In this 10th episode interview, Dr. Carrie Gress discusses the historical and cultural origins of modern feminism, arguing that the movement has distorted the authentic nature of womanhood. She traces a trajectory from the Enlightenment through communism and the sexual revolution, suggesting that these shifts pushed women to adopt a masculine ethos that prioritizes career autonomy over family. Dr. Gress contends that this focus on independence has led to widespread unhappiness, loneliness, and a plummeting birth rate across the Western world. The conversation highlights how corporate interests and emotional manipulation encourage women to view motherhood as a burden rather than a source of fulfillment. Ultimately, she advocates for a return to local, relational compassion and the recognition of spiritual motherhood to restore societal balance. https://www.carriegress.com/ Key Takeaways: 0:00 There's something off in our culture about women 4:41 Gatekeepers to civilized society 8:44 First wave 18:04 The masculine ethos 21:26 Manipulating women 25:17 The agenda to uglify women 30:24 Anti-depressants are in fashion and a status symbol 34:43 Action steps   _______________________________________________________________   Follow Jason on TWITTER, INSTAGRAM & LINKEDIN Twitter.com/JasonHartmanROI Instagram.com/jasonhartman1/ Linkedin.com/in/jasonhartmaninvestor/ Call our Investment Counselors at: 1-800-HARTMAN (US) or visit: https://www.jasonhartman.com/ Free Class:  Easily get up to $250,000 in funding for real estate, business or anything else: http://JasonHartman.com/Fund CYA Protect Your Assets, Save Taxes & Estate Planning: http://JasonHartman.com/Protect Get wholesale real estate deals for investment or build a great business – Free Course: https://www.jasonhartman.com/deals Special Offer from Ron LeGrand: https://JasonHartman.com/Ron Free Mini-Book on Pandemic Investing: https://www.PandemicInvesting.com

In this episode of All Rise, Abdu Murray and Derek Caldwell sit down with Dr. Carrie Gress to discuss one of the most influential—and controversial—forces in modern culture: feminism.  Drawing from her book Something Wicked: Why Feminism Can't Be Fused with Christianity, Carrie explores the historical roots of feminism, its vision of men and women, and why she believes its promises have ultimately left many people more isolated, confused, and unhappy.  The conversation also touches on motherhood, the sexual revolution, identity, the surprising relationship between feminism and the occult, and why Christianity historically offered a radically different vision for women.  Carrie Gress, Ph.D., is a scholar at the Institute for Human Ecology at Catholic University of America. She is the founder and editor at the online women's magazine TheologyofHome.com and the author of ten books, including the Theology of Home series, The Anti-Mary Exposed, and The End of Woman: How Smashing the Patriarchy Has Destroyed Us. This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) holds down the fort without Ellie for a delightfully nerdy and fascinating conversation with founder and speech-language pathologist Nicole Gress, MS, CCC-SLP. Nicole took what they learned from their medical training, lived experience as a genderfluid individual, and years of interacting with gender diverse clients in the Bay Area and founded Undead Voice (@undead.voice), an online, community-driven platform dedicated to eradicating the voice dysphoria experienced by 85% of the trans population. The platform is open to people of all gender identities and ages, so whether you are 9 or 90, you can take the steps toward reclaiming your voice.  Imagine feeling overwhelming discomfort every single time you speak and the impact that would have on your ability to participate in the world and show up as your full self. This widespread detrimental impact on mental health was one of many reasons why Nicole was inspired to create something new, outside the restrictions of the medical system. With the coaching, curriculum, and community support of the Undead Voice Lab, gender diverse individuals can discover their most affirming voice in about 4 to 6 months of training. We get real nerdy with it as Nicole breaks down exactly how the program works. They discuss the 3 influences that create a voice: environmental, cultural and physical, along with the 5 pillars that you can learn to master: tilt, weight, resonance, pitch and dynamics. Since environmental and cultural influences are intrinsic to who you are and help to showcase your personality, the program leaves those alone and focuses on the physical aspects of voice, teaching participants how to shift and control the size and shape of their vocal instrument. Leigh and Nicole also talk about voice transition as a form of accessible, non-invasive gender affirming care for trans youth. You can learn more about Undead Voice at www.undeadvoice.com. Registration is open right now for the Jumpstart program, a free 3-week intro program designed exclusively for trans and gender diverse people looking to begin or refine their voice transition journeys. Jumpstart participants are eligible for a $1,000 tuition credit toward the full voice training program, Undead Voice Lab.  Download this free Trans Voice 101 Guide if you are interested in learning more about voice transitioning.  Don't forget to show your support for our tiny podcasting team by shopping small at bit.ly/lezmerch & picking up Lez-ssentials songs on Bandcamp.  Give us your own answers to our Q & Gay on Instagram and follow along on Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and BlueSky @lezhangoutpod. 1/29/26 - Jim sits down with author, philosopher, and scholar Dr. Carrie Gress to unpack her book Something Wicked: Why Feminism Can't Be Fused with Christianity from Sophia Institute Press, examining why modern feminist ideology—despite often appealing language about equality and empowerment—ultimately conflicts with the Christian understanding of the human person, vocation, marriage, and family.  Drawing from history, philosophy, theology, and cultural analysis, Dr. Gress traces the roots of feminism, explaining how it reshaped ideas of womanhood, motherhood, sexuality, and power, and reveals why attempts to create a “Catholic feminism” fall short by substituting autonomy and resentment for truth, sacrifice, and love. The conversation also explores how feminist assumptions have quietly influenced Church life, education, and pastoral practice, why the ideology has become so persuasive even among believers, and how Catholics can respond with clarity and charity while remaining faithful to authentic Church teaching on dignity, equality, and true freedom. Dr. Gress challenges viewers to think critically about the cultural narratives shaping society today and invites them to rediscover the beauty and coherence of the Catholic vision for men and women rooted in Christ and ordered toward genuine human flourishing.

Em Burnip is passionate about nature and the environment and when her daughter Grace was born she matched her business skills with her values to create Eco Wedding Festivals. But taking control of her own career path was less straightforward than simply setting up an eco-business while she was on maternity leave. She had developed a secure, good, if not always satisfying, career as a personal assistant and events executive for a Big 4 consulting firm for 17 years, with a special interest in sustainability. Her efforts to get into a sustainability-led role were always thwarted, however, until she was given a nudge to find her own niche as an eco-entrepreneur. With a small child to consider she paused before making taking a leap and making the necessary sacrifices to move forward.Em advises people who want to secure a green job or to become an eco-entrepreneur to first find out what they are good at, to put in research and start connecting with people in the field they want to work in. From her own viewpoint, while she is passionate about nature and biodiversity, she considered where her skills and training would be best used, knowing that she didn't want to spend the rest of her working life in a job she didn't enjoy. As she puts it: “At what point do I go for something that I really believe in and love?” Having her daughter Grace put perspective around that decision, as she considered what she would say to her own child when she was making future career choices. “I'd rather she was happy in a job and loved it than earning lots and not being happy,” says Em, who gives credit to Helen Jennings-Petz and Kerry North for the nudges and support. Grace, now aged 10, currently wants to be a marine biologist. Em talks about the importance of teaching young children about the environment in a way that doesn't scare them. She believes in helping people discover the green jobs they'll find in every sector and she volunteers at an eco learning charity, Greener Stourport, and completed a course in environmental studies at the Open University. Em explains that as people are becoming more eco-conscious, they are demanding more sustainable choices to spend their own money on. But weddings are notoriously expensive and it is possible to buy cheap unsustainable alternatives online. She delivers the shocking statistic that the average UK wedding has a carbon footprint similar to the annual footprint of a UK family of four – and there are around a quarter of a million weddings in the UK alone.Em encourages couples who want to put the planet on their guest list to come to one of her Eco Wedding Festivals to speak to eco-friendly, ethical businesses as they showcase their offerings. Done right, it makes for a music-filled fun day out with sample food from caterers, displays from florists, and a chance to meet sustainable suppliers in beautiful venues. Drawing from her books The End of Woman and The Anti-Mary Exposed, Dr. Gress explains how feminist ideology, once framed as liberation, ultimately detached freedom from truth and identity from the body.We discuss how rejecting the Catholic vision of the human person has led to confusion, isolation, and cultural instability, particularly around femininity, motherhood, and the family. This conversation moves beyond critique to recovery, pointing back to the Church's understanding of woman rooted in dignity, complementarity, and the example of Mary.✴️

How do you land a job at a bank that creates positive social, environmental and cultural change? And how do you get to hear about banks like Triodos in the first place?Whitni Thomas, the daughter of missionaries (her father is a vicar), says that she never meant to go into banking.Yet she landed a plum (and highly sought-after) graduate role at JP Morgan, despite telling her careers advisor at university that she did not want a corporate career and she didn't want to work in New York. But one day, stopping and pausing, she realised her job wasn't fulfilling and Whitni set about finding something that aligned with her values - the values she was brought up with. She pivoted, thinking her future lay in development work, took on a role in Mexico with two grassroots organisations that provided microcredit to marginalised women and from there went on to work with fair trade organisations. From there, she went to study for a masters in development studies at London School of Economics and Political Science, gaining a distinction. So what's different about Triodos and why has Whitni been there for two decades? At the time, it was a small organisation, based in the Netherlands. Though it's still not a mainstream name in the UK, it is well-known as a 'green' bank there, offering complete transparency so there are no nasty surprises if you're an investor or choose to bank with the organisation. Now there are 100,000 customers who want to put their money into an organisation with values-led guiding principles. On top of her day job, Whitni believes in putting something back into society, locally and further afield and says she has learned so much from being a trustee at several foundations, including those with Quaker-based principles such as the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.Whitni says it is difficult to give advice to young people who want to find careers with genuine, authentic values, because the job market has changed so much recently. But she says challenging oneself, and challenging organisations from within is key and considers B Corps which don't just pay lip service to 'green' values to be a good place to start.Triodos Bank UKBetter Society CapitalThe Joseph Rowntree FoundationPaces Sheffield London School of Economics and Political SciencesYou might also like to listen to:David Kohnstamm, Chief sustainability officer, Leafcloud S4 E3Justin Kelly, CEO of Glass Futures, chair of Sustainable Ventures S4 E1Shaheer Hafeez, ACA, Director of ESG and Climate Risk, KPMG S3 E2Sarah Daly, sustainability consultant and climate champion S3 E1About ProGRESS:Host Sandra Fraser invites guests to discuss their pro- Green, Ethical, Sustainable and Socially responsible jobs, courses or activities and asks for real-world insights into the pathways and careers that led to them.Instagram: @progress_green_careers_podcastLinkedIn: ProGRESS, the green, values-led careers podcastOriginal content © Sandra FraserOriginal music © Lyze KessellEmail: hello [@] mypro-gress.comExpect revelations, lightbulb moments and an informative listen on ProGRESS, with plenty of insights as guests explain how and why got into their Green, Ethical, Sustainable and Socially Responsible career or course (the GRESS of ProGRESS) with plenty of tips if you want to do the same. She led a delegation of students to the COP26 global climate summit and instigated the annual online Youth Climate Summit. In addition to all of the above, Jess has worked as a policy adviser at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and has researched Russia and international climate policy. But Jess didn't set out for a career in sustainability. She studied Russian and French, and played the clarinet to a high standard. The common theme running through everything she has done is contributing to events, society and positive things. That's what the National Education Nature Park project is all about – introducing children of all ages and young people to their outdoor spaces and connecting them to the power and pleasure of nature. In this episode Jess explains how she landed her high profile job (the project was visited by the Prince and Princess of Wales in the summer of 2025) and why she considers languages an subject choice through which to launch yourself into anything.Jess thinks of herself as a Jack of all trades - and as explained, has enjoyed a portfolio career – but she has never had a plan for her career, and that means she's never been bored either. In fact, at the time the recording she was about to embark on a role researching and translating Russian literature – particularly environmental and feminist themes – at the University of East Anglia.A key career tip from Jess is to enjoy what you are really good at and go and study that rather than targeting an environmental science degree at university - then take your values into other areas of work and spread the word.Mentioned in this podcastNational Education Nature ParkNatural History Museum garden visit DEFRA careersHow Bad Are Bananas? Today Razib talks to David  Gress, a Danish historian. The son of an American literary scholar and a Danish writer, he grew up in Denmark, read Classics at Cambridge, and then earned a Ph.D. in medieval history from Bryn Mawr College in the US in 1981. During a fellowship form 1982-1992 at Stanford University's Hoover Institution, he published on Cold‑War strategy, German political culture, and Nordic security. He has been a visiting fellow and lecturer at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge, fellow at the Danish Institute of International Affairs, an assistant professor of Classics at Aarhus University, and professor of the history of civilization at Boston University. He co‑directed the Center for the Study of America and the West at the Foreign Policy Research Institute in Philadelphia and remains a senior fellow of the Danish free‑market think tank CEPOS while writing a regular column for Jyllands‑Posten. His breakthrough book, From Plato to NATO: The Idea of the West and Its Opponents (1998), argues that Western success sprang from a hard‑edged fusion of Roman order, Germanic liberty, Christian morality, and Smithian economics, rather than being a single disgraceful arc from Greco‑Roman‐paganism to secular Enlightenment that bypassed the Middle Ages. Razib asks Gress how he would have written Plato to NATO today, more than 25 years later, and he says he would have emphasized Christianity's role in creating a unified Western culture out of Greco-Roman and Germanic diversity more. Gress also reiterates that he does not deny the Greek foundation of Western Civilization, but rather, his work was a corrective to a very thin and excessively motivated and partisan narrative that stripped out vast periods of European history. They also discuss Gress' own own peculiar identity, the son of an American, born to a Danish mother, raised in Denmark who converted to Catholicism as an adult, and how that all fits into a broader European identity. They also discuss the impact of mass immigration on the national identities of Europe in the last generation, and Gress' opinions as to the European future. Razib also asks Gress about the role that evolutionary ideas may have in shaping human history, and how his own views may have changed since From Plato to NATO. They also discuss when it is plausible to say that the West was a coherent idea, and whether the Protestant Reformation was the beginning of the end for the unitary civilization that was Latin Christendom.

In this episode of the Celebrate Kids podcast, Dr. Kathy delves into the challenges young people, especially young women, face in today's culture regarding identity and the perception of heroes. In the segment "Face in the Dark," she discusses a thought-provoking quote from Carrie Gress of Newsweek, highlighting how feminism has altered traditional narratives around womanhood, suggesting that envy has shifted from being seen as a downfall to a badge of honor. Gress argues that the push for women to emulate men—both mentally and biologically—has led to a loss of what it truly means to be a woman. Dr. Kathy addresses these issues head-on, offering insights and guidance for parents on how to support and encourage their children in navigating these complex cultural dynamics. Tune in for an enlightening discussion that touches on the nuances of modern femininity and the importance of embracing authentic identities.

Feminism doesn't affect you in any way, right? Well, maybe it does, in a sneaky sort of way.    Timmerie recently had a great conversation with Dr. Carrie Gress, author of The End of Woman: How Smashing the Patriarchy Destroyed Us. Together, they explored a critical question: How do we combat modern feminism from within? Some content may not be suitable for all listeners.    Key Points from the Podcast:   Unmasking Feminism's Anti-Catholic Roots: Timmerie and Dr. Gress reveal that many feminist icons held anti-Catholic views, with some even dabbling in Satanism, Wicca, and witchcraft. Scary! Feminism's stance often clashes with the Church's teachings on abortion, marriage, and gender. It's concerning to really consider the impact feminism has had on society, and it affects women in many subtle ways.   Feminism's Cultural Impact: The influence of feminism permeates our culture, affecting everything from media and education to norms within marriages. It's everywhere and it's so hard to get away from! This can really mess up relationships with your spouse and children, promoting a "no-contact" culture devoid of responsibility and connection.    The Anti-Mary Exposed: Dr. Gress' previous works, including The Anti-Mary Exposed, show how the virtues of Our Lady are so different from modern feminist ideals. Our Lady is all about humility, wisdom, and grace—qualities often rejected by contemporary culture.    Feminism and Family Dynamics: It's sad how feminism encourages women to treat their husbands like children, making it all about control and dominance. This undermines the natural, respectful partnership intended in marriage.    Looking to Our Lady: Our Lady is the ultimate model for women, embodying virtues that challenge the feminist narrative. She's the one that women should aspire to be.    Finding Role Models: Finding modern role models who live out these virtues is key. These women, whether in daily life or historical figures like St. Edith Stein, can guide our society toward a more fulfilling, faith-aligned existence.    Action Steps:   Reflect on Our Lady's Virtues: Compare your life and choices to the virtues of Our Lady. After fifty years of feminism, many people can't even define “woman.” Bestselling author Carrie Gress, Ph.D., shares her powerful new book, The End of Woman: How Smashing the Patriarchy Has Destroyed Us, where she boldly proclaims what has been hiding in the shadows: “feminism” has abolished women. Gress argues that fifty years of feminism have had the opposite of the intended effect and have granted primacy of place to the traditionally male sphere of life, while simultaneously devaluing the typical attributes, virtues, and strengths of women. Savage and Gress cover the history of feminism and its philosophical roots in Nietzche, Descartes, Marx, and more. Why celebrating womanhood has been replaced with idealization of the masculine. The Marxist plan to fracture families; The Communist connections of prominent feminists. Why Biden is embracing trans education for children. What can parents do to protect their children? Why we need to recognize, respect, and celebrate womanhood. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
