It was another busy news weekend - with the ANC who plan to end load shedding before the end of the year or reduce it to Stage 2. This was revealed at the party's NEC Lekgotla at Esslen Park east of Johannesburg at the weekend. In the same breath, there have been murmurs of Deputy President David Mabuza's imminent resignation to pave the way for Paul Mashatile. And in KZN, former President Jacob Zuma was elected chairperson of SANCO in the province BUT some members of the civic organization say his election is illegitimate. To make sense of all these developments Elvis Presslin spoke to Political Analyst Dr. Levy Ndou
A faction of the South African National Civic Organisation, SANCO is challenging the legitimacy of former President Jacob Zuma's election as its provincial chairperson in KZN. Sizwe Cele who claims to be the legitimate SANCO provincial secretary says the two-day conference in Durban which elected Jacob Zuma was a sham. For more on this, Elvis Presslin spoke to Mr. Cele and Thulani Gamede, SANCO's newly elected Treasurer in KZN
The African National Congress's (ANC's) declining support in Gauteng will become a dominating factor at the party's provincial conference this weekend as it has moved for an earlier than usual start to its congress. The ANC in Gauteng is holding its provincial conference from Thursday to Sunday. ANC provincial deputy chairperson Panyaza Lesufi said the province was not fearful of losing Gauteng, a province it narrowly held onto in 2019. Lesufi said it was not a "weakness" or fear that led the party to dedicate the bulk of its programme to political discussions on the state of the party in the province. He said no political party could guarantee its place in the political arena, and the ANC had to look firmly at its position. "I do not think there is a political party that can affirm that it will win everything and a political party that can affirm that it will not win everything. I think we can. We have the superior ideas, leadership and talent to resolve all problems. We are not starting early because we fear losing. We are affirming who we are," Lesufi said. "We are not scared as the ANC in Gauteng. We had a strategic retreat in the local elections, not a loss. We would be naïve not to accept what the electorate has shown us. That is why we believe that starting the conference early will give us ample time to note the concerns and provide the outcomes. It is not a weakness to start a conference early," he said. The conference will be attended by 1 133 delegates, including provincial executive committee members and the ANC leagues. There are several unresolved disputes, 14 of which had been filed with the national dispute resolution committee. The most significant factor ahead of the conference was the issue of the 19 quarantined votes from the ANC Ekurhuleni region. The votes were set aside at the region's conference last month and constituted votes from five branches. ANC national executive member Jeff Radebe is handling the resolution of the dispute. Lesufi said these branches could not impact the progress of the congress. All Gauteng ANC branches that had qualified and held general branch meetings would be certified to vote at the conference, Lesufi said. In the West Rand region, unresolved disputes saw the region not hold a regional conference after failing to meet the threshold of 70%. Only a few qualifying branches from this region would be allowed to participate. Corruption allegations ahead of conference Gauteng Premier David Makhura is to mull a probe over corruption and vote-buying allegations that dominated factional fights in the lead up to the conference. The SA National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in Gauteng led the charge in accusing Gauteng Health MEC Nomathemba Mokgethi of diverting tenders to assist her contesting for the position of deputy provincial secretary. ANC provincial secretary Jacob Khawe dismissed the claims outrightly, but said he had alerted Makhura. Makhura would consider a probe. "I took that memorandum to the province's premier, and said we have to answer Sanco on these allegations. The matter is with the leader of the government. We would want him to sanction a process that will give confidence to the people of Tembisa in Gauteng as to whether we are running a hospital as a corruption-based front or to heal the ill," Khawe said. Mokgethi had denied the claims, urging Sanco to open a criminal case. The provincial conference was expected to see Lesufi contest the chairperson position against Lebogang Maile, a PEC member and Cogta MEC in Gauteng.

SANCO in the Free State says it has noted with concern the alleged interference by Businessman, Johan Rupert in ANC internal affairs. This comes at the backdrop of leaked audio clips circulating on social media platforms, depicting a chaotic ANC NEC meeting marred by an exchange of insults and swear words. Speculation had been rife throughout the day YESTERDAY as reports indicated that the NEC meeting descended into chaos following a heated discussing over the stepping down of party secretary general, Ace Magashule. Soweto ANC councillor Mpho Sesedinyane believes a proposal for a R150 monthly flat rate for electricity could be a starting point to address the country's non-payment woes. The flat-rate proposal was the brainchild of the South African National Civic Organisation - a non-political organisation which advocates on behalf of communities in engagements with government and other service providers. Soweto owes Eskom almost R20bn - almost half of the total local municipal debt owed to the electricity utility. Eskom has started disconnecting power to thousands of Soweto households as a consequence.

How will you get income once you are in retirement? Do you have a plan? Tune in and find out the best way to accomplish the goal. Special thanks to Sergey (https://incomeclub.co/best-way-to-invest-for-retirement-income/) Sanco for his article related to this episode. When it comes to tapping savings in retirement, many retirees fall into what I call the Income Investing Trap. They tilt their portfolios almost exclusively toward “income” investments—dividend stocks, high-yield bonds, annuities, etc.—figuring this is the best way to assure a safe supply of spending cash throughout retirement. Big mistake. Not only can that approach can leave you with a lopsided portfolio—which is never a good idea—but many investments pitched to retirees as secure sources of income may not be as rock-solid as they seem. For example, investors who bought high-yield and emerging market bond funds in search of higher payouts suffered losses of 3% to 4% between mid-November and mid-December, as falling oil prices and currency jitters disrupted bond markets. A more effective strategy: Invest your nest egg in a broad range of assets that can provide not just current income but capital growth as well. That way, you can then get the retirement spending money you need not just from interest and dividend payments but by periodically selling shares from your stock, bond and mutual fund holdings. You can adopt this more effective, and more balanced, strategy for producing sustainable retirement income by taking these three steps: 1. Start with a reasonable mix of stocks and bonds. Of course, what’s reasonable for many retirees—say, 50% stocks-50% bonds—may be too aggressive or overly conservative for others. So the key is to arrive at a blend of assets that can deliver returns high enough to provide adequate income without subjecting you to losses so large that you’ll spend down your nest egg too quickly. You can get a sense of what mix of stocks and bonds you’ll be comfortable with by filling out the risk tolerance questionnaire in RDR’s Retirement Toolbox. I recommend that you repeat this exercise every couple of years throughout retirement, as many people become less tolerant of risk as they age. 2. Diversify your stock and bond holdings broadly. Many retirees instinctively home in on stocks that pay above-average dividends and bonds that feature outsize yields. The problem with that approach for bonds is that stretching for yield leaves you in lower-quality issues that get hit hardest at the first sign of economic weakness. Focus too heavily on dividend stocks, on the other hand, and you may end up with shares of companies concentrated in just a few industries, leaving you vulnerable if those sectors falter. During the financial crisis, for example, the iShares Select Dividend ETF lost roughly 60% of its value, in part due to its heavy weighting of financial stocks. You’re better off creating a portfolio that mirrors the broad stock and bond markets. The easiest way to do that to invest in a total stock market and a total bond market index fund. That will give you a piece of virtually all publicly traded U.S. stocks and bonds. If you feel you want to tilt your mix a bit toward dividend shares, fine. But don’t let the make-up of your portfolio stray too far from that of the market overall. You can see how your portfolio compares to the overall stock and bond markets by plugging your holdings into Morningstar’s Portfolio Manager tool. 3. Set a sustainable withdrawal rate. The idea here is to set a withdrawal rate that’s high enough to provide an acceptable level of income, but not so high that you’ll burn through your assets early in retirement. There’s lots of debate about what that rate should be. But if you want your money to last 30 or more years, you should probably limit yourself to an initial withdrawal of 3% to 4%, and then adjust that draw annually for inflation. So, for example, if you
