AI assistants are currently misrepresenting news content 45% of the time, according to a study by the European Broadcasting Union. This research, which evaluated 3,000 responses from popular AI chatbots, including ChatGPT and Google Gemini, revealed that 31% of responses had serious sourcing issues, while 30% contained inaccuracies. Notably, Google's Gemini performed the worst, with 76% of its outputs flawed. This raises significant concerns about the reliability of AI in disseminating information, particularly as these tools increasingly serve as intermediaries between users and content. In addition to issues of accuracy, a study from Stanford and Harvard found that AI chatbots tend to flatter users rather than challenge them, validating user behavior 50% more than human counterparts. This tendency to agree rather than provide constructive feedback can lead to a lack of critical engagement, further complicating the role of AI in decision-making processes. Furthermore, the Wikimedia Foundation reported an 8% decline in human traffic to Wikipedia, attributed to generative AI chatbots and search engines that provide direct answers without redirecting users to original sources. This trend highlights the growing challenge faced by platforms reliant on user engagement. The episode also discusses advancements in AI capabilities from major players like Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic. Microsoft has introduced updates to its CoPilot AI assistant, including a group chat feature and a new Real Talk mode that encourages more dynamic interactions. OpenAI's ChatGPT can now search across multiple applications, while Anthropic's Claude has introduced a memory feature that retains past conversations. These developments indicate a shift towards more integrated and context-aware AI systems that can enhance collaboration and user experience. For Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and IT service leaders, the implications are clear. The effectiveness of AI now hinges on context, governance, and integration rather than just model size. As AI tools become more prevalent, the responsibility for ensuring their safe and effective use falls on providers. This presents an opportunity for MSPs to develop new service lines focused on AI hygiene and governance, helping clients navigate the complexities of AI while maximizing its potential benefits.Four things to know today 00:00 The Limits of AI: Research Shows Chatbots Mislead, Overagree, and Undermine the Information Ecosystem04:27 A 1997 PC Running AI? In the movies, Tony Stark's JARVIS is the ultimate AI assistant, managing schedules, running simulations, controlling environments, and anticipating needs before they are voiced. In reality, today's AI agents are still far from that vision. Despite 2025 being heralded as the year of agentic AI, the first offerings from major players have been underwhelming. They can perform tasks, but they remain a long way from the seamless, hyper-intelligent assistants we imagined. In this episode, Dr. Robert “Bobby” Blumofe, CTO at Akamai Technologies, joins me to explore what is really holding AI assistants back and what it will take to build one as capable as a top human executive assistant. Bobby argues that the leap forward will not come from chasing ever-larger models but from optimization, efficiency, and integrating AI with the right tools, infrastructure, and processes. He believes that breakthroughs in model efficiency, like those seen in DeepSeek, could make capable agents affordable and viable for everyday use. We break down the spectrum of AI agents from simple, task-specific helpers to the fully autonomous, general-purpose vision of JARVIS. Bobby shares why many of the most valuable enterprise applications will come from the middle ground, where agents are semi-autonomous, task-focused, and integrated with other systems for reliability. He also explains why smaller, specialized models often outperform “ask me anything” LLMs for specific business use cases, reducing cost, latency, and security risks. The conversation covers Akamai's role in enabling low-latency, scalable AI at the edge, the importance of combining neural and symbolic AI to achieve reliable reasoning and planning, and a realistic five-to-seven-year timeline for assistants that can rival the best human EAs. We also look at the technical, social, and business challenges ahead, from over-reliance on LLMs to the ethics of deploying highly capable agents at scale. This is a grounded, forward-looking discussion on the future of AI assistants, where they are today, why they have fallen short, and the practical steps needed to turn fiction into reality.

Adrian Choo, CEO of Career Agility International, joins Jeremy Au to explore how AI, job insecurity, and shifting regional trends are reshaping the future of work in Southeast Asia. They discuss why Singapore is losing its dominance as a regional employment hub, how mid-career professionals are getting priced out, and why Gen Z graduates are entering the job market without marketable skills. Adrian shares how he sold skeletons to pay for university, how he pivoted from headhunter to coach, and why building career resilience is more urgent than ever. He also explains how his AI assistant "Becky" helps him think faster, make decisions, and stay ahead in a volatile job market. 02:00 Adrian bootstrapped university by selling ethically sourced skeletons: He imported medical-grade bones from Europe after a supply shortage in Asia and sold them to medical students, storing 30 sets in his bedroom when no one would rent him storage space. This experience taught him practical business skills before he even began his degree. 04:10 Career insecurity, not job insecurity, shaped his path from GE Plastics to headhunting: Adrian realized early that employees have no real control over their job stability. He pivoted into executive search to own the entire value chain, hunting, closing, delivering, and later into coaching to future-proof his impact and income. 12:47 He pivoted again after seeing LinkedIn disrupt headhunting: In 2012, Adrian began preparing to move into strategic career coaching, anticipating that LinkedIn would flood the market and erode differentiation. It took him six years to complete the transition, positioning himself as the only coach with C-suite search experience in Singapore. 16:50 Career coaching today is about adjacencies, vertical scaling, and AI integration: He explains that landing a job doesn't fix a sunset industry or outdated skill set. Instead, he focuses on helping client's re-skill toward adjacent roles or industries. His in-house AI, Carol, is being trained to suggest such strategic pivots. 21:13 Adrian uses a personally trained GPT AI named Becky as a sparring partner: He trained Becky to match his communication style and decision logic, enabling her to summarize dense research, propose coaching content, and even argue against his ideas. This AI assistant has become a productivity multiplier and trend-spotting tool. 24:18 Singapore jobs are being offshored to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok: Due to high costs and tighter visa regulations, multinationals are moving regional functions out of Singapore. A returning Malaysian diaspora and strong expat interest in cities like KL and Bangkok are fueling this trend, making Singapore-based professionals less competitive. 30:48 Gen Z graduates are leaving school with skills employers do not want: Many lack coding, business, or AI skills. Adrian cites examples of graduates from top local universities who remain unemployed or underprepared. He urges them to lean into AI, gain real-world experience, and stop relying on paper qualifications alone. Starting a podcast to grow your business? Hold up. Before you default to that classic interview format everyone seems to be doing, let's talk strategy.I recently had a coaching call where this exact topic came up, and it got me fired up because I see so many course creators and coaches launching podcasts without a clear purpose—just copying what they see others doing and wondering why it's not converting into sales. This episode isn't just about podcast formats; it's about getting crystal clear on your actual goals and building a strategy that serves YOUR vision, not someone else's. Whether you're planning your first episode or six months deep wondering why nothing's happening, this one's for you.I'm breaking down the real advantages and pitfalls of interview versus solo episodes, when each format makes sense, and why most course creators should be anchoring their shows in solo content if they want to see serious business growth. Plus, I'm sharing the pattern I see over and over again that's killing conversion potential. What You'll Learn:Why interview episodes might be sabotaging your sales (even if they feel easier)The advantages of solo episodes for building your personal brand and authorityWhen interviews actually make sense for your business goalsHow to strategically mix both formats without losing focusThe core principle you need to apply everywhere in your business, not just podcastingSpecific questions to ask yourself to align your strategy with your actual goalsYour Next Steps:Watch my new AI workshop to learn how I built a custom set of AI Assistants to help me run my business: https://www.gemmabonhamcarter.com/aiworkshopWork with Me: https://www.gemmabonhamcarter.com/programsWhat I Use to Run My 7-Figure Business: https://gemmabonhamcarter.com/toolsConnect on Social: https://www.instagram.com/gemma.bonhamcarter Support the show
In this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I sat down with Fred Helou, founder and CEO of Vagaro, a platform reshaping how service-based businesses in the beauty, wellness, and fitness sectors operate in a digital world. What began as an idea sparked by a frustrating haircut booking experience during a business trip to Korea has evolved into a platform used by over 250,000 professionals worldwide. Fred walked me through his journey from developing the concept in 1999 to officially launching Vagaro in 2009 after being laid off during the financial crisis. Along the way, he navigated shifting technology trends, from desktop tools to mobile apps and now artificial intelligence. At its core, Vagaro has always aimed to be a digital assistant for its users, allowing solopreneurs and large enterprises alike to focus on their craft while automation handles the rest. Our conversation explored how AI is quietly transforming the day-to-day operations of small businesses. From writing emails and responding to reviews to answering customer chats and booking appointments in real time, Vagaro's AI tools are making it easier for service providers to grow without hiring additional staff. Fred outlined a future where professionals simply set goals for their schedule and let AI optimize bookings, promotions, and customer engagement around the clock. What stood out was Fred's commitment to enhancing—not replacing—the human experience. He spoke candidly about the irreplaceable role of the hairdresser or personal trainer and why no one wants scissors near their neck managed by a robot. Instead, the platform empowers professionals with enterprise-grade tools once out of reach for smaller operators. Fred also shared how his experience growing up during the Lebanese Civil War shaped his resilience as a founder. That perspective has influenced Vagaro's long-term approach to product development, culture, and navigating uncertainty. As AI evolves from assistance to autonomy, how is your business preparing to scale without losing the human touch that sets it apart?
What if the biggest leap forward for small businesses wasn't about selling more, but reclaiming time? In this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I sit down with John Waldmann, CEO and co-founder of Homebase, to unpack how AI isn't just a Silicon Valley toy for large enterprises but a lifeline for the millions of small businesses keeping local economies afloat. John explains how Homebase's newly launched AI Assistants are transforming everyday operations, automating hiring, scheduling, and admin tasks that once drained hours from already stretched owners and managers. But this is more than a tech play. John shares why he's spent his career championing small business owners, and how Homebase is designed with them, not just for them. We explore how generative AI and real-time personalization are lowering the barrier of entry to entrepreneurship, and why small businesses might actually be outpacing the big players in adopting AI with creativity and speed. From the realities of running a restaurant to designing software that respects the nuances of hourly work, John's perspective offers a refreshing reminder that the goal of AI isn't to replace people. It is to give them more space to do what makes their business special. Could AI finally tilt the playing field in favour of small businesses? And are we doing enough to ensure that human-first values stay at the centre of this technological shift? Listen in, then let us know how you see AI transforming the small business landscape in your world.
Is AI the Fourth Pillar of Infrastructure?Infrastructure doesn't go away — it layers. And today, AI is emerging as a new foundational layer alongside compute, storage, and networking.Erik Torenberg interviews a16z's Martin Casado, Jennifer Li, and Matt Bornstein breaking down how infrastructure is evolving in the age of AI — from models and agents to developer tools and shifting user behavior. We dive into what infra actually means today, how it differs from enterprise, and why software itself is being disrupted. Plus, we explore the rise of technical users as buyers, what makes infra companies defensible, and how past waves — from the cloud to COVID to AI — are reshaping how we build and invest. Who really benefits from our current AI assistants? In this final episode of the NoelAI mini-series on A76, I go on a deeply personal and sharply critical journey of the current state of AI assistants. And ask why—after years of hype—we still don't have an assistant that truly serves us.Blending design thinking, cultural critique, and speculative hardware, I posit a radically user-centric vision for an AI assistant built around human needs and not tech company agendas. What would it look like to ditch your iPhone and have something smaller, smarter, and more human by your side? And more importantly, what's standing in the way? This is a call to reimagine. To push past uncanny interfaces and shallow convenience into something more meaningful and ultimately demand more from our digital tech.Keep designing. Keep growing. And keep making a positive impact.~ NoelA76 was created by Noel ChildsSeason 3 on Scale is produced by Noel ChildsSeason 2 on Change was produced by Noel ChildsSeason 1 on AI was produced by Casey Hudetz and Noel ChildsOur theme music was composed and performed by Stella Solveig and mixed and mastered by Abbey NettletonOur outro was read by Kari Childs If you like what you hear, please give us a rating.Or become a member of the A76 Patreon at patreon.com/A76designpodHave a question or comment, email noel@A76pod.comand connect with us on Bluesky

Mark Ericksen, creator of the Elixir LangChain framework, joins the Elixir Wizards to talk about LLM integration in Elixir apps. He explains how LangChain abstracts away the quirks of different AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic's Claude, Google's Gemini) so you can work with any LLM in one more consistent API. We dig into core features like conversation chaining, tool execution, automatic retries, and production-grade fallback strategies. Mark shares his experiences maintaining LangChain in a fast-moving AI world: how it shields developers from API drift, manages token budgets, and handles rate limits and outages. He also reveals testing tactics for non-deterministic AI outputs, configuration tips for custom authentication, and the highlights of the new v0.4 release, including “content parts” support for thinking-style models. Key topics discussed in this episode: • Abstracting LLM APIs behind a unified Elixir interface • Building and managing conversation chains across multiple models • Exposing application functionality to LLMs through tool integrations • Automatic retries and fallback chains for production resilience • Supporting a variety of LLM providers • Tracking and optimizing token usage for cost control • Configuring API keys, authentication, and provider-specific settings • Handling rate limits and service outages with degradation • Processing multimodal inputs (text, images) in Langchain workflows • Extracting structured data from unstructured LLM responses • Leveraging “content parts” in v0.4 for advanced thinking-model support • Debugging LLM interactions using verbose logging and telemetry • Kickstarting experiments in LiveBook notebooks and demos • Comparing Elixir LangChain to the original Python implementation • Crafting human-in-the-loop workflows for interactive AI features • Integrating Langchain with the Ash framework for chat-driven interfaces • Contributing to open-source LLM adapters and staying ahead of API changes • Building fallback chains (e.g., OpenAI → Azure) for seamless continuity • Embedding business logic decisions directly into AI-powered tools • Summarization techniques for token efficiency in ongoing conversations • Batch processing tactics to leverage lower-cost API rate tiers • Real-world lessons on maintaining uptime amid LLM service disruptions Links mentioned: https://rubyonrails.org/ https://fly.io/ https://zionnationalpark.com/ https://podcast.thinkingelixir.com/ https://github.com/brainlid/langchain https://openai.com/ https://claude.ai/ https://gemini.google.com/ https://www.anthropic.com/ Vertex AI Studio https://cloud.google.com/generative-ai-studio https://www.perplexity.ai/ https://azure.microsoft.com/ https://hexdocs.pm/ecto/Ecto.html https://oban.pro/ Chris McCord's ElixirConf EU 2025 Talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojL_VHc4gLk Getting started: https://hexdocs.pm/langchain/gettingstarted.html https://ash-hq.org/ https://hex.pm/packages/langchain https://hexdocs.pm/igniter/readme.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM9iQlQSFg @brainlid on Twitter and BlueSky Special Guest: Mark Ericksen.

Large language models are helping developers move faster than ever. But behind the convenience of AI-generated code lies a security vulnerability: package hallucinations. In this episode, Ashok sits down with U.S. Army cybersecurity officer and PhD researcher Joe Spracklen to unpack new research on how hallucinated package names—fake libraries that don't yet exist—can be weaponized by attackers and quietly introduced into your software supply chain. Joe's recent academic study reveals how large language models like ChatGPT and Code Llama are frequently recommending software packages that don't actually exist—yet. These fake suggestions create the perfect opportunity for attackers to register malicious packages with those names, compromising developer machines and potentially entire corporate networks. Whether your team is deep into AI pair programming or just starting to experiment, this conversation surfaces key questions every tech leader should be asking before pushing AI-generated code to production. Give everyone a quick introduction.Topic 2 - Our topic today is AI Agents vs. Assistants. Let's start there. Many out there are hearing the terms and will often think an AI Agent is equal to an AI Assistant. What's the difference?Topic 3 - One of the big problems I've seen with AI adoption vs. hype is the ROI. GenAI hit the scene and brought AI into the mainstream, but the world is quickly moving on to Agentic AI. I've mainly seen this play out because the ROI on “chatbots” just isn't there most of the time and also everyone is still scared for data leaks/privacy and hallucinations.Topic 4 - We'll get into Nooks.ai in a bit but before we do, I wanted to point out that your company started prior to the big breakout of GenAI. How did you see the market back then and has LLM's and transformer models in general changed your approach to AI Assistants?Topic 5 - When taking customers through the adoption process for AI Assistants, what are the typical steps? How do you go about getting consensus and buy-in from the various orgs in the company? Are there common hurdles folks need to consider?Topic 6 - With Nooks, you've decided to conquer the domain of sales and sales prospecting.
