I can own my response Proverbs 29:22 An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered person commits many sins (NIV) Proverbs 15:18 A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel (NIV) Proverbs 14:29 Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly (NIV) Proverbs 29:11 Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end (NIV) 2. What about in marriage? A. God does not like divorce B. God’s Word makes provision for divorce when it’s needed C. God can do miracles Matthew 19:3-9 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?” 4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” 7 “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?” 8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.” (NIV) 1 Corinthians 7:10-16 To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11 But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife. 12 To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. 13 And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. 15 But if the unbeliever leaves, let it be so. The brother or the sister is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace. 16 How do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or, how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife? (NIV)

That is how we know we are living in him. 6 Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. (NLT)

Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed and for lying in sackcloth and ashes? Is that what you call a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord? (NIV) 4. What should you expect when you fast?
One of the beautiful truths of Scripture is that God designed us to live in community. Through Christ, we are not only reconciled to God but also united as one body, each part playing a vital role. Healthy relationships are foundational to living out the gospel, marked by love, encouragement, and forgiveness.“For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.” (1 Corinthians 12:13 NIV)In today's message, we explore how the Bible calls us to love, encourage, and forgive one another. Just as the early church grew stronger through these principles, we are invited to do the same, building a culture of unity and grace within the body of Christ. How are your relationships reflecting the love of Christ?

Couldn’t I wash in them and be cleansed?” So he turned and went off in a rage. (NIV) 2 Kings 5:13-14 - Naaman’s servants went to him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? Then he went away. 16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money. 19 Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.[e] You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 22 And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 24 He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, 25 So I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’ 26 But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? 27 Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ (ESV) God is looking for servants who are: 1. Kingdom-minded not self-centered Matthew 25:16-18 - He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money. (ESV) Matthew 20:26-28 - Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” (NIV) 2. Faithful not fickle Matthew 25:21 - His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. (ESV) Colossians 3:23 – Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men. (ESV) 3. Fruitful not fruitless Matthew 25:21 - His master said to him, ‘Well DONE, good and faithful servant.” (ESV) John 15:8 - This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (NIV) Ephesians 2:10 – For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (NIV) 1 Peter 4:10 - Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. (NIV) Romans 12:3-11 - Because of the privilege and authority[c] God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.[d] 4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. 6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. 9 Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. 10 Love each other with genuine affection,[e] and take delight in honoring each other. 11 Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. (NLT) 4. He can reward not rebuke 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 - Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. 14 If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. 15 But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames. (NLT) Colossians 3:23-24 - Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 Knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. (ESV) Matthew 16:26-27 - What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done. (NIV) Revelation 22:12 - “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. (NLT)
Own Your Opportunity Open the Door Acts 12:5-18 (NIV) 5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. 6 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance.7 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists. 8 Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.” And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,” the angel told him. 9 Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision. 10 They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him. 11 Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were hoping would happen.” 12 When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying. 13 Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant named Rhoda came to answer the door. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!” 15 “You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.” 16 But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. 17 Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought him out of prison. “Tell James and the other brothers and sisters about this,” he said, and then he left for another place. 18 In the morning, there was no small commotion among the soldiers as to what had become of Peter. 1. You open a door when you pray it open. 2. You open a door when you take your next step. 3. You open a door when you invest and invite.

Mark 9:28-29 - 28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” 29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.” NIV Top 10 Reasons to make prayer a priority in 2024 1. It’s the basis of our relationship with God. Romans 10:9-10, 13 - 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved…13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” NIV 2. It brings forgiveness of sin. 1 John 1:9 - 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. NLT 3. It helps you discern God’s will. Acts 13:2 - While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." NIV 4. It strengthens you. Psalm 105:4 - Look to the Lord and His strength, seek His face always. NIV 5. It gives you peace. Psalm 34:4-5 - I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; NLT Philippians 4:6-7 - 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. NIV 6. It gives you victory over temptation. Matthew 26:41 - Jesus told his disciples, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” NIV 7. Makes you wiser. James 1:5 - 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. NIV 8. Brings God’s healing. James 5:13-15 - 13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. NIV 9. It brings spiritual Intervention Daniel 9:23 - 23 As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you NIV 10. God rewards those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 - 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. NIV Why don’t we prioritize prayer? 1. We don’t know what to say. 2. We don’t think God will answer. 3. We get busy. 1 Thess. 5:17 - Pray continually.
Guest speaker and one of Northplace's teaching pastors, Scotty Gibbons, joins us this week with a powerful message about how to respond when life has not panned out the way we thought it would.
2 Corinthians 12:8 - 8 Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. (NLT) 2 Corinthians 12:9 - 9 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” (NLT) 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 - So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. 10 That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (NLT) 1. Trust Him Prov. 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (NIV) 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 - 6 So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. (ESV) Romans 10:17 - Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. (NIV) 2. Don’t miss all of the little miracles while waiting on your big one. 3. Keep praying and praising while He’s working. Romans 8:28 - 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[i] have been called according to his purpose. (NIV)
How to Recognize God’s Voice Galatians 5:16-17 (NLT) 16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. 3 Dangerous Voices: 1. Voice of the flesh Galatians 5:17 – The sinful nature wants to do evil. – NLT Proverbs 14:12 - You may think you are on the right road and still end up dead. CEV 2. Voice of the world 1 John 2:16 - For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. NIV 3. Voice of the devil John 8:44 - He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. NLT Romans 8:14 - For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. NLT Luke 4:1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, NIV John 16:13 - 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. ESV 2 Ways the Holy Spirit speaks: 1. He speaks through God’s Word. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. NIV Psalm 119:105 - Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. NIV 2. He speaks directly to your heart. a. Whisper b. Peace c. Check in your spirit d. Prophetically
Baptized and Blessed Matthew 3:13-17 - 13 Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?” 15 But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.[a]” So John agreed to baptize him. 16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened[b] and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” NLT Reasons people don’t get baptized: 1. They don’t see the importance of it. 2. They allow pride to keep them from being baptized. 3. They aren’t followers of Jesus. Reasons you should be baptized: 1. Make a statement to yourself. 2. Make a statement to the world. 3. Your next step is always your most important one. 4. Jesus said you should. Matthew 28:19-20 - 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,[b] baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” NLT Acts 2:38 - 38 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. NLT James 4:17 - 17 Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. NLT 5. God’s blessing follows obedience. Matthew 3:16-17 – 16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened[b] and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” NLT John 8:28-29 - I do nothing on my own but say only what the Father taught me. 29 And the one who sent me is with me—he has not deserted me. For I always do what pleases him.” NLT Acts 10:36-38 – 36 This is the message of Good News for the people of Israel—that there is peace with God through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee, after John began preaching his message of baptism. 38 And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. NLT James 1:25 - 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. NLT
Pastor Scotty Gibbons, one of Northplace's teaching pastors, joins us this week to discuss the importance of the next generation and our responsibility to pass on our 'God Stories' and commit to praying for them.
Youth Takeover Psalm 78:1-7 - 1 O my people, listen to my instructions. Open your ears to what I am saying, 2 for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past— 3 stories we have heard and known, stories our ancestors handed down to us. 4 We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders. 5 For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, 6 so the next generation might know them— even the children not yet born— and they in turn will teach their own children. 7 So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands. NLT Psalm 78:7 - Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands. NIV Psalm 78:2-4 - I will teach you hidden lessons from our past— 3 stories we have heard and known, stories our ancestors handed down to us. 4 We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders. NLT Psalm 78:5-6 - 5 For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, 6 so the next generation might know them— even the children not yet born— and they in turn will teach their own children. NLT Deuteronomy 6:5-7 - 5 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. 6 And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. 7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. NLT Psalm 78:7 - THEN they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands. NIV 3 John 1:4 - I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth. NLT Four ways to make a difference in this generation: 1. Pray. 2. Get your students to Epic and your children to PC Kids. 3. Encourage them to use their gifts to serve God’s house. 4. Join a Next Gen Dream Team.

Practical Steps to Spiritual Victories Exodus 17:8-13 - 8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.” 10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword. (NIV) 1. You will win when you DO God’s Word. James 1:22-25 - 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. (NIV) 2. You will win when you trust God’s ways. Isaiah 55:8-9 - “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (NIV) Hebrews 11:6 - And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (NIV) 3. You will win when you refuse to quit. Galatians 6:9 - 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest IF we do not give up. (NIV) 1 Corinthians 15:58 - “Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort.” (MSG)
Just like a team of professional football players need a playbook to map out plans and strategies for a game, we as God's people have been given a book to guide us through life. We have access to a tool that helps lead us through the struggles of life and the power to mold us into who God has intended for us to be. It's not enough for us to see and hear God's Word; we need to love it, learn it, and live it.Check out theunfolding.bible for more resources and a monthly reading plan

Exodus 18:13-16 - 13 The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening. 14 When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, “What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?” 15 Moses answered him, “Because the people come to me to seek God’s will. 16 Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God’s decrees and instructions.” (NIV) 1. Be real about your margin Exodus 18:17-18 - 17 Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are doing is not good. 18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone. (NIV) 2. Get a plan Exodus 18:19-22 - 19 Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people’s representative before God and bring their disputes to him. 20 Teach them his decrees and instructions, and show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave. 21 But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. 22 Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you. (NIV) Ephesians 5:15-16 - 15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (NIV) 3. Make the changes Exodus 18:23-24 - 23 If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied.” 24 Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said. (NIV) Psalm 46:10 - “Be still, and know that I am God! (NIV)

Luke 23:39-43 (NIV) 39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” 40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under thesame sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But thisman has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” I want to show you three things we can learn from this statement from Jesus’ final words. Three things that if we do them, they help us to get through a bad day. 1. Remember why you’re still here. Luke 23:42 (NIV) 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Luke 19:10 (NIV) For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” 2. Think Long term Luke 23:43 (NIV) 43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Psalm 30:5 (NIV) Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. James 4:14 (NIV) What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Hebrews 9:27 (ESV) And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment Hebrews 9:27 (MSG) 27-28 Everyone has to die once, then face the consequences. Christ’s death was also a one-time event, but it was a sacrifice that took care of sins forever. 3. Make the most of every opportunity. Ephesians 5:15-16 (NLT) 15 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise… 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.
1 Corinthians 9:24 - Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! NLT Ecclesiastes - 5:18-19 – 18 Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. 19 And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God. NLT Genesis 2:1-3 - Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. 2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. NIV Genesis 2:15 - The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. NIV Genesis 2:19-20 - Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. NIV 3 Keys to Winning at Work 1. See your career as your calling. Ephesians 2:10 - For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. NIV Psalm 139:13-16 - For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. NIV 2. See your work as worship. Colossians 3:17 - And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:23-24 - Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. 3. See your workplace as your mission field. Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that [a] they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (NIV) Hebrews 4:15-16 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (NIV) 1. CRY OUT TO THE WONDERFUL COUNSELOR Matthew 20:29 As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. (NIV) Matthew 20:30 Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” (NIV) Matthew 20:30 Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” (NIV) Psalm 34:17-18 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. (NIV) 2. IGNORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CROWD Matthew 20:31 The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” (NIV) Philippians 1:6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (NIV) 3. COMMUNICATE YOUR NEED TO THE WONDERFUL COUNSELOR Matthew 20:32-33 Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” (NIV) Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (NIV) 1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (NIV) 4. FOLLOW THE WONDERFUL COUNSELOR Matthew 20:34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him. (NIV)
Isaiah 9:6 - For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (NIV) Matthew 19:26 - Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (NIV) 1. Jesus is mighty to save 1 Timothy 1:15–16 - This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. 16 But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life. (NLT) 2 Corinthians 5:21 - God made him who had no sin to be sin [b] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (NIV) 2. Jesus is mighty to heal Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. (NKJV) Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. (NKJV) 3. Jesus is mighty to set you free John 8:32 - 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (NIV) John 8:36 - So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (NIV) 4. Jesus is mighty to provide Philippians 4:19 - 19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (NIV) Philippians 4:15–17 - 15 Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only; 16 for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need. 17 Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account. (NIV)
Ways to Praise Genesis 4:1-5 - Now Adam[a] had sexual relations with his wife, Eve, and she became pregnant. When she gave birth to Cain, she said, “With the Lord’s help, I have produced[b] a man!” 2 Later she gave birth to his brother and named him Abel. When they grew up, Abel became a shepherd, while Cain cultivated the ground. 3 When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the Lord. 4 Abel also brought a gift—the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, 5 but he did not accept Cain and his gift. NLT Matthew 15:8-9 - “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’ NIV 1 Corinthians 14:26 What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up. NIV 1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people. NIV 8 Ways to Praise 1. We praise God with singing. Psalm 47:6 - Sing praises to God, sing praises to our King, sing praises. NIV 2. We praise God by lifting our hands. Psalm 63:4 - I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. NIV 3. We praise God by clapping our hands. Psalm 47:1 - Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. NIV 4. We praise God with instruments. Psalm 150:2-5 - 2 Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. 3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, 4 praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, 5 praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. NIV 5. We praise God with shouting. Psalm 100:1-2 - Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! 2 Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. NLT 6. We praise God with dancing. Psalm 149:3 - Let them praise his name with dancing. NIV 7. We praise God by bowing before Him. Psalm 95:6 - Come let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. NIV 8. We praise God with our lives. Romans 12:1 - And so, dear brothers and sisters,[a] I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. NLT
Lean on Me Galatians 6:2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (NIV) C.A.R.E 1. Commit to pray for them. James 5:16 - Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. (ESV) 2. Acknowledge their pain. Romans 12:15 - Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. 3. Remember your role. A. Listen James 1:19 - My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. (NIV) B. Assure them of hope. Isaiah 40:31 - but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (NIV) C. Stay connected Ecclesiastes 4:12 - A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. (NLT) D. Don’t give up 4. Erase the stigma.
