The Tuesday that just passed saw New York Attorney General Letitia James illustrate a striking situation. Should Trump prove unable, or decline, to pay the penalty of $354.8 million, posed against him after the decision of Judge Arthur Engoron, she would go after his properties in New York. Among these assets is the iconic Trump Building, located at 40 Wall Street, a beacon of Trump's time as the 45th commander in chief. The DC Enquirer previously informed the public of the judge's conclusion last week. The verdict held that Trump had acted dishonestly with several banks to gain an advantage in loan agreements. Subsequently, Engoron pronounced a substantial $354 million penalty on the ex-president. Further, the ruling stipulates that Trump is precluded from serving in a leadership role in any corporation or legal entity in New York for three years, adding another layer to the punitive measures. Additionally, the responsibility for approximately $100 million in pre-judgment interest falls squarely on Trump's shoulders. In spite of all this, the billionaire business mogul is not standing down. He resolutely promised to challenge the decision to impose the hefty fine - a stand that many would see as quintessentially Trump.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2: On Tuesday, Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley teased a “major” speech. Many media outlets believed Haley was announcing the suspension of her campaign ahead of Saturday's South Carolina primary, her home state, where she is projected to lose by 25-points, according to Real Clear Politics polling averages. However, she vowed to continue with her long-shot campaign. While speaking with Jen Psaki on MSNBC, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi baselessly claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin could successfully bribe Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump if he were ever to return to office. While appearing on CNN, businessman Kevin O'Leary warned that Judge Arthur F. Engoron's decision to fine Donald Trump $354 million for inflating the value of assets controlled by the Trump Organization in past financial statements could lead to businesses fleeing the state of New York—resulting in severe economic damages. O'Leary also noted how strange the civil suit was considering there were no victims. George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley told a Fox News panel that he would not be surprised to see Donald Trump appeal his $354 million fine all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. During a conversation with Bari Weiss of The Free Press, Harvard University economics professor Roland Fryer revealed that “all hell broke loose” following the publication of a 2017 study he conducted on police shootings and the use of force based on race. Fryer writes: “On non-lethal uses of force, blacks and Hispanics are more than fifty percent more likely to experience some form of force in interactions with police. Adding controls that account for important context and civilian behavior reduces, but cannot fully explain, these disparities. On the most extreme use of force—officer-involved shootings—we find no racial differences in either the raw data or when contextual factors are taken into account.” Because Fryer's research concluded that there is no racial bias in police shootings, there was immediate backlash from members of academia. eBay, the e-commerce giant, has been ordered to pay a $3 million fine to settle criminal charges linked to a disturbing harassment campaign against a Massachusetts couple. The charges include stalking through interstate travel, stalking through electronic communications, witness tampering, and obstruction of justice. The couple was targeted due to their online newsletter's critical coverage of eBay in 2019. The U.S. Department of Justice announced that eBay entered into a deferred prosecution agreement, admitting to its criminal conduct. In addition to the $3 million criminal penalty, eBay is required to retain an independent corporate compliance monitor for three years and make substantial improvements to its compliance program. "eBay engaged in absolutely horrific, criminal conduct. The company's employees and contractors involved in this campaign put the victims through pure hell, in a petrifying campaign aimed at silencing their reporting and protecting the eBay brand," stated Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy. The victims, identified as Ina and David Steiner, co-founded EcommerceBytes, a website that reported on e-commerce companies, including eBay. The harassment campaign began after Ina wrote an article about eBay suing Amazon for stealing its sellers. Following this article, eBay's then-CEO, Devin Wenig, allegedly sent a message stating, "If we are ever going to take her down... now is the time." Jim Baugh, eBay's former Senior Director of Safety and Security, referred to Ina as a "biased troll who needs to get BURNED DOWN." The harassment campaign against the Steiners involved disturbing deliveries to their home, including a book on surviving the death of a spouse, a bloody pig mask, a fetal pig, a funeral wreath, live spiders, and cockroaches. It also included private messages criticizing the newsletter's content, surveillance, and the installation of a GPS tracking device on their car. Craigslist posts inviting the public for sexual encounters at the couple's home were part of the harassment. After the victims contacted local police, Baugh made false statements and deleted digital evidence related to the campaign. Baugh, described as the ringleader, was sentenced to 57 months in prison in September 2022, and other former eBay employees or contractors received sentences ranging from 12 to 18 months in prison. In a statement, the Steiners emphasized the damaging impact of eBay's actions on them emotionally, psychologically, physically, reputationally, and financially. They also filed a civil lawsuit against eBay and its former employees. eBay's current CEO, Jamie Iannone, expressed the company's responsibility for the misconduct of its former employees and its commitment to upholding high standards of conduct and ethics. "eBay remains committed to making things right with the Steiners," Iannone stated. This settlement marks a significant development in a disturbing case of corporate harassment and misconduct, highlighting the legal consequences faced by a major company for its employees' criminal actions.
