As we all know, agriculture has its ups and downs. Maybe the cows got out, the markets went down, or maybe like this year, you've got just enough rain on your farm that you think it's time to open up your own waterpark! Whatever the case may be, family is always there for you. Steven and Rogene Wegner up in Shawano County describe to us a little bit more about their Sesquicentennial farm. They teach us that if you've got family with you, you can get work done and have some fun at the same time. They've had over 150 years of experience. EPISODE 26 DETAILS FEDERAL ORDER REQUIRES MANDATORY TESTING FOR COWS AS VIRUS SPREADS. The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) issued a Federal Order Wednesday that requires testing for interstate movement of dairy cattle and mandatory reporting of positive test results. The order aims to prevent the spread of bovine influenza A virus (BIAV) in response to the detection of the virus in dairy cattle. Following the confirmation of HPAI in a commercial poultry flock in February 2022, over 1,100 HPAI detections have been identified on poultry farms in the U.S. Since late March 2024, USDA, along with other agencies and laboratories, investigated the emergence of H5N1 virus in dairy cows. Under the Federal Order, dairy cattle must receive a negative test for Influenza A virus at approved laboratories before interstate movement. Positive test results must be reported to USDA APHIS by laboratories and state veterinarians. The order aims to mitigate the risk of further spread of the virus, which poses a threat to both cattle and poultry, and to ensure the safety of livestock and the agricultural industry. On the morning of February 4, 2015, 18-year-old Sara Graham didn't show up for her morning shift at Walmart in Pembroke, North Carolina. A few hours later, her van was found abandoned in a field halfway between Walmart and her home in Fairmont, North Carolina. There were no signs of a struggle, and the doors were locked manually. Despite a thorough investigation, Sara remains missing, and authorities are still searching for her. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Robeson County Sheriff's Office at 910-671-3100, the FBI Charlotte Office at 704-671-6100, or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov. There is still a $5,000 reward available for information in Sara's disappearance. On June 18, 2020, more than 1,000 miles away from North Carolina, 22-year-old Katelyn Kelley was reported missing in Shawano, Wisconsin. No one had seen or heard from her since around 3:00 am on June 17. An extensive search for Katelyn began, but tragically, almost a year later, her remains were discovered. While no official cause or manner of death has been revealed, many sources suggest that Katelyn was a homicide victim. Investigators continue looking into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and death. If you have any information, please call the Menominee Tribal Police at 715-799-3881. Both Sara Graham and Katelyn Kelley are Indigenous women whose stories have not received much attention in the media or on podcasts. Because of this, I'd like to shed light on their stories and give them the recognition they deserve. There are some heroes that protect people physically and save their life. There are other heroes that protect people mentally and save their life. However, there are some heroes that are so great, they protect people both physically and mentally. Today's guest is one of those select few! Welcome to episode 73 of Warriors Unmasked! Today we sit down with veteran, guitar player, and mental health advocate, Chief Master Sergeant Dean L. Unger. Chief Unger was raised in Shawano, Wisconsin, where he graduated from high school in 1991. After being raised in an unsafe environment, from a broken home to a blended family, he knew that after graduating he had a chance to escape. This need to escape was the driving force behind why he enlisted in the Air Force. Hit play to hear how this decision led him to a life of service and honor to many! You'll also hear what 30 years of service and over 15+ deployments taught Dean about life and managing your mental health. The action he has seen on the battlefield is nothing short of incredible. His heroism in the Air Force even resulted in him becoming a recipient of a Purple Heart, which is one of the most prestigious honors someone in the armed forces could have. However, what is truly remarkable about Chief Master Sergeant Dean L. Unger, is his true love for people. After the rollercoaster of military life, he has now focused his attention on helping other military men, women, and families find the courage and strength to speak up and say, “I am not okay.” This type of leadership and giving others permission to speak up is what this show is all about! We hope that you love this episode as much as we did. From the bottom of our hearts, we want to give a special thank you to Sergeant Dean and to all of our veterans listening today.
