I will be sharing with you today Jesus and the Samaritan Woman John 4:1-12 NLT Verse 1: Jesus knew the Pharisees had heard that he was baptizing and making more disciples than John Verse 2: Though Jesus himself didn't baptize them—his disciples did). Verse 3 So he left Judea and returned to Galilee. Verse 4 He had to go through Samaria on the way. Verse 5 Eventually he came to the Samaritan village of Sychar, near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Verse 6 Jacob's well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. Verse 7 Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” Verse 8 He was alone at the time because his disciples had gone into the village to buy some food. Verse 9 The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?” 10 Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” 11 “But sir, you don't have a rope or a bucket,” she said, “and this well is very deep. Where would you get this living water? 12 And besides, do you think you're greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his animals enjoyed?” ——————————————————- New Living Translation (NLT) Holy Bible, New Living Translation, copyright © 1996, 2004, 2015 by Tyndale House Foundation. Sunday, 22nd September 2024 John 4:1-42 Close encounters... The Samaritan Woman Khumbulani Sibanda preaching
John 4:3-29 English Standard Version 3 he left Judea and departed again for Galilee. 4 And he had to pass through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob's well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.[a] 7 A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” 13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again.[b] The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 17 The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband'; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” 19 The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.” 27 Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” 28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” Footnotes John 4:6 That is, about noon John 4:14 Greek forever

But immediately, there is a problem because we are all so different that it seems impossible that any one thing could satisfy all of us.To address this, let's turn to the Gospel of John, chapter 4, where Jesus meets a woman at a well. Let's explore this passage and see how Jesus offers satisfaction and fulfillment in our lives. The Encounter with the Samaritan Woman (John 4:1-30)Background (Verses 1-6): Jesus learns that the Pharisees are aware of His growing influence, so He leaves Judea for Galilee, passing through Samaria. He arrives at Jacob's well in Sychar, tired and thirsty, and sits down to rest while His disciples go into town to buy food. The Conversation (Verses 7-15): A Samaritan woman comes to draw water, and Jesus asks her for a drink. She is surprised because Jews do not associate with Samaritans. Jesus tells her that if she knew who He was, she would ask Him for "living water." The woman, not understanding, questions how He can provide this water without anything to draw it with. Jesus explains that whoever drinks the water He gives will never thirst again, as it will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life. The woman asks for this water to avoid coming to the well repeatedly. The Revelation (Verses 16-26): Jesus shifts the conversation, telling her to call her husband. When she admits she has no husband, Jesus reveals His knowledge of her five previous husbands and her current situation. The woman perceives Him as a prophet and brings up the religious divide between Jews and Samaritans. Jesus explains that true worship is not about location but worshiping in spirit and truth. He then reveals Himself as the Messiah. The Response (Verses 27-30): The disciples return, surprised to find Jesus talking with a woman. The woman leaves her water jar, goes into the town, and tells the people to come and see the man who told her everything she ever did, wondering if He could be the Messiah. The townspeople come to see Jesus. The Brief Interaction with the Disciples (John 4:31-38)Spiritual Sustenance (Verses 31-34): The disciples urge Jesus to eat, but He tells them that His food is to do the will of the one who sent Him and to finish His work. This indicates that His satisfaction comes from fulfilling God's mission. The Harvest (Verses 35-38): Jesus tells the disciples to look at the fields, which are ripe for harvest, signifying the readiness of people to receive the gospel. He explains that the one who reaps receives wages and gathers fruit for eternal life, and both the sower and the reaper can rejoice together. Jesus sent them to reap what others have sown, emphasizing the collective effort in God's work.Support the Show.Jeremy McCandless is creating podcasts and devotional resources | PatreonHelp us continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com
Evangelism involves sharing the message of Jesus Christ and the salvation He offers. Here are key principles according to the Bible: 1. Pray for Guidance and Boldness - Prayer is essential for effective evangelism (Ephesians 6:18-20). - Ask God for boldness and the right opportunities to share the Gospel (Acts 4:29). 2. Live a Godly Life: - Your life should reflect the message you share (Matthew 5:16). - A righteous life can attract others to Christ (1 Peter 2:12). 3. Understand the Gospel - Be clear about the core message: Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). - Explain that salvation is by grace through faith, not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9). 4. Build Relationships - Engage with people where they are, as Paul did (1 Corinthians 9:22). - Build trust and genuine friendships (John 13:34-35). 5. Share Your Testimony - Share your personal story of how you came to faith (1 Peter 3:15). - Your experience can be powerful in connecting with others. 6. Use Scripture - The Bible is the foundation for your message (Hebrews 4:12). - Use relevant verses to explain the Gospel (Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, John 3:16). 7. Be Prepared for Questions: - Be ready to answer questions and objections with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15). - Study and understand the Bible to provide clear answers (2 Timothy 2:15). 8. Rely on the Holy Spirit: - Trust the Holy Spirit to work in the hearts of those you speak to (John 16:8-11). - Pray for the Spirit's guidance and power (Acts 1:8). 9. Follow Up and Disciple - Evangelism doesn't end with a single conversation; it's important to help new believers grow in their faith (Matthew 28:19-20). - Encourage them to join a church community and study the Bible. By incorporating these biblical principles, you can share the message of Jesus effectively and compassionately. The Bible provides numerous examples of evangelism. Here are a few significant ones: 1. Jesus and the Samaritan Woman (John 4:1-42) - Context: Jesus speaks with a Samaritan woman at a well, breaking cultural norms. -Approach: He begins with a simple request for water, leading to a deep conversation about her life and spiritual matters. - Outcome: The woman believes in Jesus and brings many from her town to hear Him, resulting in many conversions. 2. Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch (Acts 8:26-40) - Context: Philip, led by the Holy Spirit, meets an Ethiopian official reading Isaiah. - Approach: Philip asks if the eunuch understands what he's reading and explains the passage, relating it to Jesus. - Outcome: The eunuch believes and is baptized, rejoicing as he continues his journey. 3. Peter at Pentecost (Acts 2:14-41): - Context: After receiving the Holy Spirit, Peter addresses a crowd in Jerusalem during Pentecost. - Approach: He explains the fulfillment of prophecy and proclaims Jesus' death and resurrection. - Outcome: About 3,000 people repent, believe, and are baptized, forming the early Christian community. 4. Paul in Athens (Acts 17:16-34) - Context: Paul is distressed by the idolatry in Athens and speaks at the Areopagus. - Approach: He starts by acknowledging their religiosity and uses an altar to an unknown god to introduce the true God. - Outcome: Some mock him, but others are intrigued, and a few become believers. 5. Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles (Matthew 10:5-15) - Context: Jesus sends His twelve disciples to the towns of Israel. - Approach: He instructs them to preach the Kingdom of Heaven, heal the sick, raise the dead, and drive out demons, relying on God's provision. - Outcome: They spread the message widely, with varying reception, preparing the way for Jesus' ministry. 6. Paul and Silas in Philippi (Acts 16:11-34) - Context: In Philippi, Paul and Silas meet Lydia and later are imprisoned for casting out a spirit. - Approach: They pray and sing hymns in --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pastor-lucy-paynter/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pastor-lucy-paynter/support

The Samaritan Woman - John 4:4-26https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ordhsDeAt60Jesus reveals for the first time that he is the Messiah – not to the Jews or the Pharisees or Sadducees but to a Samaritan woman who has led a colourful life. He is breaking all social and religious norms in the process and blowing apart any pre conceived ideas about who Jesus came to save!Phil Moore: “John shows us in the first few chapters of this book that devout Jews are not good enough to be accepted, he now adds that wicked Samaritans are not bad enough to be rejected”When Jews travelled from Judah to Galilee they would go the long way round across the Jordan River rather than go through Samaria. Rabbis were not allowed to speak to women in public including their own wives under Jewish law – and yet here is Jesus meeting a woman in public, in Samaria, telling her that he is the living water she needs to change her life forever! This is a wonderful gospel moment giving us all hope – all can receive God's spirit – no longer just in the temple but now he lives in our hearts – This is the gospel message in a nutshell! For Jews the temple in Jerusalem is the place of worship – “The Holy of Holies” and “The Holy Place” – Only accessible by the High Priest/Priests - Behind the great curtain separating God's Holy presence from sinful people – this was 60' high, 30' wide and 6” thick! Then there was the Court Of Israel for men and a wall, then the Court of Women and a wall and then outside the actual temple was the Court of Gentiles – that's where we would be, as far away from God as is possible! BUT Jesus coming changes everything!Hebrews 10:11-12So what happens? Matthew 27:45-46v50-52The curtain had to come down because it hindered access to God's presence. Jesus came to restore our RELATIONSHIP to God – access is no longer in a building, it's in your heart by the power of the Holy Spirit - Christ in you the Hope of Glory (Colossians 1) – no matter who you are – Worship him in Spirit and Truth. v14FRESH – Daily refreshed by the Holy Spirit – bringing life to us daily – A fresh touch from Jesus every dayHow do you feel this morning? Fresh or dry? Full of life or not? Same old Church week in week out- nothing changes? We pray – Come Holy Spirit – Have your way – Do we really mean it – what are our expectations when we pray that? Let's expect him to come in power and change things – this womans life was changed forever by one meeting with Jesus and yet we can meet with him every day.Whatever we need is met in Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit – If we are dry we need Fresh Water – Why? Because we leak, live in a fallen world, sin daily and need fresh water to empower us – We need a fresh start just as the Samaritan woman!v23What does the Holy Spirit do?John 16:13He guides us into truth by revealing Jesus and witnesses with our spirit that we are sons and daughters of God Romans 8:16TRUTH – Brings us into all truthWITNESS – Our spirit witnesses with the Holy SpiritDISCERNMENT – Truth instead of lies – Discerning of SpiritsSo what's the result of this encounter?v39To finish - a reading from the Book of Mysteries by Jonathan Cahn – The RuachQuestions1.How did your spirit react when you watched the clip?2.Remember your own conversion – How did you feel and how do you feel now looking back?3.How does this story open up the scriptures and specifically about the temple and worship and our hearts?4.Discuss the reading “The Ruach” – what can we lear

In this meditation on the Samaritan Woman (John 4:5-42), Fr. Anthony continues his series on mystagogy by talking about the wonder that there is such a thing as water and a glass to hold it, moves on from there to living water and chalices, and from there to seeing beauty even in our enemies. If nothing else, it's interesting to hear what Fr. Anthony sounds like when he gets a decent night's sleep. Enjoy the show!

#Prayer #Pray #Gift #God #Praying Watch the Video Can you enter into the world of a billionaire? - Into their family? - If they are good and generous, they might help us. - But I am not sure if anyone would allow a poor person into their family. Ø Through prayer, we enter into the ‘world of God' Prayer as God's Gift Ø Therefore, to enter into it, we need to get God's permission or invitation Ø What right do we have to get God's invitation or permission? Ø Who are you? Ø Whatever or whoever we are, we are NOTHING. Ø The pandemic has taught us this in a harder way, though we knew it theoretically. Many adjectives are used to describe life and important ones could be - temporary and uncertain. Ø The Holy Bible says: “Lord, what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them? They are like a breath; their days are like a fleeting shadow” (Psalms 144:3-4). “All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return” (Ecclesiastes 3:20). “For dust you are and to dust you will return” (Genesis 3:19). “The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; 16 the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.” (Psalms 103:15-16) “All people are like grass, and all their gloryis like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall” (1 Peter 1:24) Jesus Talks With a Samaritan Woman (John 4:1-26) “I am thirsty” (John 19:28). This is the message from our Women's Bible Study series Women of the Bible on 4/6/2021 titled "The Samaritan Woman" John 4:5-30 with Pat Jackson.
Most people have heard about the Jewish and Samaritan division. We understand the tension of a Jewish man sticking up a private conversation with a Samaritan woman. But most miss the bigger reality of Jesus' conversation. The language of division—gender, ethnicity, place of worship—is hers. Jesus instead offers something new and better—living water, Spirit, and truth.
In this episode you’ll hear of Jesus’ thirst for you and your salvation. The Samaritan Woman - John 4:5-42When. catechumens preparing for baptism are present, the Cycle A Readings are proclaimed on this Sunday.

Jesus and the Samaritan WomanTopic: Jesus' LifeIn our fourth episode of Bible Nerds we're joined by John Schirle and Nick Oyler. John is the first overseas missionary my brothers and I got to know well at a young age and his passionate life of service has inspired many to follow Jesus closely. This episode has some background noise we weren't able to get rid of, but it also has some great notes on this well-known story. Pastor Shawn Thornton October 6, 2019 Conversations That Matter
Jesus was constantly breaking down barriers and going to places and speaking to people that he “shouldn’t” have sought out. In one story, Jesus makes the radical decision to speak to a person who was 1. A Samaritan, 2. A Woman, and 3. An Outsider—all big no-no’s in his day. Jesus sees her—sees her story, her worth, and her truth and he invites her to drink of the living water that satisfies the soul and assures her that there’s not a set of behaviors or places that connect to you to God, but instead it’s being open to God from the depth of your spirit and the truth of who you are.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes into your life. All of us long for fulfilment, but too often the places we look for it fail to satisfy. In this talk, David looks at Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan Woman, and considers how Jesus meets our thirst for fulfilment.
Sometimes we need to debate or wrestle with Christ to see the gift of salvation being offered to us and the world.

In this episode of the Blessed + Bossed Up podcast, we continue our journey through "Battlefield of the Mind" by Joyce Meyer, wrapping up with Wilderness Mentality #8. Tatum reflects on the long journey of this book study, emphasizing the importance of critically evaluating the content we consume and always checking its alignment with the Word of God.Tatum shares her candid thoughts on how shame often keeps believers from experiencing the fullness of God's blessings and freedom. Drawing from personal reflections and biblical examples, she takes a deep dive into the emotional and spiritual weight of shame, offering a powerful perspective on how to break free from its grip.Key Topics Discussed:Wilderness Mentality #8: "I don't deserve God's blessings because I am not worthy." Tatum explains how this mentality keeps us from receiving God's promises and reflects on Joshua 5:9 and the rolling away of shame from the people of Israel. The Influence of Shame on Behavior: Learn about how shame manifests in different behaviors—avoidance, people-pleasing, defensiveness, negative self-talk, fear of intimacy, and even addiction—and how these patterns can hinder our spiritual growth.Biblical Stories of Overcoming Shame: Tatum highlights powerful stories of people in the Bible who overcame shame after encountering Jesus:The Samaritan Woman at the Well (John 4)The Woman Caught in Adultery (John 8)Peter's Denial and Restoration (Luke 22, John 21)Mary Magdalene's Transformation (Luke 8)Zacchaeus' Repentance (Luke 19)Freedom Through Jesus: Tatum encourages listeners to reject the lies of the enemy that keep them bound in shame.
