Of course, Penn State fans are smart and want to know the immediate return on the highest-paid coordinator in college football history now. Given the need to play complimentary football on a team that doesn't return an explosive, superstar offense, can the defense get up to speed under Knowles and power a championship run? We're discussing that, plus the latest recruiting intel on today's BWI Live Show. Join us at 10 a.m. on YouTube as we discuss our expectations of the defense, plus answer your questions in the BWI Mailbag. We're taking questions from the message board and featuring them on our show's final segment, but we're talking to you in the live chat all show long! Join us to get your thoughts and opinions heard. The best way to know when we go live is to subscribe to the BWI YouTube Channel and enable notifications so you never miss any of our news and information. Penn State introduces Jim Knowles this weekPenn State will host its introductory press conference for Jim Knowles on Tuesday, which is why our show has been moved to Monday morning. We'll continue our extended discussion on Knowles and what he brings to Penn State on today's show. So far, we've been asking you questions about what you want to know about his defense, but today, we're asking the experts what they're curious to learn. Sean Fitz and Nate Bauer will discuss the questions they're eager to hear answered in Knowles's first impression with the media. The main thrust of the conversation around the hire is that Penn State fans are worried that this change will set the defense back in a very important year for the program. The team retained most of its senior talent, who could have moved on to the NFL Draft this spring. Will they be up to speed in the defensive system to capitalize on this momentum toward a championship run? Fitz's recruiting update With January in the books, it was a truncated recruiting month for the football program, which took it's 2024 season deep into the playoffs. How did things turn out after two recruiting weekends? The team wrapped up Junior Days on Saturday and Fitz has the latest news you need to know about the program and it's push for a top ten class in 2026. Finally, we'll end the show with the BWI Mailbag. The roster is set for winter conditioning and spring practice, so who has a chance to fill a role vacated by exiting starters and veterans? We'll rank the top five most important positions up for grabs this coming spring, summer, and fall. Defensive Coordinator Search Penn State is still without a defensive coordinator as of the airing of Tuesday's show. It was a day for the defense as Dominic DeLuca had two interceptions, including a pick six, and Tony Rojas had one that went for another pick six as the Nittany Lions stifled the SMU offense to earn a place in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. Abdul Carter threw in numerous pressures and a sack as well as Dani Dennis-Sutton who helped terrorize Kevin Jennings in a huge win for James Franklin. Penn State's offense struggled early but took over on the ground as Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen both averaged nearly seven yards per carry. Drew Allar could not find his receivers but made plays with his legs to help the cause as the Nittany Lions had a comfortable lead at the half. Or is a Fiesta Bowl win against Boise State in the next round essential to that narrative as well? Can any defense in the playoffs stop running backs Katron Allen and Nick Singleton after their huge days? How much praise do OC Andy Kotelnicki and DC Tom Allen deserve? And have Abdul Carter, Tony Rojas and Dominic DeLuca helped the defense find its stride after forcing numerous turnovers against SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings? The script flipped on Saturday in the win over SMU. The defense forced three first-half turnovers on interceptions of Kevin Jennings, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Linebackers Dom DeLuca and Tony Rojas fueled a 28-0 first-half surge from the Nittany Lions that put the game out of reach. The Penn State offense had another sluggish and uneven performance. However, they did enough to complement the defense in the win. The ground game got going with a 25-yard touchdown run by Kaytron Allen in the first half. Overall, it was still a quiet day for the running backs, who failed to crack 100 yards on the day. More postgame contentJoin us for more reaction from Beaver Stadium after the win. However, the offense picked things up after that, scoring on its next four possesions before going three-and-out to start the fourth quarter. Penn State quarterback Drew Allar started out euqally slow, going 2-4 to start the game before getting hot and finishing the firs thalf 10-14 for 129 yards. When Allar got looks he liked during the game, he attacked downfield, primarily to slot receiver Liam Clifford. The veteran was this week's receiver of the moment, with three catches for 107 yards. The team was also without top game-breaker Nick Singleton. In his absence, Kaytron Allen carried the load, rushing 21 times for 78 yards. Freshman Quinton Martin showed off some of his potent skills, with three catches for 18 yards and several strong runs with mutiple broken tackles. Penn State defense dominates the third quarter againOnce agian the Penn State defense, like it's offense started slow, giving up a six play drive that took up six minutes of the first quarter, but ended on a UCLA failed fourth down attempt. However, the defense allowed the offense to race ahead in the middle of the game, as they typcially do this season. UCLA gained -9 yards in the third quarter and only manged nine plays on the way to the loss. It was a big game for two players who've struggled recently. Safety Zakee Wheatley finished the game with seven tackles and Tony Rojas finished with eight. What was your favorite moment of the game? Are you still concerned with the way the team plays to start? The defense allowed 24 first half points thanks to exploisve plays and methodical drives from the Bowling Green offense. However, the Nittany Lions offense did enough to keep the team even through the first two quarters. We're going through that this week, plus previewing the NFL Combine and taking your questions in the BWI Mailbag.  If you haven't subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable notifications. That way you'll be alerted when there's new content, breaking news and interviews from the leader in Penn State football and recruiting coverage.  Penn State max testing week Later this week we'll step inside the Lasch Building weight room to see Penn State football put on a different kind of show. The team has max testing week this week and squats are the main attraction during the week-long test. However, the team is testing other lifts, including power cleans. Sophomore linebacker Tony Rojas released a video on Tuesday of his personal record on the lift of 350 pounds, which you can check out here.  We'll discuss the progress of the second-year Penn State linebacker. It's also NFL Combine week where the former Nittany Lions will be putting on their own athletic show for scouts and GMs in Indianpolis. We'll preview that event and discuss Blue White Illustrated's coverage of the process. If you want a primer for the Combine, check out our previews.  Spring Football Preview  Max testing week means that spring football is just around the corner. The team will break winter conditioning and then go on Spring Break with the rest of Penn State next week. After that, football is officially back!  We're getting ready for another round of Penn State football by power ranking the team's offensive positions ahead of camp. Which unit has the most promise? And which ones can gain the most ground? We're dissecting the offense under new coordinator Andy Kotelnicki this week. On their weekly Penn State sports podcast, host Adam Bittner and Daily Collegian/Post-Gazette insider Seth Engle analyze a busy week of news around the football and men's basketball programs. Does Abdul Carter's move from linebacker to defensive end help his NFL draft stock as he looks to follow in the footsteps of Micah Parsons? Is new coordinator Tom Allen's unit now better positioned to replace NFL draft prospects Chop Robinson and Adisa Isaac on the defensive line? And are young players including Tony Rojas ready to step into Carter's place?Later, our duo tackles the push by some university trustees to rename the Beaver Stadium field after Joe Paterno. Does it show a lack of focus on helping James Franklin's current program? And would the energy be better spent on bolstering NIL efforts to level the playing field with Michigan and Ohio State. Then to end the show, Adam and Seth weigh in on leading scorer Kanye Clary's dismissal from the basketball program. The BWI Live show looks at how the Nittany Lions may replace Abdul Carter at defensive end and what Tony Rojas playing Sam linebacker means for the spring. We're also discussing the shift in how the team will play on the back end with new defensive coordinator Tom Allen taking over the squad. What will he prioritize from a defensive perspective in order to generate turnovers? And how does that affect the safety position? It's all defense all day on the BWI Live show! Join us at 10 a.m. Tuesday through Friday to get the latest on Penn State football, recruiting and wrestling. If you can't catch the show live, check it out on replay here, embedded in the article, or on the Blue-White Illustrated YouTube Channel. Penn State is moving Abdul Carter to edge Penn State made the decision this offseason to move its most famous defender to a different position. We've discussed the pros and cons of Carter's move to the defensive end here on the site; now we add some context to that conversation on the show. https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/penn-state-linebacker-abdul-carter-moves-to-defensive-end/ But, the inherent advantage of having Carter at linebacker was sneaking an extra edge defender on the field. The Penn State defense had a Bizzaro lineup in 2023, thanks to Carter and Kobe King's size in the box. Both players checked in at 250 pounds, meaning that it was like having a bonus defensive lineman when either run-blitzed an interior gap. This doesn't mean that young linebackers like Tony Rojas, Kaveion Keys, or Keon Wylie can't play the run skillfully, but it does change the nature of the team's front seven. Also, while Carter's off-ball instincts weren't exceptional last season, he became more proficient as the season wore on. His first quarter against Ole Miss hinted at a Micah Parsons-level bowl breakout before an injury ended his day early. Next, we dive further into the ramifications of moving Carter on the linebacker position. Will Penn State play three linebackers in 2024? Or will Allen shift the defense to a two-linebacker look? There's plenty of ways this can go, which we discuss on the show. Penn State defensive shift in coverages Lastly, we detail some of the potential changes that Allen could make in the defensive structure. We discuss the difference between a man coverage-focused defense and the potential results of a zone coverage defense. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com How does Penn State replace Abdul Carter at linebacker? The work of the Combahee River Collective, particularly their work on ‘simultaneity' in the 1970s, laid a foundation for Crenshaw's development of the concept of ‘intersectionality'. That's what head coach James Franklin said in the lead up to the Peach Bowl. Yes, the team does try to find select players to fill specific needs, but the team still believes in internal development. So on today's BWI Live Show, we're discussing which players that didn't have big roles last year, need to take that step. We're also breaking down a unique opportunity for the team's defensive players. A certain position hasn't been open for three years, but thanks to graduation, is finally open. We'll discuss how good Curtis Jacobs and Daequan Hardy were in covering the slot for Penn State. If you haven't yet, subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel so you don't miss any of our live and breaking news content. We'll also provide you with coaches interviews and shows featuring wrestling and basketball. Penn State slot coverage is an opportunity for a new batch of players For the past three seasons Jacobs and Hardy have split the duties as the primary slot defenders in Penn State's defense. On today's show we're talking about the article featuring these two from last week. Here's an excerpt. While Jacbos' contributions as a coverage linebacker in the flat are harder to quantify, Hardy's contributions are clear. No Big Ten cornerback had more third-down coverage snaps than Hardy over the last three seasons. Despite a rough start to the 2022 season, Hardy allowed a passer rating of just 50.9 into his coverage since 2021. No player with more than ten targets can boast such a low rating allowed, and no player saw more third-down targets than Hardy. We'll explain how the team can replace these two and how Tom Allen's defense could potentially cause some changes to the type of player filling this role. Owen Aliciene breakdown If you haven't you can check out T-Frank's Film Room on new tackle commit Owen Aliciene. The Penn State Class of 2025 prospect joined the Nittany Lions after the team's first junior day of the new year. We'll discuss his talents and where he fits in the recent run of tall tackle prospects for offensive line coach Phil Trautwein. Which Penn State players need to develop? The team is deep into the offseason conditioning program, building themselves into the team they will be for 2024. But which players are critical for the team to see grow? There are some clear holes on the roster for a young player to fill in 2024 and some positions need competition to create overall growth for the team. We'll highlight the players that weren't starters in 2023 who need to be contributors next year, such as Tony Rojas, Omari Evans and Zion Tracy. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Which young Penn State players need to develop this offseason? Penn State camp strikes the right mood Despite the weather, the environment for fans at Saturday night's practice was perfect. What did Penn State do to put on a good show for fans? Greg Pickel discusses what he liked about the setup and how he thinks fans should consider attending next year if the team decides to do another event like this. However, the weather was a significant factor on Saturday night, with driving rain that lasted most of the time the players were on the field. The show discusses how that impacted the event. It was also the first time that Pickel or anyone on the show had seen a full Penn State practice before. Pickel describes what the day was like and how structured head coach James Franklin's event was. He also makes a comment about what practice, outside of the scrimmage, is like for fans that didn't attend. Scrimmage takeaways Next, the BWI Live show recaps the players and units that stood out during the competition portion of practice. Penn State put on a show for fans, working with the first-team defense against the first-team offense. The defense dominated a large portion of the scrimmage, and Pickel breaks down which players stood out to him, including new transfer running back Trey Potts. But the defensive line was the night's story, with several players up front shutting down the Penn State offensive attack during the situational work. With veterans getting a rest after the first few drives, young defenders like King Mack, Tony Rojas, and others stepped up and made plenty of plays. Find out which other units and players were under the spotlight during the scrimmage. Penn State will open the doors of Lasch again this evening for players and coaches to speak with the media. Penn Stated: Talking Penn State Football with Donnie Collins

For sure, there was plenty to talk about after last Saturday's Blue-White Game at Beaver Stadium.Omari Evans and Kaden Saunders may have cooled some of the doubt about the readiness of Penn State's second batch of receivers. For backup defensive ends, Dani Dennis-Sutton and Zuriah Fisher sure did look like gamebreakers. For true freshmen who would normally still be in high school, Tony Rojas and Ta'Mere Robinson sure did look like potential stars at linebacker. KJ Winston might be a stud at safety. The defense potentially looks dominant, even if the kicking specialists left a bit to be desired. But with special guest Cory Giger of DK Pittsburgh Sports on as his special guest this week, of course Penn Stated host Donnie Collins is going to put the focus back on the quarterback position and the performance of sophomore Drew Allar in what, in all reality, was his first career game as the Nittany Lions' starting quarterback.Donnie and Cory went in-depth on the receiver battle and made themselves GMs while discussing their view on what positions Penn State coaches should look to bolster through the transfer portal this summer.Still, most of the talk centered on Allar, who threw for more than 200 yards in the game, with just one touchdown, and had to battle a hard-charging defense throughout the overcast afternoon. Is he ready to help Penn State contend for a Big Ten East title sooner rather than later? And, how important is he for a program that wants to get itself on an accelerated national title pace?Plus, Donnie and Cory give their opinions on realistic timelines for the Nittany Lions to win a national championship. The panel of experts will answer questions throughout the show and interact with the audience.  Today, they'll tackle training camp battles, Penn State's freshman linebacker duo, and of course, the offensive and defensive lines.  Penn State Practice observations Fitz, Bauer, and T-Frank will begin the show by discussing their observations of Penn State's open practice and the general thoughts that stick out about what they saw and heard. Next, T-Frank and Fitz will discuss the position battles that seem very quiet so far this year. T-Frank wants to know why. Next, Bauer will give his thoughts about the offensive side of the ball and what he saw on Tuesday.   Between the Lines Today's segment dedicated to understanding what head coach James Franklin means when he discusses a topic will focus on recruiting and freshman linebackers. Here are his comments on how challenging it is to recruit during the spring.  I think we've been fortunate that the administration has been supportive. You guys know I've talked about this in the past with the new rules. They almost make it impossible to not have a big staff. You have to have the numbers.  "As you guys have seen, we're literally at these practices and we'll have anywhere between 80 and 120 prospects at practice and some of them are guys that are rising seniors that we're trying to get to commit, some are rising juniors that we've already offered, but then if you don't do a good job with those other 60 guys. There's going to be five or six guys in there that you're going to offer scholarships and they're going to base their opinion on Penn State about the how that experiences is." Next, the group will discuss what they expect out of the freshmen linebackers Ta'Mere Robinson and Tony Rojas.  "For Ta'Mere, a huge part of it is just the confidence. I think we all forget, he hasn't played football in a year. I literally was at his first game of the year when he got hurt. He didn't play again the rest of the year. So him getting out here playing, I think it's been really valuable for his confidence. And then Rojas, he's been gaining more and more confidence every single day. He's put on 29 pounds since he's been here, and it's a good weight. I don't know how that's necessarily possible, but he's put on 29 pounds. Every time I go to the nutrition bar, he's sitting there eating. After practice, he's getting an extra pump in, and he's playing fast. There's a lot of excitement about those two guys." BWI Mailbag Finally, the crew will hear from you. What do you want to know about practice this week? What other Penn State sports are on your mind? The bulk of Penn State's recruiting class for 2023 is in the books. After a long year of recruiting coverage on this class (that isn't over yet), the leading insiders in Penn State recruiting sit down to answer your questions. Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder discuss the Penn State recruiting class of 2023 on the BWI Daily Edition starting tonight at 8 pm. Host Thomas Frank Carr will take them through the class and discuss the individual players, position groups, and storylines that stand out.  They'll also take your questions and interact with viewers live on the show. So subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and hit the notification button so you don't miss the show. https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK To start the show, Fitz and Snyder will give their overviews of the Class of 2023 and discuss what they think of the group on a high level. Next, they'll get into the developing story of the day; Conrad Hussey.  The four-star safety committed to Penn State in the spring and has waivered on that commitment, visiting other schools this fall.  From there, they'll dive into the class breakdown, starting in the secondary. They'll discuss how the Hussey situation impacts the group and what characteristics this group of defensive backs brings to Penn State.  Next, they'll get to the stars of the class, the offensive line. Fitz and Snyder will give their thoughts on Alex Birchmeier and Jven Williams and then comment on what James Franklin said about the duo this afternoon.  Next, they'll transition to the defensive side of the ball to discuss the linebacker trio of Tony Rojas, Ta'Mere Robinson and Kaveion Keys. Penn State head coach James Franklin outlined where he thinks that group will develop positionally, which Snyder and Fitz will discuss on the show.  The next most interesting group has to be the tight ends. With three four-star talents and one jumbo athlete, what does the panel think of this group? Snyder and Fitz will weigh in on Andrew Rappleyea, Joey Schlaffer, and Mathias Barnwell's fit in the offense.  After discussing the team's wins in the class, they'll flip the script and discuss the misses. Penn State needs several positions that head coach James Franklin outlined in his media day press conference. They'll look at those groups in several different ways.  Lastly, they'll finish by discussing the "little guys" in the class at the offensive skill positions. Can receiver Carmelo Taylor and running backs London Montgomery and Cameron Wallace make an impact despite a lack of college-ready size? Fitz and Snyder will discuss that group before rounding out by discussing quarterback Jaxon Smolik.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

With 19 recruits in the Class of 2023, Penn State's spots are winding down, but their efforts are not. There's still plenty of work to do on the way to a completed class this cycle, and the BWI Daily Recruiting Show returns to update Penn state fans on what's going on with the Nittany Lions. Host Greg Pickel and recruiting insider Ryan Snyder to discuss various topics, including a new RPM Pick by Snyder for the Nittany Lions. First, they start with the celebratory news for Penn State fans from last weekend. Four-star linebackers Tony Rojas and Ta'Mere Robinson committed to the Nittany Lions last week on back-to-back days. Then, Snyder explains how it all came together for Penn State and how confident the team was heading into the weekend. But is Penn State done at the position? Snyder discusses the chances that the team brings Kaveion Keys, a four-star linebacker from Virginia, to complement the duo. Currently, North Carolina and Penn State are neck-and-neck in the recruiting prediction machine. Snyder gives a timeline for Keys' commitment and what chances he sees for the Nittany Lions to land the 180th overall player. Next, they discuss the On3 rankings update that came out on Monday. Penn State has 11 nationally ranked players in the top 300, including a five-star player in Jven Williams and a consensus five-star lineman in Alex Birchmeier. Next, Pickel and Snyder discuss the other names that rose and fell in the rankings, including King Mack, Conrad Hussey, and Joey Schlaffer. They also examine why players like Tomarrion Parker fell during this update. Snyder put in a prediction for Penn State to land four-star defensive end Jalen Thompson out of Cass Tech this week. So what makes him think they'll land the 6-3 pass rusher? He explains what key factors made him pull the trigger. Finally, they discuss Elliot Washington's performance at the UA Future 50 and which players will visit Penn State for the Lasch Bash at the end of the month. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Learn more about your ad choices. Friday is an important day on the Penn State recruiting calendar. Four-star linebacker from Pittsburgh, Ta'Mere Robinson, makes his college decision between Penn State, Virginia Tech, and Miami shortly after 6:15. How will that decision play out? Recruiting reporter Greg Pickel and host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, preview the evening's event.  First, however, they start with a recap of Tony Rojas' decision to join Penn State one day prior. A fellow four-star linebacker, Rojas chose Penn State over similar schools. So how significant was his recruitment? Pickel and T-Frank discuss.  Next, they get into Robinson's preview and explain how confident Penn State fans should be in the outcome later in the evening.  From there, T-Frank asks Greg to give him the short-list of players he'd choose to pursue for Penn State if he were in charge of recruiting. He mentions the most elusive prospect this month, offensive lineman Evan Link, who has gone silent in communication with media and coaches, according to Pickel. He also birngs up Virginia linebacker Kevion Keys and receiver Carmelo Taylor.  T-Frank follows up that list by asking if Pickel thinks it's wise to hold off on taking a wide receiver in case the Nittany Lions can flip a commitment from a higher-ranked recruit. Both Pittsburgh-area receiver Rodney Gallagher and top-150 athlete Cameron Seldon are players that T-Frank would target first.  Lastly, T-Frank brings up a question from Thursday's BWI Daily Mailbag show for Pickel to answer. A Lions Den member wants to know if four-star offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier will get a fifth-star from On3 and if any players in the class will jump from three to four-star profiles. Pickel chooses receiver Yazeed Haynes and explains why.  Next, they shift their focus to Penn State wrestling. Head coach Cael Sanderson received a new contract this offseason. How does that impact the program's stability? How dominant can they become in the future? And how doe NIL add to that already sizable lead? Pickel and T-Frank discuss that at length before turning the conversation to NIL at Penn State and the lack of enthusiasm to contribute to football.  From there, they take a quick look at the 2022 Nittany Lions for a preview of the season. Which underclassmen will take a step forward and jump up the depth chart? T-Frank and Greg give their thoughts.  Finally, they close out the show discussing Bo Nickal's MMA career and a big moment coming up in the near future.  Learn more about your ad choices. It's a jam-packed week of recruiting for Penn State football, poised to add even more high-level talent to their Class of 2023. The BWI Daily Edition Recruiting Show reviews the past weekend in recruiting and previews the decision of both four-star linebackers Tony Rojas and Ta'Mere Robinson coming up later in the week. Host Greg Pickel starts with a quick review of London Montgomery's commitment on Monday evening. The standout runner from Scranton Prep chose Penn State after a deliberate recruiting process that came down to Boston College and the Nittany Lions. How did Montgomery feel about the decision? Recruiting insider Ryan Snyder spoke with the four-star running back this week and relates what he said. Finally, Snyder drops an interesting nugget about 2024 athlete Quinton Martin, a national talent from Pittsburgh. After that, Pickel transitions into a preview of Thursday and Friday. One of the nation's top linebackers, Tony Rojas, will make his college selection on Thursday evening. The list is down to Penn State, Clemson, and Georgia, with the Nittany Lions being the heavy favorite. But will Penn State land player 105 in the On3 consensus? Snyder has a pick and explains his confidence in his choice. The next player is a fellow four-star linebacker from Pittsburgh, Ta'Mere Robinson. Again, can Penn State land both of its top prospects? If so, they'll lock up the 8th, and the 9th ranked player at linebacker in consecutive days. Next, Pickel and Snyder discuss the camp that Snyder attended in Pittsburgh this past Sunday. First, he spoke to some of Penn State's top prospects, including Martin and Robinson. Then, he shares what news he gathered from the event. Finally, the duo discusses Penn State's situation at quarterback in the Class of 2023. Where do the Nittany Lions go after three-star passer Marcus Stokes decommitted from the program? Snyder brings up several names, including four-star quarterback Brady Drogosh, three-star passer Jaxon Smolik and Pierce Clarkson. He breaks down the situation with each player. Penn State football sits eighth in the country in the On3 Class rankings for 2023, heading into a critical stretch of commitments in July. The BWI Daily Recruiting show discusses the important news of the weekend and previews the month ahead.  Host Greg Pickel and recruiting insider Ryan Snyder starts with the surprise that it was a quiet Fourth of July for Penn State recruiting. No players committed to the Nittany Lions over the holiday weekend, and the players that did plan on committing this week have moved their commitment dates to later in the month. Does that change this week? Snyder gives his thoughts and shares what details he knows about players' commitment plans.  From there, they will discuss Carmelo Taylor, a speedy receiver from Virginia who is a part of the Nittany Lion's recruiting picture? Snyder and Pickel will break down where he fits in the Penn State pecking order and how Cameron Seldon plays into that picture.  They'll also touch on Northeast (Philadelphia) offensive lineman Naquil Betrand, who released a top six earlier this week. After visiting the school last month, the former Colorado commit has Penn State in that group. What has Snyder heard about the offensive line class plans after Evan Link? He'll share what he knows.  Next, they discuss the recruit names and commitment dates that are known. Ta'Mere Robinson and Tony Rojas have dates for later next week, while potential Oklahoma commit Derrick LeBlanc plans on making his announcement on the 28th.  What about Treyaun Webb, London Montgomery, Evan Link, Jason Moore, and the rest of Penn State's top prospects? News shattered the college sports world last night when the Big Ten announced that they accepted USC and UCLA from the Pac 12 starting in 2024. As a result, Penn State now finds itself in the middle of a budding super conference poised to take over college athletics. On Friday's BWI Daily Edition, host Thomas Frank Carr and recruiting insider Ryan Snyder discuss that and Penn State's Class of 2023. Could they find themselves in the top ten?  They start with the news last night that UCS and UCLA will join Penn State in the Big Ten. How does this move change the landscape of college football? Snyder and T-Frank discuss that at length. They also look forward to what and who is next. Will the ACC survive this distillation of athletic conferences? What other programs from the Pac 12 could join the southern California schools?  Previously, Snyder said that Penn State's Class of 2023 didn't have a great chance of landing in the top ten once the cycle was completed. Does he feel that way now? There are still plenty of hills to climb, but Snyder sees a path to that reality. He cites that the team already amassed a quality number of four-star players and can realistically add more.  Can they land defensive tackles Derrick LeBlanc and Jason Moore? What about offensive tackle Evan Link? Do they have a chance with four-star corner Elliot Washington? The list includes other familiar names like Tony Rojas, Ta'Mere Robinson and Cam Seldon. Finally, Snyder gives his thoughts on the reality of that vision coming together.  Lastly, T-Frank and Snyder discuss the running back situation for 2023. With all that talent left on the board, can Penn State add Treyaun Webb and London Montgomery? They break down how that could play out.  JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: http://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Learn more about your ad choices. The official visit period is over for the summer in college football recruiting, which means that most players will make their decisions in the coming month. Host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, breaks down what we know and don't know heading into July. Then, he uses that information to build a mock class.  He starts with the news on Wednesday that sets some projections on edge. Four-star safety King Mack from St. Thomas Aquinas in Florida pushed back his commitment decision by a day. The feisty safety will now decide on Thursday at noon. Will Penn State be the pick? T-Frank saves his thoughts on that for later in the show. Finally, he reviews the players that have a prediction for Penn State football or are reportedly secured for the Nittany Lions. Those players are Mack, four-star linebackers Tony Rojas and Ta'Mere Robinson, along with running back Treyaun Webb.  From there, he reviews the offensive class and projects how many spots remain on that ball's side. He thinks the Nittany Lions should only take one runner in this cycle. So will it be Webb or Scranton Prep's London Montgomery? At wide receiver, he could see the Nittany Lions taking another player but should they? The team can also add two more offensive linemen.  Defensively, he looks at the committed players and sees that the front seven is locked in, save for two positions. The board seems clearly down to one more defensive tackle. Will it be Florida defender Derrick LeBlanc or will DeMatha's Jason Moore be the choice?  The secondary situation is messy with the news that high-priority athlete Cam Seldon wants to play offense in college. How does that affect the safety board and the flexibility of the secondary? T-Frank also doesn't see a great fit to add at corner unless the Nittany Lions can land LeBlanc and teammate Ja'Keem Jackson.  Finally, he presents the players he thinks will choose Penn State over the next month. Penn State football heads into the final stretch of June with several essential dates on the horizon. The BWI Daily Edition: Recruiting Show looks at the players and dates that will shape Penn State's fortunes over the next month. Host Greg Pickel starts the show recapping the final official visit weekend for Penn State football. Last weekend the Nittany Lions hosted several high-priority prospects, along with some committed recruits. Recruiting insider Ryan Snyder gives what information he has about the group but admits that it's not much for one key reason. For example, where is Penn State trending with athlete Cam Seldon? How about linebacker prospect Kaveion Keys? Snyder explains some of the barriers to getting information from these players. However, he does give an overall sense of how Penn State fared out of its final official visit weekend. The team also hosted high four-star cornerback Daniel Harris over the weekend. Did Penn State do enough to pry him away from Georiga? Snyder gives his thoughts. After wrapping up the official visitors, Pickel moves on to the players making announcements this week. First, four-star running back Treyaun Webb changed his commitment date, which was initially Thursday and hasn't given an update on a new timeframe. What does that say for Penn State's chances? Snyder, who logged a pick for Webb to Penn State, gives his thoughts. Coveted defensive tackle prospect Derrick LeBlanc also released a top three schools and his commitment date of July 28th. Snyder expresses some more optimism than he initially thought he would but still sees one school as the likely destination for the 90th-overall player in the nation. Snyder also lets Pickel know that teammate Ja'Keem Jackson will be a big part of LeBlanc's decision. From there, they discuss Penn State's next expected commitment, four-star safety King Mack. According to Snyder, the teammate of Nittany Lion commit Conrad Hussey at St. Thomas Aquinas will make his pick of schools this week. Did Penn State do enough to fend off Big Ten foe Michigan State? Snyder gives his thoughts. Finally, they wrap up with a review of the month and the biggest storylines of June. For Pickel, Evan Link's commitment journey was a headlining moment. Snyder looks at how top linebacker prospects Ta'Mere Robinson and Tony Rojas played out. Subscribe to the BWI Daily Edition on YouTube and wherever you get your podcasts. Penn State senior editor Nate Bauer and film analyst Thomas Frank Carr are back for their weekly mailbag show on the BWI Daily Edition. They discuss several topics, including how complex or straightforward new defensive coordiantor Manny Diaz's scheme is. They also field questions about the Class of 2022 and 2023, including which players, like freshman Kaden Saunders, could play early.  They start the show with news and notes about the Penn State football team Nate Bauer gathered this week. Then, he gives some broad details about what he learned and directs listeners to check out his articles, which you can find below.  From there, they get into the mailbag to discover what Penn State fans want to know on the second-to-last Thursday in June. The first question deals with the Nittany Lion's first game of the season against Purdue. The line sits at -3 entering the game, and one BWI member wants to know if that's too low or if Penn State is that bad? Bauer and T-Frank see it differently but go into the factors keeping Penn State and Purdue within a field goal.   After a discussion about basketball recruiting, they switch to the topic of defensive ends. One viewer asks Bauer and T-Frank if new commit TJ Parker and five-star defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton have a higher floor than current starter Nick Tarburton.  T-Frank describes the similarities between all three players and then gets into one quirk that both Dennis-Sutton and Parker share.  Manny Diaz is bringing a new scheme to Penn State, and the Nittany Lions seem to be in a good position with two top-150 linebacker recruits who plan on making their college decisions shortly. So, a viewer writes to ask, which scheme is easier to pick up for a player transitioning to linebacker, Diaz, or former DC Brent Pry?  T-Frank clarifies some points about what position four-star prospects Ta'Mere Robinson and Tony Rojas play before asking Bauer to take the question. Bauer recently interviewed Diaz for BWI, and he got a first-hand account of the nature of his scheme. Bauer relates what Diaz told him and then asks T-Frank to add context to what he's relaying. Then, T-Frank and Bauer discuss what that means for the players in the system.  The next viewer asks if Penn State will have a reliable deep threat in 2022. If so, is freshman Kaden Saunders that guy? What about fellow newcomer Omari Evans? T-Frank and Bauer discuss the viable deep threat options in the offense and give their verdict.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

He joins host Greg Pickel on the BWI Daily recruiting show to share what he's learned. They start this video discussing the committed players who also took official visits this weekend and Ryan's conversations with them, which you can read here. After that, they shift to possibly the most important players visiting Happy Valley; linebackers Ta'Mere Robinson and Tony Rojas. Both players set commitment dates for the first half of July and Synder details where Penn State stands in both recruitments. Did they do enough to stave off Georiga for Rojas? Will Robinson's relationship with Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry swing his commitment away from Penn State? BWI's insider has the scoop for you. Penn State football hosted several important recruits for their official visits over the weekend, but so far, it's been a quiet start to the week. Host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, reviews what we know so far about how Penn State's efforts went from the weekend. From there, he shifts topics to talk about the second-year players on the current roster whom he spoke with earlier this year. The BWI Daily Edition previewed a critical weekend on Friday where many of Penn State's top prospects, like linebackers Tony Rojas and Ta'Mere Robinson, were on campus. He reviews what he and insider Ryan Snyder expected from the weekend, which isn't what we've gotten so far. Despite that, there's some positivity from Penn State commits online, which he reviews. To get more intel on how things went, check out Snyder's conversations with Robinson, his Q&A with tackle Evan Link, and more. After that, he puts recruiting news down for the day and gets into the show's main topic for Monday. After speaking with several of Penn State's second-year defensive players, he found an interesting theme that emerged from his conversations. When asking linebacker Jamari Buddin, safety Zakee Wheatley and defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg what the most important thing they were working on this offseason was, it wasn't anything physical. The BWI Daily Edition recruiting show is back to give you vital information about what went on in Penn State recruiting over the weekend. Host Greg Pickel and insider Ryan Snyder discuss the key events, including a committment, a de-commitment, and new offers going out to campers from this past weekend. They start with the good Penn State recruiting news from the weekend with three-star receiver Yazeed Haynes committing to the program. Next, Snyder recaps the timeline of Haynes' summer explosion in recruiting before moving on to how On3 will classify the speedy 6-1 receiver. From there, they discuss what is next or isn't next for Haynes. Next, Pickel and Snyder recap what they heard from Penn State's official visitors this past weekend. They touch on four-star Alabama safety Dakaari Nelson, four-star tackle Evan Link, and three-star defensive tackle Tyriq Blanding among others. Aside from the reactions they gathered over the last 24 hours, they talk about the likely timeline for each player. It's not all good news for Penn State this week. That's because the Nittany Lions lost one of their four offensive linemen this week to a commitment flip. Three-star lineman Joshua Miller changed his commitment to Georgia Monday afternoon. Snyder recaps what Miller had to say about the decision and how things evolved over the last two weeks. Finally, Pickel and Snyder review the players that earned Penn State offers after their latest Elite Showcase camp on Sunday. Snyder then reviews Penn State's seven-on-seven camp on Saturday. Lastly, Snyder presents some troubling information for Penn State about four-star linebacker Tony Rojas. Penn State recruiting enters the first big official visit weekend of the summer today. Recruiting insider Ryan Snyder joins the BWI Daily Edition to preview the weekend's events, including a seven-on-seven tournament and a prospect camp. He and host Thomas Frank Carr take you through the names and events you need to know. T-Frank and Snyder start with Penn State's seven-on-seven tournament they're hosting Friday morning at the Penn State football complex. Next, Snyder breaks down the top schools in attendance at the event and the notable players from each institution. After that, T-Frank digs into the nature of tournaments like this and what added benefits they can provide the Penn State coaching staff beyond talent evaluation. Finally, Snyder explains the broader seven-on-seven landscape. Next, they get into the weekend's biggest event, official visits. Eight uncommitted prospects for the Class of 2023 visit campus this weekend, starting on Friday. Check out the complete list in his notebook from earlier this week. From that list, T-Frank picks several intriguing players he wants to learn more about from Snyder. For example, where does three-star defensive tackle Tyriq Blanding fit into the defensive tackle board? Will high-priority tackle prospect Evan Link commit after this weekend? And who else is in the picture for Alabama safety Dakaari Nelson? Lastly, Snyder updates the linebacker situation in the Class of 2023. Penn State's top two targets, Tony Rojas and Ta'Mere Robinson, are seemingly going in different directions. Despite the murky outlook, Snyder tries to shed as much light on the subject as possible.
