Roqayah is off this week, so Kumars is joined from the top of the hour by returning guest cohost Nora Barrows-Friedman, associate editor at the Electronic Intifada and cohost of the Electronic Intifada Podcast as well as The Brief, along with Jewish Voice for Peace organizer Estee Chandler, founder of that group’s Los Angeles chapter, producer of Middle East in Focus and Middle East Minute+ on KPFK, and host of the upcoming podcast called The Breakout Room with Estee Chandler. After sharing her personal path to Palestine solidarity activism, including her career in Hollywood as an actor and visual effects artist, Estee introduces listeners to the saga surrounding The Lobby – USA, a four-part Al Jazeera documentary exposing Israel’s covert influence operations in the United States that remains largely unseen almost three years after its completion due to a successful pressure campaign from the Israel lobby to get the government of Qatar to censor the film, later obtained and released by the Electronic Intifada. The gang discusses the context of the surge in repression of the Palestine solidarity movement after 2014, when an initial wave of victories for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns were followed by a critical mass of activists explicitly linking white supremacy in the US and Israel-Palestine at the protests sparked by the police killing of Michael Brown. Estee explains what the documentary reveals about the strategy and methods of Israel lobby organizations as well as the close relationships between them and the Israeli government. To RSVP for the special screening of the 1 hour supercut (plus a Q&A to follow) this Thursday October 15, go to jvp.org/LobbyCampusCut. Thursday October 15, 2020 Last time we read Jesus' words which He spoke about our vision. Being able to see physically, and therefore seeing the world and its needs, which He summed up as food, drink, and clothes, did not equal light within, i.e. being able to see as He sees, being able to see His life. For His life was the light of the world and He didn't care about worldly needs. First, we must see Him through faith in the gospel. Second, we must discover that eternal life is more so a type of life than it is a duration of life. Third, we must look for that life with all our heart. All our heart is the only path to seeing. I did not say that, the Lord did. Some perhaps preferred my older teaching that might be summarized as all one had to do was listen to the word of God and confess sins and all would... for full notes: https://www.cgtruth.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=2318

Meeting the challenge of remote working and learning is the key focus of this year’s EdTech summit, The Learnovation Summit, which takes place from tomorrow (October 13) to Thursday (October 15). In online learning’s biggest year ever, the leading global annual event will be held virtually this year – from October 13 – 15 – with the theme, ‘Living and Learning in a Changing Workplace’. The Learnovation Summit is organised by The Learnovate Centre, a leading learning technology research centre in Trinity College Dublin. Funded by Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland, The Learnovate Centre is an industry-led technology centre made up of expert researchers using emerging technology to help transform the lives of learners in the workplace, schools, at third level and in the home. Ahead of Learnovation starting tomorrow, Learnovate Centre Director Nessa McEniff said: “The world of education and workplace learning was already transforming at an unstoppable pace with Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and gamification helping to prepare us for the workplaces of the future. But Covid-19 has accelerated all those changes as the entire globe was collectively plunged into a new world where workplaces and education went virtual. Learnovation is bringing Irish and international entrepreneurs and innovators in the EdTech sector together to explore how we can transform learning experiences for employees, students and customers in online’s biggest year.” One of the keynote speakers at Learnovation is Olivier Crouzet from ‘42’ a third-level IT college which has no teachers, classrooms or lectures and where the students learn through projects (which have no set deadlines) and evaluate their own peers. 42 charges no fees and there are no qualification requirements to become a student. Mr Crouzet will be speaking on Day 2 of The Learnovation Summit 2020. Phil Stack has hauled his trusty double bass into just about every RSL, pub, club, theatre and arena you can think of. Abby Dobson has sung all the way from tiny restaurants in Europe to the open air of The Domain in Sydney. They've both managed to notch songs of theirs into the Australian psyche – Phil with “In the Summertime” as part of Thirsty Merc, Abby with “Even When I'm Sleeping” as part of Leonardo's Bride. After all these years, however, both still have an insatiable love of performing – indeed, it's what has brought them together for this very chat in the first place. Ahead of Phil's album launch show in Sydney – where Abby will support – the two spoke openly about lugging PAs, surviving grunge, Paris syndrome and how hindsight in 2020 is still 20/20. Catch Phil and Abby playing live at Mary's Underground in Sydney on Thursday October 15.
