its the Blood of Kings fans choice! Our Blood of Kings Facebook group friends have chosen which Highlander low rated episode to fix! We suggest how to fix and change Season 1, episode 4 'Bad Day In Building A', to make it a better episode. We have some ground rules for "The Fixening"!: - Try to realistically change the episode for the better. Keep the budget and shooting locations in mind. Don't try to make the production move to another country and bring in other actors. - Incorporate the same actors, guest stars.  - You can remove (fire) an actor. - Incorporate the same setting and flashbacks. - You can change the mortality of a character(s) - Try not to change the main actors motives to what they do in the episode that may be considered out of character throughout the series.   Blood of Kings Highlander Podcast Contact Information: - FANDOM PODCAST NETWORK YouTube Channel:  https://www.youtube.com/c/FandomPodcastNetwork - Blood of Kings Podcast Master Feed:  fpnet.podbean.com/category/blood-of-kings/ - Twitter: @BloodOfKingsPod / https://twitter.com/BloodOfKingsPod - Instagram: BloodOfKingsPod / https://www.instagram.com/bloodofkingspod/ - Facebook: Blood of Kings: A Highlander Fandom Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1551389528504825 - Facebook: Blood of Kings: A Highlander CCG Collectible Card Game & Gaming Discussion Group Page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/273198053027339 Blood of Kings Host & Guest Contact Info: - Email: BloodOfKingsPodcast@gmail.com - Kevin Reitzel on Twitter & Instagram: @spartan_phoenix - Lee Fillingsness on Twitter: @TheWayOfTheWay / Instagram: @the_way_of_the_way - Kyle Wagner on Twitter: @akylew / Instagram: @akylefandom TeePublic / Blood of Kings Store: https://www.teepublic.com/t-shirts?query=fandom-podcast-network-blood-of-ki…

Brooklyn-based writer/journalist Maggie Serota (Spin, Esquire, Rolling Stone) joins the pod to discuss the mysteries of Steven Seagal's movie career at Warner Bros. in the late eighties through the mid nineties with a deep dive into his bizarre 1991 Brooklyn-set crime thriller Out For Justice. This was clearly Seagal's attempt at being taken seriously as an actor, a pretentious mafia drama originally titled The Price of Our Blood with several allusions to On the Waterfront, an opening title card quoting playwright Arthur Miller, an overqualified supporting cast and showy Seagal acting monologues. Warner Bros. hacked this ego trip down to a standard-issue 90 minute Seagal actioner, and the studio-imposed results are fascinating. Along the way Maggie and I talk through the enigma of Seagal - a cipher, a relentless fabulist, a movie star seemingly created in a laboratory who let the power go to his head, and a bit of a creep (allegedly! allegedly!) Plus: a little chat about how the first Creed film hilariously skips over the details of how Adonis Creed's father died, and this month's 30th anniversary of The KLF's album The White Room. Follow Maggie Serota on Twitter. Check out Maggie's new podcast, Three Things With Maggie & Mike "Man of Dishonor" - the notorious Spy magazine article on Steven Seagal's personal conduct, by John Connolly, July-August 1993 issue "Seagal Under Siege", Ned Zeman, Vanity Fair, October 2002 - this article provides background on Seagal's longtime producer Julius Nasso who had a major hand in Out For Justice, and details the attempted (and partly successful) shakedown of Seagal by the mob. Marc Quinn: Creating 100 sculptures of refugees

British artist Marc Quinn has been one of the world's leading contemporary artists for over 30 years. A prominent member of the group known as the Young British Artists (or YBAs) who dominated the British art scene in the 1990s, his high-profile works have included Alison Lapper Pregnant, for the inaugural fourth plinth sculpture in London’s Trafalgar Square; and Self, a series of self-portraits of his own head - made out of ten pints of his own blood - cast and frozen every five years. In this episode of In the Studio, Marc Quinn takes Edwina Pitman behind the scenes of an ambitious new work called 100 Heads, in which he documents the stories, and casts in concrete the heads, of 100 refugees. Spurred by the images and news reports of the refugee crisis in 2015, Marc began to make plans for not-for-profit public artworks to both raise awareness and money for refugees around the world. 100 Heads is being created in part therefore to raise funds for another ongoing Marc Quinn public artwork called Our Blood, in which 2,000 litres of frozen human blood - drawn from 10,000 resettled refugees, celebrities and other participants - will be encased in a pavilion on the steps of the New York Public Library in 2021. From the initial meeting and interviewing refugees, through scanning, moulding and casting the concrete, Marc reveals the many processes as well as the technical and logistical challenges of creating 100 portrait heads of people from all over the world. The eventual creation will, he hopes, be a monument to our common humanity, one that emphasises through the power of art, that more unites than divides us.
