It was a busy week in golf to end May and kick off June. Scottie Scheffler did his thing as expected once he was lurking on the leaderboard and pulled away on the weekend to go back-to-back at Jack's place, Muirfield Village. The world number 1 looks primed and ready for Oakmont and the upcoming U.S. Open. Speaking of U.S. Opens, the women went to Erin Hills in Wisconsin and faced some fiery green conditions and incredibly slow play for their championship. June 2nd is the longest day in golf as it is sectional qualifying around the country for the U.S. Open. We will dive into some of the great stories and also see who will not be heading to Oakmont for this years U.S. Open. Another week, another Sunday episode reacting to a Scottie Scheffler win on the PGA Tour. Andy and Brendan recap Sheriff Scottie's 16th career victory after he defeated Ben Griffin by four shots at The Memorial. Brendan reads through some stats to help put Scottie's three-year run in some historical context before Andy runs through Scheffler's 2017 Walker Cup teammates to show how much his game has improved in eight years. The two are downright giddy that Ian Baker-Finch dropped a "Sheriff" on the broadcast on Sunday which was promptly added to the soundboard. Andy and Brendan also tie up some loose ends on The Memorial by chatting about strong weeks from Ben Griffin and Sepp Straka. Speaking of good weeks, Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler made the most of their sponsor exemptions and Andy is not happy about these free invites into Signature Events. The U.S. Women's Open had some setup issues at Erin Hills after near-six hour rounds became the norm all week long. Maja Stark won her first major championship, another first-time winner at the U.S. Women's Open. Brendan and Andy also discuss Lexi Thompson's stance that she did not "retire" after her sendoff last season. The two then finish up the recap portion of the show with notes from the Austrian Open and a playoff edition of Champions Tour Minute before previewing "Golf's Longest Day" on Monday, even though the name may no longer accurately describe the event.

This episode starts with a simple question: why isn't college golf more popular? Andy and Brendan look at this week's NCAA championships and wonder how the college game could raise its profile among golf fans. They compare top players, some of whom have PGA Tour cards already, and top-ranked schools to the top prospects and teams in college football and basketball that become household names during their respective seasons. After the lengthy college golf discussion, the two preview yet another Signature Event as the PGA Tour heads to the Memorial at Jack's Place (proper noun). Rory McIlroy will not be in Columbus, instead choosing to play in next week's Canadian Open in his quest to win every national open possible. One-and-done picks are made with Brendan steering into a bit after Andy boxes him into it. The U.S. Women's Open is at Erin Hills this week, leading to a debate about where the course stands in terms of major venues in the professional game. Andy and Brendan run through some notable groups for the first two rounds and share some excitement for on-location coverage from The Mixed Bag. The Champions Tour treks to Iowa and PJ has some questions about the Schwab Cup standings following the second senior major. Andy and Brendan wrap things up with some LIV contract news as the first wave of players are up for renewal.

It was a busy week in the golf world this week and it began with Ben Griffin getting his first solo PGA Tour win at the Colonial Country Club. It is major week in women's golf as the best players in the world head to Wisconsin and Erin Hills for the U.S. Open. Mike and Tim have played Erin Hills and give a little insight into the golf course. Marc Dull stamped his name into USGA four-ball lore last week when he won a match at the amateur four-ball championship by himself. In Part 2 of Episode 40, I'm joined by Wisconsin Golf Hall of Famer and Golf Writers Association of America member, Gary D'Amato, along with multiple-time Tour winner Guy Boros, son of World Golf Hall of Famer Julius Boros. Gary, a member of the Golf Writers Association of America for over 40 years, has covered every Masters since 1993 and was inducted into the Wisconsin Golf Hall of Fame in 2017. While Whistling Straits and Erin Hills are well-known, Gary highlights several other hidden gem courses in Wisconsin, a state that often flies under the radar as a golf destination. He also shares stories of playing alongside some of Wisconsin's greatest golfers, including Steve Stricker, Andy North, Jerry Kelly, and Sherri Steinhauer. Additionally, Gary recounts one of his favorite Masters moments—following Jack Nicklaus as he nearly captured his seventh Green Jacket in 1998—and discusses the book he co-wrote with Packers legend Chester Marcol on the history of the Packers-Bears rivalry. Guy Boros grew up traveling on Tour with his father, Julius, a three-time major champion who won the 1952 and 1963 U.S. Opens and the 1968 PGA Championship. Julius held the record as the oldest major champion, winning the 1968 PGA at 48 years old, until Phil Mickelson surpassed him a few years ago at nearly 51. Guy also found significant success on Tour, particularly in Canada, where he won the Canadian Order of Merit in 1991. His first PGA Tour victory came at the 1996 Greater Vancouver Classic, which he won by a stroke over Lee Janzen. In our conversation, Guy reflects on how his game seemed to elevate whenever he crossed the border, the experience of growing up around the great players of the 60s and 70s while traveling with his father, and his victory at the Vancouver Classic. He also shares insights from playing in this year's U.S. Senior Open at Newport Country Club and the Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie.

GRQOTW 1010: Barney the B Grade golfer hits his approach shot into a green side bunker on the short 15th hole of the very prestigious golf club at Wombat Hills. The ball is in the middle of a large collection of temporary water in the middle of the bunker. As the only relief area in the bunker would put the ball in a very difficult position on a slope, Barney decides to take BOL relief outside of the bunker. After making this decision, Barney walks into the bunker to retrieve his ball. In doing so, he creates footprints. Barney retrieves a rake and smooths the footprints, and then correctly drops his ball outside the bunker…but instead of using BOL relief, he has changed his mind and has now taken S&D relief, from a distance fairly close to where BOL relief would have put him. Before playing his shot, Barney notices that the raked footprints are in his line of play for the short shot over the bunker to the hole that was a mere 6 feet onto the front of the green. After playing his shot, how many total penalty strokes has Barney incurred? GOLFRULES QUESTIONS MERCHANDISE Get yourself a Roo&Coo polo: https://golfrulesquestions.myspreadshop.com/ . In this bonus episode, Ana and Eric greet you from West Bend with several friends: Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann, West Bend Mayor Joel Ongert, and Kewaskum Village President Fuzz Martin. Between all five, the topics run the gamut to every corner of Washington County and expand on the recent Discover Wisconsin episode on Washington County, which was called "Love Your Neighbor." All corners of Washington County get some love from the standpoint of visitors, residents, and businesses. West Bend, the county seat, has a charming and vibrant downtown with Main Street freshly repaved, re-scaped, and ready for great shopping, dining, and entertainment with the Historic Bend Theater welcoming regional and national acts in its 1920s-era-but-updated venue. Across the Milwaukee River you can take in some amazing art at the MOWA - Museum of Wisconsin Art and places like The Volunteer Center and The Hub, its associated coffee shop, were showcased in the recent Discover Wisconsin episode. West Bend also has Riverside Brewing, historic buildings, the Eisenbahn Trail for biking and hiking, and Regner Park, which hosts everything from summer concerts to the beautiful holiday lights in winter. Kewaskum is a prime example of Washington County's beautiful villages, and Village Prez Fuzz Martin dives into activities to enjoy from hunting for antiques to hitting the slopes and Sunburst Ski Hill, which also boasts the largest tubing park in the world with nearly 50 lanes! Nearby in Slinger, Little Switzerland is another popular area for skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. Since Washington County straddles the Kettle Moraine region, the topography is beautiful for any activity, and places like the Pike Lake Unit of Kettle Moraine State Forest next to Hartford are ideal for enjoying it to the fullest. You can stop at Aspen Sky Winery in Slinger after (or, heck, before) to imbibe if that would complement your day. Perched atop the highest point in southeastern Wisconsin, Holy Hill Basilica and National Shrine draws visitors from around the world. Whether for religious pilgrimage, to marvel and its beautiful architecture, take in the views, or find treasures at the Holy Hill Art Fair, Holy Hill is an incredible place to visit. You can get beautiful views of Holy Hill from the golf course, too. Erin Hills is a nationally renown course in the Town of Erin; home to the 2017 U.S. Open, the course follows the natural landscape and offers views of Holy Hill. Kettle Hills is another highly-rated golf course on the other side of Holy Hill. Washington County Golf Course outside Hartford ranks among the top 50 municipal courses in the United States, while other options include Hon-E-Kor in Kewaskum, Scenic View in Slinger, and several in West Bend.Hartford, on the western edge of Washington County, offers up its own fun downtown which includes the Wisconsin Automotive Museum, a car-themed wonderful ice cream shop called Scoop de Ville, The Mineshaft restaurant which served as Wisconsin's largest for a long time, plus tons of great shops of all kinds. The city's architecture features classic buildings, some crowned with pagodas. Germantown is the largest village in the county, literally across the street from Milwaukee on the southeast. The village has historic sites like Dheinsville and Freistadt that bring you back to 19th century settlements and some newer breweries and wineries. They include Old Germantown, a new brewery in a farmstead that serves up classic craft brews and wood-fired pizzas, 1840 Brewing, which was featured in the show, and Apple Works Winery, a winery that has grown out of an orchard at Behnke Estates. Germantown is a growing bedroom community but they still have plenty of farms, too. You can explore other farms nearby that offer family fun, including Basse's Taste of Country in Colgate and Peck & Bushel Fruit Company in Colgate. This is why we say Washington County has surprises around every corner.
