On this week's edition of the podcast the lads discuss another Scottie Scheffler masterclass at the Memorial as he won his third event in four starts and will rightly be the overwhelming favourite to win next week's US Open.Shane Lowry's putting continues to be a worry despite all of his excellent golf from tee to green while slow play reared its ugly head at the US Women's Open but there were positive signs for Leona Maguire despite a third missed cut in a row at Erin Hills.

Talk Birdie To Me

After a massive weekend in the US Women's Open at Erin Hills, and a big tournament at 'Jacks Place', Ala Memorial, we're back with a busy Talk Birdie To Me podcast last today. Nick and Mark were very impressed with Maja Stark in her win in the US Open, Nick says she is 'an outstanding player', and Mark agrees, bit admits to not paying a huge amount of attention to her prior to the weekend. Nick has followed her for a while and fills Mark in on her backstory.Whilst he loved Maja's win, Mark dislikes the Erin Hills course and explains why, Nick discusses the setup of the greens, and why he felt it could have been better. Mark's view is that is was set up to deliver boring golf, Nick feels if it was windy that would have livened it up. Whilst Maya was impressive, on form Nick feels Nelly Korda probably should have won but her putting lets her down, and he explains why. Nick then raises the women's 'super slam' and the only player to win it.....who just happens to be an Aussie! Mark cannot believe that this achievement from the legendary Karrie Webb slips under the radar, he also can't believe that Karen Lunn still is not credited with having won a major.Onto Memorial. Having played it, Nick describes is as 'a Players week'., he loved it. And he said it always feels special when Jack Nicklaus is around. Nick tells a story about playing Memorial, and mid-tournament being in the breakfast area, when Jack asked to join him, Nick describes it as one of the greatest conversations he's ever had. Scottie Scheffler killed it again. He plays the 'right shots at the right time' according to Nick. Mark starts banging on about Sepp Straka again, and Nick and Dan ban him from putting Straka in our Betr multi next week. And then. Mark is worked up over a new Top 100 list he has seen - the Worlds Top 100 Golf Courses list which he believes contains some appalling oversights. Nick and Mark run through the list and discuss what shouldn't be there, and what should. Nicks changes his Top 5 plans in the turn and decides to do the the Top 5 courses that should have made the Worlds Top 100 Golf Courses list but didn't.Feedback and we start with some constructive criticism from wolfpacker Jeff. Then into comments on LIV buying into the DPWT, and reaction to Marks comments last week of: 'are you a LIV lover or a PGA hater'. Big PING global results this week from Nick, particularly as there were two big events over the weekend. And Marks masterclass, inspired by Maja Stark, on 'hovering' the club. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Another week, another Sunday episode reacting to a Scottie Scheffler win on the PGA Tour. Brendan reads through some stats to help put Scottie's three-year run in some historical context before Andy runs through Scheffler's 2017 Walker Cup teammates to show how much his game has improved in eight years. The two are downright giddy that Ian Baker-Finch dropped a "Sheriff" on the broadcast on Sunday which was promptly added to the soundboard. Andy and Brendan also tie up some loose ends on The Memorial by chatting about strong weeks from Ben Griffin and Sepp Straka. Speaking of good weeks, Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler made the most of their sponsor exemptions and Andy is not happy about these free invites into Signature Events. The U.S. Women's Open had some setup issues at Erin Hills after near-six hour rounds became the norm all week long. Maja Stark won her first major championship, another first-time winner at the U.S. Women's Open. The two then finish up the recap portion of the show with notes from the Austrian Open and a playoff edition of Champions Tour Minute before previewing "Golf's Longest Day" on Monday, even though the name may no longer accurately describe the event.

Andy and Brendan look at this week's NCAA championships and wonder how the college game could raise its profile among golf fans. They compare top players, some of whom have PGA Tour cards already, and top-ranked schools to the top prospects and teams in college football and basketball that become household names during their respective seasons. After the lengthy college golf discussion, the two preview yet another Signature Event as the PGA Tour heads to the Memorial at Jack's Place (proper noun). Rory McIlroy will not be in Columbus, instead choosing to play in next week's Canadian Open in his quest to win every national open possible. One-and-done picks are made with Brendan steering into a bit after Andy boxes him into it. The U.S. Women's Open is at Erin Hills this week, leading to a debate about where the course stands in terms of major venues in the professional game. Andy and Brendan run through some notable groups for the first two rounds and share some excitement for on-location coverage from The Mixed Bag. The Champions Tour treks to Iowa and PJ has some questions about the Schwab Cup standings following the second senior major. Talk Birdie To Me

Massive show, we start by discussing the US Women's Open this week at Erin Hills, Nick and Mark talk through the Aussies and Kiwis, and the international stars. Nick's tip - on this course is to keep an eye on the 'power players', and Mark says watch out for Steph Kyriacou who is in great form. Mark loves the fact that the prize money is $12 million. Predictably, Mark finds a way to pump up his man-crush on Sepp Straka. And then. The story Mark has been chasing for a few days now. Mark tells Nick and Dan that he has reliable information that LIV is looking to buy the DP World Tour. Nick and Mark discuss what it means, if it is a good thing or not, and how it may happen. Mark calls it 'the best possible outcome'. Would be big. Really big.In Australia this week - today at the time this pod is posted - Rugby League State of Origin is on which is, for overseas wolfpackers who may not be aware, the pinnacle of Rugby League in Australia, and the world. Nick and Mark put a golfing twist on it and discuss the best Australian golfers by their 'State of Origin'. Who did they miss? Who did they over or under rate? Let us know.Mark saw a video this week about imperfect greens and discusses. We discuss the end of The Colonial at the weekend, Nick and Mark loved it and they talk about Ben Griffin, Matti Schmid, and Karl Vilips. After the turn, we hear about Nicks new website with some excellent golf videos, tips and ideas for your game. There is a (very reasonably priced) subscription fee, but the content is excellent and it's worth checking out. Video and website link here. Thanks to Southern Golf Club, Marks Top 5 is 'courses that were built to be the toughest, but the pro's ripped them apart'.Voicemail from Ric in Perth with a question for Nick O'Who, leading to a business idea from Mark....he needs the profits to fund his relentless investment with Betr on Sepp Straka. PING globals from Nick, including one result which gets mentioned only as Nick finds the players name amusing. Feedback, and we decide to do a bonus episode on 'mean tweets'. Want to whack us? Message us, or put it on socials with hashtag #meantweets. Bonus ep on the way. More feedback on bunkers, and lots on last weeks chat about whether LIV is the best place to prepare for a major or not. Some blunt comments from wolfpackers.Great masterclass from Nick on playing the percentages and managing risk. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best.
