Send us a textIn this episode of Embedded Insiders, Scott Bibaud, President and CEO of Atomera, explores the rising costs of semiconductor manufacturing and the challenges of scaling to advanced nodes like 3nm and 2nm. He breaks down the diminishing performance gains and the complexity of high-volume semiconductor architectures.Next, Rich and Scot Morrison, Vice President of Shift Left Software Product Management at Siemens EDA, discuss the growing specialization of chip design—and why development tools must evolve to keep up.But first, Rich and I examine Moore's Law and whether the push for ever-smaller chips is truly the best path forward. For more information, visit embeddedcomputing.com
Chip design has always been a complex process, and there is no end in sight. What has improved are the tools available to an IC designer. The chips are getting more specialized; hence, the tools must drill down further into the process than ever before. This sounds like a lot of black magic, but it becomes less cloudy when someone who understands the process walks you through it. To get more clarity for myself, I invited Scot Morrison, the Vice President of Shift Left Software Product Management at Siemens EDA, to be my guest on this week's Embedded Executives podcast. Scot first lays out the problems, then walks through some of the various solutions.

One area of physical therapy that I think we can easily improve is our ability to measure and monitor strength as a person progresses. Most people we work with have a strength deficit as one of the primary issues we are working on improving. So why not measure?Manual muscle testing has limitations, and is really just a gross screen. I think we can do better quantifying force. In this episode I talk to Scot Morrison about how clinicians can get started with measuring strength, what that really means in regard to force and torque, and some advanced concepts for those with some experience.Full show notes: https://mikereinold.com/measuring-strength-with-scot-morrison Click Here to View My Online Courses Want to learn more from me? In this episode I am joined by Scot Morrison to discuss the envelope of function model, as proposed by Scott Dye in the 1990s. The envelope of function has gained increasing acceptance over the past decade and I thought a deep dive into this concept was needed to highlight the potential pro's and con's of implementing this into clinical practice. Today, we have on Scot Morrison of Physio Praxis. Scot is one of the people I look up to the most in clinical practice. Why, you ask? Well, for starters, his critical thinking and clinical decision making skills are top notch. But what probably stands out to me the most, is Scot's determination to continuing growing, and his continually shedding of his own certainty based on the best available information. Scot's intellectual humility is role model worthy and is something I respect so much. As I continue my journey as a clinician, Scot has been someone who helps to hold the mirror up to myself, helping me to ask myself the hard questions, but ultimately the ones that make me GROW! I really think you all will enjoy this episode so much, it will definitely make you ask yourself some hard questions. AND THATS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT!!!! Make sure you listen, share, and spread the love for this one!!! (And please give us a rating on iTunes!!!) PS - his course “Sloptimal Loading” is easily in my top 3 musts for new grads (really any clinicians) in the outpatient world. SLOPTIMAL INFO Scot's Instagram Ok - enough gassing him up - let's get into the conversation. Enjoy!!!
Shout out to Scot Morrison for this topic. Since normal life and recovery has ups/downs, we have to adjust what we do to match that. Instead of worrying about things being perfect, we sometimes need just enough, i.e. sloptimal. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thenickmarkishow/message

At the Voice of the Patient, we are dedicated to enhancing our ability as health care providers to truly listen to others and to establish a therapeutic alliance. In some cases, we can benefit from listening to the experience and mindset of other providers, such as Dr. Mark Bishop, PT, PhD. Dr. Bishop is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy. Dr. Bishop received his entry-level training in Australia and has extensive experience working as a physical therapist. His research interests are in the management of musculoskeletal conditions, particularly pain, by orthopedic physical therapy. He also researches nonspecific effects in physical therapy, including the role of the expectations of providers and patients in therapeutic outcomes. We discuss many aspects of the therapeutic alliance, including therapist expectations, patient expectations, and placebo. We talk about research from Dr. Bishop and other scientists that have tested the role of expectancy in treatment, and Dr. Bishop shares advice for providers to maximize outcomes in an evidence-based manner. I believe that a system based on sound principles will trump a collection of methods. I am not quite sure that all we can change matters or that what matters can always be changed. I think perturbing the system, as long as adaptation is positive, is a good thing.
