We begin our exploration of the Delta Quadrant with Star Trek: Voyager issues 1-3! Journey with us as we dive into some Talaxian-related drama!
From the Main Stage of Trek Long Island 2 #treklongisland we are overjoyed to share our interview with Ethan Phillips, Neelix from Voyager and Lolita Fatjo producer of #StarTrekFirstContact and #StarTrekVoyager as well as the upcoming #documentary! Neelix was a primarily Talaxian (also one-eighth Mylean) hybrid who lived in the 24th century. He joined the USS Voyager when it was pulled into the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker's array in 2371. While Voyager made a seven-year journey through the Delta Quadrant, he served as the ship's chef, morale officer, trade negotiator, "ambassador to the Delta Quadrant" and navigator, in addition to forming close personal friendships with many crew members and becoming a valuable member of the stranded Starfleet crew. Commander Chakotay, who was in charge of personnel on the ship, called him "Without a doubt ... the most versatile member of our crew". #StarTrekVoyager #startrekprodigy #startrekfistcontact #startrek #space #voyager #starfleet #documentary #film #tuvix
fWotD Episode 2662: Kes (Star Trek) Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Sunday, 18 August 2024 is Kes (Star Trek).Kes is a fictional character played by Jennifer Lien on the American science fiction television show Star Trek: Voyager. The series follows the crew of the starship USS Voyager, stranded far from home and struggling to get back to Earth. Kes joins the crew in the pilot episode "Caretaker", opening an aeroponics garden and working as the medical assistant to the artificial intelligence known as the Doctor. She is a member of a telepathic alien species known as the Ocampa who have latent psychic abilities and a life span of only nine years. Her storylines focus on encouraging the Doctor to develop his humanity and dealing with her Talaxian boyfriend Neelix's jealousy. She also seeks to expand upon her mental capabilities, leaving in the fourth season after her powers threaten to destroy the ship. She reappears in a season six episode and features in Star Trek: Voyager novels and short stories. Voyager's creators Rick Berman, Michael Piller, and Jeri Taylor designed Kes to be a rapidly-aging character who would provide audiences with a different perspective on time. Although Kes is portrayed as fragile and innocent, she is also shown as having hidden strength and maturity. Voyager's producers reluctantly fired Lien after her personal issues affected her reliability on set. At the time, this was not openly discussed and her departure was attributed to other reasons; these ranged from Lien voluntarily leaving to pursue other roles to her being removed to make room for Jeri Ryan's introduction as Seven of Nine.Kes was a fan favorite character while Voyager was airing, although critics reacted more negatively, finding her boring and without a clear purpose. Lien was praised for her performance, which was highlighted in reviews of individual episodes. Kes's age was the subject of critical discussion, questioning if she was too young to be dating Neelix. Lien's removal from Voyager received mixed reviews from critics; some preferred the addition of Seven of Nine while others were disappointed by this casting change. Reviewers and fans disliked her return in the season six episode "Fury", which some media outlets called one of the worst moments in the Star Trek franchise. Academics have analyzed Kes's representation of femininity, her relationship with Captain Kathryn Janeway, and her mental abilities. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:37 UTC on Sunday, 18 August 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Kes (Star Trek) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Stephen.

We water our concrete cubes and wait. In the end, we fall into the nothingness, just like everyone else. Block my eggs. I demanded to write the notes this week because I wanted to write about my super specific niche interest, but then I realized I am too basic to have any truly niche interests. Oh, so you like Taylor Swift. You have cats. You read books. Good for you. I would have picked one of the Bioware games I'm obsessed with, but I have nowhere near enough time or space for that. So I'm just going to talk about the last book I read and really loved, which is also an incredibly basic choice: Book Lovers by Emily Henry. As of this current moment in time, it is number eight on the New York Times Bestseller List and has been there for 13 weeks. Not to brag but I've actually been an Emily Henry fan ever since her first YA novel, which she sent me an arc of in 2015 before it even came out. Yeah, that's right. I KNOW Emily Henry. Kind of. We were Twitter mutuals when she was still using it, meeting when we both got mildly harassed by the same bizarre troll account after tweeting about the just released trailer for The Giver. We used to talk about Friday Night Lights and reality TV and while it was a very casual acquaintance, it DOES continue today on Instagram. Yes, I am namedropping, but I love her, she is amazing, and it's an honor to not have been unfollowed. Anyway, I just have to say that the three adult romance books she's written are truly fantastic. Her stories are so funny and sexy and romantic and her characters feel like people that actually exist, people I could be friends with. Her plots defy the formulas so many popular romance novels stick to. Book Lovers is the best one. The specific reasons why I think this are mostly too personal to go into. Let's just say the protagonist is the unpickable career girl who doesn't want kids, and she gets a happy ending with an Oscar Isaac lookalike (a casting choice Emily has confirmed as accurate, by the way) who doesn't try to change her. When I read the last chapter, I just put it down and cried, because I felt so understood. And that is the thing I am most hoping to find before the lights go out. Executive meddling means we've come to the very sudden end of "Voyager" season one! First up, we learn more about Neelix and his people when the designer of a super-weapon that devastated a Talaxian moon drops by for a visit in "Jetrel". After that, get the cheese to sickbay and brace yourself for a crappier version of TNG's "Lower Decks" in "Learning Curve". Also this week: rappin' "Trek", the Eddington sniff, and season 1 tops and bottoms! Everybody needs stuff put back this week on "Voyager"! First up, Chakotay's very being is shoved out of his body by weird aliens that want to eat everyone's neural energy in "Cathexis". After that, B'Elanna's been split into human and Klingon forms and they DO NOT get on in "Faces"! Also this week: we'll always blame Paris, a drowned-rat Talaxian, and title sequences! TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan ViacomCBS' Plans For 2021...and BEYOND This week, ViacomCBS presented their Quarter 3 earnings call to the media. Exciting, right? The call might not have sparked as intense a debate as new chairs on the Cerritos, but there was enough information shared to get us excited. It's Earning's-Call-Time According to an article on “The Verge” outlining the November 6th call, ViacomCBS' plan is to streamline its streaming platforms - with a focus on Paramount+ and Pluto TV - continue to push its original content, and license some of its many properties to the competition. We talked about this plan a bit in episode 472 of Priority One, so trek it out if you need a refresher! The long-and-short of it - ViacomCBS believes they have enough content to draw in subscribers, retain them - and can still viably license out the rest! Star Trek was referred to several times throughout the call. Most notably, ViacomCBS President and CEO Bob Bakish had praise for the franchise, saying ”Star Trek, [...] [is] arguably the original proof of concept for CBS All Access, there are now multiple variance of it on All Access, it works well for us.” Image Linked From The Verge Kurtzman, Paradise, del Barrio, and Alexander Talk the Importance of Representation Hey you. Yeah you. Stop right there! If you haven't seen Star Trek: Discovery season 3,episode 4 - “Forget Me Not" - skip this story! You'll get your Trek nuggets covered in sauce. SPOILER ALERT Okay, for those still here, this week's episode of Star Trek: Discovery introduced us to Ian Alexander's ‘Gray'. We'll certainly talk more about Adira and Gray in this week's “On Screen”, but in the context of this story it's important to note that Gray's appearance was Star Trek's first unquestioned inclusion of a trans character. In honor of the historic event, Alex Kurtzman, Michelle Paradise, Ian Alexander, and Adira actor Blu del Barrio spoke with Variety about LGBTQ representation in Star Trek. Discovery showrunner Michelle Paradise talked about the discussion to introduce a non-binary and trans character to the series, saying ”We really wanted to look around and see what sorts of new stories we could tell. ‘Star Trek' has always represented a myriad of voices. Who are the voices that we are not hearing from? Which are the characters that we are not seeing? Right now, what's an important voice that we want to hear through these characters?” Image courtesy of Variety LGBTQ Inclusion We discussed Blu del Barrio's introduction last week - so we don't want to rehash that conversation - though del Barrio did reiterate their comfort on set during the interview. Ian Alexander echoed those feelings, recounting a story in which the Discovery team had a binder ready for his use before a request was made. Though Alexander notes that ”any trans storyline should have a trans writer” he was comfortable with the way his story unfolded in season 4. ”I haven't had any concerns about Gray's character yet, because it's just been such a collaborative process from the very beginning. I really do trust Michelle, that she's putting in the work of being a good trans ally and checking in with me, and also making sure to always include Gray in the storyline in a way that's not alienating or othering them. They want to have trans characters existing in this universe and to not have to struggle or to suffer. They're just simply existing.” Behind the Scenes Shot Via Variety AOC on Tuvix? The Captain herself - Kate Mulgrew - had a few things to say about the matter. ”Willing to hear the crew's thoughts, as always. Yes--it's--true!” [beepadeepaabeepaboop] The year 2020 is mercifully drawing to a close, which inevitably means one thing: the holidays are upon us. And that, in turn, inevitably means two things: family gatherings and holiday sales. But if the former fills you with dread, PC captains, Cryptic has your back with the latter. From now through December 10th, Lifetime subscriptions for Star Trek Online are on sale for US$199.99--a significant 33% discount. A hold-over from the pre-F2P era, purchasing a Lifetime subscription unlocks over a dozen enhancements and services for the game. Some appeal to very specific parts of the player base, like the playable Talaxian and Liberated Borg character races. However automatically refining 8000 dilithium/day on all characters, and 500 free Zen/month, are benefits everyone can get behind. Boosting Ambition By Thomas Reynolds Discovery season 3 is bringing the Crossfield-class crew to the strange new worlds of future year 3188. But being stuck in the less-future year of 2411 doesn't mean you have to miss out on the action. Captains will also be able to launch their Discovery-era characters far into the future with the Legendary Discovery Captain Bundle. This bundle is available on PC November 12th (day of recording), and sometime before 2021 on console. Like this summer's Legendary Romulan Captain Bundle, the new bundle lets you advance one Discovery-faction character to level 65. In fact, other than your hologram boffs representing Discovery show characters, the new bundle's boost content is identical to the last… the list is long… but here some of our favorites: 1,000,000 Energy Credits 1,000,000 Expertise 250,000 Reputation Dilithium Vouchers A set of five Bridge Officer Specializations (one for each type) 5 Enhanced Universal Tech Upgrades 36 inventory slots 12 account bank slots 6 Bridge Officer Slots 2 starship slots Very Rare Mk XIV ground and space equipment for a complete captain build 6 Commander-rank Very Rare Discovery Photonic Bridge Officers, with all basic abilities trained and Very Rare Mk XIV ground sets As a Legendary bundle, it also includes the new Legendary Walker Light Battlecruiser for all Federation-aligned characters on your account. We'll get to it a moment, but great discoveries come with great costs and this one's no exception. The Legendary Discovery Captain Bundle will hit you for an eye-watering 12,000 Zen, or 6,000 at release. It's a major investment for one toon, ship notwithstanding–you'd better plan to get a lot of mileage out of them. Priority One Podcast asked our social media followers what they thought about the bundle, and oh did they have opinions: Via Star Trek Online Feedback @brianetters: “i'll think about it when they give us the lvl 65 token separately” @selig_joshua: “I will try to be civil, but seriously, do the Devs not realise that we are in a pandemic, that the world economy has in effect tanked and a lot of people can barely hold it together mentally or fearful for their jobs and then they charge this are they on a different planet?” @zeuslegion: “I'd buy the more expensive ships if they included a ‘LaForge Modular Engineering Systems' mechanic that let me live out the dream of getting 96% engine efficiency by mixing, matching, and tweaking 9 to 12 components on a slotted grid.” Joye McCaster on Facebook: “Hate it, would buy the ship at a normal c-store price or even for 5$ extra because of the account skill. But the bundle is just way too overpriced. I don't see a single thing in it that gives that kind of value. If you have bought any of the prior packs that had anything related to the walker class you will already have the skins, or the t4 ship which really cheapens their value and purpose of buying them.” Walk(er) It Back Now, Y'all By Shane Hoover Okay Captains, let's reign in the hyperventilating by taking a closer look at that new Legendary Walker Light Battlecruiser. We'll cut straight to the important question here and ask “How does this thing compare with the T6 Walker we've already got?” The biggest differences players will care about are the changes to the Bridge Officer Stations. Rather than the T6 Walker's Ensign Engineering/Intel station, the Legendary Walker sports a nice Commander Engineering/Command station. So that Rank 3 Concentrate Firepower ability is tempting. It also drops a Science station to Lieutenant, while raising an Ensign Engineering station to Lieutenant. The Legendary ship's console layout bumps up Tactical and Science slots while dropping two Engineering slots. Like all Legendary ships, the Walker comes with the Universal console from its T6 predecessor. It also comes with the Cyclical Polarity Modulator and Antimatter Spread consoles. These consoles do not constitute a set, though, unlike many other Legendary ships' consoles. In fact, the Antimatter Spread console is part of a completely different three piece set. Via Star Trek Online Thoughts If you ask us, strictly in terms of ship stats, this isn't really a huge improvement over the T6 Walker. If you already love the Walker you've got, you probably don't need to rush for this. And if you want a solid Battlecruiser, there are cheaper high quality options on the C-Store like the Gagarin or Arbiter. But there is one other wrinkle worth consideration here. The T6 Walker Light Exploration Cruiser is a Lobi ship, which is Character-bound. This new Legendary Walker Light Battlecruiser is an account-wide unlock for all Federation aligned characters. So if you want a Walker on two, three, or a handful of characters, then you're definitely in the market for this. The $60 on-sale price is significantly better value than multiple Lobi ship unlocks. TRAAAAAITS IIIIIIIIN LOOOAAAAADOUUUUTS Keeping It Fresh on the Final Frontier By Thomas Reynolds Star Trek Online's content release model has dramatically--and intentionally--changed in the last three years. Previously each “season” introduced a mission arc that, with over a dozen episodes, felt like a season of television. In addition, it seemed we could reliably expect a new reputation to grind with every other release or so (The Sphere, Legacy of Romulus, Delta Rising, Agents of Yesterday, and so on). Now, however, a “season” release is considered one or two mission stories and one or two new TFOs, spaced apart with special events. This isn't an indictment, mind you--we're not J'accuse-ing any one at Cryptic--but it's definitely changed how we feel logging in day after day, if not week after week. When grind events take up the vast majority of the calendar, how do you keep the game feeling new and interesting?

Would definitely have to rewatch it but this is solid” https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1324199525666430977 It Gets Better Cool, right? But wait, there’s more! The Captain herself - Kate Mulgrew - had a few things to say about the matter. ”Willing to hear the crew’s thoughts, as always. However, shouldn’t Tuvok and Neelix have the biggest say...oh wait, they couldn’t! I stand by my decision to restore them to their lives. Rewatch and report back, AOC - and congrats on your win!” https://twitter.com/TheKateMulgrew/status/1324216726754643969 One of the men she saved, or the actor who played him - Tim Russ - also joined the show, saying ”Thank you Kate...I appreciate that! and thank you for the positive message AOC. “Live Long and Prosper”” https://twitter.com/timruss2/status/1324432389028786176 We WILL let you know if US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez goes to Twitch to talk Star Trek! In the meantime, trek out our show notes for links to the tweets! Join us in sending sincere congratulations to both Sir Patrick Stewart and our very own Rod Roddenberry on their well-deserved accolades!!! Rod Roddenberry via IMDB Star Trek Gaming News by Shane Hoover and Thomas Reynolds Doing 200 to Life(time By Thomas Reynolds “Life--time! The less-expensive Life-time! Two hundred for a Life-time! Yes--it’s--true!” [beepadeepaabeepaboop] The year 2020 is mercifully drawing to a close, which inevitably means one thing: the holidays are upon us. But being stuck in the less-future year of 2411 doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the action. Captains will also be able to launch their Discovery-era characters far into the future with the Legendary Discovery Captain Bundle. This bundle is available on PC November 12th (day of recording), and sometime before 2021 on console. Like this summer’s Legendary Romulan Captain Bundle, the new bundle lets you advance one Discovery-faction character to level 65. In fact, other than your hologram boffs representing Discovery show characters, the new bundle’s boost content is identical to the last… the list is long… but here some of our favorites: 1,000,000 Energy Credits 1,000,000 Expertise 250,000 Reputation Dilithium Vouchers A set of five Bridge Officer Specializations (one for each type) 5 Enhanced Universal Tech Upgrades 36 inventory slots 12 account bank slots 6 Bridge Officer Slots 2 starship slots Very Rare Mk XIV ground and space equipment for a complete captain build 6 Commander-rank Very Rare Discovery Photonic Bridge Officers, with all basic abilities trained and Very Rare Mk XIV ground sets As a Legendary bundle, it also includes the new Legendary Walker Light Battlecruiser for all Federation-aligned characters on your account. We’ll get to it a moment, but great discoveries come with great costs and this one’s no exception. The Legendary Discovery Captain Bundle will hit you for an eye-watering 12,000 Zen, or 6,000 at release. It’s a major investment for one toon, ship notwithstanding–you’d better plan to get a lot of mileage out of them. Priority One Podcast asked our social media followers what they thought about the bundle, and oh did they have opinions: Via Star Trek Online Feedback @brianetters: “i'll think about it when they give us the lvl 65 token separately” @selig_joshua: “I will try to be civil, but seriously, do the Devs not realise that we are in a pandemic, that the world economy has in effect tanked and a lot of people can barely hold it together mentally or fearful for their jobs and then they charge this are they on a different planet?” @zeuslegion: “I'd buy the more expensive ships if they included a ‘LaForge Modular Engineering Systems’ mechanic that let me live out the dream of getting 96% engine efficiency by mixing, matching, and tweaking 9 to 12 components on a slotted grid.” Joye McCaster on Facebook: “Hate it, would buy the ship at a normal c-store price or even for 5$ extra because of the account skill. But the bundle is just way too overpriced. I don't see a single thing in it that gives that kind of value. If you have bought any of the prior packs that had anything related to the walker class you will already have the skins, or the t4 ship which really cheapens their value and purpose of buying them.” Walk(er) It Back Now, Y’all By Shane Hoover Okay Captains, let’s reign in the hyperventilating by taking a closer look at that new Legendary Walker Light Battlecruiser. We’ll cut straight to the important question here and ask “How does this thing compare with the T6 Walker we’ve already got?” The biggest differences players will care about are the changes to the Bridge Officer Stations. Rather than the T6 Walker’s Ensign Engineering/Intel station, the Legendary Walker sports a nice Commander Engineering/Command station. So that Rank 3 Concentrate Firepower ability is tempting. It also drops a Science station to Lieutenant, while raising an Ensign Engineering station to Lieutenant. The Legendary ship’s console layout bumps up Tactical and Science slots while dropping two Engineering slots. Like all Legendary ships, the Walker comes with the Universal console from its T6 predecessor. It also comes with the Cyclical Polarity Modulator and Antimatter Spread consoles. These consoles do not constitute a set, though, unlike many other Legendary ships’ consoles. In fact, the Antimatter Spread console is part of a completely different three piece set. Via Star Trek Online Thoughts If you ask us, strictly in terms of ship stats, this isn’t really a huge improvement over the T6 Walker. If you already love the Walker you’ve got, you probably don’t need to rush for this. So if you want a Walker on two, three, or a handful of characters, then you’re definitely in the market for this. The $60 on-sale price is significantly better value than multiple Lobi ship unlocks. TRAAAAAITS IIIIIIIIN LOOOAAAAADOUUUUTS Keeping It Fresh on the Final Frontier By Thomas Reynolds Star Trek Online’s content release model has dramatically--and intentionally--changed in the last three years. This isn’t an indictment, mind you--we’re not J’accuse-ing any one at Cryptic--but it’s definitely changed how we feel logging in day after day, if not week after week. When grind events take up the vast majority of the calendar, how do you keep the game feeling new and interesting?
James Dempsey returns to Voyager Revisited to chat about our favorite Talaxian, Neelix. This week’s homework, Rise (S3E19), gives us a chance to appreciate the challenges that Neelix has overcome, making his characteristic sunny disposition even more remarkable. But there is only so much sniping he can tolerate from his Vulcan commanding officer Tuvok as they attempt to rescue themselves after a shuttle crash. The episode is a classic action adventure story, mixed with bits of the classic whodunit. Jean MacDonald with James Dempsey.

George: I have no idea about com-pu-ters, but I know a man who does and that is UCLS info-tech-ererer, Ciaran Brennan; Ciaran: This’s computer science 101 like, I am your lord and saviour to convey you through the valley of the Trojan’s, Daemons and Sassers like. You’re gonna like-it. Floyd: Hey, look over there Ace, there’s that scanger who was throwin’ punches first day. Ace: Ah! Raymond… how did he fall onto this course? Brian: (Inhales) So whatch goin’ tell me about Tash hah? Ace: Dick showed us a piece of paper from Tash’s room that confirmed he was the ‘Imperator’ from last night’s Ebay madness. So Floyd has this idea to- Floyd: …make Tash think he actually won because then- Ace: …we’ll be able to manipulate him and get revenge- Floyd: …for him picking on us for extra work and all round- Ace: …persecution- Floyd: …and because he’s a- Ace: ….sociopathic Talaxian bent on destroying the galaxy. Floyd: Yes, right. That. Probably. Mmm. So, y’see, we just needed to find a- Ace: …girl. Floyd: …stop that now. Ace: Sorry. Brian: Who did you find? Ace: Yeah who did you find Floyd? Ciaran: Oooh, sorry to interrupt your fascinating communications but I am the system to which you will connect to at this time every Thursday for the semester ok? Unblocked access to my words at all time like, you know? Thanks… As I was sayin’… My names Ciaran Brennan and today we’ll be doin’ VB; Visual Basic, loada shite really, but seeing as it’s what puts… Ace: Tell us Floyd… Floyd: It’s simple… Brian: Yeah… Floyd: Pavla at Finny’s bar, single girl, up for a laugh, got a brain and a filthy mouth. Brian: She’s nice. I’d like to touch her. Ace: You have your plate full man, chill-pill, Top 10 choice for sure Floyd, but I think you got your work cut out. She’s a bunny boiler if ever there was one. Floyd: Exactly. More than a match for Mr. Tash… Brian: Ah, shhhh… Ciaran: …don’t like it… This language, like you know, it’s ‘code’. Which is cool, ok so… Log on to the pcs everyone and away we- Ace: If I can get a chance here I can copy over the verification email I got from Ebay last night, take the source code in HTML and then take Tash’s details from the print out and then add it in, fix up the code, make sure it looks like it’s from Ebay and then email it to him, saying he’s the winner… Floyd: Oh! Vice Admiral Genius, all boosters firing there… or whatever they say. Ciaran: Ah boys, thought I recognised yis, ‘sis great y’ron the course with me like. Don’t worry ‘about a thing now, I’ll see yis right, I know Finny and he knows ye and we now know each other, so keep yer noses clean, keep the head down and yis have yer A’s in the brown paper bag already okaaay? Ace: Wow, thanks Ciaran. Brian: That's brilliant. Ciaran: Our lil’ secret okaaay? Brian: That’s deadly isn’t it? Floyd: My kind of teacher. Ok, Ace, whatcha doin’ there in cyber-city? Ace: Got the source code from Ebay, now just putting in the ‘Imperator’s’ details and changing the syntax to read that in fact he is now the winner as the previous incumbent was a hoaxer, and couldn’t verify the security measures in place by the auctioneer. Floyd: Right on Chief. Ace: …So in effect it’ll read that Tash won the second auction as the next highest bidder was chosen. Now I’ll test the source code to see does that show all right in Explorer, and then send Tash an email to his Ebay account contact email that he has to… Brian: Psst…Ace… Ace: -meet the girl tonight at 7pm at- Brian: ACE…. Ace: - Finny’s bar which doesn’t give us much time to get Pavla ready, but if your… owww! Raymond: What you doing geek? Ace: Fuck! Raymond: Mmm, looks interestin’ eh?! What were you just saying about Mr Tash? Brian: SEND IT!! Floyd: Fuck off Raymond, go listen to your Scooter collection. Ciaran: Quiet at the back there lads… Ace: Done! It’s sent. Hi shithead… Floyd: Oh, the ‘staunch’ in this place… Raymond: The hippy thinks he’s getting’ lucky a second time eh? Careful now, I’m seeing a little problem for you boys- Ace: Get the halitosis out of my face before I… Raymond: What? Before you piss your g-string and cry to teacher, Percy boy… Ace: You fucking Retard! Call me names eh?? (Scuffle ensues) Raymond: I'll knock the bleedin' head off ya! Ciaran: Oooh, oooh, I don’t like it! I don’t like it! Ace! (Mr. Tash enters room) Student: Looka! It’s Tash! Tash: Hello! Oh, Mr Brennan, I will help you with this ejectamenta. Come here you wasters. Waaaysters! Ace: This dicksplash started it. Tash: A familiar cry wolf I hear Ace… Up to the office… Raymond: Was all his fault sir, he provoked me sir- Tash: Move! Ciaran: Stupid, stupid. Tash: Watch it, quick step, socks up… (Door slams, in room) Tash: I’m afraid the Provost is not here today, on business with the university council about tomorrow night’s committee meeting. Very important you see, eee-sseeen-tial! You human blight. (Opens office door) Tash: Sit you three degrees of stupidity, stooges one and all (chews gum, spits it out). Ace: It wasn’t me who started it, eh, sir. (Knock on door) Tash: Enter… Dick: Ah, Mr Tash, I’m to water the plants for the Provost while he was away but I see you are busy… I’ll come back later… Tash: Noo noo, please Dick, come in and bear witness to the folly I have before me. The jack-assess were up to horseplay ridibg bareback to a final warning and automatic expulsion if they are not remorseful for their actions… Floyd: Well, this infection here, he’s been listening to too much 2Pac. Ace: But is 2Pac really dead Floyd? Tash: Silence! Raymond: Heh, you’re an idiot Floyd. Dick: Mmm, a quandary Mr Tash. Tash: Oh but I beg to differ Mr Soupe, yet before sentence be administered within the guidelines of the behavioural code, let us listen to the painful cries of innocents from the gallery of goons before us. Raymond, please… Ace: Why him? Pickin' favourites now… Tash: What did you say? Dick: NOW NOW there Ace, fair, eh, (cough), is fair… we realise you are a little shocked at all this confusion but we’ll soon have everybody back to their courses, of course, eh, once Mr Tash has dispensed the appropriates, eh sorry there, eh continue… Tash: Riiight, so Raymond, what to entertain us, is your version of events? Raymond: These two guys were on the pc in Mr Brennan’s class and it was clear they wasn’t listening to the teacher- Tash: ‘Weren’t’ Raymond, ‘weren’t’… for the love of grammar… Raymond: Instead they WERE ON EBAY AND TRYING TO TAKE… Dick: JESUS! Ace: ARRRGHGHGHGH! Tash: Settle down! Settle down! Ace: Awgn bastard! Floyd: Say a word and I’ll cut your beans off… Tash: Cretins! Raymond: …he’s trying t-oowwww!! Dick: Sorry Raymond, that’s my watering can. Tash: Pull them apart Dick at once! Ace: Mongoloid Vulcan-faced retard… Tash: That is enough! I wish to hear no more. You are all as guilty as each other and- Dick: …deserve to be given another chance because UCLS in, is, a fostering facility that doesn’t give up on its students! I couldn’t agree more with you Mr Tash, good thinking, yep. Fine handlin’… Tash: I said nothing of the sort… Dick: Didcha not? Oh, well, I thought a man of your stature would naturally see the wood for the trees and understand that these young troubled growing plants need care, an', an' eh encouragement to stay on the right track… but, Tash: The plants outside need watering Mr Soupe, thank you for your help, that will be all. Dick: Right y’are so. Now youse lads, youse listen to Mr Tash and don’t let him see this badness out of yis again. Right… right? Thanks! Cough… dum-de dum… Tash: How strange. Whatever is going on I want it ended now. Raymond: But… Tash: Quiet! Detention. Tomorrow night. 8pm. At the committee meeting you will, all three of you, set up the tables, serve the drinks and clean up once the meeting is over. You will take instruction from Mr Soupe, who obviously seems to be of your ilk enough to get through to your thick coagulated heads. And now, feast your emaciated faces on me boys; this is your last warning. One more slip, one more twitch and I will personally guarantee your frog march out of this University. That’s it! Dismissed. And Raymond, don’t play the tell-tale snitch. Now get out of this office, you staaains mmmnnn. (Door closes) Raymond: Hahahaha. Look at ya now! Hahaaha! Ace: Listen you child, don’t fuck with the fury in me because if you unleash the fucking fury I will, so help me Spock, I will make you feel hurt… and big amoeba like you don’t like pain do they? Raymond: Ow! Ace: Do they?! Captain Janeway: At ease… Floyd: I- I reiterate my threat to cut yer balls of too. Raymond: Play your little games, I don’t care… Floyd: Good! Raymond: You two are psychos! Floyd: So let’s all have a group hug here in the Scooby gang- and get some team bonding for tomorrow night okay? Raymond: On witcha, ya pack of idiots. Ace: I think he, eh… Floyd: Got the message? Yeah, I saw the veins bulging… you were about to go all Chuck Norris on us with the nervous hands. Ace: Ehm, mm, yeah, sometimes it all builds up… and… pow! Out it comes. Floyd: Yeah, Superman’s underpants blow straight off ya! I get ya. Got to be careful though y’see ‘coz- Ace: Are you lecturing me? Floyd: No, no- Ace: Good. I’m all lectured out at the moment Floyd. Between pep talks at home to mad psychopaths in this place, I’m needing a time-out big style. Floyd: And Star Trek helps, I get it. Ace: That’s nothing to do with it! You… y- aaargh! I LIKE Star Trek, its science fictional entertainment that I find fun, enjoyable and stimulating! What is it with you? Can’t you understand that art is art on one side and life with its, whatever it is, is on the other! Floyd: You are not a nerd ok, you are maybe just- Ace: OH FUCK UP YOU MORON! Floyd: More sensitive… I’ll be your personal insult bag and you can hurl ‘em, sling ‘em and belch ‘em at me and it’ll work for ya Treklord… Ace: (Sigh). So anyway, what are we going to do now with Tash? He’s gonna read that email soon, then he’s, ceterus paribus, going to be at Finny’s at 7pm to meet Pavla at the same time that we have to meet Brenda with her solicitor. Floyd: This is like, CSI UCLS… where’s David Carusso to pick up the bitches? Ace: Fool. And another complication is having the date for Bubbles tomorrow night while we’re going to be at that committee meeting. Floyd: Change it. Ace: Can’t. Floyd: Why not? Ace: Are you lucid today Fogbrain? The rules man! The rules! Has to be tomorrow. Rules said so. This is going to be a bit tricky my long haired mongrel. Floyd: Rules, rules, rules… Sometimes you just have too 'much' rules… Ace: Thanks for solving the problem there with some insightful idea. Floyd: Ah-ha, I see the colour’s back in your face now. Never fear, for when Dick Soupe is near, let’s get a head start by throwin’ shapes to Finny’s and asking Pavla now. Yes, that’s right, you with the cotton scarf, follow me; the mellow fellow, on the sick road… Ace: Follow the mellow sick road… Floyd: Yes, and together! Together: ♫ FOLLOW FOLLOW FOLLOW FOLLOW FOLLOW THE MELLOW SICK ROAD, OH FOLLOW THE MELLOW SICK ROOOOAAAAD!! ♫ Dick: Youse are a pair of blob hammocks, nearly getting’ yourselves thrown out! Utter black enamel madness! Floyd: (leaving…) Tomorrow, Dick Tomorrow! Elevenses, remember?! Dick: If I had young lads like that they’d abeen drowned in d’barrel out d’back be now. (Long pause) Dick: But I do like them… U.C.L.S. I - An ear-film adventure by Amplevoicepod. The story of Floyd Frisbane, Accursis 'Ace' Byrne and Brian 'Bubbles' Waterbury, after meeting each other on the first day at University College Loughfeg State. It's a time for moral advancement as they bond when trying to procure a virgin for Brian over the internet. They must be careful not to rouse the attention of teacher Norman Tash who himself is intent on straightening this trio out. Science professor Keith, meanwhile, is annually dismayed at the sheer stupidity of the year's intake and is contemptuous of Provost Broadleaf O'Hara as he struggles to keep Loughfeg State University afloat. Janitor Dick Soupe is barely holding the buildings and himself together as he tries to help the new enrollees integrate. On Loughfeg's main street, Finny and Pavla trade insults as they helm Finny's bar while attempting to avoid catching the red eyes of resident comic-lover barfly Baldy Kendall and U.C.L.S computer teacher Ciaran Brennan. Kes Mini-Marathon. Everyone's favorite Ocampan, Kes, may have been in only three seasons of Star Trek: Voyager, but she left her mark on the Voyager crew and on Voyager fans alike. It's the episode of Star Trek: Voyager that's so disturbing, so unappetizing, so unsettling... that you'll feel the whack factor down at the molecular level. When our resident Vulcan and our friendly neighborhood Talaxian get fused into a new hybrid being, heebies get fused with jeebies as... it... starts to make serious moves on Kes. Will Captain Janeway welcome this new being to the crew, or do the right thing and kill it with fire? Jacqueline Lopez and Jennifer Zhang discuss the effects of this abomination aboard the ship while drinking an abomination of a wine. Seriously, listen in as everyone suffers. Two to beam out! And maybe one email from you to beam in?: engage@sevenofwine.com

Find out what the Voyager crew would bring for a little taste of home in the Delta Quadrant. Also, we solve the mystery of how exactly it's possible to burn food in the replicator. Dragon's Teeth. Resurrecting an ancient civilization is tricky business, especially when the Prime Directive is on the line, and doubly so when that ancient civilization has access to subspace corridors that could shave thousands of light years off your trip home to the Alpha Quadrant. Such is the situation in which we find Captain Janeway and the rest of the Voyager Crew when Seven of Nine takes it upon herself to awaken the Vaadwaur, asleep for 900 years in stasis pods after the near total annihilation of their planet. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Zachary Fruhling, Suzanne Williamson, and Kay Shaw have an ancient-world-style throw-down over the sixth-season Voyagerepisode "Dragon's Teeth." Join Zachary, Suzanne, and Kay as they resurrect an ancient civilization, accept that it is raining, and walk with dignity while listening to some less-than-cheerful Talaxian nursery rhymes (in the old tongue, naturally). Chapters Intro (00:00:00) Seven of Nine Out of Character (00:01:50) The Cardassians of the Delta Quadrant - Meh! The Killing Game, Part II Commentary. Star Trek two-part episodes tend to be known for a strong first half and weak conclusion. That is not the case when it comes to "The Killing Game," the second two-parter of Voyager Season Four. Despite starting with only a quarter of an hour of material for the second half, the writers pulled this one together with a nice mix of drama, humor, social commentary, and a controversial conclusion that led to repercussions later in the series. Char and Tristan conclude their commentary of "The Killing Game" in this episode of To The Journey. Topics discussed touch on which side of the resistance they'd want to be on, Tommy's lexicon, what Jeri Ryan was contemplating on the rainy set, and Ethan Phillips' survival of Talaxian *and* Klingon makeup. The Talaxians. They're cooks, traders, smugglers, warriors, and narcotics dealers—just like us! We don't hear about Talaxian culture in much detail over the course of Voyager, but in this episode of To The Journey Char and Tristan get down to the nitty gritty on what it means to always have an X in your name. Would you forsake your kind and go to Earth or get cozy with a local woman on an asteroid? That's just one of the questions we seek to answer.
Season One Marathon. Regular listeners know that TTJ loves its lists. And in this episode of To The Journey Char and Tristan combine that with another favorite thing—Voyager marathons. Char insists that any season one marathon must begin with “Caretaker,” and Tristan raves about “Jetrel,” which told the backstory of his favorite Talaxian. Listen on and find out which other season-one episodes made their lists!
