Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre (Japanese: 伊藤潤二『マニアック』, Hepburn: Itō Junji Maniakku) is a Japanese original net animation series produced by Studio Deen and directed by Shinobu Tagashira. It adapts various stories from Junji Ito, including The Hanging Balloons, Sōichi, and Tomie. It was released on Netflix in January 2023.

For the One Hundredth (!!!!) episode of Unlimited Rail Works, we watched Studio Deen's 2005 episodic horror series Hell Girl, and learned to appreciate grudges, bits, and mysterious talking parrots. Later, Maverick went out to go see the latest One Piece movie in IMAX, and Rose watched the hot new prestige Kamen Rider Black Sun. Elvie continues to learn all about the taming of beasts, John loves Mob Psycho Season 3, and everyone loves Bocchi. The opening song to this episode is "Sakasama no Chō" by SNoW, while the ending theme is "Karinui" by Mamiko Noto. Stepping back out of shonen and also filler this week we watched Initial D: Third Stage! The well known racing anime from the early 2000s. With a great sound track and some questionable animation we wanted to step out of our comfort zone. Step into gear and hit that play button!   Synopsis Takumi Fujiwara is a skilled street racer, but he suffers a crushing loss against the team Emperor's leader Kyoichi Sudou due to his AE86 experiencing an engine failure. Doubting his abilities, the recent high school graduate is then approached by the Akagi RedSuns' team leader Ryousuke Takahashi, who proposes the formation of a professional street racing team. Although it would be the ideal way to improve as a street racer, Takumi remains undecided.   Show Info The movie aired in 2001 and is the first movie of the series. Season 1 of the 2016 anime was produced by Studio Deen and directed by Shinichi Omata. Showa is a theatrical period piece incorporating slice-of-life, supernatural, and whimsical elements. The show was given an “A” score by the Anime News Network, where it was praised for its “strong underlying narrative to gorgeous direction and top-tier performances”.

R.O.D the TV is a 26-episode anime television series, animated by J.C.Staff and Studio Deen and produced by Aniplex, directed by Koji Masunari and scripted by Hideyuki Kurata, about the adventures of three paper-manipulating sisters, Michelle, Maggie and Anita, who become the bodyguards of Nenene Sumiregawa, a famous Japanese writer. Featuring music by Taku Iwasaki, the series is a sequel to the Read or Die OVA. The series begins in 2006, five years after the "I-Jin" incident detailed in the Read or Die OVA. Yomiko Readman (a.k.a. "The Paper", agent of British Library Task Force) has supposedly gone missing, and Nenene Sumiregawa, her former student and best friend, is still in Tokyo after her parents moved to the United States. Nenene has not written a book since Yomiko disappeared, as she has become lonely and frustrated that her sensei has never read her last book, and she feels she can't write again until she hears Yomiko's reaction to the book, so Nenene often disappears for long periods of time searching for Yomiko, and has been periodically doing so ever since her "disappearance". Today on Dead Cells we are going to talk about the horror anime “Hell Girl”. A good, though sleepy anthology that deals with revenge and the underworld. This is one of the first anime I watched when I first discovered Crunchyroll streaming free the last time I was in college. It comes from Studio Deen who have brought us Pupa, Is This A Zombie?, and other harem, crime, romance and slice-of-life animes. Let me know if there is anything you think I should be watching!
