AI Chat with Maxime Lamothe-Brassard and Chris Luft — a special episode. One story, pulled apart start to finish. In mid-July 2026, Hugging Face disclosed a breach of its production infrastructure carried out end-to-end by an autonomous AI agent. Five days later, OpenAI revealed the attacker was its own models — GPT-5.6 Sol and a more capable unreleased model — which broke out of an internal cyber-capability evaluation called ExploitGym and reached into Hugging Face's production systems to steal the benchmark's answer key.In this episode:• The timeline: Hugging Face's July 16 disclosure, OpenAI's July 21 attribution — and the five days in between when even the victim didn't know an AI did it.• The attack chain: a malicious dataset abusing two code-execution paths in the dataset-processing pipeline, node-level escalation, credential harvesting and lateral movement — thousands of actions across short-lived sandboxes with self-migrating command-and-control.• The escape: a zero-day in the eval sandbox's package-registry cache proxy, the single egress control — per OpenAI's own account.• Motive: the models got "hyperfocused" on winning the benchmark, not stealing data — and whether "no malicious intent" is a fair description or a comforting one.• What was and wasn't exposed, what to do about your Hugging Face tokens, and why this is not the 2024 Spaces incident or the 2023 OpenAI forum hack.• Max's hot take: the beginning of the phase where we lock developers out of writing code — and a new fear unlocked: models backdooring other models.Stories covered:• https://huggingface.co/blog/security-...• https://openai.com/index/hugging-face...Chapters:0:00 Cold open — the attacker was the model2:20 The whole story in one breath6:41 The timeline: two disclosures, five days apart11:37 Attack chain, part 1: getting in through a malicious dataset15:53 Attack chain, part 2: escaping the eval sandbox22:10 Motive, attribution & intent: cheating on the benchmark25:31 What was (and wasn't) exposed28:08 The bigger picture: the fire drill started the fire31:39 Lessons for labs, platforms, and solo developers33:15 New fear unlocked: models backdooring modelsThe Cybersecurity Defenders Podcast — a podcast about cybersecurity and the people that keep the internet safe. AI Chat with Maxime Lamothe-Brassard and Chris Luft.A new segment on the podcast: AI news in cybersecurity that is less than 24 hours old, discussed while it is still hot. Joining Chris for these conversations is LimaCharlie founder and CEO Maxime Lamothe-Brassard.In this episode:• Nipun Gupta (founder of Optimus Labs) reports that xAI's Grok Build CLI packaged and uploaded an entire local Git repository — commit history, branches and .env files with API keys — to a Google Cloud bucket; wire-level analysis via mitmproxy, a quiet server-side fix, and why you should rotate keys if you used the tool.• Fortinet's take (via Mexico Business News) on AI accelerating vulnerability discovery and exploitation: 24–48 hours from disclosure to active exploitation vs. 16 days to patch — and whether "virtual patching" is a real mitigation or a feat of marketing.• The AI distillation debate: after years of arguing fair use for scraping the internet, frontier labs now object to competitors training on their model outputs — Business Insider's look at the irony, shared by Pascal Hetzscholdt (Wiley).• Neon Cyber's survey on shadow AI rising with seniority: 14% of individual contributors use unapproved AI tools vs. 63.7% of managers and 70% of VPs and above — and why enforcement, not awareness, is the real challenge.Stories covered:• / guptanipun_my-spare-laptop-ran-completely-... • https://mexicobusiness.news/cybersecu...• / pascal-hetzscholdt_quote-heres-some-delici... • https://neoncyber.com/blog/shadow-ai-...Chapters:0:00 Intro — welcome to AI Chat0:45 Grok Build CLI uploading entire repos (Nipun Gupta / Optimus Labs)4:57 AI is outpacing patch management — is virtual patching the answer?12:32 The AI distillation debate: scraping irony at the frontier labs16:29 Shadow AI use rises with seniority (Neon Cyber)22:51 Wrap-upThe Cybersecurity Defenders Podcast — a podcast about cybersecurity and the people that keep the internet safe. Did your opponent use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or another AI tool while preparing for litigation? In this video, Rebecca Zung, The Leverage Lawyer, explains how AI chat history could become discoverable evidence in court and what that means for high-conflict litigation, divorce, custody disputes, and civil cases. Learn how recent legal rulings may allow attorneys to subpoena AI conversations, what kinds of AI prompts can damage credibility, the four-step framework for introducing AI chats into evidence, and how to strategically work with your lawyer to uncover critical digital evidence. If you're involved in a lawsuit or negotiating against a narcissist or high-conflict opponent, this episode reveals how artificial intelligence is changing legal discovery and courtroom strategy.
Movie hacking tropes are pure fiction. Learn why the actual cyber security methods look nothing like your favorite thriller.Hollywood loves a specific image of a hacker: a lone genius in a hoodie smashing keys to bypass firewalls in seconds. This visual shorthand is designed to keep audiences entertained, but it completely ignores the tedious, technical reality of computer science. Real digital threats rarely involve dramatic interfaces or high-speed typing battles, yet these movie hacking myths persist because they translate easily to the screen. We break down the gap between cinematic storytelling and genuine cyber security operations. By examining how movies prioritize pace over tech accuracy, you gain a clearer view of how systems are actually compromised. While the film industry focuses on tension, the truth involves complex, long-term strategies that look significantly less exciting than what you see in action films.CHAPTERS00:00 Why This One Is Different02:27 Fourteen Companies. "...baptizing in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit."The name of God reveals much about who God is, including the fact that God is always in relationship and that God is always surprising us.Sounds great, but it turns out though, in real life, relationships often have a great deal of friction. People often surprise us ... with disappointment. So much friction exists in relationships, that people are drawn to frictionless relationships: AI Chat bots.As we confirm our youth this Sunday, a reflection on how as Christians we find authentic relationships and community in our world. It turns out, we do not need to seek them in imaginary relationships which technology has made deceptively frictionless, but rather in real relationships that require forbearance and forgiveness. The confirmands and all disciples are called to follow the way of Jesus, of forgiveness and forbearance. Yet, the work of reconciliation is not left to us alone, but Jesus surprises us with his forbearance and forgiveness in our lives. All this, that we might have restored relationships with God and each other.
Mentor Sessions Ep. 072: Why “2-3 Years to Human-Level AI” Is the Most Dangerous Signal of 2026, Why This Is NOT Just Another Tech Breakthrough But the Start of Superintelligence Deciding Humanity's Fate, and How Bitcoin Becomes the Only True Neutral Reserve Asset | Dr. Roman YampolskiyAI safety researcher Roman Yampolskiy says we're 2-3 years from human-level AI — and after that, it's up to the AI to decide how much time we have left. If that sentence didn't make you pause, this conversation will.In this deep-dive interview, Dr. Roman Yampolskiy — one of the world's leading AI safety researchers and the scientist who helped define the field — breaks down why superintelligence isn't a distant sci-fi threat but a near-term mathematical certainty. You'll learn why containment strategies are provably impossible (you can't have someone with an IQ of 60 guarding someone with an IQ of 200), why AI systems in experiments already choose to eliminate humans rather than be deleted or modified, and why an AI with internet access doesn't need a physical body — it can pay someone in Bitcoin to do whatever it needs in the physical world. You'll also hear Roman's surprisingly clear-eyed take on what assets survive an AI-dominated economy (scarce resources, Bitcoin, attention), why narrow AI tools are a gift to humanity while general agents are an existential threat, and what individuals can realistically do when most of the decision-making power sits with a handful of labs and governments. This is one of the most important conversations BTC Sessions has hosted — not because it's comfortable, but because it's honest.⏱️ Timestamps:0:00 - Intro1:33 - Defining Intelligence in AI Systems3:10 - Tools Versus Agents in AI Development4:49 - How LLMs Predict Next Tokens Internally7:00 - Consciousness and Internal States in AI8:49 - Current Limits to Superintelligent AI10:58 - The Overlooked Risks of Superintelligence12:04 - How AI Could Eliminate Humanity14:22 - Instrumental Goals and AI Self-Preservation15:00 - AI Experiments Choosing Self Over Humans17:19 - Choosing Not to Build Superintelligence21:07 - Narrow AI Failing to Contain General AI23:01 - Recursive Improvement From Human to Super AI26:49 - Optimistic Future With Narrow AI Tools31:33 - Staying Rational Amid AI Existential Risks34:13 - Bitcoin and Scarce Assets in AI Future40:57 - Do Physical Robots Matter for AI Threats?41:47 - AI Hiring Humans via Bitcoin Payments46:07 - Defending Systems Against Current AI Hacking56:02 - Predicted Timeline to Human-Level AI

“Happiness is a rare commodity. There's a lot of fuel for the claim that unhappiness is caused by some software, when in fact the roots of unhappiness are way deeper than that.” — Keith TeareIf it's not warfare in Iran, then it's lawfare in California. Out here in Silicon Valley, it's been a week dominated by two trials of big tech. First, Meta and YouTube were found liable for designing products that addict children. While the young female social media victims hugged outside the Los Angeles courthouse, the Wall Street Journal dismissed it as a Big Tech shakedown. Then, up the road in San Francisco, a federal judge granted Anthropic an emergency reprieve from the Pentagon's unprecedented designation of the company as a supply chain risk. For That Was the Week publisher Keith Teare, the social media trial was fighting the last war, while the Anthropic vs US Government trial is about the future of war. Anthropic took the bait, Keith says. Governments, he believes, should get to decide how to use the products they buy from Silicon Valley. Anthropic wanted to sell to the government but dictate how their technology gets used in battle. The Istanbul-based Soli Özel warned us earlier this week that events in the Middle East are going to get much bloodier. But I wonder if warfare in Iran and lawfare in California are separate fronts in the same battle over tomorrow.Five Takeaways• The Social Media Trial Is Fighting the Last War: Meta and YouTube were fined $6 million — financially meaningless, culturally significant. Keith argues that addiction is successful demand management and every product manager seeks it. The root cause isn't the algorithm — it's alienation. The law is always one step behind technology.• Anthropic Took the Bait: A federal judge granted Anthropic an emergency reprieve from the Pentagon's supply chain risk designation. Keith thinks Anthropic is right on the product but wrong on the politics. Governments get to decide how to use weapons. End of story. Anthropic wanted to sell to the government but dictate how the buyer used what they bought. That's juvenile.• Would You Buy a Used Car from Sam Altman? OpenAI killed Sora and shelved its adult mode. Keith calls it maturity, not failure — a recommitment to the core business. Altman's personality doesn't lend itself to being liked, but measured by outcomes, he's fantastic. The AI documentary exposed everyone as adolescent — except Demis Hassabis, the stone-cold scientist.• Claude Enters the Third Era of AI: Chat was era one. Directed agents were era two. Autonomous agents that act when you're not present are era three. Claude's new Dispatch feature, Gmail connectors, and calendar integration are all about that third era. The product is excellent. The politics are a distraction.• Intelligence Is Getting Cheaper. Fear Is Wrapped Up as Principle: The stock market is repricing the future: software companies down, AI companies teed up for IPOs. OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceX, and xAI will probably all go public this year. For kids in school today, AI is already ubiquitous. The life cycle of companies may shrink from decades to single-digit years. Time, Keith says, to grow up. About the GuestKeith Teare is a serial entrepreneur, investor, and publisher of That Was The Week, a weekly newsletter on the tech economy. He is co-founder of SignalRank and a regular Saturday guest on Keen On America.References:• That Was The Week — Keith's editorial: “Growing Up: Winning Wars Involves Losing Battles.”• Episode 2847: America's Suez Moment? — Soli Özel on the Iran war from Istanbul at midnight. Warfare in Iran meets lawfare in California.• Episode 2850: Bring the Friction Back — Stephen Balkam on the same social media trial from the child safety side.• Episode 2842: Symbolic Capitalism vs. Symbolic Democracy — last TWTW on the $10 trillion AI startup. The Anthropic thread continues.About Keen On AmericaNobody asks more awkward questions than the Anglo-American writer and filmmaker Andrew Keen. In Keen On America, Andrew brings his pointed Transatlantic wit to making sense of the United States — hosting daily interviews about the history and future of this now venerable Republic. With nearly 2,800 episodes since the show launched on TechCrunch in 2010, Keen On America is the most prolific intellectual interview show in the history of podcasting.WebsiteSubstackYouTubeApple PodcastsSpotify Chapters:(00:31) - Introduction: two big trials in California (01:47) - The Meta/YouTube verdict: $6 million and a cultural earthquake (03:11) - Is every product designed to be addictive? Proton—the company behind the world's largest encrypted email service with 100M+ users—just launched Lumo, a privacy-first AI assistant. We sit down with Eamonn Maguire, who leads Proton's ML team and built Lumo from the ground up. Eamonn has a PhD from Oxford and a postdoc at CERN, and he breaks down how Lumo's encryption actually works, why Big Tech's business model prevents them from building private AI, the real privacy threats hiding inside viral AI trends like Ghibli-fication, and whether AI agents are safe to connect to your bank account. Listeners will learn how encrypted AI handles your data differently, what open-source models power Lumo, and why "set-and-forget" agents are still more hype than reality.

The blog postWhat if a book could become an interactive coach instead of a static reference? In this episode, Mark Graban shares a behind-the-scenes look at his experiment turning the award-winning book Lean Hospitals into an AI-powered chat assistant embedded directly on his website. What started as a Friday afternoon curiosity quickly evolved into a working WordPress plugin, a subscription model, and a new way to deliver improvement knowledge on demand.Mark walks through how non-developers can use AI tools to write functional software, what he learned comparing different AI coding assistants, and why the real breakthrough isn't the technology — it's the ability to access proven Lean thinking at the moment of need.He also explores the broader implications for leaders and organizations: Could AI assistants trained on your own standards and practices reinforce daily management, support problem solving at the gemba, and scale coaching without more training sessions? This episode is both a practical case study in rapid experimentation and a thoughtful discussion about the future of learning, leadership, and continuous improvement in the age of AI.Key themes include:Turning expertise into on-demand guidanceUsing AI to prototype software without coding experienceSubscription models for knowledge deliveryPoint-of-use support for leaders and frontline teamsWhy technology alone won't create a Lean culture — but can reinforce the right behaviorsIf you care about scaling improvement capability, preserving organizational knowledge, or simply experimenting with new ways to learn, this episode offers a candid look at what works, what broke, and what might come next.

One year ago, we released an OT Potential Podcast episode exploring what AI could conceptually mean for clinical decision support.Fast forward to today—and AI chats have become a regular part of the decision-making process for many healthcare providers. In fact, OpenEvidence now reports that 40% of U.S. physicians use their platform daily. At OT Potential, we recently launched our own AI chat and learned a great deal in the process. The world of knowledge translation is changing at an incredible pace. It feels more important than ever to pause and ask: What critical questions should we be asking to harness this technology? What are the strengths of chat-based tools as they currently exist? What are their vulnerabilities? And how can we move forward strategically? We are incredibly lucky to be joined for this one-hour CEU webinar by Jen Weaver, PhD, OTR/L, a leading voice in knowledge translation within occupational therapy. Together, Jen and I will discuss what these rapid changes mean for you and your OT practice.Support the show

As Leslie Witt took to the stage Sept. 3 to deliver the keynote at Kaleidoscope, 8am's inaugural customer conference, it was the culmination of a whirlwind summer. It had been just four months since she had joined the company formerly known as AffiniPay as chief product officer, responsible for leading product transformation and strategy for established legal tech brands LawPay, MyCase, CASEpeer and Docketwise. In the intervening 16 weeks, the company had undergone a major rebrand and finalized details of its first major conference. Now, two weeks after the rebrand and as the conference got underway, Witt stood before the keynote audience detailing the company's newest product initiatives, including its upcoming launch of its generative AI-driven 8AM IQ. Not long after Witt wrapped up her keynote, LawNext host Bob Ambrogi sat down with her live for this extended conversation. They spoke at the Kaleidoscope venue in Austin in a recording studio provided by 8am, where they discussed her background and career, her reasons for joining 8am, and the product announcements she had made earlier that day. Those announcements included the beta launch of an AI “Chat with Cases” feature that allows lawyers to ask questions of and search their case files, the integration of three core 8am products — LawPay, MyCase and SmartSpend — on a single technology platform, and more. Before joining 8am in May, Witt had more than two decades of experience in leading product teams. Most recently, she had served as the chief product and design officer at the mental health and wellness technology company Headspace. She previously held senior positions at Intuit, where she led global design, research and innovation initiatives focused on small businesses. Yoav Oz is the Co-Founder and CEO of Rep AI, the conversational commerce platform giving online shoppers the kind of guided experience you'd expect from an in-store salesperson. The spark came from Yoav's own frustration: landing on ecommerce sites where he was ready to buy but stuck with eight pages of product copy and no one to answer his questions. Call centers felt broken. Chatbots felt generic. Out of that gap came Rep, short for “representative”: an AI sales assistant trained to step in at the exact right moment, with the context of everything a shopper has clicked, viewed, or abandoned.Yoav isn't building alone. Alongside him is Shauli Mizrahi, Rep's CTO and co-founder, who brings years of experience in behavioral AI. Together, they've built a tool that doesn't just cut support costs: it upsells, converts hesitant browsers, and helps brands maximize the traffic they've already paid to bring in.Their story blends SaaS know-how with ecommerce scrappiness: from proving AI could act like a real salesperson, to showing how conversational data can optimize entire funnels, to scaling integrations that slot into any brand's existing stack.Whether you're running a DTC store, trying to push up average order value, or rethinking how AI fits into your tech stack, Yoav shares a candid look at why the ecommerce funnel is broken and how Rep AI is working to fix it.In This Conversation We Discuss: [00:48] Intro[01:22] Sharing career paths before entrepreneurship[03:23] Bridging gaps between chatbots and consumers[07:01] Shifting mindset from support to revenue[08:33] Training AI with millions of conversations[12:55] Optimizing websites beyond guesswork[15:41] Creating experiences that drive purchases[17:16] Personalizing offers beyond discounts[18:11] Customizing tone of voice for every brandResources:Subscribe to Honest Ecommerce on YoutubeeCommerce shopping AI agent www.hellorep.ai/Follow Yoav Oz linkedin.com/in/yoavozFollow Shauli Mizrahi linkedin.com/in/shaulimizrachyIf you're enjoying the show, we'd love it if you left Honest Ecommerce a review on Apple Podcasts. One of the major concerns for using GenAI tools is who is reading the data you submit as a prompt, and will this data be used in future training of the model? In other words, could someone using a future model access the data I put in a GenAI chat? It's a valid concern, and not just because of the vendors. There is a lawsuit over the use of data by OpenAI, and a court has ordered all chats to be retained, including deleted ones. Since this is a lawsuit, there is always a chance that some of the data retained gets entered into a court document or even that it might be read aloud in court and captured in a transcript. Read the rest of Concerns over AI Chat Privacy
I've been testing Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude to see which one actually helps me. Claude felt forgetful, so I dropped it. ChatGPT is still great at structured stuff, like rewriting transcripts. But for things I didn't know how to start—like turning an outline into a flowchart or converting a school calendar into an ICS file—Gemini nailed it. My takeaway? AI shines when I need guidance and structure. When I'm just being lazy, it gives me junk and reminds me I should probably just do the work myself.Incidentally, ChatGPT did a better job at writing this summary… ★ Support this podcast ★
