Officers responded to a call at 2:09 a.m. and found a man with a gunshot wound. Despite attempts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's identity is being withheld until next of kin are notified, and no suspects have been identified. Police urge anyone with information to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers, where anonymous tips may lead to a cash reward. STORY 2: Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church Hosting Easter Festival On March 29 Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church is hosting its annual Easter Festival on Saturday, March 29, from 1-4 p.m. at Lawrenceville Elementary School's playground. Convicted on seven counts, including aggravated child molestation and incest, his crimes were discovered in April 2023 when the victim's parents found incriminating video footage. After fleeing, Esquilin-Perez evaded police for 18 hours before surrendering. He must also register as a sex offender. Gwinnett DA Patsy Austin-Gatson expressed hope for the victim's healing, calling the sentence justice for the family. STORY 5: Gwinnett legislators drop plan to cut school board member pay for firing superintendents early Legislation aimed at cutting Gwinnett County school board members' salaries for early superintendent firings has been revised, removing the controversial pay reduction provision. House Bill 767 initially sought to penalize board members financially after costly buyouts for fired superintendents Calvin Watts and J. Alvin Wilbanks. The revised bill now focuses on allowing all board members, not just the chairperson, to speak to the media. A Coromandel business owner and former army medic desperately tried to save the life of a man who was shot near his remote property. Police have confirmed that one person is dead and another seriously injured after the incident, which occurred this afternoon about eight-and a-half kilometres south of the Coromandel Township, towards the top of the Peninsula. The injured man has been airlifted to Auckland City Hospital. One person was arrested and police are considering laying charges. They are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident. A Coromandel business owner, who did not want his name used, spoke with Checkpoint producer Matthew Theunissen.

STORY 1: Police K-9 pursues suspect accused of attacking ex-girlfriend Javaris Virgin, 30, from Lawrenceville, faces multiple charges including false imprisonment and obstruction following two altercations with his ex-girlfriend. On July 29, Virgin allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend, damaging her phone and injuring her wrist, but left before police arrived. On August 10, he returned, assaulted her again, and fled from police, leading to a brief foot chase. Police K9 Nitro and handler Sgt. Doan tracked Virgin, who was eventually found hiding in bushes and arrested. Virgin is held in Gwinnett County Jail on a $10,350 bond. STORY 3: Police: Man Shot To Death After Argument At Gwinnett County Home On Wednesday afternoon, a fatal shooting occurred on Josephine Road in unincorporated Gwinnett County near Doraville. Gwinnett County police responded to a 911 call around 3:30 p.m. and found the victim dead from at least one gunshot wound. The shooter fled the scene, and the motive is currently unknown. The victim's name is being withheld until next of kin are notified. We'll be right back Break 2: MONSTER JAM STORY 4: Motorcyclist Pleads Guilty In High Speed Chase That Led To Trooper's Death Gerson Danilo Ayala-Rodriguez, 21, pleaded guilty to first-degree vehicular homicide on Wednesday for the January crash that killed Georgia State Trooper Jimmy Cenescar. Ayala-Rodriguez led Trooper Cenescar on a high-speed chase at speeds up to 140 mph before the trooper lost control of his patrol car, resulting in the fatal crash. In addition to the homicide charge, Ayala-Rodriguez was convicted of multiple misdemeanors including reckless driving and operating an unlicensed vehicle. As part of a plea deal, he will serve 17 years in prison. The case highlighted the dangers of reckless driving and the tragic loss of a young law enforcement officer. STORY 5: Study: Georgia Gwinnett College's Economic Impact Over $603M In fiscal year 2023, Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) generated over $603 million in economic impact for Gwinnett County and the Atlanta metro area, marking a 16% increase from the previous year.
