A Magvető Kiadóval közös program.

In today's housing market there is a new dimension to consider beyond price, commute time and schools in the neighbourhood - climate risks. As a homeowner, preparing for future costs amidst increasing storms and extreme weather events is crucial. "Canada exceeded $3 billion in insured damages last year, and uninsured values totaled $9-12 billion," says Kathryn Bakos, Managing Director, Finance and Resilience at the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation Faculty of Environment, University of Waterloo. On this episode of the Big Blue Marble Podcast we reveal what extreme weather event is the biggest risk to our homes right now, and we discuss how that "perceived" risk alone may not only affect a home's value but also make it harder to sell. "On average across Canada we saw an 8.2% price reduction and the homes stayed on the market approximately 20 per cent longer," adds Bakos. From tips on how to future proof your home to insurance limitations, this is one episode every homeowner must hear.

Welcome back to the rose bros podcast! This episode we are joined by Jamie Bakos, President of Titan Clean Energy Projects, for another edition of the Rundle Eco-Capitalism Podcast Series, where the idea is to explore companies giving back to the environment while also making a profit. Titan collects & repurposes waste products such as wood waste and agricultural residue (think flax or hemp) and converts the material into pure carbon for future use in products like soil additives, animal feed and water and purification.Instead of burning carbon trapped in waste products, Titan is able to prevent additional carbon from being released into the atmosphere. In addition, Titan has recently developed a use for the activated carbon in new plastic products, and has been generating revenue from selling carbon credits as well.We sat down for a smooth cup of rose bros coffee and discussed the carbon cycle and how new products can be made from waste products, the $200 billion carbon credit market, finding product market fit, the $5 billion carbon extraction industry and a lot more. Biochar is a product created by applying lots of heat to plant matter in the absence of oxygen. This creates a form of pure carbon, not that dissimilar to what you would put on a bbq, but much purer. This substance that is created can then be stored in soils which locks away this carbon for hundreds, potentially thousands of years. It also has the added benefit of holding moisture and nutrients within its pores, potentially boosting crop growth too. It sounds like an interesting idea but I wanted to speak to someone in the know to find out a bit more. My guest today is Jamie Bakos from Titan Projects. After graduating as an environmental engineer student, Jamie worked his way through jobs where he had to figure out what to do with waste streams. This is what eventually lead him to set up Titan Projects and to focus on biochar as a solution to many organic matter waste streams and also as a solution to climate change. We also chat about some of Titan Projects other projects all trying to find a use for carbon. For more info on TitanProjects check out www.titan-projects.com and for more on carbon-based products go to https://carbon4climate.com/ Please join the Facebook Community to help us find more solutions at https://www.facebook.com/groups/disruptiveenvironmentalist
