Illinois Comptroller, Susana Mendoza, has suspended state payments to Dolton and threatened fines due to the village's failure to submit required financial reports. These reports include annual financial statements and audits, which have not been filed since 2021. The Comptroller's actions are a response to Dolton's ongoing non-compliance with state law, further complicated by a recent report from former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot. The report highlighted the village's financial mismanagement under Mayor Tiffany Henyard's administration. Additionally, the situation is further complicated by internal conflicts within Dolton's administration. The village's mayor, Tiffany Henyard, and the recently terminated Assistant Chief of Police, Lewis Lacy, have been involved in controversial actions, including a mandatory meeting for police officers that has been called into question for its legality. With financial penalties looming and significant administrative turmoil, Dolton faces a critical period where state intervention and potential legal actions could significantly impact the village's future.

It was a sunday in July 2017. A bike ride through a Chicago neighborhood. A pick-up truck speeds by and slams into several other vehicles. The aftermath recorded on a smart-phone. The person capturing the moment on video and audio was Susana Mendoza -- the current comptroller for state of Illinois. She was elected state comptroller back in December of 2016. She's full of energy and has a passion for public service...but we're not talking politics in this portion of her interview. No it's about an encounter she had with a well known Chicago tough guy. At the time she had NO idea who she was dealing with. The encounter was with a guy name John Boyle. His nickname among Chicago journalists is "John Quarters Boyle." Now Susana Mendoza and title for this story "Say Cheeze."
