Dan Flores, Satisfi Labs Parable: Think of tourism as a river. If you stop paddling, you might float for a while, but eventually, the current will pull you in directions you don't want to go. Curiosity is your paddle. It keeps you exploring new waters, finding smoother routes, and avoiding obstacles. Without it, you're stuck, moving only where the current takes you. Principle: In leisure and tourism, curiosity and an open mind aren't just beneficial—they're necessary. With the rise of new technology, especially AI, those who stay curious and continuously explore new tools will not only survive but thrive. It's about constantly asking: "Is there a better way to do this?" and never getting too comfortable with "good enough." Transition: That's why now, more than ever, staying open to new ideas is vital. Whether it's AI, customer engagement strategies, or operational efficiency, those who embrace curiosity will be the ones who stay ahead. The biggest challenge holding back many tourism businesses is the belief that they already know what works, and they're hesitant to explore new opportunities—like AI—to improve efficiency and customer experience. Call to Action: So, if you've been feeling stuck in the old ways of doing things and want to see how embracing curiosity can lead to better outcomes, Reach out to Dan! Kicking off a new series on the podcast, we brought in two of our members' CEOs, plus a bonafide industry expert, to discuss some of the key topics to have hit their in-tray this week. Regular host Yanni Andreopoulos was joined by Don White and Nathan Peterson, CEOs of Satisfi Labs and Tagboard, respectively, as well as sports sponsorship and comms guru Andy Sutherden. Andy has counselled major brands such as HSBC, Procter & Gamble and Adidas, led the sponsorship planning and activation for six of the major sponsors at London 2012 (and subsequent Olympics), and today advises companies from startups to FTSE 100s on partnership strategy. First up for dissection was the pros and cons of growing startups hiring talented people out of the big tech companies. We then turned our attention to the idea that many Silicon Valley VC firms are seeking returns so vast that they're overlooking viable investment opportunities in order to discover the next 'super unicorn'. ----more---- In this episode we reference the following article: Napkin Math – Venture Capital Is Ripe for Disruption
“Where can I find bacon on a stick?” From such simple origins, Satisfi Labs built an AI product to answer the questions event-goers really want to know… Here is the first episode in our podcast series hosted by the 2023 Awards Advisory Board. Here, Fmr Groupon Head of Product Kristopher Drey leads the conversation. His guest is Satisfi Labs CEO & Co-Founder Don White. They talk about Satisfi Labs' quest to build a conversational AI tech platform on the theory that it should answer everything. Including where to find bacon on a stick.
Don White is the President & CEO at Satisfi Labs. Coming from an algorithmic training designer background with Bloomberg, Don and his colleagues now use their talents to make information more accessible for places people like to go. Since 2016, Satisfi Labs has been working to optimize digital relationships with guests while maintaining a great guest experience by allowing for personalization, but avoiding the repetitive transfer of information. In this episode, Don talks about the benefits of optimizing labor through AI, the answer engine, and role-based assistants. Optimizing Labor through AI "We look at the roles that people can't potentially fulfill." Some tasks are just impossible to do. Luckily, there's a unique advantage to using artificial intelligence technology to assist staff in completing these intense tasks. By using a system that is designed to learn, an ever-improving system can be implemented to help take on these immense challenges. Not only will this system already provide meaningful results, it will also help improve the performance of employees by assisting them in a way that could never be reached before. By answering simple questions to teach the AI, an AI can create a solution for a question that can be asked in 13 million different, unique ways. This creates a new opportunity in the world of guest service efficiency, allowing for simple questions to be answered in a way that maintains a fantastic guest experience while also enhancing the employee experience. It does this by avoiding the repetitive transfer of common information. The Answer Engine "The guest experience is optimized if they get the information in real time." In a world where information is constantly fed to us, whomever gives us the information we like the quickest wins. It's important to recognize that this day and age requires real-time, quick responses, as the expectation for immediate answers is on the rise. Don and his team have already seen a benefit to the guest experience by using AI within the attractions industry. The guest experience is the most optimized when the guest gets the information accurately, in real time, and always finds it available. By making ‘The Answer Engine' accessible to guests in as many ways possible, whether it be via phone or computer, guests will find it easy to get quick answers to questions while simultaneously leaving the door open for specific personalized experiences where needed. Role-Based Assistants "People like to ask, and just get." AI Assistants can be very valuable, and one of the core ways to utilize them is to have them play a guest-facing role. By implementing these virtual assistants into your operation, not only will it come with real-time, quick information, but it will also be accessible 24/7, something guests would greatly appreciate. Many people find themselves planning a vacation or having a question at an odd time where there may not be an employee to help them in the office. By having these assistants play guest service roles, it can not only provide important and direct information, but it can also keep guests satisfied even outside of office hours. Not only this, but a role-based assistant could assist an employee with a simple task while the employee handles a more complex and unique situation. The Atlanta Hawks' State Farm arena has been ranked as the best NBA Game experience in both 2019 and 2020. With the focus on the game experience in the NBA and heightened consumer expectations, that's no mean feat – especially when, in the first year they won they award, the team wasn't doing well: “When the team's winning, the beer is colder and the hotdogs are warmer.” So for teams, how can you deliver a better experience for the fans across all aspects of their experience – from before the game, at the venue and after the venue. How do you help them get the information that they need to ensure that they have the best experience? How do teams compete against other ways that people can spend their time? In this episode, Yanni spoke to Donny White, CEO at Satisfi Labs and David Garcia, Senior Vice President, Experience & Innovation at Atlanta Hawks. They discussed the approach that led the Hawks to be ranked as the #1 gameday experience in the NBA, what David has been able to bring from his background with Amazon and Disney into the NBA and how the data captured by Satisfi's AI assistant is informing changes to the fan experience at Atlanta's State Farm Arena. Quotes from this episode: David - “When fans rate their experience at a game, it's tied to the amount of information they have before they arrive and the expectations that they come in with. For example, the bag policy doesn't change from one guest to the next. But the guests that knows you can't bring a bag will have a better experience than the guest that didn't know and shows up and has to deal with that.” Donny – “The new fan is a data giver. They'll ask questions, they'll tell their friends, they'll be on social media, they'll communicate - they have an expectation that brands will respond to them.”
We're over a year into the transition from physical to digital tickets in sports entertainment venues – but are contactless tickets here to stay? This week on Salary Capped, host Daniel Litwin brought back a previous guest in Don White, CEO and Co-Founder of Satisfi Labs, to break down a Satisfi Labs study in partnership with the MLB that analyzed over a million questions baseball fans have asked within the league's app.The study found that 53% of fans have never used a digital ticket. White weighed in on what this means for the staying power of digital tickets and the evolution of ticketing as a whole.“About 25% of the questions we handle are about tickets. The evolution of ticketing has been fantastic to see, because these fans or customers are able to take what they purchase and align it with the technology of their mobile device. So, they can get the most out of each and every experience. There was such poor app adoption pre-COVID. Now, the ticket is the major place where the app can add value. On top of that, everything you need to know about the event – what you're trying to do, what you need to accomplish when there – becomes right in the palm of your hand. What's interesting about mobile ticketing is that, even in our customer base, we've helped 125,000 fans that go to baseball games find out how they could use the ticket in their app or how to get it and adopt it more quickly. Now that we've seen the digital contactless environment, you'll see that the venues are just looking to add more value to the ticket experience. Our data shows that this trend is not going away.”
