Why do Catholics often blame Luther for the reformation rather than Pope Leo X? What is the significance of the number 40 in Sacred Scripture? I notice it comes up a lot, particularly referring to a passage of 40 days. When it comes to reading from the writings of Catholic authors who wrote about Catholicism and Church doctrine, but they later apostatized (like Tertullian), should we read or avoid reading their work? I returned to the Church, but now my fellow parishioners feel way more closed off than the ones from my older church. It seems even hard to get a smile out of people. It almost feels like I'm unwelcomed. I also miss an excellent bible study I had at my old church and I'm having trouble finding any Catholic Bible study or women's retreat. I love reading and digging into scripture and feel like this would solve many things. Any idea on where I can start looking? Can a lay person perform the exposition of the Eucharist for Adoration? Father Anthony Cekada once again returns to Trad Controversies to dispel the myths and legends surrounding Archbishop Thuc. What comes to light is the history and picture of a man quite different from the one presented by the Society of Pius V. Incorporated with the historical discussion and flowing from that, Father reviews the principles of Canon Law and Sacramental Theology which govern the decisions one can conclude in regards to the consecrations done by Archbishop Thuc in the 1980s. Common objections presented by the SSPV are specifically reviewed and analyzed to provide listeners the knowledge enabling them not to fall into the Jansenistic scruples of the SSPV. It is very sad that such a controversy still plagues the Traditional Catholics of our day, and it is sincerely hoped, that with the information presented, hatchets of the past can be buried. With the light being shone on the truth, perhaps families will cease to be ripped apart, young people thwarted in the pursuits of their vocations, and peace will be restored. Over the past 25+ years, the Society of Pius V has maintained the same position of refusing the sacraments to Catholics who have received sacraments from clergy either from or associated with the line of traditional bishops stemming from Archbishop Thuc. While holding a position over such a period of time is commendable if correct, a false position is not proven true by the length of time held nor is the holding of is so long anything but a tragedy. Such is the case of the SSPV's policy of refusing sacraments to good Catholics. Father Cekada joins us as we examine the foundation of the SSPV's argument and prove it has no basis in traditional Catholic principles or practices. Digging into the topic, Father Cekada will guide the listener through the massive smoke and mirrors to the root of the SSPV's dispute. Much of what we will cover has never been responded to by the SSPV as they have nothing to respond with, and we sincerely hope this episode will clarify the issue for the listener who can with confidence see the SSPV's arguments for what they are, a mirage. Our hope is that through this episode good Catholics on both sides of this issue will come to understand based upon true Catholic principles, and this unnecessary controversy, a controversy which has destroyed homes, families, potential marriages, and scandalized both traditional Catholics and even Novus Ordo adherents will end once and for all. Long has the plea gone out to the SSPV to reexamine a position which was created out of malice in the beginning. Let us hope and pray that as more of this information permeates into their group and their priests and laity see the truth, they will renounce their former position and traditional Catholics of these various groups can unite for the Glory of God and the restoration of His Church. How to practice meekness when gravely wronged; extremely difficult; our Lord — forgive if you want to be forgiven; what others do to us vs. what we have done to our Lord; being wronged is a great opportunity; not against the law of Christ to seek redress; against the law of Christ to be moved by malice; is there something to gain by confrontation?; victory over ourselves for the sake of Christ is an amazing gain; opening the floodgates of God's forgiveness and mercy by being merciful. Great emotions of sorrow and joy when praying the Rosary — is this normal?; extreme emotions not necessarily a sign of holiness; extreme emotions not wrong if it does not draw attention to the person; preachers of old moved people to tears or great joy; be careful of mistaking emotions for the essence of prayer — raising the mind and heart to God. The SSPX and similar groups are walking into a trap. After the Holy Father disbands the seminaries of the diocesan TLM groups, there will be an exodus to groups like the SSPX and SSPV as the institutional Catholic Church slides into further paganism. At a certain point, the Pope will officially declare those groups in schism and excommunicate them, cutting them off from the font of Grace that flows from the Apostolic See. The remaining faithful who are trapped in the choice between Schism and Apostasy will flee the Church to the Orthodox Churches or leave the Faith altogether. What this means for the world has already been described in the book of the Apocalypse of Saint John the Beloved. On the first show in a new miniseries of Trad Controversies, His Excellency Bishop Daniel Dolan and Father Anthony Cekada join us to discuss SSPV's policy of forbidding parishioners to assist at the Masses of certain other traditional Catholic groups and clergy, and refusing sacraments to those who do. Father Clarence Kelly initiated this policy in 1989. In the more than twenty-five years that have passed since then, most traditional Catholics have the impression that the controversy originated in a dispute over the validity of sacraments conferred by Abp. Pierre-Martin Ngo-din-Thuc, or over associations with the CMRI (Congregation of Mary Immaculate) of Spokane, Washington. Most listeners will find it interesting to learn that what actually sparked the dispute and led to the SSPV policy to refuse sacraments had nothing whatsoever to do with either Abp. Thuc OR CMRI. These issues were tacked on later, well after Fr. Kelly first instituted his policy. Our purpose is not to attack anyone’s character, but only to help listeners — especially younger listeners – to understand why SSPV has retained its bitter and harsh position over the years in opposition to canon law, sound theology and the facts. We discuss the weaknesses of individuals only in order to provide the objective information necessary to form a complete picture of how SSPV’s disastrous policies really originated. The purpose of this series is to promote true charity among the small remnant of faithful Catholics, a charity that Our Lord Himself desires. We hope that this show, and the others that will follow, will help end, once and for all, a controversy which has affected, and in some cases destroyed, the peace and charity of so many families, homes and communities.
