Sometimes you just have to take a deep breath, spread your wings and just do it. It's scary. The unknown is staring you in the face, but the regret of not trying is greater than the regret of actually going for it. Brandy Schultz, founder of Adventure Nannies, and Shenandoah Davis, cofounder and CEO, took a chance on themselves; they pivoted as they built and scaled the Adventure Nannies. Their story is one of trial-and-error, courage, letting things go and figuring it out as they went along. More about Brandy: Brandy founded Adventure Nannies after 8 years of working as a travel nanny herself—cliff diving with kids in Italy, farming in Southern France, attending Burning Man, and learning survival skills in the Rocky Mountain wilderness. These experiences, combined with Brandy's background in education reform and gender studies, led her to create Adventure Nannies. Her passion for active families and dynamic visionary leadership has propelled our agency from its infancy into the high-touch boutique nanny agency it is today. When Brandy isn't at home with her son and two dogs, she's out on the road with her husband's band, The Lumineers. More about Shenandoah: Originally brought in as a small business consultant, Shenandoah joined Adventure Nannies in 2016 as Chief Operations Officer and transitioned to CEO in 2018. Shenandoah holds a Bachelor's degree in opera performance and English and, as a touring musician, has performed in 12 countries spanning 4 continents. She volunteers with Rain City Rock Camp in her free time and loves reading and preparing meals for family and friends. Shenandoah lives with her puppies Pawlina and Batman and rabbit Meatball.

Cornelius the Groundhog is excited to end hibernation and soon go back to school. But when his mother must leave him to forage for food, Cornelius is left in the care of Mrs. Squirrel. Not happy about this, Cornelius decides to go off on his own … a choice he soon regrets. Will Mrs. Squirrel come to the rescue?Granny MacDuff is pleased to bring you this story in conjunction with Adventure Nannies!About The Adventure Nannies:It's always been about adventure. The idea for Adventure Nannies was born in Denver in 2007, when founder Brandy Schultz made a name for herself as “The Adventure Nanny,” joining families on backpacking treks through the Canadian wilderness, trips to Burning Man, and other off-the-beaten-path destinations. In between Brandy's adventures, she met an aspiring musician, Wesley Schultz (now of The Lumineers), who had recently moved to town and was working as a busboy to make ends meet. They began dating and, as Brandy's calendar filled up with families trying to hire her for upcoming trips, she saw an opportunity to launch a business and support Wesley's music. The Adventure Nannies website officially launched in 2012 and was geared toward finding exceptional travel nannies with unique skill sets for adventurous families across the country. The company's services instantly became popular among families living on the coasts who were relocating or living temporarily in new cities. Brandy's drive and passion for helping families find the perfect nannies continued, but at the same time a song Wesley had written nearly a decade earlier, “Ho Hey,” became an overnight radio sensation and The Lumineers embarked on an expansive set of tours, being on the road for nearly 300 nights a year.In the midst of the band's success, Shenandoah Davis was brought in as a consultant in 2015 and quickly came on board to run Adventure Nannies while Brandy went on her own adventures with her family. An ex-musician herself, Shenandoah had met both Wes and Brandy through musical circles. Shenandoah has dived into the agency headfirst, quickly becoming an industry leader speaking at nationwide industry conferences, and joining the board of directors of The Association for Premier Agencies, the only group that sets ethical and best-practice standards in the largely unregulated field of domestic staffing agencies.Adventure Nannies has grown substantially over the past few years, offering private educator and newborn care specialist searches in addition to nanny searches, and growing from a team of 3 to a team of 17 (and 5 kiddos, 19 dogs, and 9 cats). Head to adventurenannies.com to learn more about our work, and how we can support you and your family! For more Granny, follow her updates at the links below!https://www.instagram.com/fairytalepodcast/http://storicmedia.com/fairy-tales-with-granny-macduffSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Shenandoah Davis is the Co-founder and CEO of Adventure Nannies, a nationwide domestic staffing agency that has been helping progressive families find nannies, private educators, and newborn care specialists since 2012. Shenandoah grew up attached to the piano. Being homeschooled, she would spend each day racing through her lessons so she could have time to practice for as long as possible. After graduating from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in opera performance, she packed up and moved to Seattle to pursue the music and art scene. Shenandoah has toured four continents as a singer, songwriter, and DIY musician performing in listening spaces and art galleries before taking a position at a large restaurant group in Seattle as a brand manager. She then joined Adventure Nannies as their COO in 2016. She serves on the board of several nonprofits and is committed to advancing the careers and dreams of women entrepreneurs through the realm of equitable domestic staffing in the US. In this episode… Being a successful female leader does not mean that you have to lead like someone else — or like a man. You only need to forge your own way. Every woman is different, and there is value in redefining what it means to lead like a woman. You don't have to stress yourself with a boss babe mentality, dress and act like a man, or have a big voice. However, by being authentic, you can be powerful and empower others as a leader. And if something doesn't work, learn from it and grow. In this episode of the Lead Like A Woman Show, Andrea Heuston is joined by Shenandoah Davis, the Co-founder and CEO of Adventure Nannies, to talk about leading a business like a woman, experiencing success, and the power of music. They also talk about recent changes at Adventure Nannies and the value of being an authentic and empowered female leader. Stay tuned.

I cover the age, gender, and focus of the page archetype and then look at each of the four pages as an archetypal inner child. I include upright and reversed interpretations. In this episode, I will revisit the concept of reading reversals in tarot and offer some ways to develop your reversal-reading toolkit. I discuss how reversals present an alteration or disruption of the energy of the card and how reading reversals is a process-based skill, rather than one based in memorization. I will then cover three pathways that a reversed card may present (disconnection, resistance, or release) with an example of each. I will then discuss some reversal interpretations of cards from the major arcana that I have developed over the course of my tarot practice. Enjoy! In this episode, I will work to reframe the 8, 9, and 10 of swords cards. Although the imagery on these cards is dark and ominous, I view them as invitations to feel and heal. To explain this, I will draw on concepts from Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and the book 'It's Not Always Depression' by Hilary Jacobs Hendel to distinguish between inhibitory emotions and core emotions. I will then connect these concepts to the imagery in the 8-10 of swords cards. We will then turn to the 8-10 of cups cards to define the healing invitation of these challenging swords cards. Enjoy! I will describe how to differentiate between the two masculine suits and the two feminine suits by exploring the concepts of the human and spiritual realms. I will then examine where each archetypal court figure fits on the spectrum of gender identity and how to see past the limitations these archetypes put on being fully inclusive of all gender identities. Harvey Danger was one of the last of the Buzz Bin bands, in those waning when major labels were still forces to be reckoned with and MTV rotation was all it took to cement a song’s status as a generation-defining hit. Fresh out of college, the band scored its one major hit with “Flagpole Sitta,” the second track on the band’s debut record, which, all told cost around $3,000 to record.  Through some combination of unpopular choices, one major flub on the part of some crew member for 120 minutes and poor choices from above, the band would never manage to recapture such success, in spite of, quite arguably, releasing two far stronger records before disbanding for good in 2009.  In the days since, Nelson’s seemingly tried his hands at everything, playing keyboards for indie darlings The Long Winters, taking on backup vocal duties for the likes of Nada Surf and Death Cab for Cutie, taking roles in a number of films and writing for Seattle’s alt-weekly, The Stranger.  Last summer, Nelson even returned to songwriting, releasing his first solo record, Make Good Choices for the tiny Seattle label Really Records. Nelson and I met up while he was in New York to help a friend work on a musical, also using the opportunity to play an intimate show downstairs at Brooklyn’s Union Hall, along with his new wife Shenandoah Davis, who accompanied him on piano as he worked through solo songs and the occasional Harvey Danger number. We spoke about gauging one’s own accomplishments in the wake of massive success, occupational diversification and how to take a backseat to someone else’s creative force.

Every time a drum kit comes into our house I am kinda worried that the cafe downstairs is going to have a tantrum about the noise, but we've been lucky so far, and long may it continue.  More worrisome in this instance was probably Jonnie Common's incredible box of tricks. In a slight change to the usual lineup, my wee brother happened to be over from the States visiting when we recorded this, so he did the sound for this.  He has his own company over there, called Red Cottage Audio, and spends most of his time as the sound designer/recording engineer for the Boston Ballet, so I am not sure quite how he took the change from that to trying make a bunch of pop songs sound good in our living room. Still, it's all about the results, and the results are fantastic. The pictures are also especially good this time around.  Fee has contributed photos before - most notably to, I think, the Shenandoah Davis and Pictish Trail sessions - but this time she really has excelled herself.  I generally cut the photo sets down to about twenty pics, but in this case I really couldn't manage any fewer than thirty, I liked them that much.  Head over to Flickr to see the set. As per usual, all the Toad Session recordings are made available for free sharing/downloading/whatever, just after the full interview podcast, which is below, and as well as the main video at the top of the page, we have individual videos of every song as well (see a bit further down) as well, finally, as the full tracklisting for the podcast itself at the bottom of the page.  Oh, and this wouldn't be a proper plug if I didn't point out that Inspector Tapehead's debut album, Duress Code, can now be purchased from Song, by Toad Records.
