Send us a textWhere Are You, Bronte? celebrates its book birthday this week -- and this book should come with complementary tissues for the adults reading it! Beloved illustrator Barbara McClintock took on the herculean task of illustrating Tomie de Paola's final manuscript. The result is a beautiful collaboration that pays tribute to his style while exploring the universal themes of love, loss, and memory. In the end, our stories and the connections we build with others outlive us and leave a lasting legacy. With a focus on love, loss, and moving forward, Barbara discusses the challenges of honoring Tomie's distinctive style while infusing her own creativity and vision. We also chat about the journey from childhood sketches and wanting to be a cat to becoming a renowned illustrator. Barbara talks about mentorship from Maurice Sendak and the power of self-education through libraries. 21 marca, a więc w Światowy Dzień Poezji, premierę miała nowa książka poetycka Macieja Roberta - poety, eseisty, krytyka literackiego. W tomie „mniejsza o ludzi”, opublikowanym przez Wydawnictwo Warstwy, autor pokusił się o refleksję nad naszą cywilizacją, zadaje pytania o początek, jednocześnie wypatrując nieuchronnego końca. Dziś zapraszamy was do wysłuchania rozmowy z okazji premiery książki, którą poprowadził literaturoznawca Paweł Mackiewicz. Było oczywiście sporo o nowym tomie (i sporo czytania wierszy z niego), ale rozmowa dotykała niemal całej twórczości Roberta, w tym wydanej dwa lata temu książki „śnieg”, która dla autora jest szczególnie ważna. Zapraszamy do słuchania!

MOVIE DISCUSSION: Kathryn joins Melvin in discussing an early Junji Ito live-action adaption, Uzumaki! Although the film went into production before the manga had reached its completion, there's still a lot of exciting material to cover in this truly wacky film; and not just because of the spirals! Topics:(PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 38-minutes of Kathryn and Melvin competing in a Movie/Entertainment Trivia game, finally figuring out which one of the two knows more about everything Movies and Entertainment! (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)Kathryn and Melvin are huge fans of Junji Ito, both of which having read his manga for close to 10 years. The two talk about what it is about his work that captures their attention. In introducing Uzumaki, the two can't avoid it: They have to talk about the editing first. The setting feels fresh and "lived in", and even the various characters within the story feel as though they've known each other for a long time.Melvin wonders about the correlation between films about social issues, or that have social awareness, and the size of the community within the fiction (or, the reality they're based on). Kathryn shares her thoughts. There's one scene in Uzumaki that is so hauntingly patient that it really affected Melvin. He describes the scene, and the two explore it together.Discussing how Kirie and Shuichi are roughly the same characters between both the manga and the movie, but how what they represent in the story in relation to the spirals is different.Recommendations:The Devil's Candy (2016) (Movie)The Spiral (Original Title: Rasen) (1998) (Movie)MAILBAG: Send questions with your First Name and we'll answer them in future episodes! Yay, I get to be a student again! Excited to bring you all the LAST EPISODE of Season 6! To close things off this season, I bring on NYC-based dominatrix, Mx Tomie, onto the show this week to teach us a little thing or two about chastity. Having gone some new chastity subs and harbouring my own curiosity, I invited Tomie to give us a breakdown on what chastity is, why it might appeal to some folks, and get real nerdy on the details around equipment. Since most of Tomie's clients are cis-het men, we speak primarily on cages designed for penises, the different types of material used on them, comfortability, and general hygiene on how to clean them. Of course, no fetish or kink topic can go on without discussing potential harm and general safety guidelines on how to practice chastity play safely with your clients. We also touch on remote chastity play and her thoughts on that as well as the many questions that Tomie's fans have written in. A thoroughly in-depth episode that barely just skims the surface on the topic of chastity but hopefully provides a great introductory lesson on this fun kink. Mark your calendars: Season 7 drops on Sunday, May 18th, 2024 @ midnight PST. I miss my friend Tomie dePaola. In celebration of the US Postal Service issuing a Strega Nona stamp in his honor, I wanted to share this interview that I conducted with Tomie in the early 20-teens. Tomie's friendship is actually intertwined with the love story between me and Gina. When we started dating in 2006, she had her childhood copy of STREGA NONA with her in her Boston apartment. That book meant the world to her. About a month after dating Gina, I met Tomie at a conference. We were both out at the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators annual out in Los Angeles. Tomie and I became fast friends, and I bought the big Art of Tomie book and had it signed to both Gina and me. That was a big step -- a hardcover book signed to the both of us? But by then, I knew. And when Gina saw that i had the book signed to the both of us, well...she knew I knew.Over the years, Gina and I cherished our time with Tomie. He even dedicated a Strega Nona book to us! And it was a Christmas book as well, a holiday that both Tomie and Gina went over the top for.I hope that you enjoy this trip down memory lane. How I wish I could see his sparkle once again, but man do I feel so lucky to have this recording featuring his infectious laugh. So on this special on-between episode of Origin Stories, let's get to know Tomie DePaloa's origin story!
